Today is Saturday, November 21, 2009
I love when I present segments of items that can be worn during the day and then work straight into the night. When it comes to cute dresses that are femme and waiting to get dressed up, Anthropologie is a great go to store! Not only is it fun to shop in the store or online, but they have a lot of to choose from. I love this Abydos dress which reminds me of something that has a bit of an Egyptian look. I love the sash and that it seems like such an easy dress. When paired with this gorgeous bronze cuff you're half way to being completely accessorized! Of course you can always add a little more. The Swarovski Crystals have an elegant style that creates a great silhouette against your neck and the heels - this pair from DSquared2 is absolutely stunning. I love the pops of gold and the natural element to this shoe as well. You can go from day to night whether you're heading off to a cocktail party or simply going out with your significant other!
Last weekend I happened to be in White House Black Market (which I have to say I have only been in a handful of times and although I'm a huge fan of black, I never find anything there) and fell in love with this dress - they didn't have any more in my size but I knew I wanted to include the Flutter Tier Ruffle Dress within a spread. On my 30th birthday back in September, one of my very good friends wore a flapper girl style dress and I knew I wanted one. When I saw this dress, I saw the similarities and actually loved this one more as it doesn't have fringes but just ruffles. On the website, they suggest that this could be paired with jeans (I question this) but without a doubt it's super cute with black tights which give it a classic macabre, victorian look which is stunning or you can go without tights - I have to say that I would keep the tights. With the dark elements of this dress, I would definitely pair it with fab gold pieces and of course you can't go wrong with a pair of Louboutin's to pull everything together and to give a pop of color as you walk away!
With the holiday season coming closer, we'll be going to a variety of parties so why not some fun interpretations on the classic black dress? You can also play around with whatever look your interested in as well!
Actress Sandra Oh ~ "Grey's Anatomy" @ Emmy's red carpet
Last night I watched the Emmy pre show on E! with some friends (@nikisnotes, @tasty_morsels, @mizcity and @anneobrien at the @rshotel) since we were watching Jeannine Morris (Editor in Chief at the Beauty Sweet Spot @beautysweetspot) make her debut on the red carpet talking about the beauty products that the celebs were wearing. After her segment, we settled in to watch the stars hit the carpet. Now we know that there are a lot of people who have something to do with what the stars wear; however, there must have been a memo on accessories! Not only was it decided to go minimal but poor necklaces got the short end of the stick. Yes, we're all aware that we should be more conscious about how we spend money or how we go about presenting ourselves as it seems uncouth to throw your money around; however, wearing gorgeous gowns that are strapless without a necklace is empty and made everyone look like they had forgotten something. The red carpets are times when people love to see what is being worn and they want to enjoy the fantasy - leaving out necklaces doesn't add to this and only confuses the entire situation. One of my favorite looks was Sandra Oh's (Grey's Anatomy) dress (although I wasn't a fan of the hot pink shoes but maybe she got the other memo that hot pink was the look last night) she looked amazing and I loved her clutch and her ring. But of course, she wasn't wearing a necklace. Here are two fabulous options that she could have gone with to make her dress pop (in many cases the pieces that the stars wear are on loan so this is more of a reason that necklaces shouldn't have been abandoned).
My avid readers know that yesterday, we talked about the importance of going out for a Girl's Night Out. When it comes to going out, if I don't know what the plan is - I like to dress comfortably while having a look that could g anywhere. In these situations, I turn to my summer favorites. I love Express' tube dress which is a bandeau on the top and then hits to about my calves. This is perfect to wear to the beach or on a night out. I got one in black and I love that I can dress it up and down depending on what's going on. When it comes to accessories, I attended Charllotte Russe's launch party which showcased collaborations that they have done for this fall with People's Liberation, Kitson, etc. Within their goodie bag, they had a super cute necklace and magnetic cuff (the clearer picture is courtesy of Budget Babe Blog). I love that these are embellished fabric pieces that definitely add a bit of rockstar glitz to your look! For my footwear if I'm not in heels, I usually go with my Havaianas. I love this pair as these are my go to since they're super comfortable and I love giving a shout out to Brazil (I have a little Brazilian so it's nice to sport the flag). I'm known for wearing a large cocktail ring of sorts and in the summer, I love wearing a large shell! Although I got my ring (worn in the bottom picture) in the Dominican Republic earlier this year, you can check out Lena Bernard's site to see which ring works best for you. It's large and a nice piece of jewelry to where that allows people to stop and ask you about it. Finally, I love the fact that bags are definitely something that you notice when you go out with your girls. Once you have the bag taken care of, you have to think about the wallet. I am in love with my Jimmy Choo wallet which is a great statement and a great pop of color as well! These are great pieces that you can use in various situations and events. All the links within the spread can be clicked on - so think about what your staples are for the summer and what looks great when it comes to going from day to night and event to event.
