Fashionable Fridays ~ Lauren Conrad Goes Beyond the Hills and LA Candy

I was never a Laguna Beach fan EVER but somehow when Lauren moved on to The Hills, I took the ride with her! We can all talk about the scripting but it's a fun show that definitely resonates with a lot of us when it comes to our friends, frenemies and whatever else travels within our circles. Season after season I enjoyed seeing her style and how it evolved. When she launched her first line, I was skeptical - at this point who hasn't tried bringing out a line? But when I covered Fashion Week in Sept 2008, I wore her line exclusively on and off camera! Her line had a great sense of style and fun! There are dresses that I still pack with me when I head to South Beach, Las Vegas, etc. Although I was sad to see her end the line, I knew that she would reintroduce her fashionable sensibilities whether it was a future collaboration or a new direction of the line.

As I read LA Candy this summer on a plane heading to Chicago (yes, I read the entire book on one flight simply because we spent three hours on the ground at JFK), I learned from a friend that she would have an affordable line, LC Lauren Conrad (once again this is yet another direction that many people are turning too) and if the above is any indication, this is yet another great line that has her written all over it. I love great basics that can travel with you and yet you can mix it in with various styles and price points. If you love layering and bringing a sense of California style to wherever you're heading, this line is for you. She definitely gets it and understand how people want to look and this way of dressing is conducive to various body types, heights etc. I am a full believer in a style that comes off as effortless and yet, you look you have had a stylist assist you in striking the right balance. I know this is something that I teach my clients and love seeing it represented here. Available at Kohl's and their .com, you'll have no problem finding items that will find themselves in your shopping bag or cart!

One of the fun portions of Fashion Week involve the people watching whether it's a personality that you know or one that's fun to watch! Every show has someone of interest. My favorites happen to be Janet Jackson and Dylan Lauren (daughter of Ralph and owner of Dylan's Candy Bar). Both were at Ralph Lauren's show. Take some time to check out other notables and although I'm sad to see it go, it was another great Fashion Week!

Michael Kors Look Fashion Week Spring 2010

The other day I had a comment on my site that said I was too young to wear Michael Kors. Now MK is the epitome of classic American pieces that work so well with various generations! Yes I recently turned 30 and have been a long time fan of the accessories and many of his dresses have caught my eye. I love that he brings the Audrey to the everyday which is something that I strive for in my outfits on a daily basis! What do I love about this dress? It's simple and so sexy. The ruching is such a feminine element and the color of the material is so whimsical that you're ready for dinner with a significant other, partying in Vegas, taking on a show - this is a basic that EVERYONE should have in their closet! I love that when it hit the runways, it was accessorized in a translucent way which is one way to go but if I wore this I would love to have sterling silver with pops of whatever gemstone I happened to gravitate towards at the time. With all the ruching, I love the idea of pairing it with a lariat and have a cuff that has a little bit of weight as it adds the slightest edge and of course the earrings pick up elements of whimsy while also adding elements of the gemstones again! I know that this dress is a part of his collection that must join the rest of the items in my ever growing closet!

Tracy Reese Look Fashion Week Spring 2010

I love a peek a boo of pop! One of my favorite elements about natural skins is that the metallic python serves as a great neutral to this gorgeous blue dress that hit the runway yesterday at Tracy Reese's show! The peep toe pump is perfectly sexy and when you want to get away from wearing the typical black, silver, gold shoe - this is a great alternative! Take a bag and match the shoes with the same texture and a slightly different hue! Ted Rossi's pieces are my essential for a day out and an evening that doesn't exactly have an endpoint! Finally, take a cuff with unexpected color and place it on that arm that begs to be noticed! I would place it on the one that is bar just so that it becomes an obvious point for people to stare at! Yes you have added gold and yes you have added a different hue than the dress but I love the natural elements! So far the runways are showing color and fun for spring with an extreme return to the Old Hollywood classics!

