Fashionable Fridays: Events ~ CEW Beauty Awards Luncheon

It's been a long week but I was so pumped to be whisked off to the Waldorf Astoria to attend the cocktail reception and the luncheon for the Cosmetic Executive Women Insiders' Beauty Awards. This year, over 650 products were entered through over 300 beauty brands! From all of this, there were 186 finalists in 30 categories. The result is that a winner in each category is selected and on this day, over 1,000 people were able to watch the awards ceremony that was hosted by Michael Cantone (from Sex in the City). I'm so happy that one of this year's CEW sponsors, Crest, invited me to attend! As a Crest 3D White ambassador it meant a lot and it was so much fun to meet a number of people within the brand as well as other brands! Roll over the images to see brands that I highlighted who won within their categories and who I enjoy using as well (special congrats to Avon for winning as I'm a Brand Ambassador for them as well and loved seeing another fave was included - I also rocked their Extra Lasting Lip Gloss in Constant Coral today)!

Trendy Thursdays ~ Kitten Lounge Studies BB Creams

Over the next few weeks, I will be focusing on BB Creams - we've seen them in a number of ads, hearing our friends rave about them and more! I have requested a number of BB Creams and will be trying these out for you guys so that you know what works best and more importantly, for those that are in darker skin tones - what works for our skin? I will be sharing my findings on the following BB Creams - Jane Iredale, Avon, Palmer's, The Body Shop, Aveeno and Maybelline. BB Creams (which stands for Blemish Balm, Blemish Base or Beauty Balm) are still new into the Western market but have flourished in East and Southeast Asia. Those who use it do so as they are an all in one facial product that is meant to replace serums, moisturizers, primers, foundation and sunblock! You can wear it alone as a tinted moisturizer, you can opt to wear it over moisturizer and serums as if it is foundation and it can be worn under your powder. The opportunities are endless and of course, I'll share my thoughts and alternate uses.

Trendy Thursdays ~ Pedi Musts

My sister and I are definitely on the same page when it comes to pedi care! For those that believe that the winter is the time to take a break from regular pedi care. If you're in that group, then I suggest that you should do a bit of at home prep before going back to your regular pedi appointments. The winter here in the city means thick socks, stockings, boots etc and by doing a pre-pedi at home, you can at least begin to get your feet ready before going for your next appointment. Roll over the above images to see what items are in my pedi closet! From Conair, Tweezerman, Avon and Deborah Lippmann - you'll see my tried and true musts! In addition, meet a new find that I'm obsessed with that's based in Brooklyn - Soho Feet which focuses on foot care only! I'm loving how their treatments have culinary inspirations and truly make your feet feel amazing when you're soaking, exfoliating and moisturizing!

Treasure Tuesdays ~ Accessorize Your Easter

Easter is around the corner and it's one of those holidays that I enjoy as it means a nice family dinner at home. Seeing that I'm steps from 5th Avenue, I love the Easter Parade. Accessories Expert or not, it's all about the fabulous (and shall we say most inventive) hats and then after it's time to enjoy my faves - deviled eggs, prosciutto, cheeses, and so much more! When Easter is held in our apartment, my basket is set up much like the one here (but much more items as there are people who come throughout the day). I am not really someone who eats a lot of sweets but for the kids at heart I have them (and Paul loves it) but I also bring a lot of beauty product out! Yes, it's true that I have a lot that's sent to me but I like to spread the love and to encourage my friends to enjoy new items so that they can include it within their routines!

My fave candy this year is Edward Marc and candies from William's Sonoma. Although there will be a number of beauty items offered, those swinging by this year can expect some faves including Yes to Carrots, Avon (as I am a Brand Ambassador for them for a second year in a row and love the goodies - I love sharing), Butter London and Deborah Lippmann. I supple a number of tote bags (as I always have a lot of those from events and people can select what they want. Roll over the images to find out what's in this basket and happy Easter planning!

