Mingling Mondays ~ Santorini Style

Yesterday I closed out July heading to the Javits Center to check out a number of apparel, intimate and accessories brands at a massively large series of shows. I was inspired, excited and pooped! Now that we are in August, there are a number of things that go on this month that are in an effort to have a truly successful NY Fashion Week experience for Team Kitten Lounge! But in addition, with my upcoming collab launches, fab media push and events - things are just a bit more amped up then usual. The next few weeks is a serious push that I am super excited about and it's also the hottest part of the summer here in NYC! I'm already thinking of post Fashion Week which always involves phenomenal massages to end out 9 hard core days but I am also making sure that by the time I have come down from the fashion and last trade shows of Sept that Paul and I can say that we are hopping on a flight to Santorini!

I have never been but the images alone have given me such peace that I do believe that this season it must be a reality. Although I travel to a number of locations some of them being super exotic, it's not a vacation and if I revealed the last time I went on one, it would be too shameful to even admit! As always, it's all about the outfits, I definitely would want to rock an amazing bikini (love Matthew Williamson) that's super simple and can be paired with a kaftan. With these accessories from Noir, Alexis Bittar and Virgins, Saints and Angels I would definitely be in my element! Everyone needs bling even when it's time to relax. Of course, a simple pair of sandals from Christian Dior is a must! Only a few more weeks and then I'll be in holiday mode!>/p>

Mingling Mondays ~ Meet Carmindy (Celebrity MUA & TLC's What Not to Wear)

Every time she accomplishes something, you can see that she has added another gold Ippolita bangle to her wrist! I love accessory obsessions that keep you moving forward!
Her guilty pleasure - Tasti D-Lite!
Carmndy loves Grilled Cheese Sandwiches at The Red Light in Miami
Her restaurants are as global as the locations that she visits! Carmindy loves the grilled fresh octopus, Greek salad and local wine that is found at Dimitris on Ammoudi Bay in Oia Santorini Greece!
Carmindy, Make Up Artist, star on TLC's What Not To Wear

One of the most down to earth people that I have met who works in the industry is Carmindy! If you watch TLC's What Not to Wear, you know that for the past 9 years, she has been bringing out the inner beauty that has already existed within her clients. Beyond that she has been a make up artist on a variety of shoots and continues to share her love of natural beauty. As you know, a few weeks ago, Carmindy was apart of a Ponds Beauty event at the Columbus Hotel. I always enjoy being able to sit and chat with her; therefore, I thought she would be perfect to include on our Mingling Mondays of Influencers!

I love that Carmindy loves food as much as I do! Why just have one favorite spot when you can go all over the globe. Above you can check out her fave place in Santorini (have always wanted to go there) as well as in Miami (I can never go enough) but when she's here in NYC, she loves L'Artusi and anything on the menu is fair game when it comes to a fab meal here! While we maintain some of her locations that we're bound to catch her, when she finally comes up for a little air, you'll find her and her boyfriend vacationing in Croatia this summer - so cute! She's also love to spend time in New Zealand, Nepal and Sri Lanka. When you're traveling all over, her personal love of dressing in modern greek goddess/siren dresses means that you're light on packing and always ready for whatever the day will take you! I also love love love this trend as well.

When you're this busy and hopping to be on set, various locations as well as appearances, it's a no brainer that her iPhone is a must to keep her connected when she's jetsetting; however, she wishes that it had better international plans. Her fave app is The Lose it App which ensures that she stays on track with her diet.

With all of her travels and interests, I wanted to know what the biggest take away is for Carmindy due to her work on What Not to Wear. She said that, "helping women feel beautiful starts with getting to see themselves with fresh eyes not just slapping makeup on them. It's so much deeper than that." I think that that is such a positive boost and one that we should all think about when we're out and about each day. I also love that her love of beauty is being incorporated into another goal (which very well could result in an Ippolita gold bangle) where she hopes to start her own line of nutracosmetics like Borba with her Carmindy twist! That's a line that I would love to see!