Diane Von Furstenberg Look Fashion Week Spring 2010

Usually I like for my accessories to jump out from my "primary" color; however, there are times when I love to have an impactful look. This gorgeous golden Diane Von Furstenberg dress hit the runways yesterday and all I could think of was an extension of golden luxe! To this end, I think minimal accessories are ok and that the gorgeous gold heels which have cute detailing on the back are perfect as a secondary focus. The necklace with its multi media adds various elements of depth (not only is this perfect for a night out but can also kick your jeans and tee look up a few notches) and of course the Swarovski bag is an obvious match to the overall look. If anything, one of the things that DVF knows how to do is to take a great style that works with various body types. The selling points of this dress is the length, the gathering and the asymmetrical qualities that allow the eye to follow the lines of your body. I run around a lot so anytime that I have a second to squeeze out some work, I bring my home office with me whenever and wherever I am! Whether I'm in the midst of Fashion Week, visiting showrooms or traveling I have to make the best use of my time. My headphones are a must, these headphones by Dr Dre himself ensure a quality of sound whether I'm listening to music or listening to something that will assist me with my next meeting. Scripta came out with a case that also doubles as a notebook. It reminds me of the popular Moleskin notepads; however, I love that I can condense some of my bulk (even though I'm all about my Blackberry, I can never go too far without paper) and finally this recording device that attaches to my iPod is genius! I can record artist launches, interviews and more and let it go right into my ipod! Perfect for last minute note taking or a quick refresher before I go into my next meeting! These are my essentials and yet, I can run around the city without lugging a huge case of my necessities and keeping everything in my gorgeous purse!

Christian Siriano Look Fashion Week Spring 2010

If you're a fan of Project Runway, then you know all about Christian Siriano who definitely stole the show and was super talented. In our ongoing sneak peek on the best look that hit the runway, I present one of his stunning pieces that would be perfect to be worn for the Emmys. You could go in so many directions with this dress whether you pair it with citrine, garnet, rubies etc but I am a huge fan of topaz as it's such a smoky subtle color. There is something very victorian about this look. Here we have a gorgeous cuff by Bounkit and teardrop earrings by Allison Shiller. There is such an elegance and the dress is such a standout that it doesn't need to be accessorized too much. I can't wait to see who I will see wearing this!

Since I got back from Vegas (last Sat) I started seeing fall everywhere. The temperatures are significantly cooler, last night I hung out with a friend that talked about movie nights and apple cider and this morning clinched it - I smelled fall! This time last year, I remember covering Fashion Week and still wearing my "best of summer" looks but it seems that this will not be what I'm wearing this season to the shows or Fashion Night Out. Where did the summer go and why am I not sad that it's passed? I'm no fan of winter but the fall with boots and layers that can be done in a sexy way are a huge plus for me! Boyfriend cardigans aren't only comfy but they can defintiely be done in a femme way so I decided to post one of my first "ode to fall" articles. Leggings are a sure way to make sure that you don't look frumpy when you start layering and are a great alternative to wearing skinny jeans (although I will totally rock my Hudson Jeans). This is my favorite look - a femme top, a large ring, layered necklaces and awesome boots! The Marc Jacobs boots have a fun heel if you look carefully and I love that when I'm not feeling like a tall heel, I can still wear this and look completely put together. You'll see a lot of spreads that are within the "beach theme" from now until early September (bday is Sept 12th). This is mainly due to the fact that I will be celebrating my 30th birthday in South Beach - complete with cabana, some fun rooms for my guests at the Loews Hotel and more. Yes I will be missing a few days of South Beach but I couldn't think of a better place to enjoy sun and to get out of the city for awhile. Of course, this made me think of having the perfect outfit for my big night but also earlier in the day as I will be in my bathing suit. Coverups are always essential; however, in SoBe, I think it's an essential, Ceola has an amazing piece that is perfect to wear with heels and to catch the eye of everyone out to get some sun! Of course, under it you should definitely consider a bikini by Cia.Maritima. I love her suits with the pop of color and the great cuts. On my arm, this super cute bag from Tory Burch is a must. I have a beaded bag from here that I adore but I love the elephants on this bag! Finally, I love the Vianca by Oliver People's that brings out your inner star. Mingling Mondays ~ Ben & Jack's