Treasure Tuesdays ~ Support Your Accessories

As an Accessories Expert, I'm always checking out new pieces that I want to wear or that I want my clients to wear when I style them! My rule for accessories is the same that I have for apparel. When you find yourself fidgeting in your garments or accessories, that's when you know that you need to make sure that things stay put! I have a growing kit that I use whether I'm going out with friends, going on air, prepping for Shoe Week events or styling clients for their music videos or their red carpet moments. Although a lot of my tricks of the trade are things that I have created myself, I love the items in this list as they are a must whether it keeps you looking fabulous or extends the life of what you're wearing.

Sometimes you do actually see me wearing earrings - although it can be a rare site! My ears are sensitive and I don't like the feel of an earring with weight although I think it's gorgeous to wear a pair of cascading chandelier earrings! To offset the weight and to feel a bit more secure, I highly suggest BlingGuard's BlogDots which have 45 pairs that are disposable and come within a tin. You can also use these on your clip ons, pins, brooches and badges.

I love Hollywood Fashion Secrets' Fashion Tape Refillable Gun as we all know it's great when we have garments that need to stay put whether you're ensuring that a wardrobe malfunction doesn't take place but it also has other uses that are not always about items playing peekaboo on you! When I wear scarves or sashes, I actually use the tape to keep the knots tied so that I don't have to tweak it during the day or night. I also like to use this to secure bra straps, to take the extenders on necklaces and to tape it under my dress so they don't peek out when I wear it.

I'm a rounded toe girl but there are times when I wear a pointy toe and my clients definitely love it. Over time, you'll find that your shoe has indentations as your natural gait will create breaks in the pointed toe area. Tip Top Shoe Saver ensures that you can put these little V-shaped items within the toe of the shoe to keep creases away when you're not in them. Each box comes with a pair and is a must when this is the shoe of choice.

You know that my signature is a fabulous ring and of course, I get them sized when they're my own; however, when I am borrowing jewelry from a brand or styling my clients I have to use BlingGuard BlingWraps! These invisible latex free bands ensure that you're rings won't turn around on your finger or slip - which is embarrassing as no one should fidget and have their accessories work against them. There are 30 bands that come in each box which is always good to have on hand.

For those that are driving around, you always wonder about whether you'll ruin your heels! Tip Top Shoe Glove For Heels (check out their version for men's shoes as well as flats for women) slips up the back of your heel so it's completely protected and wraps around your ankle so that your shoe looks fabulous without worrying about any unnecessary brushing.

Finally, we've all had a shoe that for some reason rubs against our heel or is a little loose in the back. I definitely suggest Avon's Back of Heel Liners has a set of two. This is definitely something that's great to have on hand to ensure that no shoe is deemed unwearable!

Trendy Thursdays ~ All Hands on Deck

Hands are a key part for our beauty look as they do some serious double duty as they showcase our rings, we use them to gesture and more! I love getting my manis done at a salon; however, there are times when I do it myself due to a quick change or simply wanting to do it. With that said, here are my must have picks when it comes to have the necessary items whether you're doing it from the beginning or just doing something quickly!

First off, I love making sure that everything has its proper container. I have a been a fan of Stephanie Johnson for years and keep all my nail care items within her cases as it's easy to transport as well as it allows me to see what I have. She has so many styles and fabrics, it's fun to have a number of collections and is a must to keep things organized at home and when you travel.

When it comes to tools, I love the Nail Experts 4-in-1 Salon Manicure Kit which fits easily in the hand by Avon and I always have my Tweezerman Mini Nail Rescue Kit as well. When it comes to prepping your nail for a polish change, I am OBSESSED with Crabtree & Evelyn's Nail Polish Remover Wipes which contains one wipe per packet. Each packet has quite a large removal wipe which allows you to clean all 10 nails and it doesn't have that medicinal smell! At first, I thought that the wipes were dry but note that there is plenty of solution on them to do the job. In addition, to ensure that your cuticle and nail are nourished, use Nail Experts Green Tea Cuticle Serum which is also available at Avon. I placed this on the cuticle and rubbed it in and then continued to apply it across my nail.

One of my favorite hues that I'm rocking currently is Crabtree & Evelyn's nail polish in the hue Black Cherry! I love how rich and dark it looks and how it spreads evenly across the nail.

