While we're here battling frosty NYC, many came together in DC to party it up as the President and the First Lady made their rounds to a number of parties! Many wondered what Michelle Obama would wear and we all saw that last night she rocked a Jason Wu dress and as they danced to Al Green's "Let's Stay Together" regardless of party, how could you not enjoy the moment and see that the two of them love one another. As she serenaded the two with the song that we all heard Obama sing on the campaign trail, how could not love, Jennifer Hudson's (we talked about her fab style yesterday while she was in Sundance) glam look? She looked radiant in a simple black stunning dress that definitely showed her in all of her essence!
If you're running around today to get some last minute shopping done whether it's for gifts or to get your home in order for guests, it's not REALLY last minute as this is the day before Christmas Eve and the last Sunday prior to Christmas Day. The Kitten Lounge has been remote working on a number of fab updates that will take affect in the new year but we're definitely in holiday mode! Today, we're inspired by green and how this can be in your home as guests come over! As there is nothing wrong with a little sparkle, we had to share this show stopping dress that's perfect during the holiday season and is very regal by Alice + Olivia. This is perfect whether you're planning for a New Year's Eve party, an innauguration or another special event in your life.
Bring in some pop of this color as well as other hues of green with this vase by Crate and Barrel and an open mouthed container that's colorblocked at Anthropologie to add some decor options into your space. As you may be spending some hours cooking a fabulous meal or having others assist, ensure that you're in the holiday season with Staub's cooking set essentials (available at Williams Sonoma cooking) which is perfect for what you'll be having. Finally, sit down at your dinner table with plates by L'Objet Fortuny. From now until the end of year, we'll bringing some fun lists of things that we love, recapping over the following year and spending a bit of time down memory lane!
Each day it's getting closer and closer to NYE and of course we'll be showcasing some of our favorite looks. Today, it's a nod to menswear as well as black and white which is always chic. We're loving this Elizabeth and James black and white tuxedo which can be paired over these LAgence suede leggings as well! Complete the look with a simple cami and then layer on accessories to finish this look! I'm loving this resin Tory Burch necklace with chain detail as well as (of course) this Balenciaga city bag which includes everything you need for a night out. Finally, these simple Lorenzi heels make this utter perfection!
One of my favorite color combos is charcoal and pink fused together! It's fun to wear if you're off to work, running to meetings or even to have drinks with the girls. I'd say rock this look out with the following items - start off with this fab pink ruffled blouse which is the perfect femme quality to add to this look by Moschino Cheap & Chic. Pair this with fabulous skinny jean leggings by Adriano Goldschmied and add a bit of texture with this charcoal and pink blazer via Paul Smith! Of course it's all about fabulous accessories which will up this look to a whole other level. I'm loving this fabulous ring by Mossa by M.g. which has a bit of a caged look with this pink quartz ring. Continue this look by adding in this large fan charcoal bracelet by Alexis Bittar and add a bit of a rocker edge with Camilla Skovgaard as we're a fan of spikes and love how fabulously pink these heels are.
The Kardashians definitely have a matriarch that keeps everything in check even while she works on her personal empire. Last week, Kris Jenner stepped out to attend Google and The Hollywood Reporter hosted an event right before the White House Correspondants dinner! I love Kris Jenner wearing this long sleeved banded dress in white! It's a sexy look while definitely being age appropriate as she is always on point with her look .We're loving her woven black clutch and may we suggest this one by Bottega Veneta which is oh so chic. I'm drooling over her earrings as they are classy, eye popping and can be noticed wherever you happen to stand! To get a similar look, try Colucci Diamonds availale at one of my favorite sites, Forzieri! Finally, it's always about the shoes, I would have actually opted for this fab mesh pair by Giuseppe Zanotti as I love the fun exchange of textures between mesh, banded and woven! White is so crisp and there is a way to bring it to a feminine as well as an edgy look.
