Swoonfest Saturdays: 24 Hours in ~ Georgetown

Roll over the images above to see what 24 Hours in Georgetown was like! This is a new series that I have just launched. As many of you know, I travel quite a bit whether I am doing TV segments or appearances. In many cases, I don't get an awful lot of time to be in a city but I do end up going there quite a bit. So in reality, I have 24 hours to explore an area on my own. I kicked this series off with going to Georgetown as I was going to be in Baltimore the following day to do a segment. I wanted to spend 24 hours in this quaint area of DC to experience shopping, restaurants, bars and to pop in and out! I loved being able to have time in the city and you can see what I was up to! My coverage focuses on Georgetown and specifically M street which was a wealth of treasures (next time I will have to venture out a bit more and also tackle Wisconsin for great finds)! I also loved being hosted thanks to the Tourism Board of DC and the Fairmont Hotel!

Before getting into my stay, I have to say that there were 3 stores I enjoyed popping into that are an absolute must for you when you're in the Georgetown area:

* Wink - this store always has unique of the moment assortments from accessories to apparel.

* Hu's Shoes and Hu's Wear - these are two separate stores but on the same street, I love that in the clothing store there is the cutest dog that was there walking around - obsessed. As a Co-Founder and Creative Director of Shoe Week, there were so many drool worthy brands worth checking out!

* Charm - I love one of a kind items and knowing that what has been selected works together but it is all very unique, you'll find this here within their gifts and accessories!

The Fairmont Hotel is definitelty a luxe hotel that also has a great sense of zen while you're staying there. I truly enjoyed hanging out in the lobby as I held a few meetings and even recouped there. I also loved that there are a number of green initiatives that take place there including having their own bee keeper area upstairs and infusing this within lipbalms, their drinks and foods. The Juniper restaurant makes you feel like you're in the midst of a botanical oasis and with a menu that is locally grown (which is a huge selling point with me) did not disappoint.

I was super impressed by their gym as it was quite a huge space (I mean massive and a number of floors) with their personal gym area as well as Balance Fitness which is not only for hotel guests but also those outside of the hotel who live in the area can have memberships there. This gym is also quite a place for celebs to go to Nicholas Cage worked out there while he was working on the National Treasure movies as well as Arnold Schwarzenegger.

I do come to DC quite a bit now as I do segments in the area so it's important to find a hotel that I can stay in so that I can relax and prep. In addition, the more that I am in this city, I know that I want to learn more about it from shopping, historical locations and more! One of the packages that is taking place at this hotel right now is the Scandal Package (which is definitely a nod to the ABC show and Kerry Washington's character, Olivia Pope! You receive accommodations for two, info on being able to book one or two of the politically scandal focused tours, popcorn and red wine (snack like Olivia), a copy of Good Self, Bad Self by Judy Smith (she inspired the Olivia Pope character by Scandal) and an American breakfast for both of you at Juniper. The tours allow you to explore the juicy history of the Presidency, duels, bigamy, curses and more affairs that have taken place involving the White House each Thursday night at 7pm.

The Concierge will work with you on arranging the tours which are audio based and due to the nature of the topics discussed, I would suggest that it's not child friendly .This offer is available through the end of this year with rates starting at $249 per night and although it's great fun to get friends together to enjoy this with you, this package is not available to group bookings of 10 or more people.

Fashionable Fridays: Events ~ CEW Beauty Awards Luncheon

It's been a long week but I was so pumped to be whisked off to the Waldorf Astoria to attend the cocktail reception and the luncheon for the Cosmetic Executive Women Insiders' Beauty Awards. This year, over 650 products were entered through over 300 beauty brands! From all of this, there were 186 finalists in 30 categories. The result is that a winner in each category is selected and on this day, over 1,000 people were able to watch the awards ceremony that was hosted by Michael Cantone (from Sex in the City). I'm so happy that one of this year's CEW sponsors, Crest, invited me to attend! As a Crest 3D White ambassador it meant a lot and it was so much fun to meet a number of people within the brand as well as other brands! Roll over the images to see brands that I highlighted who won within their categories and who I enjoy using as well (special congrats to Avon for winning as I'm a Brand Ambassador for them as well and loved seeing another fave was included - I also rocked their Extra Lasting Lip Gloss in Constant Coral today)!

