Sippin' Saturdays ~ PaperDoll On My Playlist

You know next weekend looks good when you are currently sitting in a weekend thinking about the next one coming up. Yes I am pleased to attend a special shopping event next Fri but I can't lie that it's going to be fun to go to PaperDoll's concert in the West Village next Saturday night. I think this calls for those special skinny jeans, a cute shirt, clucth and all the python accessories that I can find! Seriously, I began chatting it up with the lead singer of PaperDoll and after visiting their main home and MySpace page, I knew that this was something that I would always want playing on my iPod.

PaperDoll has not only been making the circuit but they have played to sold out shows at Knitting Factory, Crash Mansion and Mercury Lounge. With the release of the their debut album, Ballad Nerd Pop, this pop rock band embraces its listeners with great melodies, catchy tunes and just the feeling of excitement about their own music. I am a huge fan of the 80's sound and my favorite song is definitely, "Everything is Fine" which has a great sound and gets you ready to prepare for a night out or you may already be out enjoying a night with the girls or your growing group of friends.

Most importantly, I see Teresa as that early Gwen Stefani during the No Doubt days. I think she has a great style and definitely makes her look her own while taking ownership of her lyrics. OIf you have yet to hear this band, you can hear them next Sat! I hope to continue following this band on Kitten Lounge. as you know that I enjoy sharing indie music and I will be out next weekend catching my first (and hopefully not the last) show. I will also share my thoughts on the show as well.

Sippin Saturdays ~ Introducing Lindsey Yung

I am such a fan of music and have such a wide interest but, when I'm working, I have a very specific type of music that I could work to for hours. When I first found out about Lindsey Yung, I was intrigued by this piano playing singer/songwriter. I love the fact that she plays solo and that although I would classify her as a pop artist, she also has Hawaiian influences and although I didn't see this through the video, With Every Breath, she also plays the ukulele (as shown below).

This San Diego artist whose CD will be released October 2008, on her birthday no less, can be seen within her videos and performing live in long skirts of vibrant colors. I also love that she performs in her bare feet! After two years of work, if you happen to be in the San Diego area on October 4th, you'll be able to see her perform and to get her CD as well. Lindsey is such a celebrated singer/songwriter who finds her inspiration from the beautiful landscape of Maui. Enjoy the video and hear more snippets from her Myspace page.

Sippin' Saturdays: NYFW SS2009 ~ Tadashi Shoji

This show was definitely one that I was so excited to attend! I am such a fan of Tadashi's designs so as I sat there, I was so pleased to see Miss USA and Heather Schmid as well. As each design hit the runway, I was so glad that this was one of the shows that I was able to see on my birthday!

Sippin' Saturdays: NYFW SS2009 ~ Recouping From Fashion Week

All the planning and tests of endurance and witihin a few days, it's all over! Well the good news is there will be some recapping on Fashion Week next week but we will start to go back to our normal structure. There were a lot of outfits and coverage that made it onto other media outlets which I can't wait to share with you and my lovely sponsors but I don't have the footage and like you, will have to wait for it. When I receive it, I will let you guys know! With that being said I am recovering from Fashion Week and definitely had some parting thoughts and I have a new Fashion Week that I will let you know about shortly that I will be covering which takes place right before the holidays and it's International as well! We are getting the last bolts tied down but I can't wait to share with you.

Fashion Week - I have been to shows before but never seriously covered it in the way that I did this year! It definitely take a lot of planning and there are events that happen prior to, during and after! My big thing was feeling amazing each day and it wouldn't have been possible without starting off the day with my beauty regimine which consisted of Mistral Soap (I used a different one everyday and always smelled amazing - they are a must for any day), Nars Cosmetics (I need to know that I will look amazing and not have to retouch as I was running around all over the place) and Model Co (which kept me fresh with the misting sprays). These were my basic tools that I relied on!

Comfortable but amazing clothing was a must as well - Lauren Conrad's Collection made everyone smile as I went from the tents, suites and off site locations! I can't thank their staff enough and it actually made it live on air in Sacramento since Fox News was at the tents on Friday and a few Japanese magazines (once again, when I get the footage and magazines, I will let you know). Linea Pelle had amazing belts and on the first day and with my outfit from Inhabit, I included it within my look which was amazing. It just goes to show you that you can put your flair in there and still look amazing.

