Fashionable Fridays ~ Checkin' in With Kimmie

Whether you catch me at an event, see me talking to someone on a show or you just happen to catch me out, you know that clearly I'm all about style. When I'm out and about, people will ask what made me think of Kitten Lounge back in 2007 and I always let them know that Kitten Lounge actually originated as an Internet show back in 2004 when it covered my favorite artists and blended my love of fashion but even that is not an accurate description so I thought it would be good to tell you how it came to be and why it is such a driving force for everything that I do. First off, hi - I'm Kimmie, the Editor in Chief of this site and although I'm not really into the whole "Letter from the Editor" setup, it's nice to understand who is bringing you all of this content and why it's all here!

I fell in love significantly twice when I was younger the first time was at the age of 3 when I remember looking through Vogue and loving gorgeous dresses that showed me that you could be a princess everyday. For those that know my love for accessories, only the big baubles caught my eye! I loved going with my mom to fabric stores where she would make items from Vogue patterns into reality and when she later opened a boutique of custom design clothing in Indianapolis, I was in love. My world opened up to gorgeous brides, sequins, shantung, gaberdines and more and I had an AMAZING closet. That love came from my mother.

My father gave me a second love - at the age of 5, he taught me how to use a computer. We had an Apple and I loved it (don't ask me why I have an HP now although I have to give it some love too even though I continue to dream about a Mac book haha). I loved playing games on it and wondered what would the possibilities of that machine be? Who knew that in college one of my majors would be Telecommunications with a focus in New Media? Leaving IU and coming to NYC, I began doing PR for independent music artists who were only available online and I assisted them in getting spins and getting them booked. Why not, my Great Uncle was Joe Henderson, tenor saxophonist with Blue Note, Verve, etc so it was in my blood and I loved it. But then again fashion kept pulling me back in.

Is it true that I modeled (yes lingerie/swimwear), had a fashion line and currently have my own jewelry line Kitten Couture, and also assist firms with their Social Media via my other company Sikara Designs Group - check it all. But is it true that Kitten Lounge has been around more than two years? Absolutely. It initially came on board in 2004 as an Internet Radio show that I hosted daily for an hour each day for 3 years. Then I played DJ's who had crazy mixes and then talked with indie artists about their personal style. I loved it but realized after I began blogging for another site that I wanted to talk about more than just accessories on that site and do more than just host a radio show. The Kitten Lounge became my place to talk about fashion, style, beauty, food, music and travel. I believed that as a whole person all of this was important to me and that I wasn't alone.

I realized that I'm around stylish and amazing people who they need advice on where to go or how to dress when they are not in the settings that tend to go to all the time. People have always gravitated towards the way I present things and what better way then to introduce my world of showrooms, designers, industry shakers and more to you! Where do I go from here? Because of Kitten Lounge, I have been able to attend Fashion Weeks, go to Project, Magic, see private presentations, launches of all kinds and more. But I truly loved it when I made the cross over to personality when I shot an episode of To Be a Star which comes out later this year. Sharing the importance of accessories, finding your signature look and ultimately branding yourself was so important to me and to the 6 aspiring models that I worked with to achieve it, I'm very proud that I could be apart of that experience.

It is my goal and vision to continue to push various themes that are not only keys to my success but are core mental investments: I feel that accessories are an essential way to set yourself apart and that in the vein of Audrey Hepburn, you can take great classic pieces and look amazing. In addition, you can be someone that crosses over into a lot of areas (hello - I run a style blog, have my own jewelry line, create Social Media strategies for fashion/entertainment firms and am a personality as well) and yet still make it truly your own. Finally and most importantly, Kitten Lounge is about community whether it's introducing you to my favorites that you may not be aware of, reaching out via Twitter (@cocoabebe) or checking in with such favorites as the Holiday Gift Guide which launches Nov 1st (I can't wait to share the fab giveaways that we'll have, those who will be in the guide and a list on who to keep an eye out for in terms of industry must knows for your business). The experiences that I have had and those that will come have come to pass as I'm always open to reaching out, learning and helping someone else. In doing so it has created friendship, trust and has allowed me to interact with groups that I would have never come across if I had done it alone. The power of collaborations and having good people as your checks and balances definitely come in handy when you're running 300 miles an hour - no you're not crazy, you just know that you can do 48 hours of work in a 24 hour cycle and still go out to grab drinks and have a little fun! I want to thank everyone that has made this brand successful and who has been with me in each phase of re-invention that I have been through and look forward to sharing a lot of AMAZING items that are coming up soon!