Oh man! I’m beginning and ending my summer with a bang! We’re kicking it off with a Lobster Broil at the house and we will end the summer with a big bash – my 30th birthday in South Beach at my favorite hotel, Loews! Oh yes this is going to be an amazing summer (I’ll totally bypass the fact that we have had quite a bit of rain). So with that said, how do I dress for a party that’s at home with friends that begins early and goes to the wee hours of the morning? I’m all about the maxi dress – it’s stylish and comfortable and gives you so many possibilities whether you go with bold colors, stripes, etc. I love this dress and it’s available at Victoria’s Secret (another one of my favorites for day wear). With this bold color and simple look, I’m able to add my accessories to really let me stand out as the hostess of the party.
With the high neck, I love a simple choker, such as Christofle's 925 piece available on Vivre, that doesn’t fight with my look and yet doesn’t make my neck look completely naked. I love Max & Chloe's large cuff and this hammered one is perfect to add a bit of the earthy vibe and of course the ring – you know I love a pop of color! Elizabeth Ngo's Large Ornate Victorian Glass Ring in Turquoise adds a mixture of various eras from Victorian, Grecian, etc.The maxi is the way to go and you can find one that’s perfect for you in various price points. A lobster broil in Long Island and the love of the beach, this is a great way for me to show all of that with this simple look!
Yes it's cold out there and although we haven't gotten through the worse part, I love the fact that Spring is around the corner. Over the next few months I'll be traveling to Orlando, Dominican Republic, South Beach, LA, Chicago and possibly Costa Rica. Except for Chicago, the other locations are all warm weather bound (we also have our crawfish and lobster boil during the summer which will take place at our condo with friends)! I've definitely started to purchase a few dresses that will be perfect for these trips. I love my t-shirt/tank and jeans/yoga pants; however, it's nice to glam it up every now and then! To that end, I have been looking for various pieces that are perfect to wear for drinks, going out dancing, etc.
Last last fall, I had the opportunity to learn about Single Dress! I love that they embody "South Beach style". I love the prints, styles and just the element of resort style. Of course you don't have to wait until you go on vacation to wear these pieces. It's perfect to party at the Meat Packing District, to take up to the Hamptons and more. In addition to super cute dresses, Single Dress and its various collections can also be worn with your favorite jeans and shoes as well. Take some time to check out more from this line and to see what looks the celebs have worn as well.
There are so many great looks for NYE whether you're trying to look a certain way based on where you're going or just to fit your mood. These are some of my favorite looks! I love the Edie Cover Up as it is DVF which I am a fan of! This is perfect for that South Beach pool party that will be perfect to wear while the ball drops! I love Lauren Conrad's collection. Readers of this blog know that I wore her collection as I reported about the action on the runway in the tents! This halter maxi is from Express and I will have a dress similar to this in plum. I love the shape of dresses such as this as it definitely brings that goddess effect! I also love this darling Tracy Reese dress which is a classic body with the colorblock! No matter where you are or what you're doing, this is a day to look fab and I think that these are great places to start (I would be pleased to have any of these in my closet)!
I am starting to embrace a type of accessory that has been very foreign in my closet! Although I liked looking at pearls, I never thought it would be something that I would wear. This all changed when Moon River Pearls reached out to me! Who knew that pearls could transcend so many styles and provide so many looks? I love layering my pieces with chokers or other bangles. The pearls that are shown below are full of color and go from Little Black Dress to an extremely casual outfit with jeans and there is absolutely no granny factor here! Visit the site and although there are the traditional pearls, I love that they have great looks that are outside of the box - you'll never look at pearls the same way again!
Now that Fashion Week is no longer a priority, I start to think about the rest of the year. With my birthday being last Fri, it always marks the middle of the month for me. It then makes me think about the fact that there are only three full months left and most of it becomes VERY holiday oriented. My sister was born on Halloween, so it's always important for me to think about what I will wear to her parties! This year she is reflecting back to her days at Duke where she enjoyed "Headmaster and Mistress Parties". When I was in college at IU, we never has a huge thing about having a theme but every weekend my sister seemed to go another themed event and this was one of my favorites. So I knew that I would be in a cute school girl outfit and my boyfriend would have to look like a professor or something like that. Around this time, Yandy.com which is known for their variety of costumes let me know that it was never too early to think about Halloween.