Every now and then I had to take a breather and constantly rework my schedule as I had plans to see one event but would recieve an invitation to another. When covering the shows flexibility is the key! Most important, being able to hang out with people in the industry and to remember that this is an amazing series of days is also key. I have to thank Sam Dark PR and Dashing Diva for not only keeping me amazing in manis and pedis but letting us go back stage to Erin Fetherston and Tony Cohen to see what they do and what it takes to put on such a show. I love you guys and it added so much to this coverage.

Finally, when it was over, yesterday was my birthday and with Lauren Conrad on my back I felt amazing covering the show and then heading out to dinner at Nam with my boyfriend and later to Mocca Lounge. There is nothing like hanging out in Tribeca with the rain, a few friends and your boyfriend. Today, I'm heading out to the beach and working on covering the super secret Fashion Week but it was all worth it and I can't wait to do it all over again in a new location! I have included two images: one is me on the red carpet of the Total Beauty party which kicked off Fashion Week. They had a daily sponsored suite at the Bryant Park Hotel with Chanel, Ted Gibson, Aveda and more. It was nice to meet fellow bloggers and to get away from the madness. You guys throw a great event. The next is last night at Mocca Lounge after a few drinks with Paul our Food Editor and also my boyfriend. Speaking of Food Editor, he was linked on Food Channel so you can learn a bit more about him there!

Sippin' Saturdays ~ Hafdis Huld

Right before Fashion Week, I had an amazing tip about an artist that I HAD to know about. Let me just say that when I got a little clarity today, I enjoyed learning about Red Grape Records' artist Hafdis Huld. Originally from Iceland but living in the UK, she has an amazing folk, acoustic, pop sound and I love this video that is currently on You Tube called Tomoko. Hafdis is the girl that is not in the brown cat suit dancing around! I debated this point back and forth until I had a talk with Kerry and he set me straight! I have to say that I love her sound! You can also learn more about her and other songs via her Myspace account. Her sound is unique and it definitely puts you in a great mood, I'm not sure who the second person is in the brown catsuit but the video is fun to watch because of their interaction! Thank you so much Kerry for the tip/clarification and I hope you guys love this video as much as I do!

Sippin' Saturdays: NYFW SS2009 ~ Carmen Marc Valvo

So Fashion Week is over and yesterday I had an AMAZING birthday and of course there will be recaps and I have another show that I attended last night as well. The Carmen Marc Valvo show was a beautiful show and reminded me of everything that I enjoy about fashion! I love seeing a show where you love every single piece that hits the runway and it's a shame that I can't include every piece but these were my ABSOLUTE faves from this show! I love a great evening gown and the attention to detail that is applied!

Sippin' Saturdays ~ Girls On Film

Yes we are in day two of Fashion Week but if there is one thing that you notice besides the clothes, it's the music. I will be tracking down the playlist of most of these shows as I have really enjoyed hearing it! A few days ago Girls on Film contacted me wanting to be included in this week's Sippin' Saturdays focus on indie artists! I love that this female group is all about style and is a blend of new wave, dance tracks, 80's pop. It's quite a combination and a lot of fun to listen to as well. I am sad to hear that they don't tour a lot up here but if you're in Florida, you stand a very good chance at hearing them sing! One of my favorite songs, is Distressed. Very fun song and you can click to hear a snippet. It definitely gets you moving and it iPod worthy as well. Check out the various CD's they have released and their site as well!

Sippin' Saturdays ~ I Love Rachael Sage's Vertigo

LISTEN ~ VERTIGO

If you have known me since I have been out in the East Coast, you know that I began working in music and of course with those that were indie's. I have always had a passion for this and although I have spent a large time of my years here in fashion, I never lost site of that other portion of my creative side. The original Kitten Lounge that started years ago, was an Internet radio show that blended my love for music with fashion tips for 6 seasons. When I launched Kitten Lounge in the blog form, I wanted it to be a great platform for fashion, entertainment, food and so much more. Sippin Saturdays has now completed yet another element of my vision for Kitten Lounge, performing artists! Each Saturday you will find who I think is amazing on these posts with links to find out more information about them. In addition, keep your eyes on the sidebar to see which artists I have on my iPod as well so that you can add to your Kitten Playlist!

