Denim is for more than just what you wear when you're out and about, it's a fabrication that's perfect for the home as well. I have some fabulous finds that I know are perfect for your living rooms and kitchen.
SHOE INSPIRATION
When I think of great casual style, I think of denim and today's inspiration comes from a great classic casual brand, Coach which has a heel that you'll love wearing with a number of outfits to add a twist to your Americana looks. Why relegate this fabric to just your outfits, continue to infuse it throughout the home.
GET THE DECOR LOOK
Infuse this hue throughout your space whether it's this color OR other arrays of color. Take some time to roll over the images to find out what I'm loving within this theme.
It's the long Martin Luther King Jr weekend and inaugural weekend as well! For many, there will be no work on Monday so it's a great time to not only think about freedom in general and how far we have come but also getting some work done whether it's setting up your business, prepping for NYFW, catching some shows, and more. I am a multi-tasker in all that I do and I do a lot of work from the comfort of a number of chairs and couches while I have my shows (E!, Bravo, WE, Style and more in the background). It's so important that your workspace whether you work from home or in an office, you need to have a zen space as we work hard but should do so comfortably. As you know, I'm a huge fan of grey and like to bring it into my wardrobe as well in to my decor.
It's all about the chair, I love a great leather one that I can work upright in as well as to curl up in and this one available at Neiman Marcus is perfect. This retailer has a number of other great finds including this Giorgio Armani weekender in embossed croco. I love that it's such a fabulous traveling companion that it's perfect to accessorize your space with this great piece which ensures you're always ready to travel.
Pop in some color with this fun Chaps Seychelles pillow from Kohl's which has a nice worn look to it. Kohl's also has a coffee table from Sonoma Life + Style with storage baskets which is perfect in the home office. For additional storage which also serves as an ottoman, is from Martha Stewart. Continue popping in other grey elements with a cashmere throw from Design Within Reach which has a fab herringbone pattern. Curl up under this lamp from Ylighting with your tablet that is inside this Tod's iPad case. While sitting in my zen space, I enjoy drinking a lot of tea and having it with this Jonathan Adler cup is a perfect way to plug through your day. Finally, it's about the smaller details such as a vase form Venini which is perfect for your arrangements as well as this box which is great for odds and ends (I put my jewelry in them as I think it's essential to have a jewelry box to put your items in in every room) from Ethan Allen.
As I write this, I can't believe that NYFW is a month away and that my co-founder and I will be launching Shoe Week. As you can imagine, I have quite an extensive collection of shoes and I believe that since we spend time curating our collections, we shouldn't have them in our closets. So in our offices, we showcase our fabulous shoes. This bookshelf which looks like a leaning shelving unit is available at Kohl's is the perfect way to show your favorites! Here, I have included Gianmarco Lorenzi, Giuseppe Zanotti, Yves Saint Laurent, Alexandre Birman and Christian Louboutin are fabulous to present - we all have our faves!
Whether you have a separate office or a second room within your home, you can have as many shelving units as you think is necessary to contain your odds and ends as well as your shoes. In addition, make sure you have a cozy chair like this one via Crate & Barrel. Place this fab leather pillow in the arm via Design Within Reach and this cozy floor pillow at CB2. I'm all about fun lighting and love this pendant lamp from Ylighting and when you need to make sure that you're perfectly coifed, this beveled mirror from Horchow.
As you read this, I'm running around with last minute duties before I hop on a flight to head to New Orleans! I will be at the Essence Music Festival as I am a Brand Ambassador for Crest 3D White - which means I will be sharing accessories tips to everyone, styling and showing what's the best way to accessorize in the summer as well as transitioning into fall! Of course a white smile is essential; however, I do have my faves. In addition, I am obsessed with a number of my beauty needs as well!
I love fun scents so I have been trying our Flirt! Cosmetics - Kittenesque which is always a great item to have on hand. I'm all about items that restore my skin as well as making it look amazing so I love that I can use Jane Iredale to scrub my lips with brown sugar to keep them soft and then to put on the fabulous lipstick if needed. You can also add another layer of lipgloss such as this fab shade by Elizabeth Grant. My skin stays amazing with Ole Henriksen's sugar flow face scrub which is soft against the skin. When I catch a little nap, I love these DuWop IGels. I love that I can relax with these on and listen to music while breathing in Mor candle in Sugar Rose Tiger Lily! When you're traveling to do appearances or other work related items, this is a nice way to use special beauty items to help you settle in!