The Friday prior to Fourth of July, I was invited to Ben & Jack's Steak House which just opened on 5th Avenue. I love that Ben and Jack are two brothers that worked various positions within the restaurant industry and were waiters at famed Peter Lugar's. Now I have never been to their uptown location; however, I tend to enjoy going downtown to eat at sister restaurants as they tend to be less corporate which is a positive for me. On this Fri, my Food Editor, Paul Belobritsky, and I settled into the restaurant which was much bigger than I had suspected. I love that the main level looks back at the bar and a cute atrium. If you go upstairs, there is another spacious area where additional people can sit with another bar. But in addition to additional seating, there are rooms that can be rented out. This is perfect during Fashion Week if you want to take out your Creative Designer, PR Teams, etc as they are perfect for groups of 10 - 12. If you're doing a larger event, then maybe you would consider booking the entire upstairs area. Sitting on 5th Ave, this is the perfect area that's close to Madison Park, Flatiron, Chelsea, etc.

The first thing that I have to say was the best part of my experience is the fact that most of the staff was not aware that we were from Kitten Lounge. Typically, when people know I'm coming, we find the staff to be extremely attentive, we're offered items that aren't on the menu etc. We entered the restaurant and we were the recipients of genuine attention. I can't say how nice it is to have various staff attending to your table and never having to look up to get a refill of your water, extra bread and more. I felt that this attention was analogous to being on a cruise ship where people are very attentive without feeling like you're being intruded upon. Whether you're here for a dinner among friends or you're impressing your staff, this is a perfect place to consider.

To start out, we enjoyed the best Great Neck Oysters which were quite large and we had the Crab which was also refreshing. The Great Neck Oysters were my favorite as they didn't have a fishy taste and once again the size was perfect! This is a must to start off the night. For dinner, Paul had the Filet Mignon (which I sampled and loved the taste but I am not a fan of the rare that he requested) which he asked to be rare but felt that it came back Black and Blue. I enjoyed the Sea Bass which I was pleased to find that it didn't have the butter sauce with it as I find that to be a very distracting flavor. The sides are very generous and are family style. We had the creamed spinach - very tasty although not as cheesy as I'm used to and then the Mashed Potatoes which were heaven (as you know I love Mashed Potatoes). For dessert, I enjoyed a very generous portion of Raspberry Sorbet with their very own (made from scratch whipped cream) and Paul had Tiramisu with their whipped cream as well.

With a relaxed atmosphere and with the attentive staff, the dining experience is a must! I couldn't help but think of those in fashion and entertainment who want to have a nice dinner that is equidistant to those that may be coming all over the city in order to have a meal together. Whether it's a post Fashion Week, Coterie, Project or meal prior to a CD launch, Ben & Jack's Steakhouse is the perfect place to hold these functions and more without having that ultra corporate feel while retaining a gorgeous atmosphere. If you're visiting the city, this is a must as well! Fashionable Fridays: A More Confident You

After Fashion Week, my feet always feel like I should give them a rub down for the next week. With all the standing, walking in heels and more you're glad to slip out of them! This time of year makes me think about the fact that I wear heels a lot when it hits the spring and the summer; moreover, open toe shoes become my preferred heel! I have a pair of shoes that I call my chandelier shoes. They wrap around the ankle and have beautiful bronze pieces cascading down my foot and of course, it's an open toe. When I wear them, I always feel that I have to remember to back my feet up so that they don't hang over. It's not an attractive look when you feel like your toes are gripping outside of your foot! Fact, it is hard to get into various Fashion Week shows unless you know someone or do a great song and dance to get in. As we go from season to season, many designers are finding ways to make the runways accessible whether it's running the footage on their site or having Twitter access. Baby Phat is doing just that! For those of you that are on Twitter or have been on the fence about it, if you go to Baby Phat's Twitter name and follow them, you'll know what's going on during the show! I love this as you'll not only hear about what's hitting the runway but you'll know tidbits that some of the people watching the show many not be privy to! Don't say that it's impossible to get in as you just got the best access one could ask for!