Mingling Mondays ~ Vinegar Hill House

Earlier this summer, Paul and I headed out to Vinegar Hill House in Brooklyn. They had been featured within New York Magazine for their Cast Iron Chicken and we knew it would be tasty as the ex chef from Freeman's, Jean Adamson was one of the co=owner's of the restaurant. It was an amazing night where we were able to sit outside in the garden area (although someone was renovating their home and we could hear their saws at 10pm) and enjoy a great meal. We knew that we would want to come back and taste what they would do for the fall. So last Fri, after dropping in on a Burlesque Festival, we came to a crowded Vinegar Hill House. Fortunately, we were able to get a seat at the bar while we waited. The vibe is very rustic and I love all the wood that's around. As packed as it is, it definitely feels very intimate. I love their basic approach to the overall decor. Although they have a limited amount of alcohol at their bar, they have specialty drinks that are always very satisfying.

As opposed to my last visit where I had a sea bass I believe, I ended up having their famous cast iron chicken! It's important to note that they have 3 appetizers, 5 entrees, 3 sides and a choice of two desserts. The chicken is the only entree that doesn't include a side that comes with your meal. Of course I looked at the available sides and somehow the squash puree, long beans and bitter greens were not something that I wanted. Although the waiter said that I couldn't choose a side that came with the entree (apparently they buy enough sides for each entree), Paul asked someone else and fortunately my fingerling potatoes came with my meal. If you're looking for a nice vibe and a place for a date or group of friends, this is the place. Their coal burning stove kicks out amazing dishes that make you feel at home - the chicken was perfection. For dessert, we had the Guinness Cake which I LOVED when I came the first time and enjoyed having again! If you're in the area, take some time to have a meal here and bring your friends along! If you're brave, try the Apple Cider and let me know what you think of it (4% alcohol but tastes like a mix of apple vinegar with olive juice - it's an interesting taste). I wonder if this could be a future brunch spot or a fun place to have a holiday dinner as long as you're cool with the wait.

Now I am not one to spend a lot of time in the kitchen; however, today I spent all day there without having to cook a thing! After a fun night out, Niki stayed over and as I sat with my gal pal laughing and talking our way from breakfast straight through to nibbling a late lunch/early dinner. All of this was done as we sat in the kitchen (and I think my boyfriend was pleased to have a true football Sunday) watching Rachel Zoe, Grease and Grease 2! The kitchen table is an essential as it brings everyone together and becomes a home base of sorts for conversation! Above are some great table options that work with various kitchens regardless of how much space you may have. With the holiday season coming up, make sure you're cocktail/dinner party ready for all of your gatherings!

Snazzy Sundays ~ The Deck

The deck is that much closer to being done! So earlier this winter, we realized we had a leak and the source was from our second balcony upstairs. We had to pull up the Italian tile and it has been difficult to enjoy being on the deck. Since the summer is almost done, I definitely wanted the deck to be completed and as you saw last week, we headed to Home Depot to get our materials. We're almost done although we realized we had a little space left. Should we lay the last board down or should we get a planter of some sort to put down? Snazzy Sundays ~ A Friends Night Is a Must