The resort collections have been hitting the runways and we're LOVING Michael Kors' Accessories in Resort 2013! The overall collection is a nod to Opulent Minimalism with vibrant gemtone hues as well as vibrant gold! You know that I believe it's essential to take inspiration from your look to bring it into your home! These clutches are perfect rich jade hues which is perfect for your dinnerwear as seen by this set from Baum and available at Kohl's as well as to enjoy it in the decadence of your outdoor space on this fabulous Palmetto Wicker Sofa at Pottery Barn.
Now that I am settled back in NYC - I can focus on the long weekend! This one is about keeping it easy and making sure that there are plenty of beverages and snacks on hand! As many of you know, I'm a huge fan of wine and the varieties that I love continue to expand! There seems to be a club for everything that you're interested in and wine is no exception! Check out Club W which is a subscription service that allows you to choose how many bottles you want a month to come to your home (3, 6 or 12 bottles a month). You can select or have a sommelier choose them for you. I love the packaging and this is perfect to give as a gift or to ensure that you have wine on hand. I love that there are videos available online to tell you about the wine you're about to pick and/or consume which is super helpful! If you're going to have a wine party at home, make sure you have cute glasses like this set at Kohl's. Wine that needs to be chilled can be in this fabulous bucket which definitely catches your eye and is available at Horchow. For snacks, whether you use them for fries or other nibbles, the Pottery Barn has these cute mini buckets!
I hope everyone had fun partying it up yesterday no matter what you were celebrating! With all of the warm fuzzies that come with so much going on, it's all about looking fabulous for brunch with a large pair of sunglasses. With that said DVF was our inspiration as this fabulous one shoulder dress is the perfect item to wear to be out and about on a Sunday. I'm loving the Moritz pendant lamp at Neiman Marcus which is perfect with your living space. Make the living room even nicer with this fun Mathilde Sofa at Anthropologie which adds a fab bit of character to your room. I'm loving this fabulous stool available at CB2 which adds color, can be spare seating and more. Finally, the canisters that we love to hold bits and baubles are from Kohl's which is another way of bringing in this fab and vibrant hue!
Although I have used beauty and accessories to establish the tone of your decor, there are times when decor inspires decor! I have been obsessed with this Louisa Settee couch available at Anthropologie for weeks. Partly because my sister loves her blues and also because I love a number of the hues that run through this couch that allows you to play with color within your home. This color is fab for your living room as you can include this fab lamp available at Horchow and can either maintain the classic look of your apartment or allows you to pop in a fun modern element for a chic apartment. Set your table in the dining room with the playful colors by adding in napkins in a fab navy available at Kohl's or visit Bloomingdale's fun crisp blue hue by Thomas for Rosenthal in Sunny Day with their fun dinnerware.
When it comes to outfitting your kitchen or bringing in this room into your living room with Le Creuset's teappot which has a fab whistle. Horchow has a fab floral series of pots which can be used for condiments or even flowers. Kosta Boda's vase is also a great way to pop in another element of fun while also adhering to the color scheme. Finally, after a day of updating your decor, head over to Urban Outfitters to deck out your bed in the most comforting of ways.
Seafoam inspirations came from Sue Wong's ostrich feather dress which is elegant and perfect for the upcoming holiday season. The ice nature of this particular hue is perfect for ensuring that you look like a winter princess as you head to events! With that said, I'm loving this hue in latte bowls that are available at Anthropologie and are perfect for chili, icecream and more. In the bedroom, Kohl's continues with this crisp hue in bedding that outfits your room. In your living space, I suggest an ottoman to optimize seating while also including files that are important to you. No need to look at icky file cabinets when you have this item from Ballard Designs. Place containers around your space to collect odds and ends with Alex Marshall Studios. Lighting become fun with these lamps from Macy's and during the holiday season, you can lounge on this fab Hahn Sofa which completes the look.
