Yes the Noreaster has hit the east coast. How chilly was it yesterday. I have to get a lot of motivation going just to leave my house when it comes to going out for fun! One of the things that I hate about the winter is that I don't want to feel like I have to sacrifice my style for warmth! This winter I'm thinking of cute sweaters (those who know me know that I am not a fan of this portion of my wardrobe as a rule) but I do love American Eagle's Thermal Collar Shirt. I think this is perfect for staying warm and you can showcase a cute necklace! Juicy Couture's necklace is full of drama and it can peek out from your shirt. I'm a fan of boots and I'm obsessed with these thigh high Stella McCartney boots! Now when you're running around you're all set whether your hanging out with friends at an apartment, meeting up for lunch or whatever happens to you when you end up leaving your own home! Finally, you have to have the perfect skinny jean and this pair from Arden B is an essential for the weekend when you're going for a relaxed look. Take some time to think about how you'll dress on these chilly weekends!
Hey guys, if you see me outside today, I'm taping a show that will be apart of one of the new projects that I'm apart of as the Fashion Editor of Chicology (you can also follow us on @chicologist - so it'll be fun. If you can and you don't mind battling the cold, check out Henri Bendel's Friends and Family sale that started on Thurs and will go through Sun! If you're here in the city, try to take a peek. It's one of my favorite stores and a great way to begin thinking about what you want to do for your holiday gifting (of course you can always check out our Holiday Gift Guide and learn more about our Coach Holiday Blog - A - Day partnership that will take place Dec 9th!)
You never know where the night will take you and last week I found myself heading to SOB's to see Jason, a trombone player, play with his band, King Chango - a Latin ska band. Now if you're not familiar with SOB's this is a place where many bands have obtained their start and it's a great venue to see acts that we're all aware of whether it's Vivian Greene, Raheem and more. I have always loved coming here and since it had been awhile, I was excited to see if I still loved it! It was such an amazing night and the band had an amazing energy which you can see above!
The world of Apps, it's hard to remember what it was like in a pre-App world. Everything is much easier to access and it makes you really think about your phones. I have a Blackberry and I'm convinced that the best apps have been created for the iPhone and Android. This is one of the reasons that in Dec I will have to decide between the two phones. But I digress, this week Gucci jumped into the App World and I have to say that theirs incorporates a lot of fun elements.
This free App is available on the App Store and is for the iPhone and iTouch. Frida Gianni worked with Mark Ronson to create Gucci Beats which allows you to create various mixes and of course to share it with your friends. If you've always wanted to know what Frida and Mark listen to, then you have their playlists as well! Enjoy a music stream channel, a Gucci Little Black Book City Guide, get access to their fashion shows, look books and more news about the luxe brand. I think this is definitely an app that I would want to have if I had an iPhone and it will be interesting to see what features they will continue to add to this.
Earlier this week I had the opportunity to have a chance to hear Wine Library TV's Gary Vaynerchuk talk about his new book Crush It. Although I'm in the process of reading it, I wanted you to hear about Gary's reasons for this book in his own words. I loved the fact that I had the opportunity to hear him talk about being passionate about what you do as this is the way that you can succeed in whatever you're interested in and that by continuing to embrace Social Media and other avenues, you'll be able to stay ahead of the curve! Once I have read the book, I'll let you know my thoughts as well as footage from the book signing event as well. For now, hear more about why Crush It was created!
Oh boy today was a long day! Today will be the beginning of various photoshoots that I will be working on to update some images and to get prepped for amazing things that are going on around the site! Crystal and I of Tasty Morsels Bakery will be running around one of my favorite places, the Roger Smith Hotel to make it happen. So instead of sleeping in this morning, I was out there making things happen! It was great to run into Brian and Niki and loved that we had quite the team working with us our fab photographer Manny and our stylist David! When the pictures are ready, I will make sure that you guys see it!
Of course all this running around tells me that I need to head to my fave nail salon Dashing Diva to get a full on manicure pedicure and then over to Townhouse Spa for a nice little massage. I love Dashing Diva as it is the all around girlie place! I tend to go on Thurs or Fri night because you can sip a nice cocktail while you have your sessions but I love this package. With so many locations, you're bound to find your favorite spot. Although I have never been to Townhouse, I'm super excited as I received a gift certificate so I'll let you know how this goes as well. Sometimes the weekend may not be entirely relaxing but that's why you get two days!