Continuing to take care of your hands is an essential even when you're not updating your mani! Hands stay smooth and amazing when you exfoliate them. I suggest using Project Fig as it has a great smell. I love making sure that my hands stay clean with The Body Shop's Absinthe Purifying Hand Gel has a cooling effect and a slight musk/sage smell that works well for men and women. In addition, I am a huge believer in making sure that my hands are moisturized and why not do it with a bit of SPF (they have 30, 50 and 70)! As today is the last day of January, you may not have known that these past 30 days were actually a part of National Oatmeal Month. Aveeno is an oatmeal based product that many with sensitive skin enjoy using due to its benefits. Although my skin isn't sensitive, I do love the nourishing value that comes from the ingredients and love putting this in my routine!

Snazzy Sundays: Awards Season 2013 ~ SAG Awards Julie Bowen

I love when stars rock fabulous looks and it seems so true to their personal image! Julie Bowen of ABC's Modern Family looked amazing in Johanna Johnson in a black leather gown (on trend) with embellished cap sleeves from their Spring Summer 2013 Red Carpet Collection. I'm obsessed with this designer and I always love when looks that hit the runway, make it onto the red carpet. Although I love how it looked when it was presented, I do like how Julie made it her own. As always, I let you know how you can get the beauty look as this is perfect for NYFW, Valentine's Day or anytime you want to step it up! All of these items can be obtained at Avon as you know I love sharing finds from here as I am a Brand Ambassador for the brand. As more updates of this look are known, this post will be updated.

Makeup artist Heather Currie complemented Julie’s stunning sultry black leather dress with a subtly sexy cat eye and a soft, romantic pink lip. Here are Heather's steps to get the look:

Face

Currie kept Julie’s skin looking dewy and fresh by applying Avon Be Blushed Cheek Color in Powder Pink on the apples of her cheeks.

Eyes

Currie used Avon Irresistibly Sexy Eyeshadow Palette in Bombshell to bring depth and smokiness to Julie’s eyes and add a little shimmer to pick up the glimmer on the jewel's on Julie's dress.

The inner rims of Julie's eyes were lined with Avon Glimmersticks Eyeliner in Cosmic Brown, and the tops of her eyelids with Avon Ultra Luxury Eyeliner in Black. She then smudged the black liner into Julie’s eyeshadow to create a subtle cat eye and finished the look with a coat of black Mascara.

Lip

In order to create a romantic lip that would complete Julie’s look, Currie swiped two coats of Avon's NEW Totally Kissable lipstick in Lovey Dovey on Julie’s lips. No gloss was used in order to keep the lip color soft and rich at the same time.

Trendy Thursdays: Pre NYFW Beauty Prep ~ Paul Innis

Avon's Makeup Artist, Paul Innis Gets Us NYFW Ready

With NYFW days away, I always think about how to rock fun makeup looks that will look amazing from sitting at the tents to a number of activities that follow during this time! As you know, I'm a Brand Ambassador for Avon and I absolutely adore, their Makeup Artist, Paul Innis. Who better then him to tell me about great looks that can be worn and of course how to get it!

Get the Look – Purple Pop

During Fashion Week, sometimes you need a bold and dramatic look that will turn a lot of heads! For this look I took inspiration from my mother and the way she wore makeup in the 90's. This is definitely a look for someone who isn't afraid of a little color!

Start by using Avon's 8-In-1 Eye Palette in Water Colors. Using the lilac shade in the palette, sweep the shadow from the base of the lashes to your brow bone.

Take the medium blue shade and fill in a little above the eye crease to the base of the lash line. Using the darker blue shadow, line the lower lash line on top and under the eyes.

Add Avon Glimmersticks Eye Liner in Blackest Black all around the lash line, both top and bottom, and then smudge it with Avon’s Ergonomic Eye Liner Brush. Complete the eye by rimming the inside of your entire eye with your liner and applying Super Drama Mascara in Black to your lashes.

Add a nude lip using Avon Ultra Color Rich Lipstick in Sheer Naturale and coat with Ultra Color Rich Brilliance Lip Gloss in Pink Icicle.