From now through the end of the year we will have a number of Top 5 lists that will appear on the posts on Kitten Lounge. You'll see what we have our eye on, what can be gifted and how you can bring all these things together for your next holiday event, outing, party and so much more. This time of year is all about having a fun time while prepping for the next fun item with all of your friends!
The weather may be up and down wherever you live around the country but once he gets inside, it's time to enjoy drinks and nibbles with friends. Whether you're stepping out of your home office or leaving your office you want to make sure that he looks fab when it comes time to enjoying the season. Start off with a crisp shirt from Paul Smith in one of my fave hues - purple striped wovens. Rock this over a pair of skinny jeans from Edwin and a fab velvet blazer at J Crew!
This is a great base that we can add fun cufflinks from Bottega Veneta which has fab detailing and yet is very casual! A sterling silver Gucci bracelet watch makes sure that he stays on time or can check when you're bound to arrive to the party. For the ultimate comfort, he can slip into Ralph Lauren's Hayward Vachetta Driver. I love the color, the sewn detailing with the penny look across the top. He's definitely ready to go out for the evening and beyond.
Today is the day where I get decked out in my fabulous robe from Daddy's Favorite to attend the Sunday Co-Ed Salon Spa Tea Party that is taking place at Limelight Market Place and within the J Sisters Salon today! If you didn't get your tickets yet, no worries, you can get a ticket at the door - just remember to bring your bathrobe and your slippers (in my case, I will rock my Swarovski Havaianas). We're excited to be media sponsors of this fun event as well as to give you a follow up on the event. It's bound to be a great day as the party starts at 2 and will end at 6pm! There are a number of brands that will be there from yummie tea by Miss Tea, consultations by MySkin, cupcakes from The Butterfly Bakeshop and much more! Follow the fun details of the event by checking out #SpaTeaParty.
There are tons of cute costumes out there but what makes them amazing is when you add a bit of style in them so you don't look like you took everything out of the package and put it on. Pirates are amazing and anytime you sex it up - even better! Make sure that you have a fab ring seeing that it's apart of your pirate's booty. Then rock it out with the smoky eye to add in a sultry look. To complete the look make sure that you're completely tidy by using Bikini Bump Blaster which will ensure that you're smooth which will only make your costume look even more amazing as you dance the night away.
Last week you saw a fun way to have a costume without having to wear a costume (or if you realized you were supposed to be in that look but somehow it escaped your mind). Today it's all about costumes and although we will have a few posts about that this week as many will be going to parties throughout the week, definitely cast your vote on what's cute as I am going to a costume party this Sat and could definitely use your vote to decide what I should wear! This party will have a photographer so I definitely want something super cute. Any of these looks could definitely be a hit seeing that they all look fab with a pair of Jimmy Choos! In addition, these can have a number of fun accessories as well that will take your outfit to another level without diminishing the super wow factor of each look whether you're a Peacock, Swan or Kitten. All of these costumes can be purchased at Trashy.com or you can find these costumes within your local shops (NYC'ers check out Ricky's)!
You know you're pretty major when the whole country gets together and throws a number of parties and why not if you were 230 some years old it's a given! Spending it here in NYC is always fun as I have done it a number of ways although I have never done it from a penthouse on the west side! Now heading over to my friend and Men's Editor, Jacob's apartment there were tons of people making their way to the west side. Many people sat outside earlier in the day to see the infamous Macy's Fireworks! But then once we got to the building we were a short elevator ride away from being up in the air. I actually saw two of the barges that were sailing in that would be apart of the fireworks! Tons of boats floated in the Hudson River and with the heat outside, I was definitely happy that we were in the AC, had perfect views and 5 Napkin Burger which is my oh so new obsession!!
As the night went on, we had more people that stopped by, we enjoyed Caprihina's thanks to the Brazilian girls, amazing rum drinks (thanks Manny) and oh yeah fireworks. My sister literally squealed when the smiley fireworks hit the sky. I felt like we could touch the fireworks and everyone had such a good time.
