Today is going to be a crazy day but in the midst of doing some work online, I had to work with some images that I had taken during a previous trip to South Beach a few years ago. I took amazing colors that I had taken in all of their vibrancy and changed them into Black and White and Sepia images. What an interesting touch it made! Not only will my project (which is soon to be unveiled) look amazing but I can now use this throughout my home to create a nice aged look! The actual cost, nothing but of course you can get interesting picture frames and now you have amazing art within your home! Take some time to look at some of your pictures and see what you can do and how you can take segments which add warmth to your abode.
This morning as I walked out of my boyfriend's balcony on his condo, I realized that although there wasn't a chill in the air, the seasons were changing and with all the rain, there was a alot of fog. Instantly, I began thinking of all the warm elements that I like to infuse within my living spaces! So of course, the best way to begin adding items into the house, is to look online. After a review of some fun pieces from West Elm, this is a great way to generate some ideas for all of your areas in your home.
Today is a busy day! I woke up this morning thinking that my boyfriend and Food Editor of Kitten Lounge, Paul, will be attending a foodie event which will find its way on next Monday's post! Of course I will attend this afternoon after going to a few meetings myself which will include info for Island Fashion Week, my clothing line and the lines of others. Of course, all of this will end with us hanging out at a bar to watch Paul's beloved Jets (and I will enjoy watching Brett as well). So this morning is definitely key as we tie up a lot of loose ends and start projecting the rest of this year (how crazy is it that we are close to the beginning of a new year??). We will be confirming a future weekend trip which will make its way on this site and so much more.
So when it comes to a busy day where I will be running around, I definitely like to have something enjoying - I will start with my flavored Green Tea and maybe have a nibble of Madeleines! I love this soft cookie and I will make these this holiday season. Of course, I had to go online to check out some great recipes and Milk and Cookies Blog has a nice orange infused taste, Yumsugar had the classic and Taste of Home has a nice hazelnut one as well. What a great way to create some great variations off of the classic recipe! I knew these were amazing when I gave some to Paul one afternoon and he declared it his favorite (I couldn't believe he had never had one). Anywho - I can't wait to share a lot of the goodies that are going on on the site and as soon as I can I will let you know. Until then, treat yourself to a Madeleine!
Oh the summer ends, fall is on the way and everyone gets into this massive baking/cooking kick. Somehow we think about having people come over so that everyone can enjoy great friends, food and drinks. Or many people think about baking/cooking in terms of possible gifts. Either way, it is always nice to freshen up what you have and to think about what is essential. Anthropologie is one of my favorite places when you think about items for the home and of course when the holidays come up, you know that you can count on them have to cute items that are perfect for presentations when they're on your table or to create great conversation when people watch you cooking with them. If you're all about color and a sense of the eclectic, this is perfect. Take some time to check out some of my favorites that will boost your kitchen, dining areas and of course - you.
Over the past few Sundays, I have been drooling over the Pottery Barn. They totally get it! I love that right now when it comes to creating a home office whether you work from home, need something for the weekends, etc - that they have great looks for all styles! I love that whether you're classic, minimalist or simply into the mod look, you don't have to have a boring and uninspiring work space! Check out the gallery - I have to say that the Bedford is my favorite as I always need to have tons of organization space!

Yes today is Mon and I am all about Mingling but I wanted to share with you something that will be changing in terms of "Sippin' Saturdays", which has been all about drinks, Snazzy Sundays which tends to focus on home decor and Mingling Mondays. Although from time to time this summer, these days will cover the topics mentioned previously, I will also take these topics to another level by taking in the best of what we can do on our long weekends! In these posts, you'll find great ideas and fun places to go to that are in the area or in our own backyard. I am so exited to share with you and if you have a restaurant, city, boutique, etc - share with me and I will come out to check it out! Consider this segment to be something like the travel channel of sorts and I will be your guide on fun items. In addition, due to the continued condo hunt that my boyfriend and I are on, I will also bring you yummie places to eat in the Hoboken, Jersey City and Williamsburg area as well.
Back to Mingling Mondays, I had the luxury of enjoying my first half day Friday of the season by heading to Bryant Park and watching other people enjoy the day as well. I am really getting into using my Flip and can't wait to start using it for my ultimate projects which will be revealed within the next few days and of course available on my You Tube channel! Until then, enjoy watching footage of people hanging out in the park and can I say that I loved being able to chat with everyone on Twitter as well. If you have an account check me out there and of course you can always catch me on Facebook as well!
Happy Mother's Day! There are so many ways to spend it whether it's at one of your favorite restaurants, going to a broadway show or in the comfort of your own home - you're bound to find a way to make it special. If you do have it at home and you have amazing weather, you'll want to make sure that you have it on your patio, roofdeck or whatever open space is nearby! When I look at these Water Hyacinth Pillows from West Elm, I think of all the ways that you can make your outdoor space cozy! Not only that, but Mother's Day makes me think of summer being around the corner with all of the amazing holidays that emerge. I love the idea of making your outdoor space taking on more of a natural look by making an oasis of sorts right outside. Somehow you can always make the island just at your fingertips, why not start off with making Mother's Day the kickoff to this event! Take some time to check out all of the items that are available from West Elm for everything inside and outside of your home as well!
