Mingling Mondays: Awards Season 2013 ~ It's Oscar Week

It's Oscar Week! Throughout this week celebs will hit a number of luncheons, gifting lounges and more. The Academy Awards will air at 8pm this Sunday with red carpet coverage starting at 1:30pm! We'll be tweeting talking about who's wearing what and a number of other tidbits. Leading up to it, come here to find out how to get red carpet worthy whether you're attending viewing parties or want to know how to glam it up for a major red carpet event or times when you know that all eyes will be on you in casual settings. This falls into my belief of "nuvo glam" I love how you can mix fabulous items with casual pieces (which Oscar Week is full of a number of activities that are relaxed) or key pieces that work well with glam.

Over the last few days, it's been all about NYFW (continue on with Fashion Week by checking out what's going on in London) and I love that although there are a number of items that aren't available until Fall 2013 - many of the beauty looks can definitely be rocked now! As you know, I covered Houghton Backstage and fell in love with the hair (Relaxed Elegance) that was created for the show by. Once again, I had to share the looks that were created via their Lead Stylist Joseph DiMaggio and the rest of his L'Oreal Professionnel team with its new product, True Grip.

CREATE THE DO

To create this look, DiMaggio poured a liberal amount of the NEW L’Oréal Professionnel True Grip Texturizing Powder ($15; .25 oz.) into a bottle of L’Oréal Professionnel Volume Expand Leave-In Spray ($24.00; 4.3 fl. oz.) for grip, hold and foundation to the style. The mixture was sprayed generously from roots to ends. After drying hair with blow dryer, hair was then split into three sections, two over the ears and one over the nape. The back section was then braided, then twisted and pinned into a low bun.

DiMaggio then pulled one of the remaining side sections towards the neck while loosely covering the ears, wrapping hair under and around the bun. The same step was repeated for the remaining side section. L’Oréal Professionnel Infinium 3 hairspray ($24.00; 11 oz.) was then spritzed all over for hold, and finished-off with L’Oréal Professionnel Perfect Shimmer ($21.00; 5.8 oz.) for shine. “I love the look Joseph created,” said Polk who who has collaborated with the brand’s session styling team for three ready-to-wear seasons. “Joseph and I created a pulled-back look for the show that was clean and simple but had slight notes of the [collection’s] inspiration.”

ACCESSORIZE THE LOOK

As many of you know, I don't wear earrings; however, there are times when they are a must and with this look for your hair, you have to adorn your neck with more than necklace. I have rounded up some fabulous earrings that are perfect from running to lunches and of course the red carpet of the Oscars! Olivia Collings ($10,450; Barneys New York) has fabulous paste earrings that are antiqued and have a great chandelier effect. If you're looking for something a little edgy, including Ileana Makri ($2,409; Matches) white gold and diamond snake earrings. For a pop of regal color, add Irene Neuwirth ($9,260; Barneys New York) with these Boulder Opal Long Earrings. One of my favorites in this spread for a fun gifting lounge, these Small Abalone Shell Earrings in 10kt Gold by Annette Ferdinandsen ($1,230; Ylang 23) are amazing to wear with fun dresses and jeans. For sheer elegance, these diamond earrings from Me & Ro ($900; Barneys New York) are a great way to add a touch of chic to your look. Finally, fabulous bling can be found with Fabrizio Riva ($1,395; Barneys New York) in brown diamonds which are so decadent with these long earrings.

Mingling Mondays: NYFW FW2013 ~ Duro Olowu

This weekend was the perfect one to launch Duro Olowu's JCPenney collection. Sat night I attended their launch party in collaboration with The Daily Front Row (which is celebrating 10 years) where the designer mingled with guests and I got my first sneak peek into a collection that will launch on March 1st which includes clothing, handbags, jewelry, home goods, umbrellas, notebooks and more. This Nigerian designer who is based in London AND who likes to spend a week a month in his Harlem home has a line full of prints and heritage. Those who have loved his collection will enjoy this collab line with JCP! Yesterday, Doru Olowu continued the party right back at the Stone Rose by having a media lounge for the afternoon where we were able to meet with the designer and to chit chat as we took in the depth of the product line! So much fun hanging out with Raijean of Swa-Rai to my left and my sister on my right Dorian! I also loved rocking a jumpsuit from Eva Varro with my fab Avery belt from Linea Pelle!

