It's been a long week but I was so pumped to be whisked off to the Waldorf Astoria to attend the cocktail reception and the luncheon for the Cosmetic Executive Women Insiders' Beauty Awards. This year, over 650 products were entered through over 300 beauty brands! From all of this, there were 186 finalists in 30 categories. The result is that a winner in each category is selected and on this day, over 1,000 people were able to watch the awards ceremony that was hosted by Michael Cantone (from Sex in the City). I'm so happy that one of this year's CEW sponsors, Crest, invited me to attend! As a Crest 3D White ambassador it meant a lot and it was so much fun to meet a number of people within the brand as well as other brands! Roll over the images to see brands that I highlighted who won within their categories and who I enjoy using as well (special congrats to Avon for winning as I'm a Brand Ambassador for them as well and loved seeing another fave was included - I also rocked their Extra Lasting Lip Gloss in Constant Coral today)!
I'm obsessed with Linea Pelle as I have loved them since 2008 when they dressed me for my first coverage of New York Fashion Week! It continued on with just seeing the heritage of this leather brand as it is used in bracelets, belts and handbags! Last year, we did a fun Style Tweetup with them to kick off New York Fashion Week as well as our Shoe Week events and it was so much fun (check out the event from last year). Andrew Cotton, the VP and Creative Director of Linea Pelle tweeted with us in LA as we checked out the line in NYC! Well yesterday, we did it again and this time, Andrew was in NYC and we were able to meet him, see the line and just hang out! Roll over the images above to get tidbits, see video and more to learn about this fun event!
It's been a crazy week and with the weekend being hours away, here's a little accessories inspiration via Ghurka which is a great leather goods line that is peeking behind the seams to showcase the hand craftsmanship. As an Accessories Expert, I'm all about the details and being able to tell the story of the brand which this video shares so well. You know that when I designed my line with Sebago for my Kimmie Smith x Sebago Spring 12 collection, I kept talking about the process, the leather, the craftsmanship etc so it's always a joy to share other brands that also believe in these components when they make their goods.
As an Accessories Expert, I know a thing or two about accessories and obviously, I have my statements that I love wearing that are definitely noticeable when I'm walking around. But in many ways, beauty products can be an accessory too and they are definitely essentials! Roll over the above images to check out why I'm obsessed with Urban Decay, Palmers, Dior, Shobha, Butter London and Dove! Of course of special note is my nearly life long obsession with Crest (yes even before I became a brand ambassador - I started as a Crest Baby thanks to my mom)! Find out why I'm a fan of their Crest 3D White Whitestrips and this Sunday (04.28.2013), you'll find a $7 coupon in your local newspaper that will allow you to use it on this great product that I have used for years! Now you get the chance to start using this too! I'm giving away a box of this with a winner announced on May 1st! Roll over the images to find out how you can enter to win!
Even though we're weeks away from consistently warm weather, fashion continues on with what's currently available within our favorite boutiques, what's being rocked on the runways as well as what's being worked on within design teams all over the world. Fall 2013 accessories have been showcased and of course I had to share what some of my faves are for the upcoming season when we're back in layers again! Check out key accessories in a number of categories from shoes (for men and women) and handbags. Check out some of my faves including Alberto Moretti, Attilio Giusti Leombruni, Bottega Veneta, Brian Atwood and Gucci for their current Spring collections as well as checking our friends at WWD for the Fall previews.
I have been so excited by The Great Gatsby movie that will hit movie theaters next month. As an Accessories Expert, I'm very excited about the movie as fashion and specifically the accessories will have a dominant place throughout the film directed by Baz Luhrmann. Tiffany & Co worked with Academy Award winning costume and production designer, Catherine Martin to create this world of glitz and glamour through its stunning jewelry adorned by a number of characters within the picture. Enjoy this video which shows the jewels and a number of behind the scenes info that will prep you for this film. In addition, if you're in NYC, take a moment to check out the window displays that were unveiled this week in order to showcase the Jazz Era elegance that is throughout this movie!