Finish off this dramatic look by adding blush to your cheekbones. A strong eye and nude lip can wash you out, so to prevent this apply the right amount of blush once the rest of the look is complete.

Get the Look – Kiss & Makeup

Fashion Week can be so hectic and exhausting and this stunningly simple look is quick and easy to apply so you wont be late for any shows! This look is inspired by natural beauty with just a hint of flirty sex appeal.

Apply a moisturizer and foundation best suited to your skin type and tone.

Set the look with Avon Ideal Flawless Loose Powder. Then add a cream blush, such as Avon Be Blushed Stick - for oily skin try a powder blush like Avon Ideal Luminous Blush.

Take Avon Eyeshadow Duet in Dusk or Maize. Use the neutral color and apply all over the eye lids and into the crease.

Use Avon Glimmersticks Eye Liner in Cosmic Brown and smudge into the top of your eye. Finish with a light coat of Super Drama Mascara in Brown Black.

To finish this stunning look, use a vibrant and flirty shade to make you look extraordinary! The model in this image is wearing Ultra Color Rich Lipstick in Pretty.

Trendy Thursdays ~ My Look Via Drugstores

The other week, I shared what my go to looks are when it comes to my beauty routine! Many of my favorites are not those that can be found at a drugstore; however, in a pinch whether I need something right now and don't have it within my sample closet, can't make it to Sephora or am in a new city where I'm no where close to anything, I need to make it happen by visiting a Duane Reade/Wallgreen's equivalent. Foundation is always a tough one. For a million years I was a MAC Studio Fix N9 girl and for almost two years I have been a Dior Gelee 070 girl. So I generally get this at Saks or at Sephora and when I can't get there I mix a number of CoverGirl shades together from the Queen collection to get my look. I prefer eyeliners that feel like a soft crayon but when I can't use my preferred (Urban Decay or Avon) brands, I can pick up Wet n' Wild which is more of a pencil but at least I get the bold black look. When it comes to mascara, Maybelline is a great go to and I love mixing it even now with my Dior Show! Pop Beauty has a great blush/bronze palette that allows me to mix hues since I like a rose/honey hue on my cheeks. Although I'm a Butter London girl, I have quite a few Essie bottles! Here in NYC, they're in a number of salons and I always ensure that I have some on hand. Finally, my lips must be soft and I apply gloss and balm so many times! When I can't have my preferred items, I go old school. How many of us started our lip balm journey with Chapstick - it's an oldie but goodie!

Trendy Thursdays ~ My Beauty Rock

I'm all about a minimal look but looking fabulous when it comes to my beauty routine and although I have stated before what I wear, I had to have everything in one spot! I love looking like I have a flawless look as if I don't wear makeup but I promise you - I am always wearing foundation! So, I wear two things by Dior, I live for the caramel hue of their Diorskin Nude Creme Gel Compacts as well as Diorshow mascara (this is what I wear when I really want my lashes to pop). I used to wear Urban Decay for a number of years but recently have been wearing Avon's Kohl Eye Liner which looks amazing. On my cheeks I wear two bronzers a very pinky (not shown here), Pure Color Blush from Estee Lauder along with my standby fave, Laura Geller and I always wear some kind of a dark hue from Butter London and my lips are always amazing in EOS

Trendy Thursdays: NYFW SS13 ~ Style Tweetup Edition

I love NYFW, seeing new designs, concepts, networking and so much more! This season, a new brand hits the NYFW series of events - Shoe Week! What a great way to showcase footwear with designers, to pair them as well as to share one of the favorite accessories to complete our looks! As Co-Founder and Creative Director of Shoe Week. I can't wait to share a number of designers and events that we have in store for you! I kicked off NYFW with this thanks to our partnering host, Linea Pelle at their fabulous showrooms! It was so much fun to have fabulous bloggers Kitty Bradshaw, Christine Tsang, Raijean Stroud, Makeda Saggau Sackey, Aly Walansky, Charu Suri, Amy Chandra and my sister Dorian!