I'm always going out whether it's to an event for a product launch or an appointment of some kind; however, there is something about going out for fun that is a must and yet can be the hardest thing to get on the calendar! Last week my boyfriend went out on a boys night and I'm not going to lie I was a little bummed as I thought it would be a great night in but he wanted the chance to hang out with his friends and he even brought someone from his office that he wanted to know better! Two of my best friends that I have known over the past almost 2 - 3 years email each other go out in twos but rarely do we all go out. I'm the single girl with the long term boyfriend that I live with, Keren (in the middle of the only color image included) is married and a mommie of 1 and Tessa on the right is married with a puppy! We all work in fashion and we're all super busy but we were determined to get time on the calendar and with that, in a very Sex and the City way is how 3 girls met in Midtown although Tessa lives in the Financial District, Keren is in North Jersey (in a fab building with amazing city views - although Tessa's views are AMAZING) and I live on the beach in Long Beach headed down for the classic drinks and nibbles at Tessa's place and on to some amazing bars at the Seaport. A girls night out where we just laughed had drinks and shots (and shots and shots) was one of the best times that I have had in a long time. We were able to catch up on what we were up to, what we were thinking of doing and just enjoying an amazing July that wasn't too hot and had just enough breeze. These are essential moments and regardless of the economy and what amount of time you have available having moments like this with your boys, girls or whoever you hold dear is important for your general health. On this Sunday, start a tradition whether this happens once a month or every other month. But this is not exclusive to just your friends. Paul and I every Sunday have dinner on our balcony which means we usually grill and it's a nice way to do something we do every night in a different way.

Fashionable Fridays: Fashionably Fun Together

The past two weeks have been a blur; however, unlike my normal running around, it's awesome to know that you have someone else who is running a strong race even if you're not doing the same thing! So as you know, I obviously run this site and I am also a jewelry designer of my own line, Kitten Couture (and yes I assist companies in establishing their place within Social Media) and my friend Crystal (who is on the right of the pictures obviously) is the founder and cookie designer of Tasty Morsels Bakery. I feel like we have done so many events and have had so much going on that we stay in contact via email/gchat; however, as we hung out at the Pink & Black Tie Gala hosted by Stacy London for the American Cancer Society in Brooklyn (I covered it and provided a piece for auction while Crystal made over 250 cookies for the goodie bag), we were able to just hang out to eat, drink and dance!

No matter how crazy your days are and no matter how many events you go to for whatever reason, whenever you have the chance, make sure that you go out there and enjoy it with someone when you can! It's amazing how it adds a different perspective and allows you to drink in the moment! I have spent the past few years seriously pushing and moving forward and I'm at the point now where it's fun to be invited somewhere to see familiar faces and of course to bring my friend as well! Always remember to take a moment and of course to do it fashionably - we work hard so that we can truly enjoy our accomplishments!

In today's show, I let you know about Kate Hanley, the author of Chill Anywhere. She will be at East West Books at 5th Ave on 14th St on Mon Jan 12th from 7:30 - 8:30. This is a great way to get the book, get it signed and of course to meet the author that can also be seen contributing to Body + Soul, Good Housekeeping and on Martha Stewart Live! In addition, I let you know about Soul's Calling giveaway and about the need for Yes to Carrots. Finally, you got a sneek peak on Tuesday's post which will talk about the Orbit. Happy Halloween everybody - what are your plans? First, everyone can say a virtual Happy Bithday to my sister who is turning 27 tomorrow (she's growing up so fast sniff sniff)! She will be heading to Japan tomorrow and expect to see some guest posts from her as she captures Japan and brings it back for us to enjoy! Tonight, I am going to head down to Atlantic City where we will eat at PF Changs (I loved this back home), we are staying at the Tropicana, we will hit a few clubs at the hotel (I am going as a Geisha), and then I am so excited about the fact that I will wake up to yummie room service in the morning, a spa at BlueMercury for a Coconut Sugar Body Wrap and lunch at Carmines! This is going to be a great Halloween and I can't wait to send you all the details and to let you know everything that happened. Our fearless Food Editor, Paul will send reports from the Poker Tables!

