Fashionable Fridays ~ Fitness 360

There are many words/phrases this summer that have been my mantra and I have to say that as I get closer to NYFW as crazy of a time as it is, there is also a lot of reflection there too! Paul always reminds me about what is in my 360 which means that there are a lot of things that we participate in but not all of it is what makes us who we are and what we want to be. When we're looking at our long and term short goals, it's easy to get stuck into the minutia and miss out on what's important. The same can be said for fitness. Over the past month, I've been toning up (which is always good as my goal was not to lose weight per se), making healthier food choices (thanks to the amazing deliveries via Fresh Diet) and also looking at what it all means. I am a person that runs at 500% and even on a bad day, it's abotu 300%. My end result goals are always the same but the things that I must do in the middle have been altered. With many of the placements, opportunities etc that have come my way it makes me re-evaluate things and also see myself in relation to them with fresh eyes.

The same, I think can be said in terms of fitness. I don't believe in obsessing (although I do obsess on accessories) but I feel that we also have to see ourselves as we are which means setting realistic goals in our fitness and when we make positive changes to see ourselves in that new light. With Fashion Week madness and pre-holiday madness upon us, I hear people mention their achievements but not really embrace it - thus the hard work seems a bit lackluster. Today's post is about being healthy mind, body and soul and being able to enjoy your accomplishments in all that you do. Being on HSN this past week for yet another series of visits, I felt in the zone, happy with accomplishments that I had made going into this visit, knowing of others that would be released this week and I loved how I looked. That is the true measure of success - where you feel you sit in the midst of the positive goodies!

Swoonfest Saturdays ~ Lakme Fashion Week 2011

Lakme Fashion Week began Aug 16th and runs through Aug 16th with a focus on winter/fall and the stage is set at the Grand Hyatt in Mumbai, India. Over the past few weeks we have been looking at a number of Fashion Shows in the past as we are heading closer and closer to NY Fashion Week here in Lincoln Center. With all the fun that happens when we look back to fashion shows past, it's nice to get into the present. In Mumbai, such Indian Designer as Nikhil Thampi, Jatin Varma, Rina Dhaka, Payal Singhal, J J Vallaya - just to name a few! Above are some of my fave looks from the runways and if you have the chance to catch it while you're relaxing, visit the Lakme site and then check out the tweets from @VogueIndia and @LakmeFashionWk to get up to the minute tweets on what's hitting the runway.

Mingling Mondays ~ Glam Neutral

You know that this season I'm obsessed with neutrals! It leaves such a refreshing palette and by no means is it boring! Today I'm starting to go into NY Fashion Week mode by securing a number of my looks that I will be wearing throughout the week. There's always a dressy occasion that I must dress for and yet I still love feeling comfy and presenting that effortless sense of style. I'm obsessed over this Alberta Ferretti which has fun hues that pop within this halter dress. To bring out a bit more pop into this look, you know that the accessories are everything! I'm loving both pieces by Jimmy Choo as the clutch with the extra snakeskin detailing and its hardware are perfect - as well as the cosmic heels that I have been drooling over for a period of time! Pair this with a fab topaz ring by Sevan Bicakci who has been another obsession over the summer that I plan on carrying into the fall as well as this hinge cuff by Alexis Bittar! Together, this look is so chic and one that you'll look goddess regal in!

Mingling Mondays ~ Transitionally Obsessed

It's super hot here in NYC today! We have a temperature/humidity that's a combo of 90 degrees with a high index! As much as I'm all about keeping it as skimpy (and classy) as possible, I do begin thinking about my fall transitions! This can definitely be attributed to the fact that this month I am shooting and taping a video for a major Oct issue as well as beginning to think about what I will be wearing during NY Fashion Week this season as well! When it comes to transitioning, I start with my accessories. I am all about neutral palettes regardless of the seasons and am obsessed with tan! The first thing that's an essential is fabulous Christian Louboutin pumps, this fabulous fun bag from Furla which has a pop of collegiate all over it with a fab texture. Of course I have been enjoying not traveling and spending quality time with my boyfriend, planning the next few months and being able to re-connect with friends; however, I know that travel will be back in my future shortly so the scarf by Franco Ferrari is amazing with its vintage sensibilities!