No matter how much of a backyard, deck, etc that you have - you can have a pop up bar at your disposal thanks to this super cute piece, known as the Sydney Bar, that's available at West Elm. I love that there is space for you to prep, people can have their drinks on another stand and there are various areas to organize your beverages and tools. I love that you're glasses have a home, there are holes for wine and much more. I think that this is such a great thing to have and feel that it could even be something that you could use within your home for those that may be in large cities where we don't even have space to have a backyard. I think that this is so cute and is definitely something that you will enjoy having! Feel free to check this and much more at West Elm!
Since Friday, the city has continued on with Earth Day activities with the Go Green Expo that has taken place in the city. This is a great way to see how you can go green at work, home and anywhere in between. There are seminars, a variety of booths and more. With everyone talking about this concept, this is a great event to learn how to put it in to practice and to see the dedication on various levels where this is being put into operation! I am actually attending today which is the shortest of this week's schedule. I am definitely excited to taste the food, wine and to just learn how I can start applying this into my everyday life and of course to share with others. Visit the site to see what interests you and since it is being held at the Hilton on 53rd and 6th Ave, you'll be near some great areas to have lunch or dinner afterwards.
No matter the season or the style of your apartment/home, having blue in your home is definitely therapeutic and should be used even if it is only a pop of color! These glass vases which are perfect to fill with liquid, flowers, marbles, etc are available in a variety of sizes at Pottery Barn and yes they can be monogrammed as well. This is such a great housewarming gift, graduation or something for you to get yourself whether you line them up in various heights, place it in your kitchen or within your bedroom. You can make your own seascape in whatever way best fits your mood or style. Of course, this will ensure that you'll either visit the store, catalog or site in order to find other items that would work as well! I love summer and a great idea!
First off, Happy March - we are that much deeper into the winter (which hasn't been too bad if you're in the NYC area), we're about to "spring forward" in time and of course the summer is that much closer (ah flip flops and shorts - have we really been parted this long)? So with that in mind, the Kitten Lounge is launching it's month long theme - THINK CITRUS. For the entire month of March, we're carrying you through this season with thoughts of citrus. We will be infusing your homes, wardrobe and palate with all things that are citrus! So if you think you have something that fits within this taste or within the color scheme - you'll find it right here.
Now, on to raising a glass. This recipe, which was found on Cocktail Times, combines my three loves: citrus, lavender and of course martinis. This definitely something that is aromatic to the senses and is also a great way to learn a new drink that is perfect for gatherings at your home or an event that you will be attending.
Citrus Lavender Martini
Ingredients:
- 1 wedge fresh orange
- 2 fresh lavender leaves (or 5 - 6 pieces dried lavender)
- 1 1/2 oz Level vodka
- 1/2 oz Cointreau
- 1/2 oz Sweet & Sour mix
- 1 tbsp honey
- 1 packet of sugar in the raw
Muddle orange wedge and lavender at the base of the shaker (or a
mixer). Add vodka, Cointreau and sweet and sour mix over ice in the
shaker. Shake well and strain the mixture into a chilled martini glass.
(Optional: Rim martini glass with honey and dip rim in sugar)
So I am looking for a little feedback here. The whole reason why I have a laptop is for the ease of use no matter where I am. I love that I can sit in my kitchen, move to the couch and just take it out of my apartment when I am feeling a little cagey so to speak. My mom will come over and complain that I should have a little table or stand for it; however, I feel that it is cozy when it is in my lap! But it did get me to thinking and although they have beautiful cabinets where your laptop can sit, when you have the fabulously sized apartments in the city, who needs extra space taken up with those. At the same time, the little laptop mats seem more annoying and not so secure.
So I let my fingers do the walking and went to Ikea.com (you have to love that this is a space saver AND not going to break the budget) and found this cute little thing - a laptop table known as the DAVID. Now when I am just browsing I may not use this; however, there are many times where I have papers and books that need to be in my lap and having my laptop on something like this wouldn't be such a bad idea! Thoughts and ideas? I love the fact that that the height is adjustable and for all those that have a studio and a home office - you can now use this during those work hours and feel like you have a designated space for work!
My entire department is not decked out in Ikea; however, there are certain elements that I am a fan of. This table top with legs isapart o f the Vika collection. My favorite element of this table top is the clear glass! This so essential for me as a designer when I am tracing. I can place light under the glass and trace my items easily. There is a bit of a ledge across the top that you can use to keep your utensils and other instruments in their place and still accessible! This table is perfect since it can remain flat;moreover, you can also tilt and adjust this as necessary. Growing up, I had a drafting table and this is something that could come in handy for architects and designers alike. The wooden legs are perfect for extra storage as well. What a great way to add this in to your home office!