Trendy Thursdays: 2012 Year in Review ~ Kelly Rowland

We continue with looking at the Year in Review for 2012 and we had to share celebs that we enjoy highlighting. Over the past few months, Team Kitten Lounge has been obsessed with the flawless and effortless look that is Kelly Rowland. Although she caught our eye a decade ago as one of the members of Destiny's Child, we all love that she has not only come into her own when it comes to her music but also her style! With NYE being days away, you can take a nod from her look by having the fabulous diva glam look while also having dynamic makeup that showcases an emphasis on your eyes which are the windows to our souls!

At Glamour's Women of the Year Awards in London this summer (first row upper left hand corner), we loved seeing her sleek hairstyle, a silky black halter gown with a train by British designer, Maria Grachvogel. She simply paired this with silver hoops by Garrard with a fabulous nude lip and kohl rimmed eyes! In addition to rocking the red carpet, she received the TV Personality of The Year Award, for her time on ‘The X Factor’ as a panel member of the London version of the show.

At the American Music Awards, she stunned again on the red carpet in a geometric dress straight from the spring NYFW runway show of Naeem Khan! Once again we love her nude lips and kohl eyeliner - it's a great look and we love the simplistic and carefree look of her hair as well.

With her busy year, Kelly hit Las Vegas and signed her cover which features her on VEGAS Magazine's 9th Anniversary at Boulevard Pool at Cosmopolitan where she's stunning on paper as well as in person with her bodycon dress. Kelly also took a moment to host Grey Goose's launch of their Cherry Noir vodka in this stunning red dress as a number of celebrities and invited guests toasted this event.

As you head out to get together your key look for ending and ringing in the new year Monday night. keeping in mind the importance of a chic look that's comfortable to wear for a few hours where your key facial features are being positively highlighted are an absolute must for a great night!

Wearable Wednesdays: London 2012 Olympics ~ Complements Her

Being a girl from the Midwest, I love sports and so the summer Olympics is definitely something that I am a huge fan of! If you missed our on my of the looks that countries will be wearing during the Opening Ceremony, events and Closing Ceremony - check out WWD (you may need a subscription) to see the spreads that started yesterday and will continue over the next few days! Each day we will focus on the Olympics and I had to start out with Team Jamaica! I had to share Cedella Marley's (daughter of Bob Marley and designer of High Tides looks as she teamed with Puma as well as the Jamaica Olympic Association and created a number of looks. You can definitely see the influence of her father as the opening ceremony has lightweight, short-sleeve button-front shirts in army green with black accents at the shoulders, a black skinny tie and an embroidered Jamaican flag patch on the right breast. This look is known as the “Buffalo Soldier button down” and has the words “Positive Vibrations” stitched inside of the collar, both references to Bob Marley songs. When I was at the preview for Bob Marley's movie here in NYC, Cedella shared these insights with us. Within this look, men have the choice to rock a military-style jacket or a sweater. The uniform’s trousers will be either yellow (with a black tuxedo stripe down the outer leg) or black.

Team Jamaica's ladieshave a single option for the opening ceremony outfit, which consists of a knee-length black-and-yellow allover leaf print skirt, Cedella Marley designed a black, military-influenced jacket with a green contrast stripe running vertically down the button placket, a green belt at the waist and green accents at the cuffs - known as the "Satisfy My Soul" jacket. The looks debuted earlier this month in London where she was quoted as saying to Usain, "... this is the first time Daddy is actually going to the Olympics ... and you’re going to be wearing him on your shoulder.”

Trendy Thursdays ~ Olympic Bound

The world is excited for the Summer Olympic Games! What's not to love about days of a number of events with sports you love and people that you can cheer for whether it's your country or a fave country that you've visited? This year's host city is London and we're loving the pieces that have been made to honor this! Butter London created a bronze, silver and gold nail polish set which allows you to rock medals on your nails. I also love that Jimmy Choo has their infamous acrylic clutch decked out in the Union Jack flag! Of course you can't talk Union Jack clutches without including Alexander McQueen's box clutch as well.

Trendy Thursdays: Events ~ Scent of Departure

Last week, I had the opportunity to pop into Scents of Departure event hosted by Christine of Tineey at Henri Bendel! Immediately, I understood that there were a number of scents that either embodied or were inspired by a city. These airport coded fragrances have amazing descriptions; however, I realized that there was an awesome quiz that I could take that would select the fragrance that was for me! What a great idea as I wasn't sure how I would be able to smell everything. After taking an interesting personality based quiz, I was told that I was London (LHR)! Apparently Miami and LA were close runners ups! With such fragrances as Dubai, Tokyo, NYC and more - you're bound to find whatever place is your home in your heart! Seeing that I run through so many cities and feel that I know a number of airport codes off the top of my head - this is perfect for the jetsetter. I love that they had a great window shopping location but going forward, they will have moved to the fragrance section on the second floor.