My focus on this editon of the Style Tweetup was to sit with a group of my blogger friends and introduce them to a leather brand that I began wearing when I covered Fashion Week starting back in 2008! In addition, I wanted it to be a time of zen prior to the madness of Fashion's Night Out hours later and to be armed with fab pieces that are essential to navigate NYFW as well as the fall! We were all gifted a fab wallet and wrap bracelet from Linea Pelle and we chatted, via twitter, with the Creative Director, Andrew Cotton - Cheryl, a rep from the brand walked us through the showroom letting us know what was currently available. The girls also left with a fab series of goodies from Avon (I love being a Brand Ambassador for them) and a Shobha (complimentary brow threading from my favorite salon). I can't wait to share the Fall Style Tweetup as another great way to share the brand along with some of my faves!

Mingling Mondays: FW2012 Trends ~ My HSN Segment

Roll over the images to see where you can purchase these items

Last Thursday, I had two segments on HSN and since I was talking Sebago fall style, I had to rock a few layers. What I love about fall is that you can wear a number of your summer items layered together. On this day, I wore a cowl neck short sleeve top from Forever 21 and paired it over top a pair of jeggings from Avon I also wore a navy cardigan which was super easy. Of course I had an Onyx ring from Ana Reign as well as layered bracelets from Lagos Jewelry as well as Charriol. For an added pop, I put on Rubr Watch Nation which allows you to take the face of the watch in and out of the straps of your choice! Finally, I do love to accessorize with nails so this look was finished with Deborah Lippmann in Billionaire which is a hunter green hue with a tone of black in it!

Trendy Thursdays ~ Win My Clutch

Roll images for more information about the goodies I'm rocking

As many of you know, I was on HSN this morning and again this afternoon! What's it like to be here? Well in addition to being able to hang out with the HSN hosts and other people that make the show amazing, I also play a lot of catch up - this season, it's all about me working on Shoe Week. I also love doing little catnaps so that I can stay refreshed. I'll be posting my looks soon but for now - here is a portion of the look that I wore as I was coming back from my last show and getting ready to head out for dinner!

I'm always mixing things and today's look was a simple cowl neck top that I got from Forever 21 which was paired with leggings from Avon that are a jegging with tones of grey/brown. I love the fact that all these accessories play together in a fab way including Stella & Dot's layered charms which is a fab bird on top of the Tree of Life charm. I also love fun bracelets such as my two fave Charriol and my Lagos Jewelry Caviar bracelet. Slipping on these Havaianas in silver tie the look together. When I'm out and about, it's all about grabbing a clutch to keep it easy, today I'm rocking my Dylan Zip Clutch from Linea Pelle which folds over with a magnetic closure to look like an envelope. When you lift the flap up and unzip it, you have full use of the inside of the clutch! We are offering this fabulous clutch by entering below!

Trendy Thursdays ~ Laser Bikini Musts

A few weeks ago I went to Beam Laser Spa. Now, my avid Kitten readers know that I went to Beam Laser Spa a few years ago for hair removal under my arms. Every so many weeks I had to do treatments and after just a few, I was hair free. I know that others had to go the standard amount of times but I was pleased that I felt comfortable at the location (on the Upper West Side - 1844 Broadway Ste #900 NY, NY) and that they had the kind of laser that worked for my skin and would not cause issues such as lightening my skin! So when I was asked to try this out on my bikini line I knew I had to! We all love wearing our bikinis going to the beach and knowing that not having to worry about this portion of my body - it was a no brainer.

As I prepped for going in, I knew that there could be mild pain. I'm not going to lie, I had a shot of vodka before I went in. I also knew that I would have my Rosewater Toner Mist which works well on my brows after I have had them threaded at Shobha. I had also been told that since they needed to understand my hair growth, you had to be able to show them. Once there, the procedure for this area only took 15 minutes and the stress balls they had was a great way to take my mind off the treatment. Half way through, I knew I couldn't go further with the treatment. I think that the combo of a laser being near skin that was over the bone when you got to the pelvic area as well as the areas that got closer to your sensitive areas made it a bit much for me. I was told that I could come back to have the other half done. It was suggested that I should use Lidocaine (the gel is suggested but I had the cream) but only the kind with 5%. Beam offered to order it as they didn't have it in their offices (costs $65) but I happened to have some and I love that you can use it for a number of your treatments. Just know that you will have to come a half hour before your treatment so that they can apply it and then you can let it begin to numb your skin.