Fashionable Fridays: Events ~ Style Tweetup With Linea Pelle

I'm obsessed with Linea Pelle as I have loved them since 2008 when they dressed me for my first coverage of New York Fashion Week! It continued on with just seeing the heritage of this leather brand as it is used in bracelets, belts and handbags! Last year, we did a fun Style Tweetup with them to kick off New York Fashion Week as well as our Shoe Week events and it was so much fun (check out the event from last year). Andrew Cotton, the VP and Creative Director of Linea Pelle tweeted with us in LA as we checked out the line in NYC! Well yesterday, we did it again and this time, Andrew was in NYC and we were able to meet him, see the line and just hang out! Roll over the images above to get tidbits, see video and more to learn about this fun event!

Treasure Tuesdays: Events ~ Style Tweetup Spring Into Fresh

You know that I love creating and hosting Style Tweetup which is a way for me to create intimate events with digital influencers within a theme and to introduce them to brands that fit within it! Last week, it was all about Spring Into Fresh which allowed me to share how we can enjoy the Spring from what we eat/drink and then within our overall lifestyle! My co-hosts for this amazing event included Chobani Soho as well as Palais Des Thes as they are a few doors down from one another in Soho! What a great night that was filled with sampling sweet and savory items which is a different way to look at this Greek Yogurt treat! In addition, we moved onto Palais Des Thes to learn about tea! Sponsors of this event included Cuddly Monkey, Crest, Scope Mouthwash, O'Neill, Dove, The Body Shop, Go Smart Stylus and Sol Republic.

Roll over the above images to find out more about the participating brands and the fabulous ladies who accepted my invite to see what my faves are for this Spring (as well as into this summer).

Trendy Thursdays: Events ~ Clearblue & Melissa Rycroft

Earlier this week I popped into the penthouse at the Rivington Hotel as Dancing With the Star's Melissa Rycroft sat amongst us talking about why she liked Clearblue's New Advanced Ovulation Test as its the only test that helps women get pregnant faster by typically identifying a woman's 4 best days to get pregnant, 2 more days than any other ovulation test, by accurately tracking two key fertility hormones. For those that are in the market, this is definitely something of interest to help them in being able to have the necessary knowledge as well as to plan their families as they choose!

I loved being able to have a moment with Melissa who has been on 2 seasons of Dancing With the Stars, The Bachelor and a number of hosting gigs. The former Dallas Cowboys cheerleader talked with me about her love for rocking accessories (and how much she still feels that her engagement ring is her favorite one to wear - it also paired well with her wedding ring), and the fact that she loves color blocking and keeping it simple and letting these pieces enhance her look! In addition, I love that she knows how to make her look her own with such pieces as her fab necklace from Stella and Dot (her Rebel Pendant came from here and put a nice edge to her classic look).

Trendy Thursdays: Events ~ Dove Truth Files

Many times I'm running to a lot of meetings that involve my jewelry line, upcoming book, walking through selections of my clients, working on all that is Shoe Week for the upcoming NYFW season and making pulls for upcoming appearances! But it's nice to have a night to check out an event of brands that I truly enjoy using. You know a number of brands that I love and Dove happens to be one of them as it always makes my skin look amazing! On Tuesday night, my sister and I were off to learn more about their Truth Files as it's an initiative that they have been focused on for a number of Tuesdays this year! Dove's integration of their brand throughout the night flowed through the fab ice sculpture, a number of the foods had the signature bird as well as fabulous garnish displays.

Samantha Bee @IAmSamBee of The Daily Show chatted with us to talk about all that was important in putting it all out there from her having a fab career, being a mom, her fashion misses and the industry as a whole. Thankfully, I took a moment to share a few snippets of her routine and loved that she had us all laughing at her, with her and about ourselves.

Mingling Mondays: Events ~ Marshalls Spring 13 & Maria Menounos

Some were worried about the winter storm that was coming to NYC but by the time I headed out to check out the Marshall's preview for Spring 13, I realized it was just going to be rainy for the evening. Earlier last week, Marshall's was the sponsor for Oxygen's The Face (and of course, my team, Team Naomi won the challenge). There were a number of presentation with the loft space showcasing how Marshall's is a destination for style with items for working out, being out and about, for your living room, home office and even when you're entertaining. Hosting this fun event was the fabulous Maria Menounos who is a host on Extra, who debuted her movie (later in the week) Serial Buddies and is the author of the Everygirl's Guide to Life. It was great to hear about how she personally enjoys working with the brand as she has been a long standing customer! On her list of musts for this season, (which is great for all of us) is pops of color, pointy toe shoes, items for her pups, pillows and beautifying her office. In addition, Nicole Feliciano of Mom Trends (who I love that in the past few weeks we keep bumping into each other) and I took a pic with this stylish glam girl who rocked an entire look from this store minus her fabulous Christian Louboutins. Much like the previous post, it's definitely fun to cast a wide net in order to shop around for items that are perfect for all of your looks within your lifestyle!