This week, we were so fortunate to have beyond amazing weather! I was able to rock flips flops, a maxi dress and a tank top! But the Spring is a mix of amazing weather, a bit of winter attempting to hang on and then that rainy period as well. You'll find yourself rotating through a number of looks that are weather specific. Today, it's a bit overcast and it's Friday! So with that in mind, this is a day of errands, wrapping up the week and more - I want to be comfy! Roll over the above images to see what I'm obsessed with at the moment. As you know, I'm a huge fan of grey and I love a great oversized top to keep me cozy and this one by Poison Ivy and available at Alloy is so great for a day like today. Keep it simple by pairing it with skinny jeans by Current/Elliott. In addition, accessorize the look with pops of coral and fab neutral hues via Coach, Dannijo, Clare Vivier, C Wonder, and Me&Ro.
As an Accessories Expert, I think that life should definitely be blinged out, dazzling and fabulous! There's something about having fabulous pieces on that bring your outfits to life and it doesn't just stop with what you're wearing - bling can show up any and everywhere. I love to accessorize all the way around (even down to my little SwarovskiJackGems). I have been a fan of Swarovksi Crystals for a number of years and I love the campaign that they launched for 2013! How can you not love seeing these fabulous baubles whether it's on a helmet, gloves, dumbbell and mask? The Swarovski Elements campaign was created by Ronnie Cooke Newhouse (Founding Editor and Fashion Director of Details Magazine), shot by Nick Knight and is brought to life with Candice Swanepoel. I love that even her nails are adorned with Swarovski crystals to complete this magical look.
Last weekend, as one of my Maid of Honor duties for my sister, I headed out with her as she went on her first day of trying on bridal gowns! The first shop was so hectic and so impersonal, I was not only happy to get out of there but happy that she didn't get her dress from there as it wasn't a place that I would want in terms of a bridal memory. But on Wed (of this week) my sister on her second day of looking for the perfect wedding gown, she selected her dress! Lovely Bride is currently (as it is moving to Tribeca) located in the West Village and is by appointment only. I loved the ambiance of the shops and the personal nature as well as touches that are within this multi level boutique! The first of 3 dresses that my sister put on ended up being the one that she fell in love with. For those that are in the market to getting a dress, I would definitely suggest this location as they have a carefully curated selection of designers. For those in LA, there is a fabulous shop out there as well!
If you've been reading my tweets you know of this season's addiction to Fashion Star mainly because of Glaudi's designer, Johana Hernandez. A few seasons ago, I remember seeing portions of her collection when she showed at LA Fashion Week and seeing her designs hit the runway on this show have definitely been a reminder to me on why her pieces are so phenom!
As an Accessories Expert, I'm also a fan of the fact that she not only rocks some serious accessories personally but she ensures her looks no matter how eye popping have them as well! Last night as she stood with the rest of the members of her team, she enjoyed massive bidding by all three retailers, Macy's, Saks and Express. Ultimately, Express picked up her beige and floral jumpsuits as well as adding in black.Of course I will continue to watch as she continues through the challenges and you'll find that at the conclusion of the season, there will be a recap of all of her designs with fab insights!
L'Oreal USA has an initiative that focuses on For Girls in Science which encourages girls to pursue careers in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (S.T.E.M.). With March being Women's History month, the site has shared a number of women that have dedicated their lives or portions of it within these areas. Interestingly enough, you'd be surprised at some of the women who are included in this fabulous roundup from Hedy Lamarr (bombshell actress and inventor), Danica McKellar (heart her as Winnie Cooper but did you know that she is also a mathematician), Sheryl Sandberg (Tech Exec and COO of Facebook) as well as Mae Jemison (Physician AND Astronaut). Clearly whether you choose a life of science or opt for one that is a hybrid of entertainment and science - the sky is the limit! Enjoy checking out more Women in Science
Earlier this week, I headed over to the offices of HSN to check out a number of items that will be on today and tomorrow in conjunction with Disney's March 8th release of Oz the Great and Powerful! As you know, I'm a huge fan of HSN as I have appeared on the network a number of items on behalf of a brand and they have quite the history of creating special collaborations whether it's Snow White and the Huntsman or True Blood! The current event brings a number of designers (over 50 brands of fashion icons and HSN partners with over 400 products) together from fashion designer Naeem Khan, luxury accessories designer, Carol Brodie and makeup line, Urban Decay! It's amazing to see how designers and brands brought together various inspirations from the movies to the product assortments. You'll find motifs from the movie such as hot air balloons, all the way to items that reflect each of the witches of Oz - Theodora, Evanora and Glinda in the movie. If you're looking to bring this within your home decor, there are a number of items in this category as well. Visit HSN in order to see the times that these items are going on air over the next couple of days and then also go online to shop if you can't wait!
