Wearable Wednesdays ~ It's How You Say It

Fashion is merely another language it just happens to be visual and if you know where to look, you get a deeper insight into the individual. I may feel this way as I started as an intimates model and learned a lot about the underwear industry from the quality of various fabrics to how wearing something that only you could see totally changed how you walked and interacted throughout the day - who knew? I think that that job definitely let me know a lot more about how we go about dressing as a means to say who we are and how we want to be perceived.

Recently, I started taking some courses at S Factor - yes the pole dancing class that combines dance, yoga and of course the pole. I love that these women only courses allow you to come for 2 hours to work out and dress in whatever way you need to dress in order to do your best. You may see a girl in yoga pants or in cute boy boxers. It's yet another way to express yourself. All of this brings me to Lolly38.

If you haven't checked them out in our Holiday Gift Guide, you definitely should! They're all about letting out your wild side via your underthings and your yoga gear as well! Whether you purchase one of their super cute undies that have one of various slogans imprinted on them or you decide to get you and your friends something custom, they've got you covered. Whether you wear them under your clothes, to exercise or any number of outfit combinations, the perfect phrase can be purchased to let that portion of your personality out to those who you wish to know about it!

I'm a big believer in everything having the ability to be accessorized so if you loved my last look for the perfect outfit to wear to S Factor wherever you're taking it in the country, here is yet another and yes the links are clickable!

Mingling Mondays ~ Find Your S Factor

I guess life does have cycles. We do everything in stages only to race to a finish line. We spend 18 years to get good grades and to figure out where we end up in terms of who finished where within their class and we focus on getting into that school to do our race all over again but for shorter periods of time. This race ends and some continue on their education track while others dive into a career and yet there are many detours, stops and starts along the way but we're all on our grind hustling and trying to figure out where we're going. There's no rule book to success but the more you're out there, you're bound to get it. But where do we need to be and what is the holy grail of "it"? It can be a little daunting and at the age of 30 I find myself saying what is it that I want and how to reorganize some of my priorities as I need to make sure that I am taking care of myself. Taking care of myself does mean staying fit, eating right etc but it's to also remember that I am a multi-faceted person with various needs. Your body knows what it wants if you listen.

I had heard about S Factor from the beginning of me coming to NY but it took until earlier this year for me to go to an open house that Crystal at Tasty Morsels Bakery participated in at S Factor for me to see a demo that kept me in awe. To have the body control to do the amazing tricks that were done on the pole was definitely a mind bender and it was a few days later that I took the intro class. I love challenging exercises that stimulate the body and the mind and I had nothing but positive things to report on this site but life is interesting. A person can do the same activity within months of each other and gain a completely different experience. Fast forward to about 6 months or so later and I find myself with various colleagues within the blogging community at an Editors S Factor session (complete w 6" stilettos). The person sitting in this session is someone that has had a lot of personal growth over the past few months and not only realizes that she is closer to what she wants but wants more personal fulfillment as well. I want to know more about me and to hear me and today's session does just that.

Our S Factor session combined yoga, pole dancing and a dance routine while encouraging that hearing yourself is an essential tool to your growth within the various courses (they run 8 weeks but there are 6 levels and unlike most classes where the conclusion of all steps have a finality, you're able to continue to grow). Jill was one of our teachers (I was fortunate to have her as my teacher in a previous introductory course) and she is a power ball of energy, understanding and sisterhood. To be able to slow down is something that I have been thinking a lot more of and it has been something that fellow Editor, Keren has been telling me and all of us via her Project Detox series. Did I wake up feeling sore (absolutely - you have a lot of ab and lower back work to do all of the sensual things that you do in class) but did I feel empowered with the idea of working within a women's only studio and to hear nothing but positive affirmations? Absolutely. For those of us that work to do the impossible whether it's within our family, career goals, etc - we need to get out our emotions and to realize that beyond being fearless trailblazers, we are still women who have sensuality, femininity and qualities that set us apart not only from men but other women as we are individuals. I can't wait to start taking courses as a student and to create a sense of balance and to get in touch with areas that I may not focus on in my day to day but can within a 2 hour session. Whether you're doing a full on course, an express, focusing on lap dances and more - you're bound to find something that speaks to you. If you're interested in finding out about S Factor and your S, from now through Dec 1st of 2009, you can contact your local S Factor (they're in CA, IL, NY and TX) and use the code kitten09 to get 50% off of your introductory class.