Mingling Mondays: Events ~ TJ Maxx & Spring 13

Even though I can't complain about our winter at the moment, I am definitely looking forward to the Spring! There's something about wearing lighter coats until eventually, you're not wearing a coat at all which puts an extra bounce in your step. The week before last, I headed over to TJ Maxx's Spring preview which showcases what they have in their stores from a number of fun blazers, maxi dresses and more! I have to say that I fell in love with a pink Cynthia Rowley blazer, Alice + Olivia shoes (pictured above) and more! In addition to a number of pieces within their stores being straight from the runways of your favorite brand, I loved that they shared fabulous trends that are dominating the season - many of them being ongoing classes! I loved this Black and White group as I love wearing these hues together - very chic! When putting your look together, it comes from a number of sources that allow your outfits to truly pop.

Mingling Mondays: Events ~ Kenneth Cole & amfAR

The week before last, I headed over to Kenneth Cole's HQ to attend, Conversations with Kenneth Cole in terms of looking at his activisim with his fight against AIDS, his campaigns on this subject and how he engaged this platform within the culture of his company. I had been to this location before as I had enjoyed a fabulous dinner with him and his creative team a few years ago to present the Spring 11 collection. This event was presented by amfAR's generation CURE and The Luxury Marketing Council with a moderated Q&A by Senior Editor of WWD, David Lipke. Kenneth took us on a journey of how he started bringing awareness to HIV/AIDS in the 80's when the subject was not one that was talked about as well as having connotations to the disease. His ability to continue focusing on this subject began rallying those to come together by raising money, bringing celebs together. At that time in the early stages, there were 17 organizations that were involved in this fight. Juxtapose this number with a much increased awareness and research focus. In addition, it seems that in our lifetimes, there will be cures for this disease. There is definitely hope with just days after this event, that it was announced that a a toddler born in Mississippi with HIV was functionally cured!

In addition to this event being about honoring the work that Kenneth Cole has done personally and through his company, it was a great way to see portions of his collection (a number of them were posted on my Instagram account) as well as to mingle with a number of members from The Luxury Marketing Council. Anytime someone uses their success and resources for the global good, this is definitely something worth noting and celebrating. Take some time to check out his iconic ads via The Kenneth Cole Advertising Archive as they will have a permanent home on his site where you can see ads that focus on campaigns and the issues that have come across his path in the nearly 30 years he has been in business!

Fashionable Fridays: Events ~ HSN Oz The Great and Powerful

Earlier this week, I headed over to the offices of HSN to check out a number of items that will be on today and tomorrow in conjunction with Disney's March 8th release of Oz the Great and Powerful! As you know, I'm a huge fan of HSN as I have appeared on the network a number of items on behalf of a brand and they have quite the history of creating special collaborations whether it's Snow White and the Huntsman or True Blood! The current event brings a number of designers (over 50 brands of fashion icons and HSN partners with over 400 products) together from fashion designer Naeem Khan, luxury accessories designer, Carol Brodie and makeup line, Urban Decay! It's amazing to see how designers and brands brought together various inspirations from the movies to the product assortments. You'll find motifs from the movie such as hot air balloons, all the way to items that reflect each of the witches of Oz - Theodora, Evanora and Glinda in the movie. If you're looking to bring this within your home decor, there are a number of items in this category as well. Visit HSN in order to see the times that these items are going on air over the next couple of days and then also go online to shop if you can't wait!

Treasure Tuesdays: Events ~ Unwire Warner's Bra

Earlier this year I made my way downtown to check out a fabulous new innovation in bras. We've all had that bra that we love the shape, the fact that it pushes what needs to be pushed but we don't like when we get poked! Adjusting bras should only be done when you first wear them but when you have an underwire that pokes you, it's unpleasant. Welcome Warner's Bras with their new Unwire Collection which comes in solids and prints. It combines what you love about a push up bra and a t-shirt bra. These bras stand up on their own without a wire, have a smooth finish and yet have the comfort of a soft t-shirt bra that you can twist and not get poked. I have traveled with this bra, warn it during NYFW and more and it's a pleasure to wear as it's a great fit and total comfort no matter what I'm doing! I had such a great time attending the launch of the Warner's Unbelievable Unwire event which also showed the history of the brand starting with its existence in 1874 and a number of innovations that they have brought to the lingerie industry. Locate your comfort by visiting Warner's site.

