I did an editorial for Coutorture during one of the super rainy day of Fashion Week!
As I was sitting in the tents with my favorite people from Coutorture, Ms Julie herself asked if I would like to head into the Rubin Singer show. Can I just say that this nautical oriented show was amazing??? I loved the fabrics and the style. It made me want to go on one of those amazing luxury cruises as I walked on my private balcony! It was definitely my favorite show of the day and I loved that the music was perfect throughout the show (very fun and upbeat); moreover, prior to the start of the show there was purple mood lighting and the sounds of birds. I was definitely transported!
On past Fashionable Fridays I have shared interesting editorials, cute outfits that I considered to be a must and how it would look amazing with denim and anything else you can get your hands on. But as of this week, something amazing has taken place and in my mind’s eye, this is as big as many of the industries that continue to bubble at the service within the fashion industry. Right now we talk about two issues, that we want our models to reflect real people in the sense that they should look healthy and not as if they are seconds from fainting. In addition, our models should also reflect us as a people – coming in a variety of hues and that there should be an increased goal to ensure that our runways give everyone an opportunity to show how garments look. The runways promoting positive health and also promoting the very awareness that Italian Vogue did in their ground breaking issue of showing various black models. I commend anyone that can be the first or be apart of any movement that aims to change the face of how we see everything around us. Although I have made strides to change something whether it is within the industry or not, I have not placed myself on a platform that says, “here I am, recognize me as I am apart of this team”.

Sarah Conley, Coutorture Community Manager, Style IT Editor, make up artist and my friend who has helped me learn much more about social media and just what it means to be connected even when you don’t see each other everyday (yet you share the same city) – is on this platform. This Fashion Week as I become excited in not only attending the shows but sharing it with you, I felt the need to focus on the preparation and what it’s like to be there in one of fashion’s greatest tests of endurance. Sarah aims to launch the ground breaking webisodes of "On the Plus Side: A Fuller Figured Fashion Week", a documentary on what it means to be a plus size woman covering New York Fashion Week. To know Sarah is to know someone that is so vibrant and passionate about what she does that you are also engaged in what she is working on as well. This is someone who has style and so much so that many of the clothing companies: NARS, Old Navy, B & Lu, Lane Bryant, Silhouettes and Kathryn Kerrigan are assisting her so she can inspire other plus sized women to embrace their inner style and to be comfortable in their own skin.
With this big step and with so many people supporting Sarah within the blogosphere (Girl Woman Beauty Brains) and in PR (PR Couture), I felt that it was necessary to show my support for my friend. I am not only supporting her by creating an exclusive lariat necklace from my line, Kitten Couture for Sarah. This necklace will be named Lola (pictured below and is constructed of Mother of Pearl, Green Chips and vibrant Red Coral), and a percentage of the proceeds will be given to an organizations that encourages young girls to strive for their goals as they continue to gain a strong sense of self.
But as she covers NYFW and explores "On the Plus Side", we will also play her videos here as well to keep you in the loop! I have had the honor of hearing this from a plan to seeing it morph into an amazing plan. Although Sarah's focus is on representing a positive statement on being a plus sized woman and participating in NYFW, I can't help thinking that this is also a cry for all of us to enjoy who we are no matter our size, height, appearance etc! Stay tuned and also stay tuned to the sites mentioned within this post who will also be covering this. If you are a company that is interested in assisting Sarah, then please reach out so that you can be apart of this event as well!
Sometimes when I need to get away for a day or a few hours and I'm, in between things, I take out my laptop and commit to not working but just seeing what's out there. It's an interesting battle that I have. When I have technology in my hands, it tends to be that I am working on promoting my jewelry, sites, etc. I'm always finding time to communicate with people but it's in between working. This is why I have my temporary moments when I take some time away.
When I do, I love really looking at sites that I may see all the time but may not be able to emerse myself into due to multi-tasking. Coutorture is one that I love taking a break with and there is an amazing photoshoot that they created and that my friend and Coutorture Community Manager, Sarah Conley, did the make up for.