Rachael Sage released Chandelier after the success of 8 previous solo albums, on June 10th, 2008. With a fanbase that's continues to grow, I was very interested in getting introduced to her sound and vibe. Currently, Vertigo is available as a free download and I have to say that within the first bars of the song, I was hooked! Rachael Sage is an NYC artist whose newest CD is self-produced and is billed as a mix of Torri Amos, Ingrid Michaelson, Sara Bareilles and Alanis Morissette to name a few. I have to say that she even reminded me of the She as in She and Him and also had elements of Kate Nash. I love that she is a great blend of rock, pop and folk sound that is easy on the ear; moreover, listening to her lyrics she has the ability to talk about life's bumps along the way without depressing her listeners. Take some time to check out Rachael Sage and to get acquainted with her previous albums. Sign up on her email list as well and I also suggest to look at the video for Vertigo as well! To kick off our music segments, we will have a giveaway that includes 2 Rachael Sage Gift Packs which include her current CD and also Blistering Sun in addition to a lot of other goodies. We will kick this off in the next few days - stay tuned for details.

Sippin' Saturdays ~ Enjoy This Salad With a Little Rum

So with one of the biggest holidays coming up, all I can think about is what would be an amazing sweet treat to have as a compliment to an amazing Crawfish dinner! Well I had to visit Cocktail Times -  now I know that many of you may know of it as a place to go to figure out amazing drinks; however, it is a great source to find meals that you can cook which incorporates alcohol as well. I came upon this Watermelon Hawaiian Salad that looks decadent, easy and really good. It definitely seems easy to prepare and uses coconut rum as well as various tasty fruits and can you beat presentation as you bring this out on a platter or you have them out on a nice sheet of sorts?

Watermelon Hawaiian Pina Salad
Ingredients: (Serves 8 to 12)
1 oz coconut rum
1 cup macadamia nuts
2 bananas
1 small papaya
Juice from 4 fresh limes
3 cups seedless watermelon balls or small squares
2 cups fresh pineapple chunks
1 cup freshly grated or unsweetened coconut
3 cups low-fat vanilla flavored yogurt
1/3 cup papaya seeds

Place the macadamia nuts in a food processor fitted with a steel blade and pulse them a couple of times just to chop them into large pieces. Then, place them in a non-stick heavy sautŽ pan and toast them over medium heat just until they turn golden, stirring constantly. Remove them to a heatproof dish or bowl and allow them to cool.

Peel and cut the bananas and papaya flesh into small chunks and toss them in the lime juice. Place the banana and the papaya chunks in a large glass bowl with the watermelon, pineapple and coconut. In another bowl mix together the yogurt and the papaya seeds. Pour over the fruit and coconut. Toss to combine. Place in a serving bowl or coconut shells. Sprinkle the toasted macadamia nuts over the top and serve immediately.

Sippin' Saturdays ~ What Is Your Summer Beverage

The summer is coming to an end and as you consider doing your last vacations, rooftop functions, etc - you want to bring the best of the summer with you. In many ways, the drink you serve shows that you know the trendiest drink of the summer or what your classic drink is. Either way you have had weeks to try your hand at serving or sampling various drinks and I want to know which is the most refreshing drink! If you have yet to try these, you may want to make some up and see which ones are best for you.

The Gin Splash combines White Cranberry, Peach Juice and Gin. I have to say that this beverage is my favorite and you'll be able to try this and all the other recipes listed for yourself!

The Black Orchid Grey Goose L'orange Vodka, Creme de Violette and various bitters.

Finally, the Southern Cider Pitcher combines Southern Comfort, Ginger Ale and Tea. Check out all of these recipes which are available on Cocktail Times.com.

Sippin' Saturdays ~ Revamping All Around

Kitten_lounge_logoI love when you begin working on a new project! Yes it is a lot of hard work but when you think about what it means in terms of the enjoyment and long term effects, you stop thinking about how long it will be. Well last night, I attended an event that reminded me that I would have to find time to do something that I don't know how I will find the time, but it is well worth it. Although I can't reveal details this second, know that you will be able to enjoy many of the things that you have come to enjoy about this site and it will be enhanced! Kudos to Golf Girl who turned my attention to this fun site where you can play a game of words and it makes a nice little arrangement of selected words whether it is your feed, words you chose (as I did) or more. Take some time to visit the galleries and to find out a lot more about Wordle.

Sippin' Saturdays ~ The Perfect Mojito

RmI remember when I tried my first Mojito and I thought that I had found my signature drink. Oh fickled taste buds, the love affair didn't last. Somehow I returned to my Gin and Tonic and wondered if I would find a signature drink that I wouldn't stray from. Well, this weekend, I will try to make Raspberry Mojitos which may in fact be my drink for the summer and hopefully a hit at many housewarmings, game nights and more. I am always excited to try something new and this drink recipe and many others, are available on Cocktail Times which is my go to place for the best drinks and meals that you would want to incorporate into a future function! So if this drink doesn't hit the spot, there are plenty of other ones that you will love making as you begin to play bartender! I love that this recipe is simple and that there are so many fresh ingredients as well.

