Roll over the above images to see who hit the red carpet for The Great Gatsby premier which took place here in NYC at Avery Fisher Hall in Lincoln Center. I'll continue to update you on the looks that were worn by the fab attendees and actors in the movie.
My tech is pretty important to me no matter where I go but during NYFW it's such an essential that I double check to make sure that I have everything. Although I'm so fortunate to live a few streets away from Lincoln Center (one of the areas that NYFW takes place), I can't bank on being able to swing by my apartment when I'm off to shows, presentations, gifting suites and so much more. So I ensure that everything is not only fashionable but I can run my office from anywhere and still hang out with my girls as we touch base between sushi and cocktails (love TB'ing with Raijean, my sister, Makeda, Kitty and more).
So to stay fab and connected, I suggest the following! Like many my iPad allows me to do a number of things from staying on schedule, taking notes, taking some pics etc. Keep it fab by including it in my Linea Pelle (love that they are sponsoring me this season and that you will see me rocking their bags, belts and of course my case) Dylan Croco iPad Case. I'm not an orange girl per se but it's Paul's fave color and I love rocking hues that he loves seeing. I love the Go Smart Stylus which allows me to work on my iPad without using my fingers and to accurately selecting what needs to be done. As I never know when I'm traveling, my passport is always on hand and I enclose it in a vibrant holder by Lodis. All of this can fit into my Bottega Veneta bag which is a fab hobo in a caramel color.
My key accessory is a scarf and I love this one by Guess that works well with a number of looks or if there is a slight chill in some of the presentation areas. I am a huge fan of sunglasses and love this retro oversized pair by Miu Miu. Since I love to do touchups or to build upon a look, I always bring a few more cosmetic items than normal and this cosmetic case maintains a great pop of color by Givenchy cosmetic case. Finally, it's all about a fab wallet as you'll be pulling it out a number of times for whatever reason - no need to stop accessorizing, love this one by Alexander McQueen.
UPDATE: We have a special giveaway for our bloggers - Go Smart Stylus wants to give 4 of their fab instruments away! To enter to win, you must leave a comment below that includes your name, your blog and your Twitter handle. 4 winners will be selected to receive the Go Smart Stylus which allows you to navigate your tablet! We will announce a winner on Feb 7th (the first day of NYFW FW2013).
Now admittedly, the American Ballet Theatre Spring Gala took place here in NYC back in May at the Metropolitan Opera House at Lincoln Center and one of my favorite housewives from Bravo's, Real Housewives of Atlanta, Cynthia Bailey looked so timeless when she hit the red carpet this summer! I had a brief moment of meeting her weeks after this event in New Orleans at Essence Music Festival at the My Black is Beautiful Booth where I was a celebrity stylist at this P&G booth on behalf of Crest as I am a Brand Ambassador for Crest 3D White! She was absolutely stunning and has amazing skin! I love the plunging neckline of this color blocked dress that also huge her curved and how she mixes her metals together. As an Accessories Expert, I am always focused on styling the right touch for this look. As a fan of natural pieces, I have fallen in love with Kimberly McDonald and am obsessed with this large geode ring with rose cut diamonds (my signature piece is an oversized large cocktail ring by Ana Reign and when I see people that can carry this look off, I'm always looking for was to add it in) as well as her geode necklace! Usually, I love mixing designers but these pieces are perfect together.
Monday night, the CFDA had their annual awards at Tully Hall at Lincoln Center. Some of my favorite designers and icons hit the red carpets. Stuart Weitzman who definitely ensures that we rock phenomenal shoes had a bit of a casual look meets Hamptons for brunch. Kenneth Cole always looks fab wherever he goes and I'm such a fan of Jason Wu as well. Of course you can't talk about the CFDA without a nod to its CEO, Steven Kolb as well as one of my favorite designers across a number of categories, its President, Diane Von Furstenberg.
This morning marked the 2nd official day of Fashion Week and my 3rd day as I had shows prior to the official season. With a long day of shows and events yesterday as well as Fashion Night Out (loved being able to do Style Sessions at Henri Bendel with fab designer Ted Rossi) - it was a full day. But I popped up to head to Emerson (yet another show produced by People's Revolution and my third day in a row to see Ms Cutrone in action) at Lincoln Center. This season was the first one that they had done in the tents which is always an accomplishment and creates additional buzz. They also had eyewear that was provided by Eyefly. There were a number of cute dresses and separates. As a whole the collection had a fresh look that was dominated by white and black with pops of blues and purples. As always, I have the final walk of all the models and the designer herself that popped out as is custom!