The Sun Doesn't Care is such a fun series due to its use of color and because I am a fan of accessories, I love how they pop out and really are a dominant focal point. I was unaware of Deka Ray but now I am totally hooked and if you have seen me in my jewelry, you know that I love pieces that definitely draw your eye right to them! Even my own collection, Kitten Couture, has a way of grabbing your attention or at least creating chatter! This is my favorite image as I love purple and how it pops out. Of course there are other pictures so check out their original photoshoot and my friend's work as well! Finally, if you want more Deka Ray, she is in today's post on sister blog, See Pretty Things
Last week I talked about how much I liked Poko Pano and now I can show you my favorite bikini from last night's show at the Mercedes Benz Swim Miami Fashion Week Show at the Oasis. I love that there is a lot of sweet and sass in this collection and you're super beach ready when you are wearing these cool colors. I love the play with prints and the fact that this suit is definitely complimentary with its top and bottom; however, it isn't matchy matchy! What a great show to be included with the end of this series of Fashion Week since last night was the final day. There are a lot of shows and images that are still amazing to look at, so click the link above. For next year when considering attending the shows, think about how you can get that amazing VIP access by purchasing your tickets through AMEX so that you're not only front row but you can enjoy other member only benefits such as the parties and the trunk shows. In addition to checking out the main site, Coutorture has also kept a close eye on the shows so you can also check it out here as well!
Happy Fourth of July everyone! Hopefully you will be spending today going to some great parties, having drinks and much more. A few weeks ago, Diane Von Furstenburg presented their Resort 2009 collection. First off, you know that I love DVF and this is my favorite dress of the entire collection. There is something to be said for classic lines, interesting prints and the use of classic colors too! All of that put together makes for a classic look that is also dynamic which will let you stand out. These pictures and more are available on Coutorture so that you can get a sneek peek on her resort collection and additional designers as well.
So, last night I went to see Sex and the City with some of the ladies from Coutorture! Yes it's amazing that the movie has only been out for a few days and that not only did I not read/see any of the spoilers BUT I really loved the part when one of the characters is in the DVF store in the Meat Packing District. Seeing that and the fact that I was with Coutorture, made me think of how much I loved my time at the store and wearing the dress that I still dream about on a daily basis! Once again, I can't say how much I love DVF and how kind everyone was at that event!
That being said, I also love that DVF knows how to get your eye without making it too over the top. I love this string bikini that is in a very resort like blue shade with pops of white and cream. This such a classic from the style, the color and much more. I really love this suit and the fact that it works well for today while also bringing in elements of another time period - this is definitely how fashion stays relevant. So check out more pieces from DVF on ShopBop.com and I believe that they are having a sample sale right now so you can find some cute items that will make you perfect for the summer and the fall as well!
I love many of the images from Christian Dior's Cruise 2009 Collection. There are so many vibrant colors that pop, I love the infusion of the essence of the Southern Belle mixed with the island babe. My favorite outfit from the entire show is this dress. I love that it's fashionable confection! Obviously the colors are very complimentary to one another and I love the length. This is the perfect item to wear when you go to a friends cocktail party on their rooftop or in the Hamptons! At the same time, this reminds me of a dress that would have been a favorite for me to put on my Barbie! The sleek look with the ruffle is perfect and I love the necklace that was paired with this piece. This is definitely the effortless and comfortable look that you would want to wear when being out and about. It's not a bad idea to think about wearing a cute hat with this as well. Take some time to visit Coutorture to see all of the images available from this show and many other Cruise oriented runway shows as well! If you're cruised out, you're bound to find other great items as well!
The best thing about being apart of the Coutorture network is to see a variety of writers that talk about various areas in fashion and beauty. When I first started writing, my focus was purely accessories. I enjoy writing about all items that within this category on See Pretty Things. Of course after writing about this, I realized that I wanted to be able to bring in entertainment and style so I included that within this blog - The Kitten Lounge. This site has definitely stepped it up by adding additional elements and today I launch Beauty! I am really excited that going forward, Thursday will covers makeup and cosmetics. I want to share with you my favorite products and those that have just hit the market! Previously I have posted about this here and there but to have this as an ongoing selection makes me very happy!