But we all have plans tonight right now, lets think about what's going on today! I love this super cute site which has amazing goodies for Halloween and just to let you know, this is also great to give as gifts for house warming parties, dinners and so much more. I love that this is great for Halloween and these items will work well right through the end of Nov as it perfect for the fall! Someone Spoil Me. The site is super cute and this is a Must Bookmark! Fashionable Fridays: I'm Interviewed on Pop17 About Internet Celebrity in Fashion

Last night was a crazy night! I was on Pop17 with Sarah Austin, a lifecaster who I find funny and love that she responds pretty quick to email (PS if it wasn't for @JuliaRoy, I would not have known about her and been on the show - you have to love Twitter)! Pop17 is a super cute show that looks at internet celebrity, issues and more. I was able to meet Famous Andrew who you should all follow on Twitter (FamousAndrew). Currently, he is a student at Parsons and is taking a course there about being famous on the Internet. He generates suggestions from those who visit his site and then he does various videos. Last week he pretended to be a banker that was affected by the current economical environment. You definitely should check out his videos since they are not only amusing but it helps him get a great grade for his course.

As a guest, I shared how Internet Celebrity works in terms of Fashion. Sarah made a great point that Paris Hilton became famous by appearing on the red carpet and I gave some examples of people that I know! Although this video is about 27 minutes, I am towards the end of this video and I give shout outs to Natali del Conte of Cnet's Loaded, Sarah Conley of Style It and Kiki Kannibal. Of course we chat about my sites and interests as well. I love being a guest and sharing how the internet and fashion work so well so enjoy!

Of course, not only was I running to get to Mogulus Studios to get to the interview, but I also ran from there to go to the Clearisil presentation at Bowlmor Lanes to look at new products that will launch in March. I will definitely do a special post on this later on today but let me just say that it was amazing and worth being out of breath to get there in order to enjoy great nibbles, a few beers and to see the products up close (a little teaser: I can always tell when a pimple is starting and now I have something that can fit in any bag that will stop it! Absolute love!!). More on this later on today as I am super tired and wanted to get you guys an early post to enjoy for the nightowls this Friday!

Treasure Tuesdays: Roundup of My Line Kitten Couture

Every now and then I like to share what I am working on. Besides putting together content for my blogs and doing PR, I also like to share about info regarding my jewelry line, Kitten Couture. I have to say that wearing it during Fashion Week, I was actually able to get a few orders from people that I just completed. It's nice to know that these lariats made of natural stone and seashell pieces are creating excitement. This summer, I included one of my pieces - Aeryn within the goodie bag of Renee Zellweger's new movie 'My One and Only" out next spring. To know that such notables as Ms Z, Chris Noth, Kevin Bacon and more received these pieces is great! This season I created additional pieces to round out the fall collection and have a few more that will be out this season. In fact, I am currently putting together a fall/resort photoshoot and can't wait to share this with all of you (of course this means new pieces as well). Mingling Mondays: Madeleine's Are My Fave

Today is a busy day! I woke up this morning thinking that my boyfriend and Food Editor of Kitten Lounge, Paul, will be attending a foodie event which will find its way on next Monday's post! Of course I will attend this afternoon after going to a few meetings myself which will include info for Island Fashion Week, my clothing line and the lines of others. Of course, all of this will end with us hanging out at a bar to watch Paul's beloved Jets (and I will enjoy watching Brett as well). So this morning is definitely key as we tie up a lot of loose ends and start projecting the rest of this year (how crazy is it that we are close to the beginning of a new year??). We will be confirming a future weekend trip which will make its way on this site and so much more.

So when it comes to a busy day where I will be running around, I definitely like to have something enjoying - I will start with my flavored Green Tea and maybe have a nibble of Madeleines! I love this soft cookie and I will make these this holiday season. Of course, I had to go online to check out some great recipes and Milk and Cookies Blog has a nice orange infused taste, Yumsugar had the classic and Taste of Home has a nice hazelnut one as well. What a great way to create some great variations off of the classic recipe! I knew these were amazing when I gave some to Paul one afternoon and he declared it his favorite (I couldn't believe he had never had one). Anywho - I can't wait to share a lot of the goodies that are going on on the site and as soon as I can I will let you know. Until then, treat yourself to a Madeleine!