Fashion Week started yesterday and with today being Valentine's Day - it's all about the love! Although I love the official collection of designers that show at the tents, I am also a fan of those that are offsite or are apart of additional presentations. As many of you are aware, many designers pulled out of the tents in an effort to have a smaller affair. I love that Halston decided to do an interesting interpretation of the runway showing the full movement of his clothes. I definitely think that innovation is going to be what sets designers apart this season and into the next ones. Oh the weather is really frigid and even the simplest task takes on new meaning when you realize that you have to go outside. The good thing about this weather is that you'll find amazing pieces that will keep you cozy. You know that one of my favorite shows during Fashion Week was the Michael Kors show! I loved sitting 3rd row seeing a crisp show with vibrant colors and if you have read previous posts you know that I am definitely a huge fan of his classic American style. Treasure Tuesdays: Islands of the World Fashion Week

Last week I was in the thick of things at New York Fashion Week and I ended it on my birthday! As exciting as this was, I can only be giddy about my next location to cover Fashion Week. This year, the Bahamas will have the Islands of the World Fashion Week taking place Nov 5th - Nov 8th! It is definitely going to be a lot of fun in presenting designers from various islands all over the world! These designers come from Cuba, Jamaica, Bahamas, Madagascar, Fiji, St Vincent and The Grenadines, Barbados, Trinidad and Tobago, St Lucia, Haiti and British Virgin Islands. All the action will take place in The Bahamas at the British Colonial Hilton and Atlantis.

In addition, the entire team will make its way down with our Food Editor, Paul covering local foods and restaurants and our Development Editor, Arlene, covering hotels and real estate developments. Arlene is a new member added to the team who I am excited to have as apart of Kitten Lounge. With my love for HGTV's House Hunters (International and Domestic), when we have the opportunity to leave the city, she will look at the market from a tourism and a relocating stand point! This is a great time to enjoy beautiful weather and amazing hospitality. We'll give updates as we get closer and of course, I can't wait to give all the details as well.

Tadashi Shoji: Spring 2009 Runway Show

This show was definitely one that I was so excited to attend! I am such a fan of Tadashi's designs so as I sat there, I was so pleased to see Miss USA and Heather Schmid as well. As each design hit the runway, I was so glad that this was one of the shows that I was able to see on my birthday!

Sippin Saturdays: Recouping From Fashion Week

All the planning and tests of endurance and witihin a few days, it's all over! Well the good news is there will be some recapping on Fashion Week next week but we will start to go back to our normal structure. There were a lot of outfits and coverage that made it onto other media outlets which I can't wait to share with you and my lovely sponsors but I don't have the footage and like you, will have to wait for it. When I receive it, I will let you guys know! With that being said I am recovering from Fashion Week and definitely had some parting thoughts and I have a new Fashion Week that I will let you know about shortly that I will be covering which takes place right before the holidays and it's International as well! We are getting the last bolts tied down but I can't wait to share with you.

Fashion Week - I have been to shows before but never seriously covered it in the way that I did this year! It definitely take a lot of planning and there are events that happen prior to, during and after! My big thing was feeling amazing each day and it wouldn't have been possible without starting off the day with my beauty regimine which consisted of Mistral Soap (I used a different one everyday and always smelled amazing - they are a must for any day), Nars Cosmetics (I need to know that I will look amazing and not have to retouch as I was running around all over the place) and Model Co (which kept me fresh with the misting sprays). These were my basic tools that I relied on!