With that being said I am including my 2nd favorite item that I love using. Those who know me know that I love my MAC Studio Fix powder. I love the coverage and how natural it is and whenever I am out and about, this is in my bag and knows that it is time to travel. Recently, I became a fan of
as I have her baked products that include bronzer and eye shadow. As we transitioned from winter to spring and on to summer (and because I am never without my lip gloss or balm), I wanted to find a nice Lip Strip that would ensure that my lips would stay soft! This soft sugar scrub comes in a tiny cute container and can be massaged on the lip for about one minute. I love that there is a great peppermint taste if you happen to taste it by accident and upon first use, this $15 product is absolutely worth having! Available exclusively on Sephora.com - this is a must have no matter where you go. I use it about once a week after I have used my mask. It's a nice quick spa with great results.
The amazing DVF/Coutorture member blog photoshoot took place a few days ago but the positive feedback has been amazing. I have loved all the comments and there were so many people that were apart of the shoot that it was absolutely an amazing experience! First off, who doesn't look amazing wearing DVF with her amazing lines and pops of color and style. Each image shows us a bit of the various bloggers. One of my favorite scenes that I enjoyed watching was when the Shoe Blog (shown left) was having shoes added to the scene. Obviously, this was critical seeing that her blog features nothing but shoes and only the best could be apart of this scene. Watching the staff grabbing shoes and adding them to create a greater impact was absolutely amazing to watch! Now if you're interested in seeing more bloggers that participated, you need to check out the gallery on Coutorture for Bloggers X DVF! Get to know more about the thoughts and ideas of what happened and some of the best images that took place during this fabulous night!
If you read See Pretty Things yesterday, you know that I was still giddy post my DVF shoot! I still can't believe how much fun it was and all the people that we were able to meet that were apart of the Coutorture network. It's amazing to see Bloggers (which while talking with Sarah I explained that I prefer the term Digital Journalist since many of us treat our writing as something that is a career and a major focus due to having multiple assignments and consistent content) that you read about on a daily basis in front of you! I also loved that we wanted to know about basic things such as what keeps us inspired and how we got into what we love so much! It was not only a little girl's fantasy come true but also an education and being able to reach out to those that work within our industry as professionals and not competitors!
Beyond gushing about that, I am already spending "yet to be deposited" checks to think about all the pieces I want in my closet. Obviously this gorgeous dress would be one of them and I would be more than happy to wear this (hello Alicia Keyes wore this dress) to a function launching a new collection of my line Kitten Couture (I was pleased that I was able to wear one of my pieces within this pic - so glad that Grace fit in!). With all of that being said, it was an inspirational and amazing night that i will definitely think about. Of course you can never go wrong wearing Diane Von Furstenberg which I am a huge fan of and would be more than happy to be invited to any future event that is out there! Thank you so much DVF team, Coutorture and everyone else that made this experience one that will be remembered!
UPDATE: As a side note, Trendy Thursdays will now incorporate Beauty! I am so excited about this as this is something that I have always wanted to add as a regular fixture. As many of you know, there are a variety of new things that will be popping up on the site. I look forward to sharing these great finds with you! Tune in to the next Trendy Thursdays to get the best of what's out there in the beauty world.
I love a lot of the runway shows that have emerged with that fab summer theme and of course, my eye is always on the accessoires portion. Currently, Coutorture has posted Oscar De La Renta's amazing cruise collection and as much as I loved so much that I saw, I couldn't take my eye off of this fabulous bag. Not only is it roomy and has a great handle but I love love the texture on this bag. It's so easy and luxurious at the same time! You can definitely slip your laptop on this bag and a slim line notepad as well along with who knows what else you're prone to carry at a moments notice! Take a moment to visit both galleries on Coutorture - the accessories collection and then the line in total! Once again, when you can't get to the runways or had no idea there was a show, it's nice to know that from the convenience of your home you can see everything!
