Throughout this month, we will showcase products that support breast cancer. They may or may not be beauty focused and when visiting the site, you can see more in terms of how much and to what funds it goes towards. Yes we definitely believe that supporting this cause is a year around one but we also love the enhanced focus that takes place this month! Now, since our trip to Miami and being able to do a kick butt workout with celebrity trainer, Gina Lombardi of 'Deadline Fitness', we have enjoined maintaining fitness stories within the site. Now we love love Stella McCartney and her design collaboration with Adidas and we hope that it never ends, it is also one of the few times that we actually create an entire look around one designer! But how could we resist whether it's running, yoga or aerobics - you'll look amazing. Now the look doesn't have any linkage to supporting the efforts for research and awareness of breast cancer but the other items do!
We all need to stay hydrated and why not do so with Pink which not only keeps you going from one portion of the workout to the next, but it supports those women in need! In addition, we have already fallen in love with this acupuncture mat that not only relieves your stress but allows you to get a workout, but we had to mention it again! Acushakti is my new best friend (note that currently the orange and the green mats are available - pink will be available in Nov with a portion of proceeds going back to a breast cancer organization). I can't say that you will see me doing yoga positions on it (yet), but I do enjoy resting on it to relax my back and just to allow it to do what it does best. This also supports breast cancer awareness and of course helps you look and feel amazing!
It's been chilly the past few days but when it's grey outside with threatening rains, I like to turn the grey into my wardrobe! I love that it works well with a number of places that you will head off to and that this particular look is also a fab way to support Breast Cancer efforts as well. This look is super easy as you can start with your "blank canvas" which is a tee/tank and a pair of jeans. The cashmere rugby is super cozy and drapes well across the body. Then the boots have enough of that rugged edge that definitely shows that you mean business! Pop a bit of color in with a pink talon necklace and of course this ripped detailed bag as well. Grey doesn't have to be boring and it works well from season to season!
Yes I just got back from Mexico late last night and anytime I travel, I have to spend a few days getting back into my mode. Now throughout this month, we're going to be featuring products for Breast Cancer Awareness. Today I'm keeping it chill and zen (this pic at an event this summer reminds of this state of mind) by enjoying a fab crisp Saturday and what better way to do it then to sit at home and enjoy a fabulous fragrance from Antica Farmacista with notes from peonia, gardenia and rose that can be infused within your home. In addition, the first thing I love to do when I'm home is that I love that I can do at home spa treatments. I think that looking fresh and feeling refreshed is essential and as your face is the first thing that people see when you're out and about, I love the lip scrub by Jane Iredale. On one end you can get the perfect pout with a plumper and on other end you have a brown sugar scrub that keeps your lips as soft as silk. This is essential as many scrubs come in pots or if it is in a tube, it is something you have to carry separate from your lip brand of choice - but being together is everything! Enjoy the fall and think about great products that you can enjoy that provide support, research and assistance to a breast cancer fighter and survivor!
Who wouldn't love an afternoon of tea and mingling with other people in their industry? I knew that it would be a fun event and yet one that would require me to continue thinking about everything that took place. As you guys may remember from my last event at Purple Lab NYC, even with a few days in between the event and when I wrote about it on the site - I was still in awe. As I headed to the Norwood Club, a members only Country Club whose requirement is that you must be affiliated with the arts, I was struck with how much you can go the same place and not realize that there is more to what you see and what you know. I was a little shocked that this area of 14th street housed this awesome oasis! The memory of the gorgeous townhouse, the art, dining rooms etc is still in my mind and of course I want to be a member. Although the backdrop of the event was fabulous, I was there for something more.
Of course the tea kicked off with the Creatrix of Purple Lab NYC, Karen Robinovitz welcomed us and introduced an amazing line up of women! We learned about Triple Negative Breast Cancer and how it affected Nancy and her friends, moms who came together for playdates, put their resources and concern together to beseech the medical community to share notes on this disease in order to save women who were affected. Although Nancy passed away, I was encouraged that these women continue to fight and make their voices heard so that other woman can benefit. Nancy's favorite color was pink and to see her gorgeous daughter who was 7 wearing the cutest little prep school outfit with her pink nails, was inspiring.
