The past few weeks have allowed me to be inside a lot more than normal. Not only do I get a lot of work done but I am also able to play with a number of items that have come my way! Within the scrub category, I'm a huge fan of Archipelago Sugar Body Scrub for the body in the grapefruit scent! As we're heading into the winter, I love having this great scent as citrus is perfect to get you moving. It's all about keeping your skin soft and refreshed! Many times, people think that since we start wearing a lot of layers, you can leave you can relax your skin routine. As someone who travels a lot, you never know whether you have a segment or an impromptu trip. Continuing to pamper your skin even when it's the "off season" keeps you ready for anything as well as not having to do the massive upkeep when it's "body season". Another scrub that's a must - Fresh Sugar Lip Polish. This is something that you can do when you're staying in and plan on doing a spa day or when you have an extra 20 minutes! When your lips look fabulous, pop on this fun lipgloss from Flirt which comes in a number of hues and you can wear alone or layered with another color.
Taking a shower becomes fun again with Lush and their new product - Fun! Fun can be used to wash your hair, your body in the shower, to make bubbles in the tub AND you can mold it to play with it! What I love most is that there are a number of colors and fragrances and it's easy to break a piece off to use it.
Finally, I love getting my pedicures but there are times when I like to do it at home as it's relaxing or I may not have time to go to my favorite salon. Growing up, I had a footbath that I was in love with and then I moved on to a foot tub. Lately, I have not found a good tub or foot bath but I saw this Heel to Toe Heel To Toe's inflatable pedi bath! At the very least, it's a great novelty!
Generally when we talk about foundation in beauty we're thinking of that creamy base that makes sure our faces have a great base that we can build upon. But today, when I talk about foundation, I'm referring to basic beauty tools that you use before you begin working on the canvas of your face. I'm loving a number of items this week which are perfect to travel with, to be bride ready or to consider adding to your shelves.
After all the times that I have been in the Makeup chair all this time, I must admit that it's all about rocking fab lashes. Thanks to Sally Hansen you can curl to complete sexiness your lashes to ensure that you have the perfect lift to your entire eye. You can also ensure that you have amazing skin by using Lush's face mask which is something I enjoy using. Shiseido has phenom products and I am loving the foundation brush that is the perfect way to apply your bases without having any aggravation on your face since the bristles are very soft and I love that it is on an angle to make sure that you have blended everything in. Caudalie is more than spas around the world but it brings pampering to another level by having a spa in the bag! I'm all about taking steps. Fabulips is a fab four step system that keeps your lips smooth and succulent - it's definitely worth the work and layers that you put on it.
Finally, I love Shobha's cleansing cloths which have rosewater in it as well. It soothes the skin and I love using it to clean and refresh it. You know that I get my eyebrows done here every 2-3 weeks and if my checkins are any indication, clearly you can tell I'm a addicted! Manju, a master threader, is the rockstar that ensures that I look phenom whether I'm running errands OR getting camera ready. With that said, I'm hoping that whether you're in NYC or visiting, that you take a moment to check them out much like the ladies did during my 4th Anniversary party! When you mention my name upon your first visit, you get the opportunity to enjoy a complimentary upgrade by having a senior level artist rock out your brows.
Now we all know that I am a Crest 3D White girl but a fab item to include for your friends who may have left their toothpaste at home (and you're not interested in sharing yours) is Lush's Toothy Tabs that come in a number of flavors. Simply pop one in, crunch them up and let your toothbrush do all of the work. You don't have to be concerned about space, squeezing any tubes or anything along those lines!
We're fans of Elizabeth Grant and are obsessed with this Vitamin C Travel Kit that comes in a sassy zebra bag and has a number of Vitamin C essentials that will keep your skin glowing. In addition, we were at Victoria's Secret Media Lounge during NYFW and have been loving their Gorgeous Collection which definitely brings out your inner bombshell! Combined, these items are phenomenal house guest gifts and perfect to slip in your bag as we begin to enjoy one of my favorite seasons!
Thanks for all the positive vibes guys for those that were wishing me well on my first major magazine shoot! It was so much fun to have my publicist and sister there in attendance, to introduce her to the phenomenal magazine that I am so excited to partner up with over the next year (you'll all find out in two weeks), to meet the brand that had pieces are completely swoon worthy as well as to work with a phenomenal makeup and photography team! It was so much fun and I loved getting up early to spend the morning and early afternoon there! I'll be back there next week to do an amazing video with them and then we wait to see what results when it arrives in the October Issue!