So with the classic American style party, how did I decide to dress for the occasion? If you've been reading the site since late spring you know I have been obsessing over jean shorts - don't ask me why as I haven't worn them since I was a kid but I opted for them (it was super hot and I did a lot of walking yesterday) and went simple with one of my favorite tanks and indulged in my accessories. The first (which is slightly hard to see) is in addition to my Pade Vavra necklace, I am rocking a longer one from Chairman of the Board ! My friend and the owner Scott, goes to various antique markets to find tokens from childhood games and to make a necklace out of them! I have the Scrabble letter 'K' which instantly made the girls at the party get excited as one of them told me that her best friend is getting the tattoo of the letter 'Z' complete with the point value of 10. It's so cute and while I'm out and about, I'm sure you'll see me in the piece. Earlier last week, I talked about boat shoes from Sebago. Once again, I was a kid the last time I wore these shoes but I was so excited to create a look where I would wear them and they're super comfy - Jacob can't wait until his pair arrives as he also purchased a pair being the trendy guy he is! I would expect to see me in these as well and will be taking them with me on some upcoming trips. Who doesn't love great American classics especially when you're celebrating her birthday?
The weather is trying to pull out its last stops. It knows that it's summer soon and that it won't have many days left to play it's terrible chilly tricks. Instead of thinking about the nippy weather, think about the fun outfits that we'll be able to wear all the time, the places that we'll be able to go to and how beachwear will be acceptable everywhere. I'm obsessed with the Modern Mexican Dress by APART and of course if you use the promo code KittenMay you will receive 10% off of the purchases. This dress screams Hamptons, South Beach, Malibu or your party that you will be hosting soon. Whether you're going in for a dip or not, it's always good to have a bikini nearby. I love turquoise so I wanted to continue the eye popping theme with this color and of course pair it with fab accessories that will get you through the summer.
Speaking of parties, Kitten Lounge and APART will co-host a night of drinks, food and shopping discounts so that you get to know more about this brand that is available online - join us at the Splashion Soiree here in NYC. Hang out with us in the showroom, get styling tips from me and of course find amazing accessories by Cynthia Rybakoff as she will be there as well showing her new collection. Bring your friends but you can only attend if you RSVP with Rose@ApartStyle.com!
The Spring is always about refocusing and is a transition between a chilly past and a warmer future. I find that this time of year is the most inspirational. Keeping with those thoughts, it's essential to think about the fact that our wardrobes are instrumental in these changes. I'm already in a beach, garden parties, etc state of mind. With that said, you guys know that The Highline opened in NYC to allow people to enjoy even more of what NYC has to offer! I love this new fragrance from Bond No 9 which pays homage to this area and is known as the world's first perfume that is derived from a railroad! Thinking of this scent made me think of the power of red and how liberating and gorgeous that it can be (this can be because it's not a color I wear a lot but one that I do want to embrace). This gorgeous dress is more than a halter but I love that it's bold and subtle. Somehow, only Cavalli is able to create that mix and to make it seem so natural. This dress needs very little assistance but I threw in these fab accessories to round out the entire look! Think about your closet whether a scent or an accessory inspires you. Either way, ensure that you're ready to go this season for whatever happens!
With Jan a near memory, it's fun to think about getting back out there to your favorite party spots. We can no longer say that we're avoiding going out because we partied to much during the holiday season. To get in the mood, check out these press ops that took place recently in Las Vegas! As always, I love to share some of the fab videos that you can find at KarmaloopTV!
When it's the holiday season, you're allowed to kick back and relax! Right now Kitten Lounge is gearing up for Jan 4th as we move forward on to various projects that can only mean good things for the community in general! With that being said, we bring you a fab vid from our partners at KarmaLoopTV which includes on of 2009's greatest end of the year parties with Aaron LaCrate, Mark Ronson, Mz. Streamz, Spank Rock and Daniel Merriweather. All of this is brought to you by MILKCRATE (PS if you missed one of the hottest DJ's mixes to bring in 2010 you have to check out DJ Eloy.