Above is the favorite part of any fashion show, it's when the crew rolls up the plastic on the runway, the whole space goes dark and then the lights that are for the opening of the show light up. There are a few moments of anticipation where you're not quite sure what will come out but you're excited to see the first look. I also love when the lights go off at the end and you're left with a few moments of just enjoying the moment. I love seeing a Tadashi Shoji show. He's all about pops of color for Spring, whimsy and maintaining feminine qualities without taking away elements of sex appeal. He's a designer that can make the size 2, 10 and higher look gorgeous within the same dress and doesn't skimp on style. He truly is about the shape of a woman's body. There were a number of pieces that were simply stunning on this afternoon's Lincoln Center show. Held in the largest space of the Fashion Week complex, the audience practically swayed as they previewed each portion of the collection and were delighted with flowy dresses, florals and just the feeling of pretty that we want when we're out and about at special events without worrying about the fuss.
I start my days during NYFW checking to see how my schedule needs to be updated as there are always invites that come in, media lounges to attend and a few other appearances that I am asked to go to. I spend the days prior to Fashion Week lining up my closet with items that will be perfect for all these events as my days send me running from tents and this season I will be launching my line as well. But no matter what, I have my basics that get me through the 9 days of madness. Some items are my tried and true such as my Cocoa Butter which keeps my skin enriched and soft, I also love my NARS Body Glow which gives a nice hue and my Urban Decay 24/7 as I believe in black eyeliner. Now I have an entire new arsenal series of beauty products that are a must and will carry me through this season.
I love love love M.A.C.'s Semi Precious Mineralize Eyeshadow which is a nice way to add a little something to my eyes, I fell in love with NP Set after listening to Napoleon Perdis show a small group of us his new made for Target collection before I went off to HSN and of course I have been a fan of Coach Poppy Fragrance so now having the rollerball that has their new scent in there as well as the previous one is always nice to refresh me between shows.
When it comes to my accessories, I can never go wrong with any of the Virgins, Saints and Angels rings as it's a great way to add wow factor to my hands (since I gesture a lot and they look amazing in pictures), I'm also all about stilettos and am obsessed with Vince Camuto at the moment especially anything that is studded (doesn't matter if I'm in leggings or if I am in a super cute dress) and finally Rebecca Minkoff's M.A.B. in python is the cutest satchel that can allow me to take all of my goodies along with me and yet remain so stylish!
Lakme Fashion Week began Aug 16th and runs through Aug 16th with a focus on winter/fall and the stage is set at the Grand Hyatt in Mumbai, India. Over the past few weeks we have been looking at a number of Fashion Shows in the past as we are heading closer and closer to NY Fashion Week here in Lincoln Center. With all the fun that happens when we look back to fashion shows past, it's nice to get into the present. In Mumbai, such Indian Designer as Nikhil Thampi, Jatin Varma, Rina Dhaka, Payal Singhal, J J Vallaya - just to name a few! Above are some of my fave looks from the runways and if you have the chance to catch it while you're relaxing, visit the Lakme site and then check out the tweets from @VogueIndia and @LakmeFashionWk to get up to the minute tweets on what's hitting the runway.
That's all folks! The NY Fashion Week F/W Mercedes Benz 2011 shows are officially over today. We will do wrap ups into the weekend but will start the week with fresh content including Coterie coverage, Curve NY Lingerie shows and of course my appearances for my shoe line in my Fall 11 collaboration Kitten Lounge x Sebago which is taking place at Capsule this weekend (available in stores later this summer). Of course, I will let you know about HSN as we will be covering this starting Mon, on the day of my show dates for Sebago and of course wrap it up by the end of the week, But we still have a schedule to stick to so check out what we're up to today and of course see you next Sept for Spring/Summer 2012!
We're in the final stretch of shows! Above you'll see the "calm before the storm"! This is when the fashion show has been set in terms of seats. I love when the room is empty and then you have a sea of people looking for the names and settling in. Yes there are plenty of shows to check in on but we're just days away from the end. It has definitely been an interesting Fashion Week to say the least with a number of events taking place professionally and personally! Yesterday, love definitely reigned and ruled as Kitten Lounge was one of the sponsors of Lookbook's Blogger Break Room (loving those that participated within the styling contest). It was a lot of fun to spend the day talking with friends and fans of the site! We loved seeing everyone enjoying Spa Week's amazing offerings as well as closing the night out with U'Luvka and their fabulous mixologist, Colin. There are a number of people to thank for making it a success whether you were an attendee or a sponsor but thanks to everyone! Today we have our eye on the below!