Mingling Mondays: SS 2012 Trends ~ Whitney Port

She grew to being one of my favorite characters on The Hills due to her laid back style and great advice, when she moved on to The City it was great seeing her practical nature being put to good use by working in the fashion industry in NYC from Elle to People's Revolution. Seeing that she has a line that is oh so very her - is an amazing accomplishment. I had the pleasure of attending her fashion show which debuted at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week, here in NY this past February and as I sat front row, I was excited to see a number of pieces that I fell in love with!

As a brand ambassador for Crest 3D White, I have been invited to a number of events to learn more about the brand and their current spokesperson, Whitney Port. Last week Whitney and I had a chance to chat about her line, her upcoming accessories venture and her position as a judge on Britain's Next Top Model! First off, she is always on the go and although it was a lot of time that was put in to make the runway show successful, when all was said and done, it was worth every minute to see Whitney Eve come to fruition. In addition, all the accessories are from her upcoming line called, Bits and Bobs! If you love chunky pieces, necklaces, hair accessories, rings and more - this line is something that will definitely take your interest. Like me, she shares a love for layering and accessorizing. For the purpose of today's post, I have shared two fab accessories that Whitney could have paired with this look as well as the accessory that we both agree on - a smile! Like me, she knows that Crest 3D White Whitestrips Intensive Professional Effects allows you to whiten your teeth for 2 hours for the next 5 days in order to have a lasting smile! You just can't look past the amazing results. In fact while she was filming in London, for Britain's Next Top Model as a judge (airs in the UK in June), she was the ultimate ambassador by letting people know about them and passing them out as apparently it wasn't available over there! It kind of sounds like what I do when I'm on HSN and having some downtime, I'm always passing out an extra strip to encourage others to try it as they are shocked that my teeth are so white because of them and not due to a pricey procedure!

Much like you would expect, Whitney is a doll to chat with, believes in the individual and enjoying life in whatever it is that you're doing and of course, when you wrap that all together - that sense of style is always in season and on trend!

Mingling Mondays ~ We Love Royalty

Wow last week was quite a week with the announcement of Prince William's engagement to Kate Middleton! Hearing this long awaited news made me think about being little and seeing when Lady Di had her wedding. I remember being glued to the TV and seeing the longest train that I had ever seen in my entire life. I remember everyone talking about it and back then I was just a little girl in Indiana! Lady Di set trends (even her famed ring was a bit of news when people found out that the $60,000 ring was purchased from a catalog - gasp) and made her style her own and one that others wanted to follow. It is said that Kate Middleton will do the exact same thing as she also has an amazing sense of style!

Above she is seen wearing a gorgeous blue jersey silk dress that compliments her fabulous engagement ring. London based ISSA is known as the Brazilian DVF and with the classic elements of this dress, it is easy to see that comparison. This dress has been one of the lines most loved designs within the ready to wear collection. We love Kate as she never takes a bad picture whether she knows the camera is there or not. In addition, she's absolutely gorgeous and if her mom is any point of reference, you can see that she has amazing classic looks that will keep her in the forefront of our minds in terms of what she's wearing next. Kitten Lounge loves the new addition to the royal family so expect to see more coverage of what she's up to and of course what she will be wearing, what designer she would choose and more as this is the next wedding of the century!

Trendy Thursdays: TRICK AND TREAT

*Editors Note: Throughout this month, each week we will include tidbits or related items from A.W. Gryphon's Blood Moon. Today, we have included the author's tips on how to look amazing, which you can find in her new book. In upcoming weeks, I will share an interview that I had with her and much more. Take some time to read her tips and then visit Blood Moon's site to learn about the first of 3 books within this series!

10 Beautiful Ways Too Celebrate The Witchy Woman In All Of Us This Halloween Season from Blood Moon author A.W. Gryphon

Gorgeous on the inside. Gorgeous on the outside. Make this Halloween yours with a few Seasonal Beauty Tricks and Treats that are all about you.

Did you think Witches were all about the pointy hats and magic spells? We’ll they’re not and traditionally these Pagans have got a lot up their sleeve when it comes to Beauty, Strength, Confidence and much, much more. Try one. Try them all. With many traditions that you will find in the novel Blood Moon and the coming books in her Witches’ Moon Series here are A.W. Gryphon’s Top Ten Steps to Making Halloween Yours.