Yes Christmas is this Fri - I can't even believe it but I'm also thinking about next week when one of my favorite days, New Year's Eve is coming up! Wherever you are in the world and whatever it is that you're doing there's a look you're going for! A group of friends and I are hosting a NYE party which is going to be fun and of course, it's themed. Other friends will be on a cruise and someone is doing a casino night. When it comes to NYE, you could be doing anything (which is why we don't have a spread but a collection of dresses).
Chictopia is running a contest in collaboration with Bebe and they want to know what you're going to be wearing as we close the door on 2009 and get ready to ring in 2010! All you need to do is upload pictures to Chictopia's site and 3 winners will be announced on January 9th and of course, you will receive a gift from Bebe. Although you could win on their site, for those that upload their image on Chictopia and would like to receive a $25 Bebe Gift Card and a cute piece from Nicole Ritchie's line, House of Harlow, you simply need to post the link of your image on the Chictopia site back here on Kitten Lounge! We will announce the winner of this on Jan 10th!
So last night, I flipped through my emails and received a press release about Ann Taylor Loft not being known as LOFT. In addition to this focused name, they have defintiely over the past few seasons stepped it up in getting fun pieces that can definitely take you from the office to a night out. I believe that this is the first time that I have included The Loft on Kitten Lounge and with so many holiday parties popping up why not? The Satin Dress is a great staple for a holiday occassion and I love that it already has a necklace effect! You could place simple diamond earrings a charm necklace and a pair of heels together and you're done. Although this is a great look, I find that a simple dress is the perfect canvas to let your personality show through and so this sweet dress is getting decked out with fab accessories which takes it to an entirely new level!
Slowly but surely, I'm getting into the caged bootie and as a friend of mine has an option to get any pair of Christian Louboutin's, possibly this could be something that she should get. I love that you can wear this with skinny jeans but this is also perfect for a dress! You know that anytime I'm out, Ted Rossi is on my wrist and this black matte python cuff with the cross is a conversation piece without question. Finally, I have been a fan of Siman Tu for about 5 years or so and his natural pieces never cease to amaze me. Put together, you have take the perfect black dress to an entirely new level and you have fab accessories that can be worn with a number of pieces in your growing closet! Satin never looked so sweet and these pieces bring out the inner rocker as well!
In an effort to spread the word about LOFT, Kitten Lounge has entered the LOFT’s Blog Wars/"Where Do You Get Your Fashion Fix?" contest! I am a firm believer in that there is no excuse to leave for an event or your home without feeling like you are dressed for the occassion. Whether you're just finding your style or attempting to rework your entire closet and your budget may not be where you would like it to be, you can still be someone that everyone looks at wishing that they had your sense. It's all about finding what works best for you and being able to translate that so that others follow suit.
When it comes to my style of dress, it's more of a classic one. My accessories are the areas that I definitely let my personality come out; however, my clothing involves simple, classic lines. Am I going to a Broadway show, out for drinks at the newest lounge or simply meeting up with friends? You never know and that's what I love about it. My day takes me to various places that are planned and unplanned and I hate thinking that I'm not 95% dressed for most occassions that I may be invited to at the spur of the moment (no I don't travel with a ball gown in my large bag). Today, I'm wearing the classic wrap shirt dress. Although mine isn't from Ralph Lauren (but you could be wearing BCBG's, Alexander Wang's or DVF's) and nor is it black (I'm in Navy), I thought that I would share my approach to getting dressed to provide the appearance of effortlessly putting an outfit together.
If you happen to like what I'm wearing or any other day, it's mainly because I know the shapes that make me feel comfortable. When you continue to buy the same items, you definitely have a large portion of your signature look and you never have to wonder how things fit. In fact, I build my outfits around my accessories so the actual articles of clothing are my standard basics that have classic shapes that have worked well over decades although I'm on 30 - if you love Mary Tyler Moore, Audrey Hepburn and many of these iconic dressers - you'll see that I too love them and include elements of their looks within my own closet.