Trendy Thursdays ~ Meet Karen Creatrix of Purple Lab NYC!

This week's beauty segment is special as I had the chance to not only interview Karen Robinovitz, Creatrix of Purple Lab , but we have a recent video of her on an appearance at CW11 earlier this week AND I actually hung out with her and some amazing people from her team at a recent beauty/yoga event! So everything you may have wanted to know about her, the brand and Huge Lips Skinny Hips, can be found right here! Not a bad way to spend this Thursday. The interview is below and of course the video is above.

For the past few years, we have heard of a lot of products that have hit shelves that plump your lips. Although I was a fan of Too Faced, I didn't like the tingling (read - burn) that I felt when I used it and I felt that it made my lips feel dry and a bit sticky which is not what I was going for. When I used products that had the plump "solution" and color in it, once again the sensation wasn't pleasant and my lips felt tight. Somehow there didn't seem to be a balance. Then as I was reading Twitter, I happened to see that one of my friends Jeannine of Beauty Sweet Spot @beautysweetspot, was talking to @PurpleLabNYC and that various members of their team was online. I was definitely intrigued, much like the founder I love purple and I wanted to know about the lab. I found out that this was a beauty line and one that empowered women (more below in the interview) and I loved the collection and the names. Of course after reaching out to their PR and talking with the Creatrix, I found myself accepting an invite to a Yoga Beauty party and got the opportunity to try the gloss and I have to say, I'm a fan! Being someone that has recently embraced wearing lip gloss that has a tint, it's definitely something that I will continue to grab when I head out the door.

The event was an AMAZING night with an intense yoga session that was desparately needed as many times, I'm so busy that I never take a second. In addition to the yoga, bonding and just enjoying one another's company, we had a session that was so intimate and revealing that I won't go into detail but it was amazing that everyone in the room seemed to be pushing or going into a direction and they needed an affirmation of sorts. It was such an honor to be in the room and here these revelations. As I left the amazing home of Libby the yoga instructor, I realized that the Purple Lab family (which will be making some amazing moves) is a tight family and definitely one of those companies that are truly holistic. It's not just about making an amazing product but the very events that they create nourish the body, mind and soul. If there was ever a company that I wanted to continue working with or for, this would be on the top of my list! Karen, the Creatix was such a profound presence that I'm excited to present the following interview that I had with her. Although this was done a day or so prior to meeting her, I can truly say that the person that I met is every bit of what you're about to read in her own words!

Interview with Karen Robinovitz of Purple Lab

Where do you see Purple Lab in terms of future product extensions?

We are in development with six new products right now and it will eventually be a line that covers all beauty needs - full face, creams, cleansers, hair, maybe even shoes one day! Everything will be double duty with a lot of flair and personality. I believe you can be sophisticated in formulation, chic and whimsical and fun at once. While the products are serious, my approach is more cheeky and that will always be a part of Purple Lab's DNA.

As far as specifics, I can't share just yet but I can share what we're doing for Breast Cancer Awareness month - a lip gloss called SWAC (Sealed with a Cure) in partnership with the Triple Negative Breast Cancer Foundation. I had never heard of triple negative breast cancer but when I met a group of amazing women who lost a good friend to this subtype of the disease, I thought it was important to do something. So this gloss is infused with Ecchinachea for the immune system, mangosteens which is a tropical fruit that is full of antioxidants, vanilla which is a natural anti-depressant and Vitamins C and E for moisture and nourishment. If you're going through chemo, the lips get very dry.

For a dose of glamour - and I believe all women should feel beautiful, especially when they are fighting an illness that, in essence, impacts their femininity - there is real gold flakes, adding sparkle.

The color is named Nancy, who inspired the foundation's creation when she passed away. Her friends created it in her honor. The gloss comes with her story.

It's a beautiful product, inside and out.

What can we expect to see for the Holiday Season?