If Lori Goldstein seems to have slipped the people you should know when you say the name, then you need to Google stat! Lori is an amazing stylist and although she doesn't consider herself a celebrity stylist, sitting in her home Mon night I watched the flat screen display various iconic images that she has had her fingers on. Watching all the images, I knew I was in the presence of greatness and sitting in her home - I could see writing forever and having inspiration. Whether it was the amazing books, art or the ample light - Lori Goldstein's approach to understanding her clients in order to take them to the next level is apparent. This event had three purposes - 1) meet the infamous Lori who Karen Robinovitz has been talking about for awhile and 2) take an outfit that you either don't like or don't know what to do with to be styled by Lori and 3) to get sneek peeks on her new collection for QVC!
I know a lot of stylists and for me, I love meeting those that share my style philosophy. To learn that Lori is from Ohio (love midwest girls we think a lot), that she learned a lot in the trenches of Fred Segal and that she believed that fashion should be comfortable and that at the end of the day it's all play and if you don't like it, take the legs off if it - I knew I was hooked. Super sweet, down to earth and with an earnest desire to listen, Lori talked about her experiences to a room that was captivated. I'm always in awe of the various people that I meet at events and that I have the ability to say that I know them - of course Dina from Eye 4 Style was there, Jeannine from Beauty Sweet Spot and I finally met THE Felicia of Felicia Sullivan.com and there were many others that I was finally able to meet in IRL.
Lori's QVC collection LOGO Instant Chic launches this afternoon from at 3-4pm and in addition to fabulous basics and pops of color, I was pleased to see that she has various accessories as apart of the collection and everything is under $100! I received a super cute dress that will be AMAZING to wear year around whether layered or alone and I loved other tops and cardigans. Stay connected to the line via its LOGO Facebook page as I'm sure there will be updates!
In addition to seeing the collection we each received a one on one styling session with her as she tugged, plucked and in some cases cut and cut our pieces into what we always wanted. Later this week I will include one of the pieces that I received in my goodie bag and show how I styled it back into a look but for now, enjoy fab pics from the party (photos courtesy of Shooting Stars Pro)! My absolute highlight was having the chance to chat with Lori about my favorite topic, accessories and to hear her enthusiasm about my focus and that she too felt that sometimes an accessory made the difference between loving an outfit and simply looking it over without a second thought. My outfit that I brought was ok. I didn't hate it it was from Lauren Conrad's first collection before she went down the Kohl's road and I wore it when I first covered Fashion Week in Sept 08; however, when I saw myself with it on camera, I wasn't in love. By working the belt in a new way and popping in her necklace, I felt transformed.
If I've said it once, this is worth saying again - I loved Lauren Conrad's first collection and still have pieces from it that I enjoy wearing! Then she made her new collection LC Lauren Conrad for Kohl's and I'm still a fan. Her Malibu sense of style at an affordable price point is perfect and you can still pop in amazing accessories. I would wear this to a special brunch or if I'm hitting a launch of something. Who doesn't love the one shoulder look and although it's definitely styled in a way that's easy to wear it (can you believe the dress is $60?), I had to throw in a way to amp it up a bit so that super sweet femme meets just a smidge of femme. I've been drooling over these shoes by Christian Louboutin for awhile and I love the idea of wearing pearls in a new way with this look and capping it all off with these snake earrings. It's subtle and yet it says so much! Take some time to check out more of her collection and of course these fab accessories!
I can’t even believe that it’s a week before Christmas! There’s so much to do for the holiday and when it comes to time, there is even less than that available! So when time gets shorter, you think smarter. Maybe you buy online and save a little sanity as well. I love the fact that we live in a time where designers that we love have so many options when it comes to getting their pieces. Whether you buy the high end or the moderate ones, you still get a great sense of style. Kohl’s carries Vera Wang, LC by Lauren Conrad and Dana Buchman. If you have seen these women’s collections within their other lines, you’ll love getting them here as well. Whether you have a local one nearby or you buy it online, it’s a nice way to gift family and friends! Check out the collections and see what you end up getting to make your holiday shopping easier.