Mingling Mondays: Day 4 Spring 2011 ~ Vassilios Kostetsos

My last show of the night before I headed to my birthday festivities was Vassilios Kostetsos which presented mens and womens looks during his show. I felt that there was a definite Grecian vibe and many of the pieces were fab and perfect if you were spending a few weeks in Santorini! I love that every season I am introduced to a designer that I am not as familiar with and can't wait to see what he will present next season! Enjoy my two fave looks and if you want more, check out Elle.com

Fashionable Fridays ~ Tsantali Wine Tasting & Lunch at Thalassa

One of my minors in college was Ancient Civilization so I studied about Roman and Greek mythologies, culture foods and college. My love affair with Greece started in middle school when I learned the alphabet and continued on through reading a number of ancient texts. But in college, I saw pictures of the most beautiful city which was Santorini. It is one of the 2 cities that I have yet to go to that I have always wanted to (the other would be Paris - my goal is within the next year I will go to both as the 3rd was Tokyo and I can check that off my list this month)! My love for being in this region has manifested itself by me being a fan of hummus and eating amazing Greek food. Last week I went to Molyvos and enjoyed it but when I received an invite to attend the Tsantali Wine Tasting and lunch at Thalassa, I knew it would be amazing. There have only been a handful of times that I have attended an event with a number of well known foodies and wine enthusiasts but I had our Food Editor with us and I decided that it would be a fun time!

Being in fashion, I look at restaurants differently, I think about places that would be amazing for a corporate dinner, Fashion Week Parties, launches and more. You want a place that transports you and when I talked with Tasso who is their Special Events Manager, I conveyed this feeling to him. The restaurant is gorgeous, has great details, exposed brick, light and a lot of space. This post will not focus on the food as we had a press lunch and I would have loved to have tried a number of things; however, I will definitely be back to share but I will say that the menu was enough to make me come back.

Tsantali Wines stems from the Tsantali family which is the third generation to continue this tradition with a diversified portfolio of wines. We enjoyed a number of wines but there were some that definitely caught my eye and the fact that many of them retail below $20 a bottle, it's an amazing buy to be honest. There were so many wines to choose from including red, white, rose, dessert wines and even an organic wine. My favorite was a Kanenas 2009 Rose I loved that it was a mix of sweet and dry tastes and I could imaging having it while eating caviar as I think it would be very complimentary. I also enjoyed Kanenas 2006 Red as well which had a taste of rosebuds and currant. Being someone that normally doesn't drink a lot of red, it was a pleasant surprise! I tried both of the Agioritikos (first regional wine in Greece) in White as well as the Rose - the Rose was my absolute favorite of anything that I drank the entire afternoon. The organic wine from the Halkidiki Vineyard was a Cabernet Sauvignon and I liked the satin like finish that it had and the spice that was in it. I felt that if I was drinking this, I would love to have it with a Kobe Burger as I think it would be an amazing pairing. In terms of the dessert wine I enjoyed the Mavrodaphne Cellar Reserve which would have been tasty with a creme brulee and the Lemnos which was thicker but would have been phenom with a honeydew and prosciutto plate. As I said there were a lot of wines but these were the ones that I enjoyed.

I loved hearing everyone's comments on the wines and learning about their culinary journey's. I also enjoyed just watching everyone interact with one another. With the hour of the tasting wrapping up, we headed upstairs to enjoy an amazing meal that would be paired with the drinks that we had tasted earlier in the day. While we ate, we had the honor of listening to Roger Dagorn, 1 of only 180 Master Sommerliers, taking us through the region and listening to what we should look for as we enjoyed the same wines with lunch as it would take on a different taste. Each course had at least 2 pairings of wine. Our first course was the Diver Sea Scallops Wrapped in Katalfi with Sheep's Milk Butter and Kalamata Balsamic Reduction (I loved this and found it so filling), this was followed by a Mediterranean Lavraki with Steamed Wild Greems (loved that one of the wines that was included was the Kanenas Red), this was followed by a third course of Grilled Lamb Chops Fingerling Potatoes and Haricots Verts which has the organic wine and finally our dessert was a Mavrodaphne Poached Pear with Mediterranean Halva that was paired with both of the dessert wines that were mentioned earlier in the post!

What an amazing meal and I agree sipping a wine alone and tasting it with food does change the way that you feel about it. I definitely enjoyed the Greek wines but I'm very excited to go back to truly experience the restaurant and to sample their Pear Martinis which I hear is phenom there!