I love whether I'm on a shoot or doing something for HSN as I like seeing what the makeup artists use. It's fun to try something new and to get introduced to new brands that I would have never thought about using. But with all the touchups, lights and layers that I end up wearing I'm always happy to get home and do a major spa session! I talk about these products all the time but it's worth sharing again. When you have those moments that you had to be glammed up for an event, did a shoot, segment or even have been traveling all day these are the most necessary to use! I believe in spaing at home as well as at some of my favorite places! I have been using Clarisonic Mia for over a year but having Clarisonic Plus at my disposal is phenomenal. I love that one head can work for my face, and the other works for my body. With all the bronzer on my arms and chest it's nice to know that it's super clean as well as being taken off in a non abrasive way. I have used the gels that it comes with but you can also use your own faves which is great (you can also use exfoliating gels too). When it comes to my face - I do not travel without Lush's Ocean Salt which smells great and makes your face feel like it has never felt better! Of course I also use Ponds Wipes (thanks Carmindy) to start with taking off the main items on your face. Bliss Triple Oxygen is an amazing mask to use that also feels refreshing and of course, you can seal everything with Dior's Capture Totale Intensive Night Restorative which makes your skin feel like it did when you were a baby!
I've got the Beauty Blues. Not the sad ones - the tranquil ones. Before I enjoy the hectic fun of St Patty's green, I'm relaxing post SXSW by doing a million conference calls and taking some personal time. I love the fact that EOS has just released their hand lotion (if you love their lip balm this is going to be a huge treat) which has all the calming effects that you can look for with oat, aloe, shea butter and Vitamin A and E. Continuing with the theme of rejuvenation after a long day of traveling H2O Sea Pure's Gentle Refining Polish has sea moss, fine grated bamboo extract and more to keep my skin glowing after all the parties and lights that I have been through. Continuing on with a nice bubble bath with Big Blue Bomb at Lush which has nice fizzies when you're getting ready for a fun night/weekend. Of course wrapping it up with a Gel Eye Mask in Blue of course - only when it has been in the freezer for a bit.
Today it's all about including a post that has all items where purchasing them supports the research and awareness of Breast Cancer. In addition, many of the items that are listed are perfect ways to give you the Hollywood Glam that you rock every time you walk out your door. We're loving, It's a Ten who has an extensive line of hair care products bu they also have a leave in product which Christina Applegate is not only endorsing but also supports her foundation as well. I love that it's the perfect shade of girl pink! Of course our friends at Rapid Lash ensure that we have lush lashes by using their serum that creates nourishment. Some say the best stress reliever is doing their nails and if you have a steady hand, then definitely try Sally Beauty's 'I'm a Survivor' shade to help those in the fight! Finally, I'm obsessed with the Clarisonic MIA! I love that it charges magnetically to its dock when then connects to the wall. In 1 min you have a face that looks fab, refreshed and renewed! It's my new friend that has entered into my beauty routine. Check out the items and find out how you can continue to support!
I graduated from Indiana University 8 years ago - it seems like forever ago but it's times when people ask what I do or try to guess my age (31 in 2 weeks) that they ask if I went to school to do what I do now. Although one of my majors was Telecommunications with a focus in New Media (social media), I didn't do anything in fashion but I grew up in this environment and always had my own sense of style. In fact, my way of dressing in college set up the way that I enjoy dressing now - casual, comfortable and well versed pieces that can go from a variety of situations with dynamic accessories. I came into my own sense of style when I was finally able to buy my own clothes, figure out the jeans that worked best for me (I never really wore jeans until then), my hemlines came up etc. I learned to incorporate many of the classic components of my style via my mom, into my look. So what you see today is a mix of what I grew up with (love of plaid, certain preppy elements, blazers, etc), with my love of casual and easy and once I got to NYC - adding the glam factor to create my nuvo glam look. Of course I enjoyed some items of collegiate fashion that sometimes are best left for campus (never wore my jammies to class but I had oversized sweatshirts that I wore during finals).
I am introducing a segment that is incorporated into our Monday posts on Kitten Lounge called, Kitten U. These are styles that are perfect to wear on campus when you're heading to class and yet - you can go out with friends, have items when your parents visit or wherever you happen to go. The beauty of this feature is that we're also going to highlight great style that's around campuses around the country. The fashions that are presented here are also fab for those that are not on college so you can get in on the fun too! For our college girls we're looking forward to seeing what style you and your friends are rocking so feel free to send pics as we will have a fun giveaway just in time for Fashion Week where we will giveaway fun key looks for the fall. The giveaways that are associated with Kitten U are for our campus readers.
Today's look incorporates the sweatshirt updated in a new way! I'm obsessed with this sweatshirt as it has a great fit (happened to see this in Bebe and couldn't believe how cute it was) but on the back it has the slashed effect that is sexy and casual. This can be paired with jeans, leggings, cute shorts etc. It's fun to grab food across the quad and also to go out in as well. Simply get a great charm necklace, cuff and a pair of booties (great year around) and you're ready to go. This is such a great versatile top that you'll gravitate to. if you feel that you're back is too exposed, you can put a tank under it.