First off, Coutorture has an amazing segment that looks at amazing designs and pairs them with starfish. For example, looking at this beautiful dress, you can see a bit of the starfish on the right! If you love this gallery, you will want to visit Coutorture to see additional images that are apart of the "Three As Four for Starfish" Gallery. I love how seeing the two images together, generate a lot of similarities. Obviously, you can also enjoy other fashion shows and interesting editorials that they have created on their own! It's always nice to know that there is something fashionable going on and between visiting this site and seeing other blogs such as this that are apart of the community, you will never run short of getting your fix satisfied! These images are not only fashionable; however, it leads to something that will be introduced on The Kitten Lounge over the next few weeks!
As many of you know, I am all about style, entertainment and a great time as well. To this end, I want to introduce the component of travel. Throughout the next few weeks of the summer and going into Indian Summer/the fall, I will be taking you into places that are a car, plane or train ride away. We all have our favorite places to go to and sometimes with half day Fridays and extended weekends you want to go somewhere that you weren't aware of whether it is down the turnpike or in another state! I hope to bring you cute restaurants, boutiques and so much more. It will be like an ongoing travel guide of sorts which you can refer to no matter when you opt to go! If you have a place you would like to highlight, let me know as I am getting my Ame & Lulu bag packed for these great weekends!
At any given time someone is strutting on the runway wearing something fabulous and during this portion of Australian Fashion Week, Leonard Salinas' collection hit the catwalk with amazing pops of color that you can definitely see in this shot. First off, I love his silhouettes and he definitely knows how to show some of our best parts - it's nice to bring back that old elegance and to mix it up with interesting embellishment and also amazing rich hues! This is not for the faint at heart.
Now I have to say, that this beautiful grey/silver piece caught my eye since it is one of my favorite colors to wear and I loved the detailing on the neck as well. I wasn't sure if it was something that I would personally wear but I think that this shapes the body well and would be amazing to wear to an opening at a gallery, a cocktail event launching a book that just hit the New York Times or any other occassion that calls upon us to step it up when it comes to our attire. But I think the magic in this piece comes when this model gives us another view.
The back of this dress took me off guard completely and instantly this become a piece that I want in my collection ASAP. I love that this simple look completely makes this dress go from safe to daring and yet your inner Audrey never has to wonder if this is appropriate to wear to the functions mentioned above. This dress is perfect to pair with a necklace that is intended to be worn down your back and of course you hair down is perfect but having it in a messy updo of sorts wouldn't be a bad idea. If you love this piece and the peeks that you can see in the background, see more from this show and others on Coutorture!
I love the backdrop of Australian Fashion Week! I think that it would be fun to see a show with the city in the background! How great would it be to be able to catch a show walking across a promenade even if you weren't really invited. I love that Jayson Brunsdon has created an elegant and fun line that is very simple but with pop elements of color and or interesting cuts. I love the tunic like look of this outfit which presents a 30's glam/mod look. I also love the orange hues and the abstract design as well. But this piece isn't completely overwhelming since the design is only shown in concentrated areas. This is a great piece to wear to a gala or an opening of great art at a friend's gallery. This definitely makes you look like a goddess wherever you decide to wear it! Take some time to see more looks from this talented designer on Coutorture as they continue to present Fashion Week events around the globe.
During Australia Fashion Week, a variety of designers hit the runways with amazing looks and models to complete the image of course. I have to say that I love this collection although I have never seen Thurley before! I love this dress since it is a very simple cut and then has great pop factor with the beautiful design that is on the front of the dress. If you love this look and more, you'll enjoy seeing more from this collection at Coutorture which is a great place to go for original editorial shoots and also amazing runway shows from around the world.
No matter where you are there is always a runway show going on somewhere across one of the many catwalks that are on the globe! No matter what you have access to them whether you were in the venue or you look at a variety of shows via amazing sources. One of those great sources includes Coutorture which brings the best of fashion, blogs such as this one and of course amazing editorials as well!