Raspberry Mojito Pitcher
Ingredients:
- 6 oz Cruzan light rum
- 4 oz Rock Candy Syrup (or simple syrup)
- 6 lime halves
- handful of raspberries
- 30 - 40 sprigs of fresh mint leaves
- club soda

Build in mixing pitcher. Press 6 lime halves and simple syrup. Add rum, mint leaves, raspberries, crush, fill with ice. Stir and top with club soda.

Sippin' Saturdays ~ Lychee is Back on PinkBerry Woohoo

LycheeWe take this break from the Mercedes-Benz Miami Swim Fashion Week to suggest that there is only one thing that this event is missing and that is yummie Pinkberry and hello, Lychee is back! I never knew they had it but being a purist, I never have any toppings on my Green Tea Pinkberry but this weekend, I will enjoy having Lychee which is one of my favorite fruits to enjoy. Now if I was at the runway shows I would love to see Poko Pano's show on Mon with a cup of Pinkberry in my hand, I do believe that it would make my experience complete and absolutely tasty as well! If you're in NYC this weekend, you know where you may find me (my fave one is by my wing place with amazing pint specials) - of course when I am heading on the train, there is one that I like to go to there as well to make my walk a little cooler! I don't really care about the health debate about Pinkberry or the Fro Yo wars that are going on, I'm a Pinkberry Girl (and yes still a Buttercup Girl as well).

Sippin' Saturdays ~ Who is The Most Fragrant?

Hc Today we are taking a bit of a breather since the week has been so busy! So instead of mentioning great places to get a drink or a way to make a new one, we want you to relax a bit and have something a little fragrant that you can enjoy in whichever way you decide to spend today! With notes of White Tea and Pink Peppercorn, there are definitely sweet smells to be had with the Hard Candy Fragrance and because of this, it was a natural choice in terms of our weeklong giveaway where 4 lucky winners will get to try this out for their very own!

Congratulations Dorian, Kam, Jennae and Michelle! I will definitely contact you individually but loved hearing about your favorite scents. It's amazing how many we go through and which ones we love no matter what. With that being said, I hope this is one that you will make a fave in your cabinets!

Sippin' Saturdays: Plum Wine

Fuki_plumOne weekend my boyfriend and I went out to a really good sushi restaurant in Long Beach and I happened to order a plum wine. I did it because it sounded really good and as much as I love Sake, I wasn't really interested in having it. I loved how sweet and smooth it was! Later on that weekend when we made dinner, we bought Sake and Plum Wine, intending to have it together as a Bonsai. We ended up just drinking the Plum Wine and more specifically, we had selected Fu-Ki Plum. Now I am truly hooked on plum wine and although I have had it with Sake, I prefer to drink it alone. The other weekend we went to Sushi House in Hoboken and I had their Plum Wine - so it is confirmed that this is something that I do enjoy having even when I'm not eating it with sushi or fish. It is absolutely refreshing and I think that it works well with all seasons which is very important as well. I look forward to trying the different kinds and seeing the ways that it can be mixed together.

Sippin' Saturdays ~ Patriotic Tea

AmericanteaCan you believe that June is almost over? Fourth of July is days away and so you have to think about what you're doing, what party you will plan and more. Well here is a drink that you could make for your guests during your party - American Patriotic Tea! I love that this recipe on Cocktail Times is one that you can modify with a variety of flavors! If you love this recipe, you'll have to visit the site to find a lot more that would work with a number of dinners, events and more that you'll host! For me, I would add raspberry liquer in this as well as I think that that would be a refreshing flavor. I think even adding in a molasses taste would be nice as well. So definitely try it like this and then let your creativity kick in!

AMERICAN PATRIOTIC TEA RECIPE

Ingredients:

- 4 cups water

- 1/2 cup sugar

- 8 black tea bags

- 1 lemon, cut into 8 wedges

- 1/2 cup fresh mint leaves

- 2 cups American Honey liqueur

In a large saucepan, boil 4 cups water. Add 1/2 cup sugar; stir to dissolve. Remove from heat; add 8 teabags of black tea. Steep 10 minutes; discard teabags. Add 4 cups cold water; transfer to pitcher and chill. Mash or muddle lemon wedges and add to pitcher. Add 1/2 cup fresh mint leaves. Using a wooden spoon, crush mint until fragrant. Stir in 2 cups of American Honey liqueur. Serve over ice.