With Oscar Sunday being around the corner, I'm already excited to share tidbits about the looks that will hit the runway and of course what accessories will be rocked! As many stylists are running around kicking into another level of busy, I'm loving a number of Spring/Summer 2013 campaigns that our out there! Tom Ford who also shot this campaign (obviously not a shock) which includes Karlina Caune within this accessories focused shoot. This look is so crisp and I'm obsessed with these Tom Ford Strappy Buckled Sandle Boot which is available at Bergdorf Goodman's in Black (although the gold pair screams sunkissed goddess and is everything)! This week, I Instagrammed this pair in BG's windows and they are stunning in an edgy way for more of a rock glam look. Visit his site to see a number of shoes and bags that are a must for the mod glam look that he does so well!

The tulle skirt is definitely on trend but there are so many ways to rock it. I have narrowed it down to three themes: Floral, Great Gatsby (think 1920's, flapper girl, glam) and Preppy. What look would you like to see me wear? Voting starts now (you can do so below) and will run through Feb 21st! It's another cold day here in NYC and we're in day 2 of NYFW! Although many wonder weather the blizzard could cancel shows, my fingers are crossed as this weekend I have quite the schedule and hope to see the shows. If you've ever wondered how the whole fashion community seems to be in sync in terms of colors that are in stores within each season, I have one word - Pantone! This is a great resource of colors in general but more importantly to let you in on the trending colors you should keep an eye out for. Although many designers have hit the runway and there are more to come, here are the key hues that will be huge in Fall 2013 and some peeks into what designers are doing within these colors.
This winter season can be a challenge from surprisingly warm days to down right chilling to the bone temperatures! How do you dress for something like this? It's all about layers and great pops of color. I love a neutral palette and believe in mixing white, black and grey together. The versatility of this look allows you to go all over and throughout your day without wondering if you're appropriately dressed no matter the impromptu situation.
I love a great pair of skinny jeans and this pair from Paige Denim and add a fab white tank that can be dressed up and down by Rag and Bone is a fab look. Complete the look with a great rolled cardigan in grey from Ralph Lauren Blue Label. A fab pair of ankle boots add a nice touch to the look by Saint Laurent.
Of course, I'm all about accessorizing and love adding in fab embellishments to jazz up this look. All of these pieces have notes of silver, Mother of Pearl and quartz. Although I'm not a watch person, I do like this Michael Kors timepiece. Layer on a Chan Luu bracelet that adds in another subtle hue. I love this Mother of Pearl necklace which has a great depth of texture as a way to bring in an old world charm as well as being very modern. Finally, I love this quartz and diamond ring by Sandra Dini.
Finally, it's all about the bag - with this winter season that will soon transition into Spring, you have to have a pop of color and you know that I'm a huge fan of Linea Pelle as I love their rich leather, fab embellishments and amazing colors. This Dylan Medium Tote is a lovely yellow and I have been carrying this body style in the fall. I love that you can fit so much in here (many times I have my laptop in my bag and all of my tech goodies)! So kicking off today, you have the chance to win this fabulous bag and a winner will be announced on Feb 7th (the first day of NYFW) so that you can begin building your closet on the way to great style!

A winner will randomly be selected!
When going out for a special event or just to hang out for date night, what do you wear?