#1 LET YOUR MAGIC CARPET RIDE: CHARM YOUR BROOM AND CLEAR THE NEGATIVE ENERGY FROM YOUR HOME.

What’s a witch without a broom? We’ve all got one, but there is much more to it than you may realize. In the Pagan tradition, Halloween represents the end of one year and the beginning of another. This is a great time for a clean slate. Start your celebration by sweeping the house in a way you never have before. Sweep one room at a time, always sweeping out, and with each motion focus on moving any negative energy out of that room, while welcoming in new and positive thoughts and desires. By the time you’re finished you won’t only see the results, you’ll feel them.

#2 MASH THE MONSTERS: LET SAGE GUIDE YOU AND YOUR HOME TOWARD A FRESH START.

Drive the ick out of your living space and make a fresh start with the time honored tradition of burning sage. Many cultures and religions practice the clearing of bad energy, unwelcome spirits, negativity others bring into our lives, and past unfavorable thoughts, feelings and incidents, by cleansing their space with sage. Bundled sage can be found in most metaphysical and herb stores. To cleanse your home, simply welcome all positive energy in, let the universe know that negativity is not welcome, and take those thoughts with you as you light the sage and slowly walk through your home as it burns. Walk along each and every wall raising the sage up high and down low, letting the smoke drift into the corners and through each room. End at your front door saying one last good bye to all that is negative and welcoming in any new and existing positive thoughts and energy.

#3 COME ON BABY, LIGHT YOUR OWN FIRE: LET THE POWER OF THE CANDLES GUIDE YOUR WAY.

Candles are peaceful, beautiful, timeless and have been used in celebrations and rituals throughout history. Expand your All Hallows Eve experience by lighting a white candle for peace and spirit, a purple candle to embrace your psychic inner workings, and a red candle for energy, strength, courage and love. Whether you light one of each or fill your home, let the light of the candle bring out your inner beauty and illuminate and enhance the grace of both you and your home.

#4 SEND YOUR WEREWOLVES BACK TO LONDON: RECHARGE WITH A LUXURIOUS CLEANSING BATH.

Be Refreshed. Be Relaxed. Be… Peace. Let yourself soak into the tub for a ritual bath that celebrates you. There are many different kinds of traditional bath ingredients and there is no right or wrong, so choose what’s most attractive to you. My favorite Halloween bath brings peace, sheds negativity and leaves you with smooth and, fresh skin. As you run the water pour in one cup of milk, add a few drops of rose oil then sprinkle lavender over the water and dip in. Not only will this feel like silk on your skin, it smells great and you’ll be glowing after 20 + minutes of this luxurious, “me time” as it sends the bad energy, and dead skin, away and encourages your inner beauty to shine through.

#5 BY THE CALMING OF THIS ONE, SOMETHING WONDERFUL THIS WAY COMES: BE STILL.

Be Still. It sounds simple, and in theory it is, but how often do we really do it? Take a moment. Take an hour… or two. One thing that our Pagan ancestors crafted into their day that would greatly serve us all, is a little alone time. Not time to figure something out, or catch up or whatever it is, time to be still within ourselves. What you do and how you get there is a personal choice. I light candles, put on calming music, and close my eyes and think of the ocean until I’m able to unplug completely. Then I let my mind, body and soul take me away for a little while. It’s wonderful. It’s like a massage for your spirit and trust me you will look and feel gorgeous when you’re done.

PARTY TIME!

If you’re going to jump in full force and follow all 10 tips, and you’re going to have a girlfriend or two… or three… over for your Witchy Wonderful Treats, the best time to have everyone arrive is after you’ve completed your, “me time” in step #5 and you’re ready to start step #6 with the group. If you are having an All Hallows Eve Party that’s all about you and only you, Cheers and keep going!

#6 OFF WITH HER HEAD! WE’LL HOW ABOUT OFF WITH HER DEAD SKIN AND ON WITH THE BEST HALLOWEEN MASK EVER! THE PUMPKIN FACIAL TREATMENT.

Pumpkins and masks. They’re tradition. You’ll want to sign up for this Witch’s Mask and start your Pagan New Year with fresh, clean and radiant skin. This wonderful treat protects, repairs, nourishes and it smells fantastic. All year we are hard on our skin from the inside out. Being kind to your face nourishes the body and the mind. There are hundreds of masks that might fit your Halloween fancy. Pumpkin is high in anti-oxidants and pumpkin facial treatments come in many forms. You can try everything from the Pumpkin Enzyme Peel by Peter Thomas Roth to a homemade fresh pumpkin mask. Recipes can be found at care2.com and many other websites. Either way it’s fun to prepare and the results are wonderful.