Treasure Tuesdays: Events ~ Lingerie FW

This past weekend, I had the pleasure of attending the inaugural Lingerie FW which kicked off Fri night with a runway show, contained 2 presentations that were multibranded on Saturday and closed with a runway show by Affinitas Intimates and Parfait on Sat with a closing party at the Metropolitan Pavilion. With a premise on the importance of having a series of shows focused on the lingerie industry, it was a great way to see a number of designers within the underpinnings world. In addition, those who relaxed in the lounge were also able to become familiar with brands that are within the lingerie industry but not the garments themselves - Soak (which is detergent that ensures to keep your clothes fresh without having harmful soaps that can irrate them) displayed their product at the event as well as a number of publications.

Trendy Thursdays ~ Socially Courageous on Valentine's Day

Earlier this afternoon, I headed around the corner to the Shops at Columbus Circle to Keep it Smooth Shaven by Gillette and Scope Mouthwash! Brooklyn Decker and Baltimore Raven Super Bowl winner Ray Rice were on hand to host this event which aimed to break two Guiness World Records - World's Largest Shaving Lesson AND the most kisses between a couple within a minute. They actually had members from the GWR on hand with their blazers and official clipboards!

Ray kicked it off by shaving in front of everyone and we also learned that 85% of women that were polled agree that a clean shaven man is preferred when kissing as opposed to a man with stubble. Over 330 stations were set up where men signed up to shave and of course, when it came time for the kissing moment, it was all about Scope Mouthwash to keep the moment fresh and magical! I had to pass along some interesting notes whether you're going out with your significant other, heading out for a first date or just hanging out with friends - in terms of being socially courageous, 29% of men say that asking for the first date takes the most courage while 32% of women note that saying "I Love You" takes some serious courage! Flirting online with someone that you want to date is easier according to 18% of people that were asked and 34% of people asked consider themselves outgoing in social situations! When you know that your personal grooming essentials are on point - it makes it that much easier and I do suggest that although you gargle to get ready, for those of us that have bags or even in your pocket, get a little travel bottle that you can put your Scope in to ensure that your kiss is magical and fresh!

Trendy Thursdays: Classic NY Nights ~ The Red and The Black

Scenes from The Red and The Black

On Christmas Day, I went to see Les Miserables which I thought was phenomenal. Last night, I had the pleasure of seeing The Red and The Black as well as to peek behind the scenes and to talk with a number of the actors including the leads, Krista Adams Santilli (who plays Louise we have included this stylish leading lady previously on Kitten Lounge here and here) and Lucas Wells (who plays Julien who was also in Spring Awakening). This play is Deloss Brown's adaptation from Stendahl's famed, Le Rouge et Le Noir and represents the first third of the book (during my next travel schedule, I will have this book on hand as I want to know what happens next as this play actually gives a bit of a rundown within the last 2 minutes of the show and it's shocking). As it is post Napoleon and the Revolution, this play is about conflicts and tension when it comes to women, class, age, ambition, politics, religion, nobility, advancement and relationships. Love is a massive theme as it's not just about having it but what happens when it takes place when it shouldn't, when it isn't given back and when it is seen as the ultimate tool to make moves!

The Red and The Black was produced for Capolavori by Steve Acunto, Chairman of his family's company - the Italian Academy Foundation. He was drawn to this play due to its complex themes and how there was a depth of material that went beyond surface emotion. There are a number of lines within the play that stick in your mind and although they are repeated throughout, it takes on new meanings of understanding as the production reveals the intricacies of the characters.

After this show, having the opportunity to mingle with the cast and to share our reactions was an amazing experience. Lucas, who played a calculating/coy Julien, was super sweet in person. Being someone who has taken on a number of roles and also plays pop rock, I loved learning that he knows the importance of taking care of his hair and he is a fan of Bumble and Bumble - he knows how to maintain his curly locks. Krista was stunning in her post play outfit and really reflected on her role and the amount of conflict she has to share within seconds of one another. Watching her go through a range of emotions continues to build this tension even when it seems to be resolved at that particular moment.

The Red and The Black will continue to run through Feb 3rd and readers of Kitten Lounge, there is nothing more Classic NY then heading out to the theater! Tweet @KittenLounge (and make sure to follow) to tell us what Classic NY Nights means to you! We will select a winner at 3pm on Friday, Jan 25th. It's a great production that you and your guest will find yourself thinking about well after it has finished.