Oh yes we're back to covering bands on Kitten Lounge! I love attending shows and can't wait to see Jessica 6 on Oct 6th for their record release party! I'll be honest that beyond hearing songs online or snippets here and there, I'm not familiar with the group; however, the comments that I have heard all over the sphere lead me to believe that this will be a group whose melodies will not be easily forgotten. Individually, they have done so many collaborations with artists that I have loved such as Massive Attack and Goldfrapp that I'm very excited to see them. Of course that means that next week, I'll have to let you know how the show went and much like other shows, I will post some footage! It's always fun to go to release parties and I'm sure that this won't be any different. Until then, I wanted to give you a peek into their Fun Girls video which was shot live at Le Poisson Rouge here in NYC. If the song is any indication, it will be a great show!
Timbaland knows how to make a hit record and now you have the ability to have professional quality music that you can create at your fingertips! Beaterator, created by Rockstar Games, hit the shelves last month and is available to use on your PSP now and will be available on your iPhone and iTouch as well! Now you have a way to create your own beats and to include your vocals whether it's fun amongst your friends or you're trying to put together a song for the studios. Watch the video and once your song is created, you can export and share with your friends!
This week has been amazing! I love the fact that this week's events were so nurturing to me on so many levels! The black and white shot was an image from a Roger Smith Hotel event where we all hung out and networked with one another. I loved being able to see new friends and old while having a few drinks on the rooftop! I love get togethers!
The next night, I went to a Purple Lab event where I not only learned about the amazing Huge Lips, Skinny Hips gloss (that I'm obsessed with) but I enjoyed a yoga that was so nourishing that I am officially hooked! Sometimes it's fun to go to events where you learn more than just about product but about yourself! I'm so blessed to not only have people in my life that continue to push me forward but to include them within my camp which propel me forward.
Earlier this week, I had the chance to attend an event that showcased Barenjager Honey Liqueur! I love that they had 6 bartenders making their signature drink that included this honey liqueur. With the temperatures beginning to fall, this is the perfect compliment for an amazing beverage or to include within your tea or coffee! Just this morning I had it in my Green Tea and definitely felt warmed up! This drink comes within a woven basket and is eye catching. Visit the site and make sure that you check out the recipes that are available to make this drink tasty!
Today's post is short and sweet! I turn 30 today and even in the past few weeks, I have met some amazing people that astonish and inspire me! Above are 2 fabulous ladies that I hung out with during the Black Card Circle event. To the right of me, Crystal who keeps me sane when I'm stressing over the small stuff and the farthest right - Nikki who is another partner in crime! One of her friends came by and is also in the picture. It was so much fun to be out and I will see them and many more at my festivities tonight. Thank you to everyone I know, have known and will know that makes what I do easier. The power of connecting with all of you to go to the levels that I have gone to is not lost on me. I'm truly humbled by recent displays of people coming together so that I can move on whether it's for To Be a Star (my reality show I taped), the updates to my jewelry line and more! I thank all of you and am so appreciative!
This weekend we'll be partying as this is known as the last summer party weekend! Jagermeister is one of the cooler shots when you're out and about. If you've seen the Tap Machine that is at many bars, you know that it always makes the perfect shot with the perfect chill. Now you no longer have to go to the bar, you can enjoy their new 6 shot cooler! This cooler comes with 50 cups and the bottles can sit within this easy to carry cooler to ensure that the party never stops! In addition, when the lid is closed, there are places for your shots to sit. When it's open you have the compartments for the bottles and you have another where the cups sit. Finally, you can pore out the perfect shot since there is a little spout! The two bottles sit in a compartment where they can be turned over so that the liquid can come out! Let's just say that once my boyfriend sees this post, he will be begging for this to be a permanent fixture within our home (although he still wants the much coveted Tap Machine). Take some time to check out the images and since this was available Sept 1st, you can definitely get this in time for your party whether its this weekend or some other time in the near future!