This runway show is from Peter Som during his SS08 Runway show. Although this look is being presented within this post, you can visit the site to see the rest of the amazing outfits that were presented during the show. I love that this look takes the idea of "Lady in Red" to another level. I love that this dress has the look of the "Ladies Who Lunch" but isn't stuffy and can have a lot of fun! This dress is definitely like a lot of other pieces within his collection in that the cocktail style of dress is played up and has a lot of fun elements. This can definitely be worn with the sweetest of ballet flats and of course, a great pair of heels as well. Of course, you can find more amazing designers on Coutorture as well.
Most people know that I am not really someone who runs after what I call "traditional" luxury brands. It's not that I don't think they are amazing, but I love supporting designers that are indie or strive to make unique piece where you will not find yourself coming and going. Eugenia Kim is one of my favorite designers and she was commissioned to make hats for Coach! This hat, known as the Maude, is apart of this collection and if you would like to see more - visit Coutorture for additional pieces. There are a lot of fun elements that breathe an interesting life into this iconic brand!
This weekend I am going to a wedding. I love weddings! I love seeing what the guests wear, what the bride chose and everything that goes along with it. It makes you think about your own - even if it is just for a second and you know that it is a long time away. I have always been a fan of strapless gowns and I'm always torn by what the bottom portion would look like. I can only imagine what it would be like to find a dress - I can't even decide on what shoes I absolutely love to wear with my jeans!
Anyway, Coutorture has one of my favorite designers who does bridal wear - Carolina Herrera and the shoot is amazing and is definitely like a living fairy tale. This dress is definitely something that I will love and if you're in the market or know someone who is, you may want to let them know that they can see all this and more at Coutorture!
So the concept of LAGOON is a favorite of mine because it incorporates obviously blues and greens but also being able to enjoy the sun and all that comes with that. I love this outfit that came from the runways of Michael Kors (which you know I am a huge fan of his sense of great classic American style) and is apart of a collection of images from Coutorture. I love the bold color and the concept of the sun kissed island babe. You know with Michael he incorporate this goddess tone into everything that he presents! Even this silver girl gets sucked into his love for gold and bronze!
You guys March is almost over and our homage to THINK CITRUS is rapidly coming to a close and bringing us closer to next month's focus which I am VERY excited about. But sometimes in an effort to think too far ahead, I forget about enjoy where I am right now. So today, as I looked through Coutorture which is definitely a first stop on what's going on in fashion, I saw the epitome of what is citrus and amazing! Antoinette Lee Spring has a photoshoot that is currently showing on Coutorture and she has a lot of cute bags but this yellow Dolcita clutch is so cute - dare I say that it is all about the luxe lemon? I love the buckle hardware and the little studs - of course who wouldn't love how small it is! So this is something that you can pop into your wardrobe at anytime when the weather is a little dreary or you need a quick pick me up. In addition, there are so many fun pieces in this collection with names to match that you will want to know much more about. Visit the site and start making your picks on what you will be clutching this season.
When I think about Fashion Week - I love that it continues no matter where you are! Today, we highlight in this Trendy Thursday segment, Joeffer Caoc's Toronto Fashion Week Show. Initially, I came across this fab designer while checking out today's Coutorture recap of this portion of the runway Fashion Week. For the purpose of this post, I wanted to introduce a designer that was new to me and that I definitely wanted to let you guys know about. I love this outfit I think that in terms of the top - I love that it is a one shoulder and has a bit of that Grecian vibe which is very femme and exotic. I also love that it is paired with a pair of cuffed shorts which is so South Beach! I think this is a nice addition to the concept of THINK CITRUS! Check out more of Joeffer Caoc on his site and see the amazing pieces from his collection.
I love Fridays! It's the end of the week and yet you have the possibilities of a full weekend in front of you as well. You can enjoy this Fashion Week Show by Christian Dior. It's definitely an ode to the '60's with the larger then life hair, cat eyes, and fabulous accessories. Happy Friday and enjoy John Galliano's Fall/Winter 2008 show, provided to us courtesy of Coutorture.