Ever since I have been in NYC, Halloween is never complete without standing in line at Ricky's days before the big party; however, this year I vowed that I wouldn't do this. I would have my costumes and then I could spend more time accessorizing them! So within today's gallery you can see my images and as I go to the parties, of course, you will see me in them. This year I will be Sexy Dorothy, a Geisha Doll and also Sexy Schoolgirl. What a great combo and it's nice to dress differently to each function that I will attend.
The good thing is that we can all enjoy these costumes by visiting Yandy and seeing what looks best. Each day, there are new items being added and they have great accessories such as shoes and more to make sure that you fully get into character. What are you going as for Halloween? Do you have favorite places? I will continue to do a weekly post sharing about where you can go and various discounts that are out there - stay tuned!
The other day I was watching a current season of The Hills, you know the episode where Lauren went to Stephanie's birthday party. I love the dress that Lauren wore by Twinkle! The blue and yellow work so well together and I love the whimsical elements of this dress that make you feel like you're ready for whatever party you're about to head out to! So once I saw this dress, I decided to head over to ShopBop.com to see if they carried it and they do! This dress, known as 'The Last Call' is too cute to pass up and is definitely on my list of musts to get!
My earliest memory of eyelet was when I was little. I had it in my crib and the growing up, I had it as a bedskirt. I was always fascinated with the delicate lace like fabric with the "little holes" as I used to say. I always associated this fabric with bedding coming in cream and white. But as I grew up, I realized that eyelet didn't have to be confined to just bedding and that it could be made to look very sassy while still being forward and sweet. Here are great looks that include eyelet with pops of color (who doesn't love yellow or blue). I also love that it is totally perfect for bed time. Eyelet is perfect to wear to a garden party or Hamptons event (once again the pop of color is noticed). Then again, it can be paired with jeans for a fun night out on the town! For a look that is perfect for pool side or a party by one, try the yellow tunic dress or even the blue top with a cute pair of leggings! Ah the versatility - something for everyone
One of my favorite fashion icons is Audrey Hepburn. How can you go wrong. Well when you think about adding classic elements to your wardrobe, think about pairing skinny jeans with heels, the classic black dress, the cute trench coat and a cute geometric dress. The great thing about these pieces is that they can all be accessorized to your personal taste and you'll never have to wonder about what to wear for an evening function that is slightly dressy but casual or what to wear when you're meeting the girl for drinks!
I love this selection of pieces and of course no ode to Audrey could be complete without having Ms Hepburn herself courtesy of Getty images!

Yes summer is coming to an end but that doesn't mean that the parties dry up! In fact there are more functions and we need to be prepared while also being economical. I am a huge fan of Ella Moss and I love this Black Label Samantha One Shoulder Dress (available in black and also in a regal plum). This has the perfect amount of sass that you would want to take to a final summer house party, a release of a product or anything that means you need to look amazing. The dress is so easy that you need to only think of what heels and what your clutch will look like. If it's a bit chilly, you may want to think of a wrap but other then that you're ready to go! I love that this dress is on sale and looks super cute as well. There are plenty of items from Ella Moss that are currently on ShopBop.com so make sure that you visit the site and start making your list!
I Love Lucy, Anthropologie and a lot of those ultra femme looks that bring the past into the present! There is something to be said about having an ultra girly look to go out for brunch, a rooftop party and much more. It sets you apart without a doubt. If you love this kind of look whether you love that which is from the Flapper Days of the 30's or super cute dresses from the 50's - Unique Vintage, is your store!
I love wearing dresses like this because I think that it shows the figure so well and looks amazing with peep toe pumps. This black and white polka dot dress is my absolute favorite from this site. I love the halter back and the bow (oh so Lucy) and I love that it zips up the back, has some ruching and is a little stretchy in the fabric. Of course you can have a cocktail party as well and pair it up with a cute apron from Anthropologie. As you walk around, you can also wear a super cute clutch with this as well which is another great touch. In addition to this style, there are so many other fab pieces that are definitely affordable that you should begin to include within your closet!