Two fabulous new shades of Huge Lips Skinny Hips: Limo to Lobby, a lovely pink named after the fashion pieces made for fashion's sake, not for standing or sitting... literally, going from the limo to the lobby; Goji Berry Smoothie, a soft berry gloss after my favorite breakfast treat. It comes with my recipe.

A lot of new products will launch in January and you'll see soon! Still under wraps!

How did you come up with the name of the gloss line - were there other names that you thought about?

Well, the brand name, Purple Lab, is because my favorite color is purple - it's strong, playful, fun, and chic, everything the brand is. And Lab is two-fold - there is a mad scientist in my brain, constantly thinking of mixing things in an unexpected way, and also because I was applying to med school when I was in college (and I majored for biology). When I decided to move to New York to pursue a different career - one in fashion and beauty - my dad joked that I was turning in my lab coat for a "fab coat."

Huge Lips Skinny Hips was the ONLY name for this gloss - how could it be anything else? It came to me when I was at a cocktail party and plowed through so many carbs that I had to go home - I had ring around the waist and my pants felt one size too small. I joked to my husband, "if my lip gloss would plump my lips and not my hips, I wouldn't be in this mess." And that's when it hit me: lip gloss that has plumper and Hoodia! Huge Lips Skinny Hips!

The point of the gloss is to be a beautiful way of reminding yourself to be healthy. Appetite is mind over matter so this helps my mind!

How long has Purple Lab been around?

Launched in May - but it took two years of incubation and figuring things out to get here.

Where can we find Purple Lab and what celebs are loving it right now?

Right now, it's available at b-glowing.com, Scoop, C.O. Bigelow in NYC, Fred Segal Melrose, Ocean Beauty in Santa Monica, Bliss, Kitson in Los Angeles, and Bliss.

We're expanding in a big way very soon - announcements to come!

And our own e-commerce will be up by November.

Celeb fans include:

Lisa Rinna, Jennifer Love Hewitt, the cast of Gossip Girl (it's used on the show!), Nicky Hilton, Brittany Snow, Bridget Moynahan, and more!

If there was a goodie bag or gifting suite that you would love to have your product in - what would it be?

Oscars!

What has been the most unexpected part of this experience in creating this line?

Everything! I cannot believe how much goes into manufacturing, production, testing, warehousing, shipping - more than I ever imagined. I blog and vlog about it on my site so that it can be a road map for anyone looking to start her own thing.

How do you choose the colors that will be apart of the line and which one is your favorite?

I don't have a favorite - that is like asking a mother which child she loves the most. These are my babies. I think about the classic, go-to shades women need - I poll them, ask on Twitter and Facebook, and then I test them on women of all shades and complexions to make sure that each shade is universally flattering. I want the red to look good on a fair skin, dark skin, olive skin, etc. And same with all of the colors. It will be different with foundation and concealer, but for lips, it's about having the shades you can rely on no matter what!

I too love pole dancing classes and go to S Factor. I think it has such an empowering message and is a nice way to step outside of what I normally do to relax and yet have fun. What about that philosophy carries over to the line?

S-Factor and I have very similar mantras. We believe women should love their bodies, which is why there is a color on the line called "Love Your Thighs" (Just because I named the gloss Huge Lips Skinny Hips doesn't mean I define skinny nor does it mean we have to be skinny or that is the ideal - it's all cheeky and fun). We believe that women should feel their best, sexiest, and own every room she walks in. We believe women should be inspired and go after every single dream they have. Each product comes with a love note about its inspiration so that the woman using it can have that sense of glamour with them where ever they go.

Will you ever name the products after celebrities?

Well, we do have Worship Kate, a pinkish/mauve gloss with a hint of glitter. That was inspired by Kate Moss. We'll see where the rest of the line takes me.