Sippin' Saturdays ~ Yoga in Times Square

Soy3I hope everyone takes some time to check out Solstice in Times Square brought to you by SoyJoy! What a great way to ring in the summer at the center of Times Square! I will not be able to attend this; however, I know that many people will be able to join this event. In addition to having SoyJoy as a prime participant, the Times Square Alliance has also brought this amazing event! I really love the idea and can't wait to post the video of seeing Times Square getting a little relaxing love with so many yogis in the area! I love that this will be offered throughout the day and you will also be able to see the participating studios as well! Bring a friend and some comfortable clothes to enjoy this event. Visit the Times Square Alliance site to see the schedule and what you will be attending!

Soy2 In addition, I would also check out SoyJoy to see the amazing bars that are great to eat throughout the day. Not only are they tasty but they are perfect to have when you need to get a tasty snack! With so many great flavors, you're bound to have more than one that you'll find yourself nibbling on! I think that the site is super cute and just as a means to relax, you'll love opening the site and seeing the cute parade of bars and the bunny walking across your screen!
Soy1
If you ended up attending this event, please leave your comments and let me know what I missed! I look forward to hearing and if you take yoga in NYC, let me know as I am looking for a facility that I can go to as I am still searching for the perfect studio! I will also check out the list so I am excited to see your comments!

Sippin' Saturdays: Mango Margaritas

Mangomargeritas_lgLast weekend while I was up at a lake house with my boyfriend and additional couples, one of them mentioned that they wanted to make daiquiris. I had forgotten how much I loved the refreshing beverage and since my boyfriend and I are taking some down time this weekend (ie not looking at more condos), we are going to cook dinner and I think we are going to make Mango Margaritas which is probably my favorite drink to have when you are talking about these kinds of drinks. I also love that they are easy to make so all skill levels should be ok! Also with the basic ingredients provided, you can make one that is to your liking in terms of flavors as most people can't agree on what they want for the next round! But regardless of what you choose, this recipe is not only quick but begs to have you tweak it so that you can make it your own every time people come over to have it!

Mango Margaritas
- 2 Cups of Bottled Margarita Mixers
- 1/2 Mango Diced
- 1/2 Cup Rum
- 5 Cups Ice
- Mango or Lime for Garnish
* Blend everything
* Add ice and continue to blend 45 - 60 seconds or until desired consistency
*Garnish

Sippin' Saturdays ~ When it's Hot You Need to Hydrate

Snapplewater_smSo last weekend we were hot and sweaty during the Snapple Big Apple BBQ Fest. We were settling down to sampling and we wanted to get something to drink and one of the booths we were at had run out of regular Snapple Tea and at first, could only offer diet. Since neither of us were fans, she did say that they had Snapple Antioxidant Water. At the time I was fine with it but when we sat down I wondered if I would like this as much as my Vitamin Water but with the heat - who could second guess cold liquid? Interestingly enough we had the Agave Melon drink that is on the far right and we enjoyed it a lot. I know that a lot of people talk about how much sugar is in these drinks and honestly I have never really checked but I love how refreshing and colorful they are and I am actually going to try each flavor. When it's hot out and you have been consuming normal water throughout the day and you don't feel like or may be unable to consume a frosty libation, this should be a great option to try out!

Sippin' Saturdays ~ Big Apple BBQ Festival

Today was hot and absolutely amazing! Today I started early in the afternoon at the Big Apple BBQ Fest which took place in Madison Park today and tomorrow! Not only was it hot but it was a lot of fun to see food, music, hear seminars and to hear happy people getting excited about BBQ. I have to say that I was a BBQ novice but after a recent visit to Dinosaur BBQ in Harlem, I had a renewed respect (yes how does a Midwestern girl not get into BBQ until a late age - I don't know but I am definitely interested and got a lot of information). After picking up my press passes (thanks Katy) I went to the seminars first. Sponsored by Snapple and Every Day With Rachael Ray, I really wanted to see what was going on and sit in on a few demos if possible. I had the luxury of making it in to my first cooking demo "On the Side". This was lead by two Food Editors of my favorite magazine - Every Day with Rachael Ray. Pamela Mitchell and Teri Tsang Barrett shared interesting sides that you can include on your barbecue which are just as important as the main attraction! I came in right when they handed out the amazing golden sweet tea and I also sampled the hush puppies that I hadn't had in quite some time. This video clip includes the segment about the hush puppies. Teri is on the right and Pamela is on the left! These ladies were a lot of fun to listen to and was a great way to introduce me to my day!