Comfortable but amazing clothing was a must as well - Lauren Conrad's Collection made everyone smile as I went from the tents, suites and off site locations! I can't thank their staff enough and it actually made it live on air in Sacramento since Fox News was at the tents on Friday and a few Japanese magazines (once again, when I get the footage and magazines, I will let you know). Linea Pelle had amazing belts and on the first day and with my outfit from Inhabit, I included it within my look which was amazing. It just goes to show you that you can put your flair in there and still look amazing.

Every now and then I had to take a breather and constantly rework my schedule as I had plans to see one event but would recieve an invitation to another. When covering the shows flexibility is the key! Most important, being able to hang out with people in the industry and to remember that this is an amazing series of days is also key. I have to thank Sam Dark PR and Dashing Diva for not only keeping me amazing in manis and pedis but letting us go back stage to Erin Fetherston and Tony Cohen to see what they do and what it takes to put on such a show. I love you guys and it added so much to this coverage.

Finally, when it was over, yesterday was my birthday and with Lauren Conrad on my back I felt amazing covering the show and then heading out to dinner at Nam with my boyfriend and later to Mocca Lounge. There is nothing like hanging out in Tribeca with the rain, a few friends and your boyfriend. Today, I'm heading out to the beach and working on covering the super secret Fashion Week but it was all worth it and I can't wait to do it all over again in a new location! I have included two images: one is me on the red carpet of the Total Beauty party which kicked off Fashion Week. They had a daily sponsored suite at the Bryant Park Hotel with Chanel, Ted Gibson, Aveda and more. It was nice to meet fellow bloggers and to get away from the madness. You guys throw a great event. The next is last night at Mocca Lounge after a few drinks with Paul our Food Editor and also my boyfriend. Carmen Marc Valvo: Spring 2009 Fashion Show

So Fashion Week is over and yesterday I had an AMAZING birthday and of course there will be recaps and I have another show that I attended last night as well. The Carmen Marc Valvo show was a beautiful show and reminded me of everything that I enjoy about fashion! I love seeing a show where you love every single piece that hits the runway and it's a shame that I can't include every piece but these were my ABSOLUTE faves from this show! I love a great evening gown and the attention to detail that is applied!

Happy Birthday to Me

So today is the last day of Fashion Week and hello, it's my birthday as well! So today I have a fab show that I can't wait to see Tadashi (footage later) and I can't wait to go to dinner later on tonight (Vietnamese) and a few more drinks later (Mocca Lounge)! I woke up this morning and did some prep time with a nice shower with Mistral Soaps (today I tried Lait and loved it) and of course saved my favorite Lauren Conrad dress for today).

So today I turn 29 and this morning I surfed around this morning to see one of my favorite cupcakes - Red Velvet! I love making cupcakes but at the same time, I love to read up on others who do them amazingly well! Of course I stopped in on Paula Dean on Food Network but there are some amazing bloggers with great recipes about this! I am definitely going to reach out to them but My Baking Addiction, Cupcakes Take the Cake and Scrumptious Photography. Congrats and I can't wait to grab a red velvet cupcake later on today - yum!

Cynthia Rowley: Spring 2009 Runway Show

So Sarah Conley and I (Style It Online), made our way from the tents to West Chelsea to see Cynthia Rowley's show! In attendance were members of Gossip Girl. I wasn't able to confirm who was there but I saw the excitement on Sarah's face and knew that it was them. The show took place within a lofted space and although it is not completely visible through this video, I loved seeing the runway having a large clock on it. The hands actually moved throughout the show and all the music had the sound of a ticking clock in it as well! This was definitely an interesting factor. Here is footage of the show!

Michael Kors: Fashion Week Spring 2009 Runway Show

I enjoy watching Project Runway and hearing Michael Kors' thoughts and I have to say that one of my favorite judging moments came when his mom sat next to him adding in her two scents as well! Well it was with much anticipation that I attended Michael Kors' show and I will say that he definitely showed a lot of primary colors from the 60's. I do love the hats and here are some of the best looks from the runway with an image of the man himself!