Fashionable Fridays: The Pearl of Lingerie

Now I am a huge fan of Victoria's Secret and Pink. I think it's a lot of fun and it's always a great place to go in terms of convenience but when you're talking about true lingerie I have to give much love to La Perla! But La Perla is much more than just lingerie it's also bathing suits as well. They know how to bring out the sensual and after taking my introduction to S Factor last night, I began thinking of sensuality and luxury in a new way. This Valentine's Day, I am making a pledge that I am going to remember that in the midst of the hustle and bustle that goes on in my day to day life, I will make sure to take out time for me to hear my own inner voice. Of course that will also include buying things that I enjoy wearing and not just items that are "convenient". La Perla is definitely something that I want to incorporate into my wardrobe and I may get a bathing suit to bask on the sands of the Dominican Republic next month. So for those of you that have half days and want to take a little stroll, head down to Soho to pick up a little something that will kick off your Valentine's Day and beyond (of course, even visiting their website transports you to another state of mind).

Trendy Thursdays: Smooth Sailing

Last Saturday, I went to one of my favorite places that have definitely made my life easier! Beam Laser Spa lets me forget about how my underarms look when I'm out and about. On a recent trip to Orlando when the weather was toasty and I was seeking refuge from an impending snowy storm in NYC, I was completely ready! The sisters of Beam Laser Spa are definitely the ones to go to when you know that you want to look your best wherever you're looking to have no hair! This isn't just for women as men also can enjoy this as well. This is the perfect way to enjoy Valentine's Day if you have a getaway or you're turning your studio into a love hideaway. Whether you're doing a girl's weekend or getting ready for the Dominican Republic (oh yes my vaca is only a few weeks away). Take some time to make sure that you get your free test patch to see what wonders it can do for you and then book your appointment!

PS - Tonight I am doing my first S Factor class and it's much easier to know that I can do my best with clean armpits!

Mingling Mondays: Agent Provocateur

I love it! Yesterday I talked about S Factor and today I'm all about one of my favorite lingerie lines. For those of you that may or may not know, I used to do fit work for a few lingerie brands and although I never did this for this brand, I love how amazing they are! So this week I'm all about Valentine's Day and sharing the best of what I know in terms of great things that are good for the day and beyond! Agent Provocateur is one of my favorite lingerie stores and this is defintiely something that you should consider when thinking about expanding this portion of your closet. In addition to having an instore or an online presence in terms of shopping, there is also a blog called Hello Agent Provocateur! Not only do they talk about one of my favorite subjects but they also talk about a lot of items that are in pop culture. Currently they have posts about Daniel Craig's new movie (yum), the fact that we should wait to see "He's Just Not That Into You" (we all need a movie night at home) and so much more. Also, for those on Twitter, you should also check them out at msprovocateur!

Snazzy Sundays: S Factor & Tasty Morsels Bakery

Last night I enjoyed a fun evening at S Factor which was an open house/3 year birthday party. This is the infamous studio where you do pole dancing classes! I have to say that watching the demonstration made me want to join this class! This is a great way to stay fit, enjoy your body and of course to just enjoy having fun. I love the fact that it's an all women's group and really feel that it is an amazing opportunity if you have the chance to join. I have yet to join but think that I will try an introductory class without a doubt (thank you to those who showed me a few things - it was a lot of fun).

In addition to last night's event, there was a debut of Tasty Morsels Bakery which had the cutest cookies for this event. Since this was for S Factor, the cookies had corsets, frilly panties, lips and more. When I get these images, I will definitely let you guys know and update this post. Until then, if you are looking for tasty cookies with a great flavor and that can be customized, this is the bakery for you! It's perfect for events, corporate and anything else that you can imagine! The owner of this Brooklyn based bakery, Crystal Horton, is an artist which lends to the amazing creativity that she can do with her cookies! So, think about S Factor if you're in NYC and regardless of where you are, Tasty Morsels Bakery is the best place for you to find your sweet needs!

Fashionable Fridays: The S Factor

I am so excited that tomorrow I will be attending an open house for the S Factor! This is the infamous pole dancing classes which not allow you to feel great about yourself but that you also can look great as well. I have been thinking about taking this class for awhile in Chelsea; however, I was completely motivated when I realized that a friend of mine was participating with her cookies! For those of you that will be at tomorrow's S Factor, you will also enjoy Tasty Morsels Bakery which has cookies that look like little pieces of art! I am so excited for her and hope that others will love them as well!  Hopefully I will see you tomorrow at the S Factor at 235 West 23rd St NY, NY!
