Kitten Lounge's Holiday Gift Guide launched yesterday and we will continue to have additional brands included over the next few weeks as this will be up through Jan 15th of 2010! Of course our spread includes just a few of the goodies that are on the site including Ted Rossi, Purple Lab NYC and our sponsor, Tasty Morsels Bakery! Continue to check back as we will not only have additional items but this is a great way to begin thinking about what gifts you can get to cross it off your list! Not only is this a guide that focuses on gifting but it includes events as well that you'll want to know more about as well as restaurants and information for New Years Eve!
We're in our 3rd year of this guide and we also have a fun component known as the 25 Days of Holiday Glam. This segment kicks of Dec 1st through Dec 25th. There will be giveaways each of these days that you can win and is a way to not only introduce you to a fab brand and item but to also say thank you as well! This will be apart of the Holiday Gift Guide and also as a separate post within the main site. Although both of these items have been apart of the Holiday Gift Guide, we're adding in something new. We will include 12 Stars on the Horizon. These are individuals that work in the fashion industry (or are associated) that are either establihed or emerging people that you will want to know about. They work in the industry and defintiely deserve to be recognized as they do amazing work which you may need for future use! This will kick off Dec 20th and run through New Years Eve as a countdown of sorts!
Who wouldn't love an afternoon of tea and mingling with other people in their industry? I knew that it would be a fun event and yet one that would require me to continue thinking about everything that took place. As you guys may remember from my last event at Purple Lab NYC, even with a few days in between the event and when I wrote about it on the site - I was still in awe. As I headed to the Norwood Club, a members only Country Club whose requirement is that you must be affiliated with the arts, I was struck with how much you can go the same place and not realize that there is more to what you see and what you know. I was a little shocked that this area of 14th street housed this awesome oasis! The memory of the gorgeous townhouse, the art, dining rooms etc is still in my mind and of course I want to be a member. Although the backdrop of the event was fabulous, I was there for something more.
Of course the tea kicked off with the Creatrix of Purple Lab NYC, Karen Robinovitz welcomed us and introduced an amazing line up of women! We learned about Triple Negative Breast Cancer and how it affected Nancy and her friends, moms who came together for playdates, put their resources and concern together to beseech the medical community to share notes on this disease in order to save women who were affected. Although Nancy passed away, I was encouraged that these women continue to fight and make their voices heard so that other woman can benefit. Nancy's favorite color was pink and to see her gorgeous daughter who was 7 wearing the cutest little prep school outfit with her pink nails, was inspiring.
From learning about the foundation and its impact, we saw a clip of "Why I Wore Lipstick to My Mastectomy". I remember seeing this movie on Lifetime a few years ago but had never read the book. As the clip came to an end I literally (and those who know I'm obsessed with Audrey Hepburn and Elizabeth Taylor will understand) looked over and saw a modern version of Elizabeth Taylor. With a simple classic dress, stunning earrings she was flawless and yes Geralyn Lucas was the author who wrote about her choice to wear red lipstick. I was so struck by her courage, frank nature and good sense of humor. I love the fact that she read from the book and also talked to us as well. Being able to be toured around Norwood was also amazing and gave me an opportunity to chat with her and to get a sense of who she was as a person.
It's difficult to convey all the moments that took place from being able to reconnect with my fellow bloggers, finally meet others that I have enjoyed reading for years and of course, to see everyone getting excited about the cookies that were included within the gift bag by none other than Crystal Horton of Tasty Morsels Bakery. As we all looked through our goodie bag, we all received Purple Lab NYC's SWAC (Sealed With a Cure) gloss in Nancy. Not only is it a gorgeous shade of pink with little specks of shimmer in it but it has all the elements that are perfect to keep your lips moisturized, there's a refreshing vanilla flavour - you feel like you can't put it on enough! In addition a percentage of the sales of this product go towards the Triple Negative Breast Cancer Foundation. In addition, we received a little card that gave us a challenge. As you'll learn in my video, Geralyn (check out her site to learn more about the book, movie, The Lipstick Train, The Booby Mafia and so much more) had a theory about red lipstick and my challenge was "Be and look fabulous while vacuuming". As is very typical I tweaked my challenge and shared some additional thoughts (yes I'm obsessed with my lounge wear as much as I am with my daywear! To answer your questions, I'm wearing Daddy's Favorite an amazing line that I found out about while in Vegas at the Curve Show!). Enjoy the video!