You guys have heard me talk about IreneB who is Spain's own cross over artist within R&B! I love that she has such a strong voice and that her lyrics transport you to situations that we are all familiar with. This summer she has toured a lot and I love hearing that she is doing interviews and getting her sound out there! Hear more about IreneB, what she's up to!
UPDATE: This widget updates with new content so you may have to search for IreneB but there are great interviews that are included here!
Oh boy! This time tomorrow I will be on the second leg of my flight heading to Las Vegas! I'm definitely going to miss some of my friends but I love making things happen! For those of you that follow the site and/or hang out with me, you know that this week has been a fast track! I taped an episode of my reality show, co-hosted a show and now I'm organizing what I need to his Magic, Project, Curve and much more! It's definitely a whirlwind but these are my musts. I meet people at shows throughout the day finding out about their products, figuring out how they will fit in my editorial calendar and more. I always have a book to jot notes down - nothing to cumbersome! I love an interesting pen that catches people's attention. Both the journal and pen are available at Anthropologie which is a great place to get something vintage looking that shows you have style! I love cases, this time I'm heading out with projects that I need to work on so it's nice to have my data in an area. Of course, I collect a lot of business cards so I want a cool case to have this in! All of these items make it easier to do business! I can't wait to share with you various items that I have learned about while I'm away!
When it comes to summer time treats or when I feel like I miss some of my favorite drinks from back home, I think about having sweet tea. It's hard to get that here in the East Coast. Firefly Vodka is great for those that love Sweet Tea with a taste of vodka in it! I'm a huge fan of the original (other flavors have mint, raspberry, etc). This is the perfect drink to have with lemonade for a traditional night out! Firefly Vodka has so many ways that you can put your twist on your perfect summer time drink! This is great for sipping on your balconies, parties or just to enjoy with dinner.
Last night was an amazing night for so many reasons! First I was able to me @db and @bsimi who I have sent tweets back and forth for awhile! There's nothing like meeting in person and then we were at Lily's Live at the Roger Hotel (if you see the installation art at 47th & Lex, this is where we taped! It was like the Today Show seeing people watching us!) for a fab cooking show that was very Iron Chef. As I sat with @db and @mizcity, we enjoyed hearing from the founders of @desserttruck as they made their amazingly fab Chocolate Lava Molten Olive Oil Cake and then a Lavendar and Peach Sorbet with Creme Fraiche! All I can say is that the smells were so intoxicating! How fun was it to be at a taping watching @rogersmithchef and feeling like we were on a panel! This taping series will be back in the fall so definitely keep an eye out and make sure to follow @rshotel
With the taping over, as I had no plans last night, we went next door at Lilly's Restaurant and enjoyed getting to know @db and @bsimi
. Earlier in the day I was fortunate to see StartupLucky (@URWingman was on there talking about being NYC's own wingman and helping guys in their relationships) so it was nice to see him and all of his energy last night. There were many people there last night at the bar but I have to say it was AWESOME meeting @nikisnotes and it's always nice to reconnect with old friends so I'm glad that @skyle was around especially since the last time I saw her we were in the craziness of Fashion Week last Sept! Was this all the Social Media elite of NYC - no but I definitely felt humbled to be in the presence of everyone there and I'm excited to get to know them and many more
Check out the video and if you're on twitter you can follow me and all of my shenanigans @cocoabebe and for those that I didn't include - sorry but next time!
After a day of running around Home Depot (more on that tomorrow), it was nice to go to Bracco's in Freeport to enjoy drinks, oysters and to hear great music! This is a fun place to pass the afternoon while you decide what you would love to do for the rest of the evening! After 3 hours we listened to a solo artist and then a Jamaican band - both were great choices.
When it comes to icons of style, I have always felt that Audrey Hepburn was mine; however, over the last few days, I learned that her style was a derivative from Gale Storm, Loretta Young and Lucille Ball! I've included their shows and of course the trailer for Audrey Hepburn's Breakfast at Tiffanys!