I'm all about accessories and can't imagine leaving the house with a few of them on. Above are items that are not meant to be worn together (although you totally could) but can be paired with this outfit. When I'm at events like I will be tonight and people may not know who I am, how much easier is it to say "oh there's Kimmie, she's in the wrap dress with that gorgeous shell ring (I don't own one in black; however, the one in beige that I have has been the ultimate conversation maker and can be worn in all seasons). As many of you know, I am a HUGE fan of Ted Rossi's and I do feel underdressed if his python cuffs are not on my wrists (when I'm truly out for the evening, you will see me holding one of his clutches as well). I love the shirt dress as it is for all seasons; however, with the chill in the air, you will see me pairing mine with a stacked boot! These gorgeous boots are definitely a great way to elongate the leg and to give you a certain spring to your step. The wrap dress does come with a belt; however, I love emphasizing the waist and if you're wearing a dress where you can take your belt off, why not pair it with a wide one. Hopefully, it has an interesting buckle and something that draws the eye! Finally, although you will almost never see earrings on me (it's the one accessory I don't really like wearing) I encourage pop within accessories as well and love these by Bounkit Jewelry!
Now with this gorgeous black wrap dress you can stick with black accessories or you can add various elements of color! Today I'm in Navy and you will see me pair my look with brown! I love items that allow you to be a conversation piece and encourage people to come to you to chat. This is one of the most essentials of making it at an event and being a great networker. Once you wow them with your style, you can wow them with what you bring to the table. Style is just as casual as anything that you do in life. You may have to work at finding your own groove, but once you do it's second nature and this is a holiday gift that keeps on giving from now throughout the sidewalk and carpeted runways that you will hit. I'll see you guys tonight at the W at the Fashion 2.0 Fashion Trivia event where I will be one of the contestants for the Fashion Bloggers!
This post has definitely caused a stir in my house! Paul is a Jets fan and I'm a Colts fan. Yes I like various teams but just because I changed states doesn't mean that I change my favorite team. Growing up in Indiana, I had a lot of Colts shirts and now that I live in NY, you may see me out and about on a Sunday in my gear! It's fun to have a get together at home and why not add in elements of your own team through NFL fashion and lifestyle items. Although Paul will never wear a Colts shirt, I do like this one so if you have a guy who you need to gift, this about the one in this spread! I don't have a Colts sweatshirt, I do like this layered look which is perfect over a pair of yoga pants.
Don't feel that you have to stop with your shirts, think about having a cute martini set or even getting poochie in on the fun! Whether you're having a huge party, just watching among friends or are at home checking out your fantasy football team to see where you rank - you can always do it in style. I have to say that fantasy football has been something that I didn't know a lot about; however, when you do it in teams, you can have all the fun of seeing whether you won while your teammate has to do the work of all the switches and statistics. For the serious pros that want to get all their information to ensure that their teams do well, you may be interested in the NFL betting site that shares what the probability of your team winning is which could be helpful when you've challenged your friends at the water cooler.
Now I am not one to spend a lot of time in the kitchen; however, today I spent all day there without having to cook a thing! After a fun night out, Niki stayed over and as I sat with my gal pal laughing and talking our way from breakfast straight through to nibbling a late lunch/early dinner. All of this was done as we sat in the kitchen (and I think my boyfriend was pleased to have a true football Sunday) watching Rachel Zoe, Grease and Grease 2! The kitchen table is an essential as it brings everyone together and becomes a home base of sorts for conversation! Above are some great table options that work with various kitchens regardless of how much space you may have. With the holiday season coming up, make sure you're cocktail/dinner party ready for all of your gatherings!