I get this question a lot! Going out could be a number of things but when it comes to a fab night out and doing it up classic NY style, then I have to be decked out! Although I go out for a number of things it's always nice to do it up for New Year's Eve (I loved my dress that night as it was fab while not being fussy - it was a ruched body con dress as you can see). When I'm going out for drinks and hanging out with friends, this look is such a go to look! I believe in body con dresses (in terms of my go to look) as it hugs my curves and I like the ruching as it does allow some give. There are times I love to rock brights but at heart, I love my neutrals. This Alexie dress by Reiss is striped and works across all seasons. Pair this with a pair of Giuseppe Zanotti watersnake slingback heels which are staples within my closet as I can wear dresses, jeans and more with them. Accessorize this clutch with a fabulous pony hair clutch by Vince Camuto. A key signature for me is a cocktail ring. I speak with my hands a lot (if you've seen me on HSN you know I can't stop) so you should give a little something to look at. This ring by Effy Collection is the perfect accent with its smokey quartz. A sizeable bracelet is also a major part of my look. I love this chain style by Ugo Cacciatore which is another conversation starter. Dressing in this weather is not always the best when it comes to the winter, but I do love this Karl Donoghue belted shearling coat which once again can be rocked with a number of your looks.
Feb 10th, the Chinese New Year will have arrived and it will be the "Year of the Water Snake". Now I am not personally a fan of snakes; however, anyone who knows me knows I LOVE python. There's something about the texture, hues and how luxe it looks whether it's on a handbag, a pair of heels or around your wrist. It's a must have material to have in your closet without a doubt; moreover, I love all the colors that it comes in as well! here are a few must have items that will allow you to play up the most casual of looks as well as to enhance something that is truly stunning!
Marie France Van Damme is known for her apparel, swimwear and of course fab accessories. I love her fold over totes ($550) as well as black and gold clutch ($550) as these are great and perfect whether you're rocking a shirt dress, wrap dress or a simple maxi! Ruthie Davis takes python from its classic hues to watercolor in her Sanibel creation with these vibrant heels in sherbert resort tones.
I'm all about wrist bling and it doesn't always mean stones, this Yosef H Antique Trunk Collection ($180) in rich red with closure hardware is a conversation stunner.
As always, I do look at an alternative as sometimes you see the texture you want, but it may not be the skin of interest. When it comes to that, I am known to swap python for crocodile as it still has a great look and is still fabulous to add a pop of nuvo glam within the overall look. Of course, it's also important to have the ultimate statement bag that can carry a number of things without looking like you're lugging your world (people are always stunned by how heavy my purse is) and how can you not do this in fabulous grey from Nancy Gonzalez ($2750). Together, all of these items ensure that winter, spring and seasons beyond will be perfectly accessories forward no matter where you're off to.
The Critics Choice Awards in Santa Monica had celebs hit the red carpet. We love Emily Blunt's ode to old Hollywood Glamour in this fabulous Miu Miu dress with waves in her hair a la Veronica Lake. I love dresses like this as the front is a simple sheath dress with a yoke that is beaded that continues into criss cross straps along the back. Although I love the dress and the Prada heels, I'm generally not a fan of dresses that are ankle length. I feel that the dress should have been a full length gown or could have been a cocktail length; however, Emily carries this off well. She accented her look with a cute clutch from JustFab and is frosted in Graziela Jewelry. With a bold red lip she definitely has a glow with this white dress and fabulous clutch. For those who watched during the night, Emily and her fellow actor husband, John Krasinski looked so lovey dovey last night during the awards.
The weather has definitely taken a turn for consistently chilly so we have to bundle up. Coming off of the new week of 2013, it's been an easy week to ease back into our schedules. As we head off to the weekend, we want to ensure that we look fabulous while also running around after the work day is done. Being a fan of neutrals, I had to combine them together in order to showcase a super easy look with this oversized Donna Karan grey sweater. Pair this over a pair of J Brand metallic jeans which adds a pop of color and texture to the look. Of course we're all about accessorizing so we love picking up the grey of the sweater wuth this Rosantica gunmetal-dipped, river pearl and quartz necklace. Adorn your fingers with CA & Lou which is a great wrap with a bit of bling. Lara Bohinc has a fabulous ornate bracelet which continues to tie this look together and looks phenomenal with Kooba's hobo bag in Dark Prune. Finally, we're obsessed with Anyi Lu's Vanessa Ankle Boot is a fabulous blend between a cozy and casual suede and a rich leather! Together this look showcases casual Friday with the need to go out and about once you're off the clock or done with your important task.