Last Fri the runways were full of bathing suits and fabulous swimwear! One of my favorite designers, Syla by Sylvie Cachay, hit the catwalk with a super cute Boho Chic look! My favorite look from this show is definitely this piece! I love the simple cream color but the accessories are absolutely amazing and definitely something that I would wear! It's hard to say which accessory is my favorite but clearly my eye was drawn to the belt which looks like it could be agate but I'm not sure. This piece would look cute with a slim fitting jersey or over a tank and a pair of jeans. I love this natural style and think that sometimes it's nice to go beyond wearing prints and to go with something simple and chic which looks amazing no matter where you opt to wear this. This piece and many more can be see on the Mercedes-Benz Swim Miami Fashion Week site as there were a lot of great looks for this show.
Happy Fourth of July everyone! Hopefully you will be spending today going to some great parties, having drinks and much more. A few weeks ago, Diane Von Furstenburg presented their Resort 2009 collection. First off, you know that I love DVF and this is my favorite dress of the entire collection. There is something to be said for classic lines, interesting prints and the use of classic colors too! All of that put together makes for a classic look that is also dynamic which will let you stand out. These pictures and more are available on Coutorture so that you can get a sneek peek on her resort collection and additional designers as well.
So, last night I went to see Sex and the City with some of the ladies from Coutorture! Yes it's amazing that the movie has only been out for a few days and that not only did I not read/see any of the spoilers BUT I really loved the part when one of the characters is in the DVF store in the Meat Packing District. Seeing that and the fact that I was with Coutorture, made me think of how much I loved my time at the store and wearing the dress that I still dream about on a daily basis! Once again, I can't say how much I love DVF and how kind everyone was at that event!
That being said, I also love that DVF knows how to get your eye without making it too over the top. I love this string bikini that is in a very resort like blue shade with pops of white and cream. This such a classic from the style, the color and much more. I really love this suit and the fact that it works well for today while also bringing in elements of another time period - this is definitely how fashion stays relevant. So check out more pieces from DVF on ShopBop.com and I believe that they are having a sample sale right now so you can find some cute items that will make you perfect for the summer and the fall as well!
If you read See Pretty Things yesterday, you know that I was still giddy post my DVF shoot! I still can't believe how much fun it was and all the people that we were able to meet that were apart of the Coutorture network. It's amazing to see Bloggers (which while talking with Sarah I explained that I prefer the term Digital Journalist since many of us treat our writing as something that is a career and a major focus due to having multiple assignments and consistent content) that you read about on a daily basis in front of you! I also loved that we wanted to know about basic things such as what keeps us inspired and how we got into what we love so much! It was not only a little girl's fantasy come true but also an education and being able to reach out to those that work within our industry as professionals and not competitors!
Beyond gushing about that, I am already spending "yet to be deposited" checks to think about all the pieces I want in my closet. Obviously this gorgeous dress would be one of them and I would be more than happy to wear this (hello Alicia Keyes wore this dress) to a function launching a new collection of my line Kitten Couture (I was pleased that I was able to wear one of my pieces within this pic - so glad that Grace fit in!). With all of that being said, it was an inspirational and amazing night that i will definitely think about. Of course you can never go wrong wearing Diane Von Furstenberg which I am a huge fan of and would be more than happy to be invited to any future event that is out there! Thank you so much DVF team, Coutorture and everyone else that made this experience one that will be remembered!
UPDATE: As a side note, Trendy Thursdays will now incorporate Beauty! I am so excited about this as this is something that I have always wanted to add as a regular fixture. As many of you know, there are a variety of new things that will be popping up on the site. I look forward to sharing these great finds with you! Tune in to the next Trendy Thursdays to get the best of what's out there in the beauty world.
No matter where you are there is always a runway show going on somewhere across one of the many catwalks that are on the globe! No matter what you have access to them whether you were in the venue or you look at a variety of shows via amazing sources. One of those great sources includes Coutorture which brings the best of fashion, blogs such as this one and of course amazing editorials as well!
This runway show is from Peter Som during his SS08 Runway show. Although this look is being presented within this post, you can visit the site to see the rest of the amazing outfits that were presented during the show. I love that this look takes the idea of "Lady in Red" to another level. I love that this dress has the look of the "Ladies Who Lunch" but isn't stuffy and can have a lot of fun! This dress is definitely like a lot of other pieces within his collection in that the cocktail style of dress is played up and has a lot of fun elements. This can definitely be worn with the sweetest of ballet flats and of course, a great pair of heels as well. Of course, you can find more amazing designers on Coutorture as well.