Fashion Week Continues: Kimmie on WNBC

We are at Day 4 of Fashion Week. I write this now as I am going to bed soon so that I can be ready for one of my most hectic days at the show. There are so many exciting shows that i can't wait to share with you AND Friday I turn 29 - so there is a lot to be done. In addition, the Pink Lounge just opened so please check it out as it keeps you connected to all those that have products and services that benefit the awareness of Breast Cancer! This will run from today through Nov 15th! In other news WNBC, the local NYC affiliate, is not only only covering Fashion Week but is also showcasing bloggers such as myself that are Fashion Bloggers On the Move - I have this image which is a print screen but you can check out other bloggers as well (many of them who I keep bumping into at the shows) and if you're on Twitter (username: CocoaBebe)say "hi" as I love building more followers and chatting with you! Treasure Tuesdays: For the Love of Jimmy Choo

Ah I love when there are changes to spruce up the site and to bring in a little love! So Treasure Tuesdays have always focused on accessories. Many of you know me from See Pretty Things and that this is a huge passion of mine but I wanted to introduce you to my sister's super cute Yorkie, Jimmy Choo. In honor of him and the fact that my boyfriend and I will also be getting a super cute Yorkie this fall, I will be dedicated the Tuesday segment to accessories for puppies! I think that this is great since many of us have dogs or friends that we practically adopt their cute babies! You guys will be able to see Jimmy Choo on here from time to time (this pic was taken earlier this month and he is already much bigger now at this point - I love seeing him in comparison to the Mets hat - so tiny). I will bring you great items that are perfect for your puppy and will provide reviews for you on how they worked with Jimmy. There will also be footage as well so this is going to be a lot of fun. If you have suggestions and tips, supply them as I will be getting a puppy very soon after we move into our condo!

Mingling Mondays: Gorgeous Weekends Ahead

Yes today is Mon and I am all about Mingling but I wanted to share with you something that will be changing in terms of "Sippin' Saturdays", which has been all about drinks, Snazzy Sundays which tends to focus on home decor and Mingling Mondays. Although from time to time this summer, these days will cover the topics mentioned previously, I will also take these topics to another level by taking in the best of what we can do on our long weekends! In these posts, you'll find great ideas and fun places to go to that are in the area or in our own backyard. I am so exited to share with you and if you have a restaurant, city, boutique, etc - share with me and I will come out to check it out! Consider this segment to be something like the travel channel of sorts and I will be your guide on fun items. In addition, due to the continued condo hunt that my boyfriend and I are on, I will also bring you yummie places to eat in the Hoboken, Jersey City and Williamsburg area as well.

Back to Mingling Mondays, I had the luxury of enjoying my first half day Friday of the season by heading to Bryant Park and watching other people enjoy the day as well. I am really getting into using my Flip and can't wait to start using it for my ultimate projects which will be revealed within the next few days and of course available on my You Tube channel! Trendy Thursdays: Some Designers are Timeless & Essential

If you read See Pretty Things yesterday, you know that I was still giddy post my DVF shoot! I still can't believe how much fun it was and all the people that we were able to meet that were apart of the Coutorture network. It's amazing to see Bloggers (which while talking with Sarah I explained that I prefer the term Digital Journalist since many of us treat our writing as something that is a career and a major focus due to having multiple assignments and consistent content) that you read about on a daily basis in front of you! I also loved that we wanted to know about basic things such as what keeps us inspired and how we got into what we love so much! It was not only a little girl's fantasy come true but also an education and being able to reach out to those that work within our industry as professionals and not competitors!

Beyond gushing about that, I am already spending "yet to be deposited" checks to think about all the pieces I want in my closet. Obviously this gorgeous dress would be one of them and I would be more than happy to wear this (hello Alicia Keyes wore this dress) to a function launching a new collection of my line Kitten Couture (I was pleased that I was able to wear one of my pieces within this pic - so glad that Grace fit in!). With all of that being said, it was an inspirational and amazing night that i will definitely think about. Of course you can never go wrong wearing Diane Von Furstenberg which I am a huge fan of and would be more than happy to be invited to any future event that is out there! Thank you so much DVF team, Coutorture and everyone else that made this experience one that will be remembered!

