You've said it all when you've said Chanel. It's an iconic house that has never gone out of style and I love that in this video (which is apart of a series known as, Inside Chanel), they have shared the essence and essential nature of The Jacket and it's importance to not only the brand but what it means in terms of the movement of women's bodies. This video shares its history from 1954 to today and includes Coco herself as well as Karl Lagerfeld and how he has maintained its classic elements while also extending how this piece is viewed.
In the 1920's, when Coco Chanel unveiled the Little Black Dress, it was yet another item that we would continue to add to our lists that would become apart of our fashion staples. Coco knew about LBDs and their staying power. It's something we gravitate towards many cocktail to black tie functions and one that never goes out of style. At the same time, it's easy to get stuck in a rut. When you're hitting your next function, think about how your dress can get an update. Whether you have a series of LBD's that you cycle through or you're purchasing a new one, there is no rule that states that it must be accessorized a certain way. I just recently fell in love with the house of Vionnet which has amazing styles that take a classic and bring another aspect to it - in essence the looks are reimagined which breathes a new life into each piece.
In many cases, I am a fan of securing the dress, wearing sterling silver pieces that also have black in them whether it's onyx, hematite or black sapphire and then it's all about the shoes or the clutch. It's these two areas where I bring in my personality and the unexpected. Many find it daunting when they opt for shoes outside of black and gravitate towards red, gold, silver, a skin or an animal print. Although these are great choices - what about a completely unexpected color and throwing in a bit of texture to boot! I'm loving the blush color as we all know that black and blush are fashions new "sushi and sake" pairings of style; however, how cute is it that as opposed to a rounded toe or peep toe - that we have a ruffled bootie by Cesare Paciotti? Whether you wear this with a simple sheath or even a dress that has ruching, gathering, a cowl effect etc - this is the perfect way to play with fun proportions!
As many of you know, I love knowing what a brand was like before it was something that we all considered drool worthy of being within our closets! I enjoyed reading The Towering World of Jimmy Choo and loved learning about the importance of proper financing and maintaining the creativity of a brand in order to ensure that it can compete effectively amongst companies that have a deep rooted heritage. Another favorite designer of mine is Chanel! I love her timeless quality and of course I have always been curious to know more about what she was like and how she was inspired to create this amazing brand. Soon, many will begin to learn more about her in Avant Coco Chanel which translates to 'Before Coco Chanel'. Prior to being a fashionable force, she was merely Coco who wanted to get out of her day to day job in order to grasp her true passions. Check out the trailer and I'll let you know what I think of the movie!