Treasure Tuesdays: Events ~ Style Tweetup Fall Holiday Style

Monday night, a fab group of came together as I hosted yet another Style Tweetup with the theme of Fall Holiday Style. Huge thanks to our generous host, Cocktail Bodega whose team was super sweet to have us there to enjoy our event and to sample their food as well! Cocktail Bodega is on the LES and is from the fab team who created the uber popular Sons of Essex! If you're in NYC, you know your Bodega is essential to your day to day! It's where you pick up your necessities, grab a bite a drink and more. Cocktail Bodega takes the fruit smoothies and juices that we love and adds alcohol to them with a fabulous menu from Bravo's Chef Roble - my Cuban Quesadilla sandwich was phenomenal. Perfect bites to enjoy while hanging out with friends on a fall day! With a number of large screen TV's (we loved having the football game on), I can imagine that during the Super Bowl or any game day must be a lot of fun. In addition, they have a club downstairs as well!

As the host of Style Tweetup, I invited a group of friends including Casey Kettleson from Styled On, Samantha Lim and McArthur Joseph of Fashion Indie, Shoshi from Lifestyle Provocateur, Kitty Bradshaw of THE Kitty Bradshaw and my sister Dorian of Big Apple Style. With our theme, I wanted to share goodies that were essential to enjoying the festive holidays starting with Thanksgiving. We will continue to update this post to add in the posts of attendees. I want to thank the following brands that participated and definitely excited those that attended!

I was so pleased to introduce LVX, a nail polish line that is vegan, 5 Free and is not tested on animals! What I love even more about this line that was included in LA Fashion Week recently, is that their nail colors are not only on trend but you can trace them back to hues that rocked runways! I wore Prussian which you can see above which is a fabulous hue (huge thanks to Kitty for snapping a pic of one of the nail polishes she received which is a great neutral tone). Because I'm always out and about or taping segments, makeup is an essential to my routine. Whether it's applying it or keeping my face clean, I loved gifting Swisspers to everyone! We enjoyed the round exfoliates, the square ones which can also work well when removing polish and of course the sponges which are perfect for applying foundation! These are such an essential and you can never have too many. In addition, I loved including Jane Iredale Smooth Affair which is a primer and a brightener which will give you the perfect glow!

When traveling or when at home, candles are an essential! Black Forest soy candles were provided which has a rich scent and is one that is perfect for crisp nights by Archipelago and finally, we were also gifted by Jopen a luxury personal massager line which is made for women with products for men as well. We will continue to infuse these products within future posts over the holiday season as well as including them within our Holiday Gift Guide (Nov 15th) as well as our Last Minute Holiday Gift Guide (Dec 1st).

Treasure Tuesdays ~ John Cabot Univ Opera Gala

Last night, John Cabot University had a phenomenal gala event that we shared with you on yesterday's post. Above, we have Krista Adams Santilli who performed arias throughout the night as well as an image of a few notables including: Thomas Pecora; Claudio Del Vecchio, Honoree; Dr. Franco Pavoncello, President, John Cabot University; Valerie Salembier, Honoree; Steve Acunto, JCU Trustee, Gala Chair. We were so excited to hear that last night was such a success and are pleased that we had the opportunity to find out about Krista's style, how she became connected to this event and what we can see her in next!

How did you become involved with the gala taking place on Mon night and what does it mean to you to be involved?

Steve (Stefano) Acunto, who serves as a Trustee to John Cabot University among his other roles as honorary Vice Consul to Italy, businessman, entrepreneur and patron of the arts, has heard me sing many times and invited me to sing at tonight’s event.

As someone who took time to study abroad (two years in Italy and Germany), I believe whole-heartedly in the value of a study-abroad experience. It is a learning experience unlike any other, so I am honored to be able to support JCU in providing such opportunities to others.

What has been your favorite performance to date?

I’ve been very fortunate in my career to have had the opportunity to perform in some pretty incredible places, throughout the US and on four continents. In the US I’ve sung at The Sears Center Arena, The Kennedy Center, The Reagan National Library, Giants Stadium and Carnegie Hall. I’ve also had the opportunity to sing for international diplomats, royalty and Hollywood celebrities, so I feel tremendously blessed. Two stand-out performances, however, were my solo recital at Carnegie’s Weill Recital Hall in December 2011 and a Verdi’s Rigoletto (for which I sang the role of Gilda) in Cheju-do, South Korea in 2001.

Where can we expect to see you for your next performance?

I maintain a fairly busy schedule of concerts and cabarets in between larger projects, and these are always listed on my website, but my next big project is The Red and the Black, produced by Steve Acunto through his company, Capolavori Productions. The play, based on the Classic novel by Stendhal and written and directed by Deloss Brown, will debut at the Off-Broadway Theatre at St. Clement’s in Manhattan (423 West 46th Street, between 9th and 10th Avenues) from January 17-February 3, 2013. I will be playing the role of Louise, the female lead, opposite Lucas Wells.