I guess life does have cycles. We do everything in stages only to race to a finish line. We spend 18 years to get good grades and to figure out where we end up in terms of who finished where within their class and we focus on getting into that school to do our race all over again but for shorter periods of time. This race ends and some continue on their education track while others dive into a career and yet there are many detours, stops and starts along the way but we're all on our grind hustling and trying to figure out where we're going. There's no rule book to success but the more you're out there, you're bound to get it. But where do we need to be and what is the holy grail of "it"? It can be a little daunting and at the age of 30 I find myself saying what is it that I want and how to reorganize some of my priorities as I need to make sure that I am taking care of myself. Taking care of myself does mean staying fit, eating right etc but it's to also remember that I am a multi-faceted person with various needs. Your body knows what it wants if you listen.
I had heard about S Factor from the beginning of me coming to NY but it took until earlier this year for me to go to an open house that Crystal at Tasty Morsels Bakery participated in at S Factor for me to see a demo that kept me in awe. To have the body control to do the amazing tricks that were done on the pole was definitely a mind bender and it was a few days later that I took the intro class. I love challenging exercises that stimulate the body and the mind and I had nothing but positive things to report on this site but life is interesting. A person can do the same activity within months of each other and gain a completely different experience. Fast forward to about 6 months or so later and I find myself with various colleagues within the blogging community at an Editors S Factor session (complete w 6" stilettos). The person sitting in this session is someone that has had a lot of personal growth over the past few months and not only realizes that she is closer to what she wants but wants more personal fulfillment as well. I want to know more about me and to hear me and today's session does just that.
Our S Factor session combined yoga, pole dancing and a dance routine while encouraging that hearing yourself is an essential tool to your growth within the various courses (they run 8 weeks but there are 6 levels and unlike most classes where the conclusion of all steps have a finality, you're able to continue to grow). Jill was one of our teachers (I was fortunate to have her as my teacher in a previous introductory course) and she is a power ball of energy, understanding and sisterhood. To be able to slow down is something that I have been thinking a lot more of and it has been something that fellow Editor, Keren has been telling me and all of us via her Project Detox series. Did I wake up feeling sore (absolutely - you have a lot of ab and lower back work to do all of the sensual things that you do in class) but did I feel empowered with the idea of working within a women's only studio and to hear nothing but positive affirmations? Absolutely. For those of us that work to do the impossible whether it's within our family, career goals, etc - we need to get out our emotions and to realize that beyond being fearless trailblazers, we are still women who have sensuality, femininity and qualities that set us apart not only from men but other women as we are individuals. I can't wait to start taking courses as a student and to create a sense of balance and to get in touch with areas that I may not focus on in my day to day but can within a 2 hour session. Whether you're doing a full on course, an express, focusing on lap dances and more - you're bound to find something that speaks to you. If you're interested in finding out about S Factor and your S, from now through Dec 1st of 2009, you can contact your local S Factor (they're in CA, IL, NY and TX) and use the code kitten09 to get 50% off of your introductory class.
Oh boy today was a long day! Today will be the beginning of various photoshoots that I will be working on to update some images and to get prepped for amazing things that are going on around the site! Crystal and I of Tasty Morsels Bakery will be running around one of my favorite places, the Roger Smith Hotel to make it happen. So instead of sleeping in this morning, I was out there making things happen! It was great to run into Brian and Niki and loved that we had quite the team working with us our fab photographer Manny and our stylist David! When the pictures are ready, I will make sure that you guys see it!
Of course all this running around tells me that I need to head to my fave nail salon Dashing Diva to get a full on manicure pedicure and then over to Townhouse Spa for a nice little massage. I love Dashing Diva as it is the all around girlie place! I tend to go on Thurs or Fri night because you can sip a nice cocktail while you have your sessions but I love this package. With so many locations, you're bound to find your favorite spot. Although I have never been to Townhouse, I'm super excited as I received a gift certificate so I'll let you know how this goes as well. Sometimes the weekend may not be entirely relaxing but that's why you get two days!
I love it! Today, I'm resting from an amazing night out last night and since this is the first Sun of the football season, it has been quite a relaxing day! I'm so excited that people came out last night for my birthday from @db, @mizcity, @bigapplestyle, @tasty_morsels, @emilyspearl and @devintrix, @jakrose, @nikisnotes, @santagati and of course my non Twitter friends (meaning those who aren't on Twitter) Keren, Tessa (hubby John) and Oscar! It was such an amazing night at Sutra and a great way to ring in my birthday! For those who couldn't make it, you were there in spirit; however, one of my fave presents came from Crystal, founder of Tasty Morsels Bakery - check out the cookies and the one that looks like me!!! This is the best cookie ever!