Whether you're old school and get your magazines on your local newsstand, at the airport when you're jetting or on your tablet of choice, we all love our mags and part of the fun happens to be the covers! With 2013 being days away, we have chosen 8 of our favorite covers that we flipped through. Take some time to check out our gallery to see what we loved this year! Our covers include various editions of Glamour UK, Elle, Vogue Germany and Grazia Australia to name a few!
With Great Gatsby coming out next summer and our love for HBO's Boardwalk Empire, we're so excited about American Spirits: The Rise and Fall of Prohibition which is on view at the National Constitution Center until April 28 of 2013. This exhibit which is in Philadelphia and takes visitors on a number of rare artifacts, education about this era and it also includes a number of costumes within this era! Why not make a weekend or take a few days during the week to not only check out the exhibit but to head to vintage stores in the area to recreate the look of this significant time in our nation's history! Jiust as the images above recreate the looks of the 1920's, (picture credits: Photo by H. Saleh for GPTMC) you can head out to a number of these boutiques as well via Visit Philly's Foursquare Vintage Shops list of boutiques.
You know that we have headed out to Philly previously and shared the fashion and designers that thrive in this city, so this is on our list of things to do! As an Accessories Expert, I love this vintage period with glam pieces and mixing a number of nuvo glam elements together! Expect this style to be brought into a number of looks over the next year as this is a fab theme and one that can be integrated within a series of looks that you wear everyday!
It's getting to be at about that time when you only have a few hours to get the gifts that you want others to enjoy! We have a number of accessories that are perfect for you and who you're gifting! Egard Watches is a fabulous series of limited edition watches that are perfect to bring his look together. In addition, he could use fabulous cufflinks and why not have white and black diamonds on them to ensure that he's snazzy from Luisaviaroma. Of course when it comes to her (and what you may think of sending my for Christmas) are these fabulous Yves Saint Laurent Blue Tribtoo stunning metallic blue shoes! These will dress any jeans and simple looks. In addition, we're loving Ramiro Encizo's Petit Noor Tote in this neon cherry wash that allows bright pink to mix in with the neutral tones of this bag.
Part of doing anything is getting the right mindset and if you're thinking of tackling your workout, then you should outfit yourself for sure! I have come across some phenomenal items to add to your look! I'm a huge fan of mixing it up whether it's a jog in the park, Exhale Spa's Cardio Core Fusion, yoga and more. When I just hit a few of my favorites in the gym, I love rocking a pair of shorts such as these by Adidas as well as giving love to my alma mata, Indiana University with this Victoria's Secret Pink athletic tee! To ensure the perfect messy bun, I love these Jilly Bands which allows your hair to be pulled back without having undue stress put on it (and I love the range of colors - a must in my beauty pack no matter what). Keep time with 180Limited which is a fab rubber watch which comes in a square and circle face option. I'm all about drinking water and love this glass bottle from bkr which not onl y has a silicone sleeve (once again choose your colors) but also has a cap where the handle is slightly tilted which is easier to hold in your hand as it fits in the curve of your hand.
Finally, it's all about the shoes and ensuring that they're not even good for your feet but that of course they look amazing with your look. I've been wearing these Therafit Shoe sneakers since my press trip in Jamaica! I love how it supports my arches and allows me to have cushioned layers. Dr. Lisa Masterson, who appears on The Doctor's created this shoe to empower women not only in the gym but throughout their lifestyle. There are so many hues that are available that we're excited to give you the opportunity to win a pair. Tweet @TherafitShoe and @KittenLounge how you will be healthier in 2013 with the hashtag #lifestyle2013 and we will select 1 winner on New Year's Eve.
We're obsessed with Brazilian fashion label Morena Rosa! Select images showcase the happy merge between effortless sexy style and boho chic with this labels accessories, headpieces and shoes. With the fusion of crisp white, golden hues and tonal browns with black - we're already thinking of how fab we'll look jetsetting with these pieces!