Before I left, I was told that you have to keep the lasered areas covered as it is sensitive to light and definitely to use SPF (I love the Anew Avon lotion which has SPF 30 on it). When you do a laser treatment, it's standard that in 2 weeks you'll begin to go through a shedding process and are encouraged to exfoliate over the area to assist the process. I definitely suggest Shobha's exfoliating cloth. I did this about every other day.

Although you have 6 weeks in between you first and second treatment, since I had to come back to finish the bottom half, I was back in 2 weeks. This time with the Lidocaine, I didn't feel anything. It's more the sensation of knowing that you feel a quick zap and then as soon as you feel it it's gone! I will be back in about a week or so but have to say that the results are amazing and if you're someone who has always thought of using it, definitely consider it!

Swoonfest Saturdays ~ Mother's Day Eve

Tomorrow is Mother's Day! Whether you're a mom, a mom figure or are celebrating your mom as I am - Happy Mother's Day. One of my ambassadorships rings very true to me above and beyond the product offerings! I love that Avon has a commitment to women! Some of you may know that Avon was one of the first businesses out there that allowed women to work and create money for themselves as well as to allow women to sell in a way that works for them. As a Brand Ambassador, it is my duty and honor to share products that I love with those that I meet, to be apart fo special events such as the dinner that I hosted and to just let you know that it's an amazing product in general that plays well with whatever it is that you do! In addition, I love that whether you're the traditional Brand Representative that uses your brochures or those that do this online via their website or Facebook page - you rock! Many of the Avon Brand Representatives are mom's or mom figures and to you and to everyone that uses Avon or is outside of this community, have an amazing Mother's Day!

Trendy Thursdays ~ Lea Michele

The very day that I was hosting my Avon Dinner as a Brand Ambassador, I love that Jess (PR Manager of Avon Products Inc) was also pulling double duty as she looked at her phone to see what was happening with Glee's Lea Michele whose beauty look was created by Celebrity Makeup Artist, Melanie Inglessis for the Met Ball. Her eyes were lined by a deep plum liner and layered with a copper tones eye shadow on the lids. With a soft crease brush, she blended the edges of the liner with the shadow tp create definition for the smokey eye effect. Dark eye shadow added additional drama as it was placed over the liner and two coats of black mascara was the finishing touch. Since her eyes were definitely a wow factor, the rest of Lea's face was simple - she had a rosy flush of color on her cheekbones and had a natural lip (lipstick enhancing her own lip hue). You can get the same look with the following pieces from Avon as well as a few of our other brands!

EYES:

Avon Eye Brightening Pencil in Honey Blue ($7)

Avon Eye Brightening Pencil in Plum Berry ($7)

Earlier this week, I had the opportunity to do one of the many fun and engaging duties that are apart of my Brand Ambassadorship for the Avon brand! Wearable Wednesdays: His Style ~ Derek Jeter

A few months ago, I was asked what question would I would like to have Derek Jeter answer for my readership! Now, as many of you know, I'm a Brand Ambassador for Avon which allows me to find out about upcoming products, host events and keep you in the know on interesting tidbits. Derek Jeter is actually relaunching two of his products next month - Driven and Driven Black. During his photoshoot for this campaign in Florida, he answered my most important question that an Accessories Expert would want to know, "What accessories do you wear for a night out on the town"? I wonder if he also enjoys rocking his commemerative 3,000th Major League hit Movado watch. Find out this Yankee player's answer!

Trendy Thursdays ~ Summer Ready Skin

It's time to prep your skin and to boost up your beauty routine as well! This can be done by a few of my favorite products including Soap & Glory (Flake Away Body Polish), Dr Loretta (Youth Full Lip), Sibu Beauty (Exfoliating Scrub and Mask), Avon (ANEW Genics Eye) and L'Occitane (Cellulite Almond Lotion). Together these items will ensure that you're properly exfoliated and having smooth skin.