From learning about the foundation and its impact, we saw a clip of "Why I Wore Lipstick to My Mastectomy". I remember seeing this movie on Lifetime a few years ago but had never read the book. As the clip came to an end I literally (and those who know I'm obsessed with Audrey Hepburn and Elizabeth Taylor will understand) looked over and saw a modern version of Elizabeth Taylor. With a simple classic dress, stunning earrings she was flawless and yes Geralyn Lucas was the author who wrote about her choice to wear red lipstick. I was so struck by her courage, frank nature and good sense of humor. I love the fact that she read from the book and also talked to us as well. Being able to be toured around Norwood was also amazing and gave me an opportunity to chat with her and to get a sense of who she was as a person.
It's difficult to convey all the moments that took place from being able to reconnect with my fellow bloggers, finally meet others that I have enjoyed reading for years and of course, to see everyone getting excited about the cookies that were included within the gift bag by none other than Crystal Horton of Tasty Morsels Bakery. As we all looked through our goodie bag, we all received Purple Lab NYC's SWAC (Sealed With a Cure) gloss in Nancy. Not only is it a gorgeous shade of pink with little specks of shimmer in it but it has all the elements that are perfect to keep your lips moisturized, there's a refreshing vanilla flavour - you feel like you can't put it on enough! In addition a percentage of the sales of this product go towards the Triple Negative Breast Cancer Foundation. In addition, we received a little card that gave us a challenge. As you'll learn in my video, Geralyn (check out her site to learn more about the book, movie, The Lipstick Train, The Booby Mafia and so much more) had a theory about red lipstick and my challenge was "Be and look fabulous while vacuuming". As is very typical I tweaked my challenge and shared some additional thoughts (yes I'm obsessed with my lounge wear as much as I am with my daywear! To answer your questions, I'm wearing Daddy's Favorite an amazing line that I found out about while in Vegas at the Curve Show!). Enjoy the video!
As many of you know, the fight against cancer is a huge concern for me! With my personal issues of breast cancer being in high school (and thankfully not having it) to my boyfriend's father passing away from Pancreatic Cancer! Cancer is something that everyone has a connection with it somehow and regardless of what I'm working on or where I am, I always have time to support the cause! This past May, I participated in the Pink & Black Tie Gala which took place at Steiner Studios in Brooklyn! As much as it was an honor to cover this inaugural event on Kitten Lounge and to include a piece from my line, Kitten Couture - I'm excited about this year!
Making Strides is a walk that takes place in October and for those that would love to learn more about this event, you can come with me and many others to attend the Making Strides breakfast on August 14th where you can learn more about this event and many others while sharing in the support of others! If you have questions, visit the Making Strides site to create a team or to add on to someone else's team!
We all know of Pay it Forward, doing something for someone else not for any kind of gain; however, I was recently touched by something that I wanted to share with you and hope that you can assist. The other day, a friend of mine told me the saddest story about someone who has worked in the fashion and beauty industry for a number of years and in the sake of anonimity - as she would be shocked to have her story told, I had to see if there were those who could offer assistance. This woman has helped many people in the industry by finding them amazing jobs, being a mentor and a friend. Prior to her losing her job due to the economy, she became ill with a disease and later found that she had breast cancer. Being someone who has helped so many people, it was shocking to learn that she felt she couldn't reach out to her friends and with no money, weight loss and more, she has run out of food and she even needs clothing (she is an XS).
As my friend told me this, I saw how upset she was and felt that I should reach out to my community of friends, PR people and more. Someone who has given so much to others now has so little. The outpouring of assistance that she recieved on my friend's behalf was AMAZING. To see someone from Trader Joe's who doesn't deliver offer to bring items to her and to pay for the groceries just because he wanted to assist was touching. If there are those that could help or know of someone it would be amazing. She is in the NYC area and we will continue to assist her as she continues to go through more challenges. Typically, Kitten Lounge talks about all that's fabulous and fun but we are also a HUGE believer in reaching out and getting our community together to assist others - I thank you for your time and feel free to contact me for further questions or ways that you could assist!