Is there a role/performance that you have always wanted to do?

Oh, a girl always has dreams!!! Within the opera world, I’d love to sing Musetta in Boheme, Adina in Elixir, maybe Violetta in Traviata. In the world of Musical Theatre, I dream of playing the great female leads of the lyrical Broadway stage (Eliza Doolittle, Maria in both West Side Story and The Sound of Music, Clara in The Light in the Piazza, any of the three females in Les Miserables, Christine in Phantom, etc.). I also dream of cabaret and concert engagements with large orchestras

What is your favorite song to perform?

Wow. There are so many to choose from. It depends on the venue, the event, the audience, etc. I maintain a varied repertoire, so I have several favorites from many genres. From the operatic repertoire, Musetta’s Waltz from Boheme is always a crowd pleaser and lots of fun to perform. Poor Wand’ring One (The Pirates of Penzance) is also quite a thrill. Throwing a curveball, I also love to perform Don’t Rain on My Parade and Etta James’ At Last! ;)

When you're performing at such events as the one this evening, how do you go about deciding what you will wear?

As in deciding repertoire, the venue, the event, the audience, etc., determine what I wear. Within the Classical music world, there’s a general principal that’s true for concert work: big hall, big dress; little hall, little (i.e., slimmer) dress. For Classical concerts, I would most likely wear a gown. For a cabaret concert or an intimate event like tonight’s gala, a cocktail dress is appropriate. I almost always wear a dress (as opposed to pants), but the formality of the dress changes to suit the event.

Also, the repertoire itself often suggests certain colors. For example, if I were singing a sexy aria (one of Carmen’s or Musetta’s, for example) I might wear red while if I were singing the Queen of the Night aria, I might choose silver or black.

With these intimate performances (when you are allowed to create your desired looks), what are your go to designers for your dress as well as your accessories?

In performance, as well as in my personal style, I tend toward Classic, Old-Hollywood Glamour. I’m drawn to timeless, elegant pieces with a bit of artistic flair, structured pieces in luxurious fabrics which celebrate the feminine silhouette. I tend to pick pieces rather than collections or specific designers, though Valentino is a favorite. The dress I’m wearing this evening is by Jax, and I’ve had a fair amount of success with that line. As for accessories, I look for pieces that compliment the look I’m going for with the dress. In general, I tend to be more conservative with accessories, wearing pieces that have sentimental value to me.

When you are not performing, what accessory is your must when you are out and about?

I have a collection of scarves that I wear in the winter. (We singers tend to be very protective of our throats), and last summer I made a fun, flirty sophisticated hat (a’ al Sofia Vergara) a signature piece. Shoes are always a fun accessory, as is my large Armani costume ring, which I wear almost always.

What designers would be on your wish me list when thinking about your styling options for performances? Hmmm…Valentino, Vera Wang and Marchesa for sure!

Mingling Mondays: FW2012 Trends ~ Krista Adams Santilli

Many of you know that Paul and I go to the opera often! When it comes to having a sophisticated evening, there is nothing like going to the Metropolitan Opera which is not too far from where we live (fab to walk to unless the weather is a bit nasty) and taking in a show! Just last week, we saw The Marriage of Figaro and I have been obsessed since I started going last year! There is something so amazing about dressing up and hearing phenomenal talent, fabulous costumes and sets that transport you to another time and place!

With that said, when I received an invite tonight to go to the John Cabot University Gala tonight at the NY Athletic Club, I was truly bummed that I would be unable to attend due to a conflicting schedule! Tonight, the Chairman and CEO of Brooks Brothers, Claudio Del Vecchio and Town & Country publisher, Valerie Salembier will be honored.
Soprano, Krista Adams will sing arias (and next year she will star in the 2013 production of a new off-Broadway musical, The Red & The Black which is produced by Stefano Acunto) throughout the night. Also in attendance is the Honorable Vice Consul Republic of Italy - Commissioner Acunto who will be the evening's chair.

We will definitely let you know what took place as we recap this event! In addition, we have a fab interview coming up to learn a little more about Krista from her career to her personal as well as how she styles herself for her performances! We love that she has dynamic dresses and we had to learn a little more about how she gets ready!