Sometimes keeping it simple is nice! It's felt like a long week and I've been hitting a lot of events. As much as I love my traditional tee, jeans and heels - I love my graphic tee and jeans as well! So today, I kept it casual with a simple necklace (the knot necklace can be casual or definitely dress up your look), cocktail ring (if you're going to do it - it's got to be big and I love the grren Amethyst), a cuff and my tee. I'm a huge fan of Sailor Jerry. I love the inspiration behind the line and when this Philly based - family owned company was in Vegas during the shows for Magic, they threw an awesome party! With 10 years under their belt, they headed to the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino and had amazing performers! I have to say that they were one of my two favorite parties that week (the other one being the Hudson Jeans party). To understand how amazing the brand is, check out their site, try their rum as it's really good and head to the store! From time to time they have live bands that play within their store and the environment has such positive energy! I have yet to go but have plans this fall and hope they keep me in the loop on future events! For now, this tired chica has some trailblazing to do and can't wait until it's the weekend!
This weekend we'll be partying as this is known as the last summer party weekend! Jagermeister is one of the cooler shots when you're out and about. If you've seen the Tap Machine that is at many bars, you know that it always makes the perfect shot with the perfect chill. Now you no longer have to go to the bar, you can enjoy their new 6 shot cooler! This cooler comes with 50 cups and the bottles can sit within this easy to carry cooler to ensure that the party never stops! In addition, when the lid is closed, there are places for your shots to sit. When it's open you have the compartments for the bottles and you have another where the cups sit. Finally, you can pore out the perfect shot since there is a little spout! The two bottles sit in a compartment where they can be turned over so that the liquid can come out! Let's just say that once my boyfriend sees this post, he will be begging for this to be a permanent fixture within our home (although he still wants the much coveted Tap Machine). Take some time to check out the images and since this was available Sept 1st, you can definitely get this in time for your party whether its this weekend or some other time in the near future!
I'm flying through the friendly skies as you're reading this or I could already be in Vegas at this point! One of my favorite nibbles to have - oysters! I love that they make you feel so classy when you're eating them and it's the perfect snack food if you're having it at a bar in Long Beach (yes NY) or in Key West! We're having an oyster party and I have created a collection of must haves! Now Paul is going to get oysters (I hope they're already opened - if not then he will need this tool to force them open! When you lay them out, it's so much easier to place it on a plate that already has the little "scoops" that make it easy for them to lay down without moving around! You can still lay them on sea salt for the overall effect. Little forks are a necessity and they're just super cute! Of course you'll have other items that are tasty as well! How about Pottery Barn's serving shells which bring in nature while also being extremely artistic. Take some time to figure out what you need for your oyster party (these are also great for any sea themed event!).
We're in that time where you'll think of any excuse to throw a little party (or maybe a big one). We just threw a large Lobster Boil Party which was a great way for people to come out, have some great food and a few drinks. We had a theme, I had sent out invitations and everything went from there. Whether you're a natural at planning or could use a few pointers, I wanted to share a great video of a party planner that I recently met! Last Thursday, I had the opportunity to go on the Dekuyper Party Bus where we not only enjoyed shots of Dekuyper's ready made shots (this means you don't have to stress about being a bartender), but we enjoyed nibbles and learning that you can have people come to a party in various ways with various budgets in mind! Take some time to hear some ideas and never think that you can't have a function whether it's based on space, money, food or even ideas!
We're having our second annual Lobster Broil at the condo and I'm super excited as it's nice to have it in October but it's much more fun when it's in June! I just got our invitations which are a mix of lobster and Madras shorts - images to follow soon! But more importantly, there are so many things to get when you're hosting a party that goes throughout the day and will have around 30 people there. The main event is lobster so here I have some of the essentials, the pot, lobster crackers (Crate & Barrel is such a must when you're having a gathering) and the lobster forks. Of course, Crystal of Tasty Morsels Bakery is not only coming but is supplying these cookies which are the cutest things ever! So glad that she's bringing them so that everyone can see how much of a hit they are!!! Whatever you're doing, make sure you have a theme and you stay true it. In addition, plan as much as you can in advance to guarantee that you get the most people possible for your event!