Loretta Young was a famous actress who starred in various movies. When she crossed over to TV, she wanted to have a show that still showcased her style. Her entrance onto every episode was one that everyone enjoyed! Each episode was a new entrance with a fabulous outfit! For Lucille Ball, it's easy to remember that she made everyone laugh; however, she wore a lot of outfits that were common during the day and of course she had fab evening wear when she was out at the club or traveled with Ricky! Gale Storm's show incorporated her singing and of course signature outfits as she played a cruise activities director on The Gale Storm Show. Of course my favorite is Audrey Hepburn who brought style to the everyday; however, now that that I have seen the other women that have been included within this post, I can see that she embodied elements of each of these women and of course added a bit of a mod style in order to bring an element of her own! I love learning about older shows which were classics that everyone loved and with the beauty of You Tube, you can find a variety of shows that will eventually be within your DVD collection.
DJ Eloy has a residency in NYC and in Long Beach! Currently he is playing at a few clubs in Seattle and there is a London tour being finalized as well! Not only is he a great DJ but he is known for his innovative style! One of my favorite things that he does is what I call a Video Mashup (not sure if this is the technical name for it). This allows him to mix two different songs together not only with the melodies but the video footage as well. There are various videos on the site but since I'm relaxing after a night out with the girls, I have picked this video with Kelly Clarkson!
Last summer I was introduced to Stefani Vara (singer/songwriter) and it's been amazing to see her on various covers and hitting the red carpet. Above is a video that shows her behind the scenes footage for her spread in Urban Latino!
As many of you know, I love knowing what a brand was like before it was something that we all considered drool worthy of being within our closets! I enjoyed reading The Towering World of Jimmy Choo and loved learning about the importance of proper financing and maintaining the creativity of a brand in order to ensure that it can compete effectively amongst companies that have a deep rooted heritage. Another favorite designer of mine is Chanel! I love her timeless quality and of course I have always been curious to know more about what she was like and how she was inspired to create this amazing brand. Soon, many will begin to learn more about her in Avant Coco Chanel which translates to 'Before Coco Chanel'. Prior to being a fashionable force, she was merely Coco who wanted to get out of her day to day job in order to grasp her true passions. Check out the trailer and I'll let you know what I think of the movie!
Happy Fourth of July! If you're in NYC or will be watching the fireworks, you're aware that they will not be in the same location (usually it's at Liberty State Park). This year is not only America's birthday but it is also the celebration of the 400th year that Henry Hudson discovered NY! So the fireworks will be on the Hudson River this year! In essence, it's the city's birthday which is actually very cool. If you plan on coming to the city or finding the best place to watch for fireworks, then you'll want to go on Macy's site to not only figure out where you should be but also to find out some interesting facts about this fireworks and also city facts! Click the link within the spread to go to Macy's site that covers this amazing display. I'll be at Alma in Red Hook, Brooklyn with friends and hanging out at the rooftop! If you don't plan on being on the street, try calling around to see some great places that are available and have rood access!
Today I'm waking up in Chicago! It was time to leave NYC and check out some other areas now that the weather is warmer and although I have a lot on my agenda for such a short time, I can't wait for the Indie Designer Market which is today and tomorrow! This is a great time to check out and to purchase pieces from indies while supporting the idea that we want these individual designs to thrive! I'm excited to see Objets d'Envy as I have been posting about this amazing jewelry line since I first found out about it! To finally meet Kristin and to purchase an amazing Swarovski Crystal piece in person - priceless! But I'm not there just to see those who I write about it! I also want to share with you the next best thing whether it's fashion or accessories! If you live in the area, you're fortunate to have this go on throughout the entire summer - so no excuses when it comes to supporting these artisans and if you'll be in the city and are looking for something of interest, then this is it without a doubt. Take some time to check this out and more reports will come in the next few days!
If you haven't visited or don't know where your local farmer's market is, you don't know what you're missing! With so many amazing finds you could spend hours finding such things as avocado squash, thai basil and so much more. I love that you'll find items that you didn't even know about but will fall in love with! Right now the American Farmland Trust is allowing you to vote for your favorite farmer's market. Take some time to vote for yours or to find one that is much closer to you! Keep it local and support your farmers!
We love hearing from you! Suggestions, ideas and thoughts are always welcome.
Please send all food related questions to Paul, spa and wellness items to Keren and all other queries to Kimmie.
