So today I am heading back home to NYC! My time in Austin has definitely been amazing and I am super pumped to come back in June! The question I have been asked by locals, those who have moved here and those back home has been - "how is the fashion scene". It's an interesting question as there have been quite a lot of styles being rocked at SXSW with so many people coming from all over. But in a word, "relaxed" is the best word. As Founder of Luxe PR and Promotions, Anthony Martinez said in a story he retold me "Austin is the kind of town where you can have an important meeting and rock jeans and a t-shirt to do it". Now we all know that I love casual and personally, I have seen a number of plaids being rocked around town. If this is your look of choice whether you're coming to Austin OR what you love to wear, here's a way to wear it better.
Don't be afraid of color - we don't need to stick to reds and blues when there are so many other colors on the spectrum to consider. A skinny jean is always fab and rock a little cuff as you pair it with a flip flop or even a Dockside Boat Shoe by Sebago. Finally, rock a hat. This is an art that some people are slowly starting to embrace but I hope it is a bigger trend. I just had a fab brunch at The Belmont Hotel in Austin with fab Chapelier, Lana Chu as she reiterated that hats are something that we should be rocking. Now I know that I am interested in her pieces as I am going to the Virginia Gold Cup with a fab group of divas including Glamazon Diaries, Makeda and I know Lana Chu's hat would make our outfits phenom. So guys, why not rock this Gucci hat to complete your look and still know that you look super casual but very crisp!
It's day 2 in Austin as well as being apart of the geeking out taking place at #SXSW. Although I've only been here since Fri night, I'm already itching for fashion during my stay here. But to talk about today, we have to go backwards. Prior to starting this blog, my initial one was all accessories all the time - See Pretty Things. This is where I began being known as an Accessories Expert. When people ask how I know who I do, I tell them that my relationships started from back in my modeling days when I first came to NYC as well as just googling all day. I have been a fan of and obsessed with accessories since I could remember and made my first necklace when I was 10. As I grew up, I realized that bigger is better and I'm not talking diamonds. I love large stones and huge necklace pieces. So when I was Editor of SPT, I came across Ana Reign Designs, I fell in love. Not only is there something about the pieces that are big, bold and conversational but the designer, Anna Reingatch is super down to earth and sweet. I gathered this from our emails that we have traded over the years as well as a phone call or two.
With that said, when I realized that I was coming to Austin, I reached out to her ASAP and am now prepping to meet a designer who embodies my belief in accessory decadence (excited to meet a new friend, Anthony Martinez who is the founder of Luxe PR Promotions based here in Austin as well as having her as a client)! This is a Major Swoonfest for me and we know that I don't take my accessories lightly! So while I get ready, check out the site and enjoy images from a photoshoot including her pieces and worn by Shay Butta (I have loved, written and obsessed over the black ring for years)! I'll have a recap tomorrow!