Treasure Tuesdays ~ Statement Piece's in A Flash

As many of you know, I'm involved in various networks and one of them is being a Lucky Style Blogger (we all remember when I got to throw the super fun Lucky Magazine's Pretty Party that I hosted with Dior Beauty and Bloomingdales event in May)! Lucky Magazine reached out to me awhile ago and let me know that they had a challenge that involved me going to Michaels Art and Crafts store (courtesy of their gift card) to make the ultimate jewelry Statement Piece! Now this challenge may have been deemed unfair (but I'm an Accessories Expert so obviously I knew this would be fun) as my most dedicated Kittens know that for years I had my own jewelry line of natural stones under the label Kitten Couture which focused on necklaces. But with my new love of stacked bracelets, it allowed me to have some fun and get back into something that I find to be truly calming in the midst of filming segments, traveling and designing. I knew I should make something fab for Fourth of July to unveil it at a fun penthouse party. Below, you can see me rocking my signature Summer 2011 look kaftan which I simply paired with flip flops and my wrap bracelet. Below, you can find out how I did this and how super easy it is!

Pictured above, my boyfriend Paul, my sister and publicist Dorian and me (I'm rocking my Kaftan [Forever 21], Oversized Sunnies [Marc Jacobs], Necklace [Judith Jack] and Lizbeth [Wrap Bracelet of my design courtesy of Michaels Arts & Crafts] - Additional Accessories detailed below as they are on my other wrist)!

So my readers know I love a boho chic sense of style utilizing neutrals and a pop of color here or there. In addition, I love having lots of charms bracelets to add a little depth, whimsy and personality into the overall look. In addition, it's super important to me that I have natural pieces in my look. So a la my design days in jewelry, I created a piece that incorporated Carnelian which is a gorge orange/peach tone, Turquoise, Citrine, Mother of Pearl, Snail Shell and Agate to create a look that played with texture and can truly be worn with anything. I also opted to select stringing cord in an orange hue as well. What I love about this thread is that it is meant to be used on beading, is durable and after cutting your desired length, I find that it is best to get at least 2 additional strings of the same length so that it is more durable for the beads, especially if you have large ones with smaller ones! Simply put, this style of bracelet can be done with the beads of your choice and can be completed by tying off the ends. Moments before heading out the door you can have a fab new look without worrying about closures which can take a bit more time!

Celeb Stylist, Lori Goldstein, once told me that you definitely should rock bracelets on both sides of your wrists as it makes everything look much better. I took that advice from last September' NY Fashion Week and have definitely put it to good use! On my left hand, I can be found rocking a number of charm bracelets from Good Charma, Swarovski, Alex & Ani and so much more. But in creating this wrap style bracelet, I love that it goes around my wrist three times, wears very lightly but that I added extra string for times I want it tightened and times I don't. I also love that you can let it hang which only enhances the boho look that I was going for!

The result is a fun, easy breezy look that you can opt to wear alone as well as with a number of fun pieces! If you opt to make it longer, you can also do it as a necklace! The big take away for me in this project was that Michaels is everywhere in my hometown of Indianapolis; however, in NYC you have to go to Columbus Ave in the 90's to get your fix - but it's worth it! They've come a long way from being my destination to get puffy paints to make those cute tees. Being someone who has designed jewelry, I have my fave spots in the garment district that are meant for wholesalers; however, I was pleasantly surprised that Michaels had many of the same items within their own selection! I opted to go with a threading version as you don't need all the tools that you would need if you wanted to use flex wire; however, they did have this as well as the cutting tools, nose pliers to squeeze the findings for closures and more! You can definitely do a fun DIY project and with my $50 card, I was able to make a successful piece that will be so cute to continue to wear and plays well with my existing jewelry!

My creation plays well with my go to pieces: Ring [Virgins, Saints & Angels Ring], Silver Beaded Bracelet [Good Charma], Turquoise Bracelet and Silver Bracelets [Alex & Ani], Green and Fuschia Bracelets [Swarovski] and Beaded Bracelet [Nagicia]

Make sure you channel your style and create your own Statement Piece by enjoying this Michaels Coupon offer! They're definitely a great place to assist in making your accessory look your own!

Trendy Thursdays ~ Turkish Fresh & Clean

Back in March, I concluded the fun of coming off a series of long weeks that involved NY Fashion Week in Feb, Capsule (trade show) for the launch of my Kimmie Smith x Sebago Fall 11/Holiday 11 Collection to wholesalers, my first appearances on HSN and SXSW - to relax and go to the historic Russian and Turkish Baths in the Village thanks to Spa Week! Now you can click that link and read about my experiences but the biggest take away was that this was definitely a rustic, no frills but amazing experience when done downtown! I also learned that unlike most spa treatments where you're under towels and can disrobe completely, you may not want to do so when getting a Turkish style treatment and oh yes, there is a lot of water and exfoliating involved!

