Sundance Film Festival has been going on for the past few days as it's a great way to enjoy film, actors coming together and great winter style. Jennifer Hudson was in Park City, Utah promoting the film, "The Inevitable Defeat of Mister and Pete" which she is starring in along with Alicia Keys and Jordin Sparks. Jennifer Hudson continues to showcase how much of a star she is beyond her obvious talent of having an amazing voice. Last year on Fashion's Night Out, she launched her clothing collection during NYFW on QVC complete with a runway show and hitting the airwaves. She will be back this year with additional pieces of her lines! The "American Idol" contestant and Oscar winner will be on NBC's "Smash" next month with a two hour episode on February 5th at 9pm EST, where we will see her singing, dancing and acting along with Megan Hilty, Katherine McPhee and Christian Borle on its second season.
In addition, she continues to keep up the momentum as she continues with Weight Watchers as their spokesperson looking fabulous. We can't wait to see what she's up to whether it's snagging another cover on Lucky Magazine or just spreading her earnest joy in being a mega star.
There are a number of things that take place during Fashion Week beyond fashion shows! There are presentations and pop up shops! Now more pictures will be available but I wanted to let you know that yesterday, I went to QVC's pop up shop in Rockefeller Center where we were given the opportunity to be "re-chic'd" in between shows by none other than major stylist and Madonna's first stylist, Lori Goldstein! We all walked away with fab pieces from her QVC collection LOGO Instant Chic - of course I received accessories but there were also cute shirts, tanks and cardigans. Not only that but we nibbled on macaroons and had fun hanging out (above is Kristin Booker of Fashion Street Beauty and Aly Walansky of She Knows.com) and just catching up on the general madness! We were streamed live which is always fun and Lori will be on QVC.com later on tonight 11:30pm - 11:50pm so you will want to check her out to see her fabulous pieces for sure!
The past couple of days have been chaotic, transformative, inspirational and at times emotional. There are definitely changes coming for the better and in a post later on today, I'll share this as I have met so many people recently that are on the same page as me and have basically validated a lot of things that I have been thinking about over the past two months; however, that's another topic! As I ran around yesterday from client consultations, presentations and finally to LOFT's fall preview (I have to say that I was shocked and amazed at many of the items that will be in their stores and it's a good thing - Joe Zee, Creative Director of Elle, also agreed as well as I literally turned into him before I headed over to the next series of displays) - my mind couldn't stop thinking about today. Yes I have a million things to do today but more importantly, I'm meeting with Iman. What can you say about this striking catwalk model who turned her looks and passion for fashion into an empire of cosmetics, The Color of Beauty (great coffee table read) and her own line on HSN!
There have been a lot of events this week that I have been excited so I'm glad to keep the good events going. So in the midst of everything, above are fab items that I will be wearing as I haven't exactly picked the right outfit yet although I do know my accessories (yeah Alexis Bittar). I'm obsessed with Body Scrubs and this one from Dermadoctor is one of my favorites and they just launched on QVC yesterday so if anyone got the chance to talk with Dr Audrey Kunin, I'd love to know what you asked her! Of course I'm wearing gloss from Iman's collection as I would feel bad not supporting her since I will be at her event! Last month at my visit to Natori's home to hear about her Essentials Collection, I found out about her amazing perfume and if you are a fan of Chanel No 5(which was my initial fave), this is a scent that at first reminds you of it and then takes it to a complete 3.0! I love the black orchid and that really rich plum tone to it - it's like exotic empress! Finally, Sue Devitt Beauty has an amazing collection and as her line if reminiscent of the islands, I love her Kilimanjaro collection which is brand new. I definitely want to go for this fab island look and of course will share all the details of this event and will have my Flip at the ready!
First, QVC is the place to be today! After watching their 4pm show with stylist turned designer, Lori Goldstein collection, LOGO Instant Chic - come back at 7pm to meet Dr Audrey Kunin of Dermadoctor. For those lucky girls that are hosting viewing parties at their home, you know how amazing the products are and although they have the super cute chicken on some of the projects, their mission is to ensure that none of us have those itchy and dry chicken skin patches. Since it's not Thursday, I will not go into detail about the products but I will encourage you to visit Dermadoctor and to tune in as Dr Kunin will be answering viewer questions. Tomorrow, I will let you guys know about the kit that I received as well as The Litmus Test which is available on QVC only!
If Lori Goldstein seems to have slipped the people you should know when you say the name, then you need to Google stat! Lori is an amazing stylist and although she doesn't consider herself a celebrity stylist, sitting in her home Mon night I watched the flat screen display various iconic images that she has had her fingers on. Watching all the images, I knew I was in the presence of greatness and sitting in her home - I could see writing forever and having inspiration. Whether it was the amazing books, art or the ample light - Lori Goldstein's approach to understanding her clients in order to take them to the next level is apparent. This event had three purposes - 1) meet the infamous Lori who Karen Robinovitz has been talking about for awhile and 2) take an outfit that you either don't like or don't know what to do with to be styled by Lori and 3) to get sneek peeks on her new collection for QVC!
I know a lot of stylists and for me, I love meeting those that share my style philosophy. To learn that Lori is from Ohio (love midwest girls we think a lot), that she learned a lot in the trenches of Fred Segal and that she believed that fashion should be comfortable and that at the end of the day it's all play and if you don't like it, take the legs off if it - I knew I was hooked. Super sweet, down to earth and with an earnest desire to listen, Lori talked about her experiences to a room that was captivated. I'm always in awe of the various people that I meet at events and that I have the ability to say that I know them - of course Dina from Eye 4 Style was there, Jeannine from Beauty Sweet Spot and I finally met THE Felicia of Felicia Sullivan.com and there were many others that I was finally able to meet in IRL.
Lori's QVC collection LOGO Instant Chic launches this afternoon from at 3-4pm and in addition to fabulous basics and pops of color, I was pleased to see that she has various accessories as apart of the collection and everything is under $100! I received a super cute dress that will be AMAZING to wear year around whether layered or alone and I loved other tops and cardigans. Stay connected to the line via its LOGO Facebook page as I'm sure there will be updates!
In addition to seeing the collection we each received a one on one styling session with her as she tugged, plucked and in some cases cut and cut our pieces into what we always wanted. Later this week I will include one of the pieces that I received in my goodie bag and show how I styled it back into a look but for now, enjoy fab pics from the party (photos courtesy of Shooting Stars Pro)! My absolute highlight was having the chance to chat with Lori about my favorite topic, accessories and to hear her enthusiasm about my focus and that she too felt that sometimes an accessory made the difference between loving an outfit and simply looking it over without a second thought. My outfit that I brought was ok. I didn't hate it it was from Lauren Conrad's first collection before she went down the Kohl's road and I wore it when I first covered Fashion Week in Sept 08; however, when I saw myself with it on camera, I wasn't in love. By working the belt in a new way and popping in her necklace, I felt transformed.
Celebrity make up artists are definitely people that I keep an eye out for. Tomorrow on QVC, spunky and super cute Mally Roncal who has worked on Heidi Klum and Beyonce will be on air at 8pm EST to launch her very own fragrance, Mally BeautyFragrance! I received a sample for free from my friends at QVC and the scent has such an awesome citrus scent that really makes you feel good! Mally knows all about bringing out the inner diva in her clients and with this scent and super personality, she's bound to tap into yours! Make sure to check her out!