UPDATE: As a side note, Trendy Thursdays will now incorporate Beauty! I am so excited about this as this is something that I have always wanted to add as a regular fixture. As many of you know, there are a variety of new things that will be popping up on the site. I look forward to sharing these great finds with you! This Ontario based site looks for designers that are willing to create exclusive items that are only available in limited quantities. So I created the Alli which includes Botswana Agate, Carnelian, Snail Shell and more! This was such an amazing process and you should check out the site to see what other designers have created from jewelry, furniture and art! I love the idea of being introduced to designers that you may not have been aware of and this is exactly what this site aims to do! Wearable Wednesdays: LAGOON ~ Keep it Ruched & Simple

Sometimes the best ideas are the simplest ones. You'll find you get more compliments and it took you much less time than the outfits that you labor over for hours. So when it comes to going out and picking up a few great pieces with no idea in mind, I always head out to Forever 21 and if the lines are too much, I go online! I love this Ruched Cami because it would look fab with skinny jeans and a great pair of heels. Love the fact that it's not pricey but that I can pair it with pieces from my collection, Kitten Couture and a cuff from my designer friend Ted Rossi. The possibilities are truly endless! Take a peek at some great finds whether it's popping in new colors or new looks for a truly great price.

Mingling Mondays: THINK CITRUS ~ Kitten Couture Hits the Streets

So this post is another one of those where it hits a number of themes. Today, I will be doing the ultimate mingling! I am attending the Henri Bendel's Open See for Designers in NYC which runs from 9am - noon today. This is a great event that allows emerging designers to be seen and to be picked up by this amazing store. To all of those who will be here, I wish you the best and hope that you enjoy the experience regardless of the outcome (I say this and I have to keep telling myself the same thing) I will be chatting with other designers and I will also be in line since I will be having my pieces looked at by the lovely buyers as well! Obviously, I will share with you what happened and would love to also provide some information on designers that I think we should keep an eye out for! So send me all your virtual well wishings whether they are comment or whether you just happen to think of it - all support is appreciated! In addition, since today is the last day of THINK CITRUS, you'll enjoy one of the pieces that I recently designed as an exclusive (it's not even on my site) that has pops of the theme that we have had on the site.

Let us hope that this piece which is something that I just designed a few weeks ago is one that the buyers fall in love with! I named her Alexandra and she has Carnelian (that would be the citrus), Snail Shell, Sea Shell Chips (that would be another citrus in lemon), Turquoise, Polished Wooden Beads and Mother of Pearl. As many people know, I am a gin girl; however, I have become a fan of Christiania Vodka. I have enjoyed sipping this with many of my favorite drinks - cranberry, pomagrante, guava juices and much much more. I truly enjoy the crisp taste and love how it works with so many drinks. I also enjoy sipping it on the rocks. In addition to loving the taste, I love the bottle which is such a classic and minimal look. Wearable Wednesdays: Carilyn Vaile - My Fashion Obsession

I am totally a t-shirt/tank top and jeans kind of girl. I love wearing something super easy and accessorizing it. I'm all about making something you're own and adding a lot of my own creativity into it. Although I love this look, I am a HUGE fan of Carilyn Vaile which is the epitomy of making sure that you have great pieces that can be worn a variety of ways and layered at will. First of all, for those of you that don't know about Carilyn Vaile, she is very huge on the West Coast and sells through Bloomingdales and Nordstrom; however, you can also purchase her pieces at VFashions. Soon, you can purchase pieces directly on her site.

Earlier this year I had a mini shopping spree and actually purchased the light blue dress on the left in a coral color. I love that you can tie it as shown or cross the straps across the back as shown. Carilyn Vailehas a super cute dress that can be worn 10 ways whether you decide to wrap it, wear it as a skirt, put it over pants and more. This is such a great way to get maximum wear out of these pieces.

What I love most about her pieces are the colors and the soft knit material which is actually made out of bamboo. It never loses its stretch! I would definitely visit the site which on Carilyn Vaile'ssite you can see how one dress can be worn in so many ways. These pieces are perfect no matter whether you're hanging out in your neighborhood (I love that she has cute t-shirts, ruched tops and more), going out for the evening (you can choose to be completely glam, sexy or both) and finally she has those great weekend pieces (I love my long sleeved ruched top that's perfect to pair with cute denim and a pair of boots - brunch appropriate).