As many of you know, I am one of the Curator's for Aha Life and with that comes providing decadent finds to you and parties and special events for me. I attended a pre Spa Week Party kick off that took place at the decadent Trump Soho Spa that is located in the hotel. What a fun night of henna tattoos, mini treatments and mingling! Last month, I received an email about a complimentary Turkish Hammam and realizing that I was coming off of yet another serious of chaotic events involving co-hosting a Bloomingdales x Lucky Magazine x Dior Event, going back on HSN for a second time and ending all of it with being in Dominican Republic to create my Kimmie Smith x Sebago Fall 12 line, this would be AMAZING!

With my appointment made as soon as I got back, this past Mon I came (with bikini in hand - they do have disposable panties if you prefer) and enjoyed all that is Trump! The Turkish Hammam room is gorgeous as you lay on a marble table and the entire room is covered in mosaics of various hues. You constantly hear running water as the treatment involves you laying on the heated table, getting washed with very warm water multiple times (note that if you don't want to get your hair completely wet that you should let them know so that they can try to cover it but it will get a bit wet) and an exfoliating mitt is used all over your body (you do get to keep it but note it should only be used once to twice a week as it is very coarse). With so much heat all over you, bring a water bottle - I loved it and you can feel your body reacting to all of the stimulus around you. When you have been cleaned in every way possible your body temperature is brought back down in layers of cooler and finally COLDER water. This treatment is about exfoliating and not so much about massaging and it is one that I would definitely do once a month and know that I will be doing once Fashion Week is over. I think that I would actually do this and then go straight into a massage. There is also a Moroccan version which involves everything I described with a clay/mud. After so much attention to my body, I hung out in their Relaxation Room which allowed me to sample some phenomenal teas, read a magazine and just recover and enjoy the cool air. In addition, I could have went out on the deck and enjoyed sitting out there as well. It was definitely a fab treatment and one that I would suggest to anyone who wants to revitalize the skin and just to ensure that all those layers are no longer there!

Swoonfest Saturdays ~ Eyes on London Fashion Week

Kitten Lounge returns to what we love about it fashion, style, beauty and travel! I mean it's been an intense period as we focused on NY Fashion Week, went straight into Capsule to talk about my Kimmie Smith x Sebago Collaboration for Fall/Resort 2011 and then into my HSN appearance for Sebago for Spring 11! But we're right back to what we all love about popping in for a visit. While I spent this week in HSN land in Florida, London Fashion Week showcased what it's designers had in mind and I become passionate about the Amanda Wakeley Show which took place on the 22nd! As usual, we highlight our two fave looks. I'm loving the fur coat which is beyond amazing and then I love the modern mix of this fab black dress with these cuffs. One can only hope that this is not a stacked cuff but one that is connected on the upper arm - there are so many possibilities.

NY Fashion Week F/W 2011: Mingling Mondays ~ Carmen Marc Valvo

Once again, Carmen Marc Valvo returned to the NASDAQ building to inspire us with more chic looks for the lady who lunches, heads out to the opera and simply wants to look amazing no matter what! Ever since last season, I have become much more of a fan as his pieces are very Jackie O! There are so many details and feminine touches that any piece within this collection would find your wardrobe as the perfect closet to join! Above are favorite images of this show with hair done by Ted Gibson who of course created this whimsical/wind blown look!

NY Fashion Week F/W 2011: Swoonfest Saturdays ~ Josie Natori

You know that I have loved Natori's collection for a number of years and wore it quite a bit during the holiday season. She is all about color, drapery and movement. With that said, her presentation of her Fall collection was not a disappointment by any stretch of the imagination! Above are two of my favorite looks, those who know my fashion loves know that I am a fan of Japanese inspired looks so to see these pieces, you know that I am already thinking of where this would be perfect to wear! With both having vibrant color this is the perfect item to wear for your next gallery opening or to any special occasion.

NY Fashion Week F/W 2011: Swoonfest Saturdays ~ Rebecca Minkoff

So far the show that has given me goosebumps and swoonfests from start to finish would be - Rebecca Minkoff! You know that I am a fan of her accessories (I've been working from my iPad this Fashion Week and of course it is protected by her Python Black case with gold beading and I love my matching coin purse) and when she added apparel and shoes, I was definitely all over her boho chic sensibilities as well! Yesterday I tweeted throughout the show talking about all the looks that I loved with shades of grey, green, black, cream and of course fur and amazing outerwear. Now I have to say that the ones above are my favorite look. Guaranteed, you'll see me in this shearling with fab cigarette pants (which is what she focused on a lot with this collection) and I love that as dark as this dress is, it's see through - phenom!

NY Fashion Week F/W 2011: Fashionable Fridays ~ Robert Verdi Fashion Week Tweet This Party

So for those of you that may not be aware. Robert Verdi's Twitter Parties are insane. He invites a number of influencers who tweet about the products that he talks about within a theme. Last night, myself (@cocoababe), @fashionindie, @alywalansky, @liannefarbes, @thisthatbeauty and much more came together for fabulous treats and of course tweets at Robert Verdi's Luxe Laboratory (I will definitely be here during Fashion Week enjoying the space, recharging and more).