I love this season! There is a show every where you turn and we can all allow our inner (fill in the blank) Audrey Hepburn or Elizabeth Taylor come out. Although many of these pieces may not be something that you would wear out, you can definitely take some nods from these fashion greats! Fortunately, I am a fan and would wear anything that came off this runway! Salvatore Ferragamo is one of my favorite designers and recently in Milan he unveiled a line that I would not mind having in my closet!
My favorite outfit (that I would wear in a jiffy) is this super cute cocktail dress that not only wraps and has a beautiful key hole effect, but it also has a cute scarf. This is such a sassy look which makes us all feel that we are red carpet ready. I love the classic blue color and I love the snazzy elements that allow for shimmer. In addition, I love the idea that you can pair this with a cute clutch (I am so about this and feel that it is a fashion essential).
The peek a boo effect of this outfit is so cute! This is perfect to wear along or over denim and leggings. This is perfect for a night out when you are going to a premiere of some sort and you want to show how cool you look. Once again the shimmer is much appreciated!
This outfit makes me think of a disco dancer. I love the shape of this outfit and how it fits the upper body and instead of becoming a dress, it's a pant suit that is not only sexy but extremely classy as well. I love the black, white and grey colors of this piece.
My favorite "night time" look from this collection is this top. I love how it loops around the neck and the pop of color which shows a green portion of this outfit. I have always been a fan of this look and with a little Hollywood Tape, this is an outfit that will have every eye looking at you no matter where you go. Although I have shown a few images here, make sure you visit Coutorture to see more from this show and many others!
A very interesting photoshoot was created over at Coutorture, entitled Brace Yourself - see more images by visiting this link. I have to admit that when I first started looking at the uncomfortable positions and props used in the shoot, it was easy to overlook the Frye Boots, Helmut Lang and Toms Shoes. How can so many great pieces look so disconcerting? There is something to be said about Editorial shoots that create a social commentary about our day to day practices. Whether we dress in a high fashion way or go completely casual - we all have a way that we allow our styles to impose some level of discomfort so that we can look amazing on a daily basis. At the same time, we do this so frequently that we don't even think about - in a way we take on a "No Pain, No Gain" attitude. During the day we look past our discomfort only to relish the evening when we find our preferred attire and settings.
In the first image, Elie Model, Lauren Hanawalt is wearing a cute swing jacket and top with Toms Shoes (love these shoes). As swan like as Lauren look, she actually has leg braces on. Instantly this makes me think of ways that I love presenting the winter version of myself. Typically, you'll see that I wear three inch heel boots. If asked, I would say that I feel completely comfortable; however, I have to admit that throughout the day, I do notice that although my feet look super tiny and arched, they definitely feel the sense of relief when they are pulled out of the boots. Don't even mention the fact that I wear boots that are nearly knee length, although this is definitely cozy and keeps me warm - I am always pleased when my legs are brought to fresh air. In this sense, as we all walk to work - chilly wearing our skirts (no matter how cute are stockings are - they aren't that warm), wearing our boots and pumps we may look absolutely amazing but we continue to "Brace Ourselves" in spite of our discomfort.
When I look beyond my choice of footwear (although the reward for my work in the winter and fall is flip flops in the summer), I am instantly reminded of another way that I literally support my need to be fashionable. I am one of those girls that love wearing large bags. I have to say that I do need it since I am always running errands from showroom to showroom and who knows what in between. I love my large leather bags with compartments; however, there are times when I definitely feel the weight of my choice and think that it would be much simpler to carry something smaller and to separate myself from all those elements that add extra weight. Interestingly enough when I go out for the night or on vacation, it's amazing that I can go down to a clutch where I only need cash, keys, cell and lip gloss - why must I add on more than this?
I was really intrigued by this photoshoot (which can be seen in its entirety at Coutorture) as it allows me to think about the choice that I make everytime I walk out the door to head to my destination. As cute or chic as we all look we are all supporting a discomfort in some way that makes our style "work". These options can also include our beauty regimen (my need to have a mani/pedi every week), workouts and more. To Brace Yourself is an interesting set of choices that become a way of life that regardless of our personal feelings, it's how we operate and socialize with others. By visiting the site, you can look at other Coutorture members' thoughts about this subject and what it means to them.