To kick off these posts, we have a few fab beauty Care Packages to giveaway (thanks to Dove, Lush and a super cute chemise from Josie by Natori and more). All you need to do is to Like us on Kitten Lounge on Facebook and let us know what year and school you're going to on our Facebook Page!! This kicks off today and will run through labor day weekend! Keep checking our Fan Page as we will let you know about our clothing giveaway that is coming up in a few days! Follow the #KL31BdayStar picks for our essentials for fall and what's on my birthday list!
What a weekend! Sometimes my weekends mean that I have to get some work in and to run some errands which this happened to be one of them. But beyond getting things done, I was able to have some my bestie, sister and her bf come over, headed out to a fun party (kudos to DJ Eloy, my sister's bf who rocked the Shore Club last night), wake up late and then headed into Brooklyn to grab some dim sum with them! You never know where the weekend will take you and with so many people staying over, going out on trips (Kitten Lounge is going to the Hamptons Fourth of July Weekend and then Miami) and more - it's also fun to have some down time!
I'm inspired by Breakfast at Tiffany's for a number of reasons but ask me my favorite scene and it's the one pictured above! Holly Golightly is a party girl and always knows to have a good time but when it comes to shutting the world out and getting Z's - well she still looks fab. I'm a big believer in people looking just as good for bed as they do in the day! So today's spread encourages you to find cute items to sleep in so that when you and your friends wake the next morning to go over the night's activities, you don't find yourself asking yourself what to put on! If you need to shut out the sound as you're hitting the sack at the same time that others would be getting up, these ear plugs are perfect! Also when it's all about pampering yourself after the hectic nature of the weekend, then I suggest you Lush so your tootsies look fab and to also rejuvenate yourself so that you can do it all over again!
Sometimes it's nice to keep it simple and back to basics and that's what Lush is all about! They know about making you look clean, smelling fabulous and ensuring that you don't need to have unnecessary packaging as we throw it away anyway. Make sure that this Father's Day, you keep dad in the loop by giving his a beauty basket. I love these Solid Shampoo Bars that are in a number of scents. Think about not having him worry as he travels that his bag will have liquid all over it since it's in a solid. Of course shaving is super important for every guy, Shave the Planet Gift set is fabulous. Dad will find Bamboo Soap, Shaving Cream made from bamboo, Cosmetic Lad moisturizer and Business Time massage bar - what a fab amount of items and much better than resorting to the tie and other gifts that we have all done at one time or another. Think of dad or your father figure and make sure he stays well groomed!
I don't really wink a lot but I do flutter my eyelashes a lot! Suffice it to say that they are a key component of my facial expressions and who doesn't love a sexy eye when you're out and about? A couple of nights ago, I found myself at one of my favorite lounges at Cibar learning more about RapidLash with fab bloggers in a low light setting! You guys have heard me talk about it and know that I think it's a great way to make your lashes as lush as possible. If you're an avid fan of the Today Show, you know that Kathy Lee Gifford is obsessed with it and her lashes look phenom! So sitting down and having my eyes done and applying this amazing system on my lashes was definitely a means to embrace a daily beauty routine that would make my lashes look even more amazing! But what I really loved finding out was the fact that as much as they want your winks to look phenom whether you're being flirty or simply ok'ing something that is going on, they want to help the world as well.
Wink Week has taken place all this week and some of you may have received a wink from me! You still have time to go on Rapid Lash's Facebook Fan Page and to send virtual winks for each wink you send out, a $1 will be donated to assist in cancer research! So whatever reason you have to rock those lashes, you can now do it with confidence knowing that you're not only taking a series of steps to make them look like Hollywood glam but you're helping those with cancer as well - that's definitely worth a wink or two and clicks with the Facebook App!
Later on this afternoon, a group of my friends will attend Physique 57 to do the Ballerina Bar (the same one that Kelly Ripka does). This is the second event of the week that I have hosted and thanks to Dove, they're making it extra special by providing fun product, goodies and more so that we can have an amazing time! When you go out to the gym, it's a good idea to bring a few essentials with you. Today I have a nice selection of items that are currently on my list! I've always been a fan of Victoria's Secret whether it's apart of my intimate collection or running around. Fold over yoga pants are a must! After the popular FEED event, I've been seen sporting my bag all over the city; however, in addition to the larger FEED 3 bag - there is also FEED 1. Whether you use it as a change purse or a cute cosmetic bag, this is a nice item to bring with you to the gym. You can fill it with your favorite lip balm or scrub from Lush or your Dickinson's towelettes (obsessed with). There will be coverage of our Dove event next week so stay tuned!