Robert Verdi tweets and the entire party is streamed live so that everyone can get in on the fun! Prior to the event, those in attendance tweet out to their readers so that you can hear about amazing items that you'll want or for the opportunity to win them. Last night, I tweeted about Conair (amazing bundle of goodies from them), Food Parc (loved their dumplings) and more. Watch the video from last night! Make sure to follow @RobertVerdi and to catch up on last night's tweets from a number of us that were there, search for #RVFW

Trendy Thursdays ~ Fashion Week Must Haves

I can't believe that next week is Sept which means that not only is it my birthday month but Fashion Week starts again! It's all about seeing shows, presentations, going backstage to do interviews and the parties! I love running into my friends who are also covering, talking shop and somewhere in between, you find the time to upload content. I also love that I get interviewed about what's going on or someone snaps a pic for whatever publication they are working with so you always have to be ready. I'm all about easy dressing that's super fashionable, no fuss and looks fab with heels. At the same time I know what works in terms of beauty items to keep on site. My secrets are now yours with my musts.

First, I have used Palmer's Cocoa Butter since I was a little girl. I can go through an entire large tub in a very short period of time. I love the smell, the fact that it keeps my skin smooth and when you do have blemishes, it takes them away (on a recent trip back from Miami TSA took my Cocoa Butter (but this is in any drugstore so no worries on not being able to find it) - it's not a liquid sigh at least I had a backup). I don't go anywhere without this and although they have a convenient stick, I love the tub! Another tip: if you use this everyday, God forbid you forget a day, after taking a shower and toweling off, your skin will stay hydrated!

The past few months I have definitely embraced my inner Poppy from rocking the bags, jewelry, travel accessories and soon jacket - such a cute line but now the fragrance! Coach's Poppy scent has been in my bag since I went to their launch event. It's a fun fragrance and it wears well throughout the day. I do believe it is becoming one of my signature scents as it's perfect for summer and going into the fall, I believe it will work here too!

Jane Iredale has a great cosmetic line and although I liked this translucent SPF 30 puff, once again after having lunch with the creator herself, I fell in love with it even more. Through all my press trips this summer, it has served me well. Since I will do a lot of running around in a small amount of days and being in and out of the sun, you still have to take care of your skin to ensure that it is protected!

Avon is a newer product to enter my little group of go to products. I have had the pleasure of attending a few events here and there and I was sent this large tray of glossed from them that had a number of shades in a natural gloss look, high shine and then sparkly. It wasn't until I was flying out to Boston the other week that I lost my Rosebud Salve (gasp). I was running around the house trying to find it and only the fact that I am anal about getting to the airport at a certain time stopped me from going into hysterics about this. I ran into my office and picked the clear Avon gloss and left - it was something at least. I became a fan after the first dab and haven't stopped using it! It glides on and it feels great. On the days that I don't want color, this is perfect - I'll definitely let you know about the other shades.

These are my essentials whether it's for NY Fashion Week, running around, traveling and more!

Mingling Mondays ~ Jumping into Transition

Maybe it's because I am in the midst of traveling or I just realized that there are 20 weeks left of the rest of 2010 (so many things have happened this year and I can't believe that there are seeds planted for 2011 already)! I have spent the past few weeks prepping Kitten Lounge for it's transition into the next season, getting ready for Fashion Week (um here so soon) and the Holiday Season which is huge for us! In addition to that, managing my schedule has been a bit intense and I love that we have new brands that have been introduced to the site whether it's been in our spreads or those who have partnered with us as we have a lot of fun options from broadcasting your brand through our social networks on #KLTweetOut, NY Fashion Week Sponsored Posts, 12 Days of Holiday Dedicated Posts and of course our Holiday Gift Guide which is being sponsored by Natori this year! Those who are securing early are also enjoying a fab promotional rate (for a limited time) which you can too!

But today I'm thinking of the transition into my wardrobe and fun pieces that will make great appearances in the very near future (or as near as the weather will let it). I wanted to let you know about what I have on my radar as I'm feeling like it's very Boho Chic meets Charlie's Angels! I love that it's easy, looks comfortable and it will work with a number of items that I will head off too! I'm such a fan of faux fur and have never really had it in my wardrobe, I adore riding boots and of course you always have to pop in the perfect accessory! Over the next few weeks you'll see more fab looks and of course you can continue to follow me on Twitter but to get Kitten Lounge's tweets you can follow @KittenLounge.