Today Kitten Lounge attends:
Rachel Roy; Lincoln Center
Chiyuki Asano and Ola Hawatmeh; The New York Salon
It seems like it was only the other day that I was hitting the runways, presentations, after parties and backstages of NY Fashion Week this past Sept. Although the weather is much colder then the previous, I still get the little flutters of seeing the collections, friends and so much more. Today I return to Lincoln Center to enter the chaos and to fall in love all over again. As usual the following day will always showcase the previous day's shows and events. As you read this, I'm heading into my first backstage but I can let you know what you can expect for tomorrow. If you can't wait, follow my tweets @cocoabebe as well as @KittenLounge and of course enjoy searching through a number of tweets that will use the hashtags #nyfw as well as #MediaMavens where all the personalities will be typing away and these are in real time! Each day you can see my 2 key looks and how they would be accessorized. Throughout the next 9 day of shows, you'll also see sponsored tweets as well as posts so keep an eye out for those. I'm looking forward to an amazing season which will be shared via video, posts, images and so much more!
Tonight there are two amazing ways you can be apart of the fun on the first day of Kitten Lounge's coverage on the Fall Winter 2011 NY Fashion Week season in addition to reading our tweets! If you're familiar with Robert Verdi, throughout the year he has a tweet up where bloggers come together and share with you fun products that you'll want to know more about. During Fashion Week he allows bloggers to enjoy his space to refuel as well as to learn about a number of brands.Tune in tonight at 5:30pm to see what he is talking about live via streaming video and find out how you can win what we're definitely loving right now during his Robert Verdi Fashion Week Twitter Party which will also include a number of bloggers including me! Submit your styletips to @RobertVerdi and tag them with #RVFW and you can get in on on the fun Fashion Week Giveaways! You can follow all of our tweets for this event via the hashtag #RVFW as well.
If you've always wanted to see the shows and wondered how you can get access, Richie Rich will be at the Hammerstein Ballroom at the Manhattan Center tonight with his runway presentation "Villionaire by Richie Rich". You can purchase tickets to this event as proceeds will go to DoSomething.org and CookiesForKidsCancer.org. He will kick off his show at 9pm with performances by Harlem James Gang (John Legend is his producer) and DJ Chachi. A number of fun surprises (as always) will be apart of this show but we can say that Johnny Weir and Tinsley Mortimer will be apart of it. It's a great way to see a show and designer that never ceases to pull out all the stops while supporting others! We'll let you know about it tomorrow but, if you're in the area, you can check it out too! Below is a Kitten Lounge recap of the highlights of our first day of events.
As you;'re reading this, I am finalizing and continuing to adjust my Fashion Week calendars! It's tomorrow and if course you know that we will be taking you behind the runways, after parties, the shows themselves as well as the presentations. We'll have video as well as recaps of each show. From there, we will highlight an amazing show that is taking place once New York Fashion Week is over (the launch of my Kitten Lounge x Sebago Fall 11 Collaboration) and then I am off to HSN. But we can't even think of any of this without thinking about what we love so much about the shows at Lincoln Center - the fashion that takes place by those that are attending the events!
I love seeing men, women and even chic kids showcasing their sense of style. Right now I am obsessed with this look. Who doesn't love a simple rolled up woven, a vest, tie and jeans paired with casual shoes? It's such a casual and sexy look that more people should adopt. With all the events that he will be heading off to at this time, having a bag to carry the extra is a must and of course, cap it off with a scarf for the draft at the shows as well as a fun a accessory such as the leather cuff above. We're fans of Rugby for their English, collegiate and yet sophisticated style and we're looking forward to this look which is also perfect for brunch, heading to a meeting and more.
Fashion Week is a lot of fun and one of the best times is when you're in the open areas just hanging out. Now I have met Tia Williams, Beauty Editor at Essence.com a few times. As I had just moved away from the Essie booth, Tia asked to see my strut. Now on this day, I had just left the Tory Burch show I believe and had on one of my fave maxi dresses with my Swarovski Crystal Havaianas! But towards the middle of the video, you'll see me strutting as that's what one does when they're at one of the biggest Fashion Week events of the year!
Yesterday was my first time going to The Box. During NYFW although shows take place at Lincoln Center, there are various areas. If you go to The Stage you know it's a runway show that holds quite a bit of people. The Studio is event larger then The Stage and The Box is well a box. It's a place where the models stand on a platform and you move around the room to see the looks. It's an interesting way of presenting the line. I've loved Rebecca Minkoff's handbags since I can remember!
A few weeks ago, I got the chance to hang out with other bloggers at Rebecca Minkoff's space (gorg) to have tea, tea sandwiches, champagne, cookies etc and of course to hang out with her (she sat at my table and loved how cool she is) and to see the shoes that she was about to launch. Check out who was there by visiting Minkette, which is her blog to see it. It was so much fun and definitely made me excited to see the presentation that you will see in both videos!