Treasure Tuesdays: Events ~ Well Accessorized for the Holidays

I love that within this industry there are a number of people who I call my peers and friends who do phenomenal things and/or events that I can support them and learn something new! So when I received an invite to attend fellow Accessories Expert, Pamela Pekerman's annual Well Accessorized for the Holidays event at Petaluma, I knew that I would attend. Pamela always shares fun products within a theme. As she wove the story of how one gets ready for the holidays, it was amazing to be in a room of fabulous personalities such as Samantha Lim (Editor in Chief of FashionIndie.com), Cesar Gaviria (celebrity stylist) and more! Via all the goodies that we received, I fell in love with Lagos (I had enjoyed their jewelry earlier this season at their showroom - their Caviar Macrame bracelets are phenomenal), Archipelago Botanicals (this candle and their new version of potpourri will make your home smell warm, cozy and overall amazing), Ahnu (these rain boots are so chic and I am days away from getting mine in wine) and ClaireBella Designs (fab bags that could be customized to your photo) and so much more! As always what a fab event and I can't wait to continue including brands from this event within future posts.

Swoonfest Saturdays: Events ~ CMJ x MoodSwing360

We had a busy week this week! By mid-week we went back to the roots of Kitten Lounge (our devoted know that Kitten Lounge started as an Internet Radio show fusing music and fashion together back in 2001 in my digital music publicity days before it went to being a site in 2007) by heading to Webster Hall. CMJ (a huge music festival that brings a number of acts together) partnered with MoodSwing360 to bring phenomal ladies who rock together. It's a great chance to see people who are coming up, those who have re-launched and those that are already out there! We were pumped when we were asked to be a sponsor (hello see our logo on the flier) for this event as it was a powerhouse of women! Seeing Nina Sky (who I remember when I was repping music acts that were just starting out) being included as phenom DJ's that definitely bring the concept of music and fashion together. In addition, Lady Starlight (who has been Lady Gaga's DJ on tour and who came out last year to Lady Gaga's launch party for the Gaga Workshop at Barney's as she was in the holiday windows and had a number of items that consumers could purchase) also performed with a number of phenomenal acts - another fab fusion. With such a massive nice of phenomenal women, it's definitely a pleasure to support women who rock!

Swoonfest Saturdays: NYFW SS2013 ~ MM6 Maison Martin Margiela

There is such a theme going on with my favorite key looks! With so many shows and events going on, Kitten Lounge is choosing one look from one show to cover. In my quest to do this, this season it seems like I am loving crisp muted hues and white! I have been a fan of MM6 Maison Martin Margiela as we have covered them on the site many times!

Swoonfest Saturdays: Shoe Week NYFW SS2013 ~ Q by Pasquale

As many of you know, as an Accessories Expert, you'll find me in a number of projects whether it's styling people during Essence Music Festival on behalf of Crest earlier this month, being in a Palladium Jewelry campaign in Cosmopolitan Magazine or being on HSN on behalf of Sebago (I'm back on again Aug 16th at 7am and 3pm) talking footwear style and showcasing my Kimmie Smith x Sebago Spring 12 collection. I love operating within the world of accessories whether I'm a spokesperson, working with lines or educating people. It has taken me around the world and it's a continual process in understanding the vitality of the industry!

I am very excited to be the Co-Founder and Creative Director of Shoe Week which is a shoe focused series of events that will take place during NYFW SS2013 (Sept 6th - Sept 13th). Attendees will enjoy watching a variety of runway shows, presentations, exhibitions, media lounge, Handbag and Shoe Lounge, cocktail events, parties and more that focus on luxury shoes and related accessories as a means to place this category and its designers front and center. Although our events will be throughout the week and at a number of venues, I love that one of our locations will be at the Glass Houses on Sept 9th as we have a number of venues within our schedule. In conjunction with my Co-Founder and CEO, Paul Farkas we were pleased to see this week's Huffington Post Style article and have enjoyed interacting within the industry to put on an amazing experience during Fashion Week as well as to continue with our ongoing mission!

Of course, my Kittens will be looped in so each Saturday leading up to these events, you'll get to know a little more about Shoe Week and our phenomenal partners! I am so thrilled to have Q by Pasquale as one of our participants. Pasquale comes from a shoemaking heritage where his family's craftsmanship with "made to measure" shoes could be seen on Carey Grant, Frank Sinatra and Lucille Ball. Today Pasquale continues this heritage with placing his skills on such stars as Will Smith, Angelina Jolie and Charlize Theron. Having them included within our Shoe Runway show as one of a number premium heels is a great way to extend the vision of Shoe Week!

Next week, find out more about Shoe Week and my Co-Founder, Paul Farkas.