This weekend I am going to a wedding. I love weddings! I love seeing what the guests wear, what the bride chose and everything that goes along with it. It makes you think about your own - even if it is just for a second and you know that it is a long time away. I have always been a fan of strapless gowns and I'm always torn by what the bottom portion would look like. I can only imagine what it would be like to find a dress - I can't even decide on what shoes I absolutely love to wear with my jeans!
Anyway, Coutorture has one of my favorite designers who does bridal wear - Carolina Herrera and the shoot is amazing and is definitely like a living fairy tale. This dress is definitely something that I will love and if you're in the market or know someone who is, you may want to let them know that they can see all this and more at Coutorture!
This image from the Wayne Cooper Fashion Week show in Australia is full of pops of color that are perfect for getting ready for the best colors of the summer. I can imagine wearing this dress knowing that you were going to an amazing beach soiree or some other kind of gala. I love that it is strapless and also flowy so that you can enjoy dancing or just sitting pretty in a nearby Cabana. Make sure you check out more fab looks by Wayne Cooper and the rest of the collection.
I love this season! There is a show every where you turn and we can all allow our inner (fill in the blank) Audrey Hepburn or Elizabeth Taylor come out. Although many of these pieces may not be something that you would wear out, you can definitely take some nods from these fashion greats! Fortunately, I am a fan and would wear anything that came off this runway! Salvatore Ferragamo is one of my favorite designers and recently in Milan he unveiled a line that I would not mind having in my closet!
My favorite outfit (that I would wear in a jiffy) is this super cute cocktail dress that not only wraps and has a beautiful key hole effect, but it also has a cute scarf. This is such a sassy look which makes us all feel that we are red carpet ready. I love the classic blue color and I love the snazzy elements that allow for shimmer. In addition, I love the idea that you can pair this with a cute clutch (I am so about this and feel that it is a fashion essential).
The peek a boo effect of this outfit is so cute! This is perfect to wear along or over denim and leggings. This is perfect for a night out when you are going to a premiere of some sort and you want to show how cool you look. Once again the shimmer is much appreciated!
This outfit makes me think of a disco dancer. I love the shape of this outfit and how it fits the upper body and instead of becoming a dress, it's a pant suit that is not only sexy but extremely classy as well. I love the black, white and grey colors of this piece.
My favorite "night time" look from this collection is this top. I love how it loops around the neck and the pop of color which shows a green portion of this outfit. I have always been a fan of this look and with a little Hollywood Tape, this is an outfit that will have every eye looking at you no matter where you go. Although I have shown a few images here, make sure you visit Coutorture to see more from this show and many others!
I love when you have those amazIng sales during the winter that still allow you to increase your closet without having to sigh as you save these pieces for the summer. Urban Outfitters is currently having a sale on a variety of items which is perfect for you, friends and anyone else. I love this Lux Keyhole Sweater which is a great classic shape while also having a large keyhole. One of my favorite colors is the one shown here in pink which is such a great color. I also love the sleeves (we know how hot it can be in the office. In addition, you can also pair this with a great woven belt which is perfect to sling on your hips. This is perfect to pair with tights and boots with a great heel. If you're at work and need to cover up a bit, you may want to have a cute bandeau top or a nice tank top. Take some time to visit UO for more ideas that will make you and your home look amazing!
Growing up, I was sad when I had to take my favorite summer pieces and fold them away to make way for all that was winter. I felt ludy Rudy from the Cosby show when she really wants to wear this plaid dress, but the weather has turned and her mother refuses to let her wear it. I always liked that episode. But now, have you noticed how people can still by spring/summer pieces year around AND you don't get crazy looks. I also love the fact that when it starts to get seriously cold, the topic of conversation in the office turns to February getaways in the islands! With that said, we need to have constant access to summer wear. If you don't feel like shopping in stores and want something with a little flavor, try these fun designs by Echo Designs that they carry coverups, shorts and much more. This is perfect for laying out, long nights dancing and the moments of purchasing amazing finds in little boutiques. Take a peek at what's here and remember that as you build your closet for this season, you can always purchase for the next or a future location. My favorite piece is the second from the right. I love that this is perfect for South Beach (my favorite place). It can start out as a great late afternoon cocktail dress and lead right into the perfect night for dancing as well. I love the pops of color and the design as well which ensures that you'll have an amazing time no matter when you wear this.
We love hearing from you! Suggestions, ideas and thoughts are always welcome.