#7 HOCUS FOCUS: THE PERSONAL GOALS APPLE GUIDE

When you slice an apple through the middle, you will find the seeds make a five pointed star. In much of Pagan tradition the five pointed star represents the five elements: Water, Air, Fire, Earth and Spirit. In this Halloween tradition, each of the points represent a personal goal to focus on in the year ahead. We slice the apple to determine how many tasks to set our sights on. If you have four seeds, set four personal goals to focus on. If it’s just one, choose one. Write them down and keep them in a place where you will see them every day… and then crunch your teeth over this magical fruit as you move on to your next Halloween treat.

#8 BE-WITCHED AND CELEBRATE!

Raise a glass to those who have touched your life. This is a day to celebrate the living and those we’ve lost with open hearts and settled minds. Halloween, Samhain, All Hallows Eve, The Pagan New Year… we call this night many things, but one shared ancient belief is that this is a night when the layer of the universe between the living and dead is thin, making it a great time to celebrate in honor of, and even with, the spirits of loved ones of the past. Have a party. Make a toast. Pull out your photo albums. Do whatever feels best to share a moment with the spirits that flourish in the living and the dead on this precious night that celebrates us all.

#9 DOUBLE, DOUBLE LET THE GOOD VIBES RUMBLE, FIRE BURN AND HONEY BUBBLE: IT’S TIME FOR HALLOWEEN WISHES

Wishes to go. Wishes to Stay. Write it all down and make a change. It’s time to think about what we want and that includes making room for it by sorting out for what we don’t want. Write down everything you want to bring into your life this year, no matter how big or small. Use a piece of simple paper and a pencil. On another piece of paper write down everything you want to let go of and that you want out of your life. Take time with the lists and remember this is about you personally. After the lists are complete, take a candle, set in it a cauldron (a safe pot or something of the like will do), close your eyes, take a long deep breath, then open your eyes, burn the list of all that you want gone from your life and say goodbye to everything on it. After the burning has come to a safe end clear all of the materials that you used away. Next place your list of positive wishes in a jar. Fill the jar with honey, seal the lid tight and place it on a windowsill that you think is best for the positive flow of energy going in and out of your home. That’s it. The wishes are out there, now all you have to do is remember them, believe and let them come true.

#10 TREAT AND TREAT: LET’S EAT!

What’s a girl to do after a full interior and exterior beauty session? Eat! And make it something delicious and in the spirit of the holiday. A little comfort and warmth to nourish your soul and stomach is the perfect way to wind down an evening. Pumpkins represent the American take on this special night and making apples part of the celebration takes us back to our ancestors. So, how about Pumpkin Bread and Spiced Apple Cider? You can make it from scratch, or buy it at the store. You might even have an old family recipe. However you make it happen, its always a good choice and a perfect end to a perfect evening. Happy Halloween!

Wearable Wednesdays ~ Feed A Nation

Feedfeed There are so many ways that we can assist others that I love sharing certain organizations that I feel is something that you should know about! Lauren Bush is seen here (picture courtesy of AP) posing with the bags that are apart of the Feed 1 Initiative (yes she did in fact design these bags) in London. I love that the bags are reversible so you can take this so many areas without wondering if it might get a little dirty. She aims to raise awareness and funds for the United Nations World Food Programmers. By doing so, funds raised from this go towards children that are hungry and in need of attending school as well. These bags are 100% organic fair trade and they provide lunch for a year for one child! How amazing is this and of course you can learn more by visiting the website and get a bag of your own as well for under $60!

Fashionable Fridays: PFW FW2008 ~ Dec 6th Chanel Show

Chanel1 On Thurs Dec 6th, Chanel had their amazing fashion show. I must say, that when people ask me what some of my favorite designers happen to be, Michael Kors and Chanel are always up there. When it comes to the classics, Chanel is definitely one that I love! This past Thursday this Amy Winehouse style inspired runway show hit the runways with much success! Take a look at the images courtesy of Yahoo and the AP! I love this coat with the embellishment.

Chanel2 I have to say that I definitely love the nod to the Amy Winehouse look. It definitely gave the show an interesting look and who isn't a fan of Karl Lagerfeld's designs anyway? This show had a variety of notables in attendance including Naomi Campbell, Emma Watson and more.

Chanel3 I love this look simply because of the whimsy that this outfit creates! Chanel's 2007/2008 collection took place in London. In addition to the amazing show, guests arrived in cars bearing the name and logo which is an interesting touch as well.