Fashionable Fridays: Events ~ Accesshairize Launches

Last night was such a great night! There's something about great ideas coming together! Although this is not the full recap, I had to share! About a week ago, Celebrity Hair Stylist, Kristan Serafino and Beauty Blogger of Serafino Says and I talked about life, business and everytihng in between. By the end of the conversation, we knew we wanted to create an event that had celebs, beauty and accessories! Within less than a week, Accesshairize was born! None of this would have been possible without our great partner and sponsor, the James Bentley Salon.

We honored Laura Osnes, the 2012 Tony Award Nominee (our fingers are crossed for her on her big night on Sunday at the TONY Awards) and we chatted all things beauty and accessories while hearing her talk about Broadway, her show Bonnie and Clyde as well as her upcoming role in Cinderella! More details will follow but thank you Bartenura for the fabulous Moscato which everyone enjoyed (and HUGE thanks to Peg Samuel of Social Diva and Stiletto Consulting for the connect). Huge shout out to Nina Handbags and Ted Rossi who have always been phenomenal partners of Kitten Lounge and have carried their support into Accesshairize! I'm glad that Kaaral beauty products and Victoria's Secret had fab spritzers AND we all nibbled on Georgetown Cupcakes that were TONY Award themed. Not to mention, that it came just in time to the season opening of Georgetown Cupcake's new series where they take on opening a shop here in NYC (watch it on TLC tonight at 9pm!).

We will have another post updating this event and we appreciate all who came and we're already planning on the next one!

Trendy Thursdays: Event ~ Brasil - A Magical Journey, Only at Macy's

This morning I headed to Macy's - Brasil A Magical Journey. As many of you know, I am a member of Beauty, Brains and Blogs Network which was created by the Publishers of Cosmopolitan Magazine (loved seeing fellow BBB'ers Shyema of Beauty and the Feast as well as Kristan of Serafino Says and Celebrity Hair Stylist) - but we were here to learn more about Macy's Brasil initiative that is available in 300 stores through July 15th as well as the launch of Cosmopolitan For Latinas which has Zoe Saldano on the cover.

Many of the brands were a number of our faves such as Estee Lauder who created a highly pigmented collection that worked well together. I love that you can take the blush and also use it as eyeshadow as well as mixing it with their gloss to create a dynamic pout! Linda Levy, VP of Marketing of Cosmetics and Fragrances also explained that they also brought in a number of designers that were based in Brasil as in terms of tourists, Brazilians constitute a number of their shoppers and being able to have their favorites in stores would be a great relationship as well as introduction to those that are not familiar.

As an Accessories Expert, I encourage you to visit their shop in store as well as online as I am sure the same care in curation within the beauty categories will also be seen in this area as well as apparel! I also love that they had a number of paintings from Brazilian designers available to purchase! If you're in Herald Square, head to the 9th floor! Leaving with a number of fabulous goodies including a vibrant color blocked tote, Estee Lauder, Shiseido, Dior and more - it's a great way to get summer fresh as well as to bring in the essence of Brasil! I will definitely be taking these along with me for my upcoming appearance on HSN next Friday and to have my makeup artist use some of my new finds!

Trendy Thursdays: Event ~ Dr Loretta Brunch

On a rainy afternoon earlier this week, I headed to Milos for a Beauty Brunch that was hosted by my friend and Social Media Director, Michelle Joni Lapidos of Spa Week - also make sure to check out their blog as well. The brunch allowed attendees to sit and chat skincare with Miami Beach based Dermatologist, Dr Loretta who has her own practice, a skincare line in her own name as well as a line that does private label for various spas. For those that follow Kitten Lounge on Facebook, you saw a number of my videos popping up talking about how gum (sugarless free is suggested) is great to keep your neck muscles firm, her skincare's innovation with stem cells that contain lavendar as well as other information regarding African Americans and the types of peels that they should use. The video above shares why we should apply new beauty products to only half of our face as they are done during clinical trials! It's a great way of seeing how well the product works for you and what results you can expect to see - a novel idea and one that we should always remember to do!

In addition to a fabulous lunch, we were able to have many of our skincare issues answered as well as to test a number of products within the Dr Loretta line including Age Change Daily Moisturizer (includes SPF 30+ which is perfect to use day and night), Age Change Body (which is great for all skin types and allows your skin to glow) and Age Change Eye (which lessens dark circles, bags and puffiness and protects the thin skin that is around the eye area). These can be purchased individually OR you can select the Age Change Kit which allows you to receive the Age Change Body for free when you purchase the Age Change Eye as well as the Age Change Face (which is the daily moisturizer).