You know that beyond talking fashion, I love keeping you updated on what's going on with my friends who are in the industry! Tasty Morsels Bakery has had a lot of success this past year and the year isn't even over! I feel so fortunate that in many ways, when founder and cookie baker extraordinaire, Crystal Horton and I had a chance to sit down and really learn about one another that I was able to learn about her business from the beginning. Since then, I've seen the cookies appear in the goodie bag for the Brooklyn Cancer Society's Pink and Black Tie Gala hosted by Stacy London, she was apart of Bust's Craftacular in Brooklyn and she was one of the personalities that appeared on the episode of the web based reality show, To Be a Star where she served as one of my friends in the industry who sat with some of the aspiring models in the show due to them winning this time with us.
Of course it was this same day that we bumped into @Aronado after we had finished shooting and somehow the three of us came up with the idea that he should interview her on his show StartUp Lucky which talks with those starting up their own businesses. Crystal is not only someone who has combined her love of fashion and baking but she's also done something that I'm super proud of. She has embraced Social Media and although she is learning the ropes and treading carefully, I love the fact that she is integrating this into her plans! You all know that I'm a huge advocate and I love that you'll see her out there sending tweets via @Tasty_Morsels Bakery. Watch this interview where @Aronado does what he does best - chatting it up and of course, I'm also throwing in my two cents as I play co-host! It was such a good time and if you have yet to enjoy her cookies, your holiday isn't complete without having them and since we have just signed off from summer - we're definitely in fall/holiday mode which is perfect for gifting! Of course you can always check out my friends and more by following me @Cocoabebe.
We're having our second annual Lobster Broil at the condo and I'm super excited as it's nice to have it in October but it's much more fun when it's in June! I just got our invitations which are a mix of lobster and Madras shorts - images to follow soon! But more importantly, there are so many things to get when you're hosting a party that goes throughout the day and will have around 30 people there. The main event is lobster so here I have some of the essentials, the pot, lobster crackers (Crate & Barrel is such a must when you're having a gathering) and the lobster forks. Of course, Crystal of Tasty Morsels Bakery is not only coming but is supplying these cookies which are the cutest things ever! So glad that she's bringing them so that everyone can see how much of a hit they are!!! Whatever you're doing, make sure you have a theme and you stay true it. In addition, plan as much as you can in advance to guarantee that you get the most people possible for your event!
The past two weeks have been a blur; however, unlike my normal running around, it's awesome to know that you have someone else who is running a strong race even if you're not doing the same thing! So as you know, I obviously run this site and I am also a jewelry designer of my own line, Kitten Couture (and yes I assist companies in establishing their place within Social Media) and my friend Crystal (who is on the right of the pictures obviously) is the founder and cookie designer of Tasty Morsels Bakery. I feel like we have done so many events and have had so much going on that we stay in contact via email/gchat; however, as we hung out at the Pink & Black Tie Gala hosted by Stacy London for the American Cancer Society in Brooklyn (I covered it and provided a piece for auction while Crystal made over 250 cookies for the goodie bag), we were able to just hang out to eat, drink and dance!
No matter how crazy your days are and no matter how many events you go to for whatever reason, whenever you have the chance, make sure that you go out there and enjoy it with someone when you can! It's amazing how it adds a different perspective and allows you to drink in the moment! I have spent the past few years seriously pushing and moving forward and I'm at the point now where it's fun to be invited somewhere to see familiar faces and of course to bring my friend as well! Always remember to take a moment and of course to do it fashionably - we work hard so that we can truly enjoy our accomplishments!
By the time you're reading this I'm probably on the subway heading to Brooklyn to help set up for one of many Tasty Morsels Bakery's events! We'll be at the Bust Magazine's Spring Fling Craftacular at The Warsaw in Williamsburg, NY. First of all, I'll be Twittering (@cocoabebe) all day from this event and also taking some footage which will find it's way to On the Radar later on in the evening! Come out to not only support all the hardworking indie vendors but my friend and founder of Tasty Morsels Bakery - Crystal Horton (@Tasty_Morsels). We will be sampling cookies and of course you can buy some to bring home to your friends as well!
I have attended and assisted many shopping events but this is definitely one that makes me really happy to be apart of it - so definitely don't be shy in saying hello. I'll give you info about this event of course and you'll have tons of pics to enjoy. I can't wait to see you there and look forward to saying howdy and with it only being a $2 admission, it's a fab way to spend the day! We'll be there from 12 - 7 and look forward to seeing you there.
Last Thursday I attended the American Cancer Society's Pink & Black Tie Gala which was hosted by Stacy London and held at Steinner Studios in Brooklyn. All I can say is what an amazing and inspiring event! I love the fact that there were so many items auctioned (I included a piece, Victory which was included from my jewelry line, Kitten Couture) and Crystal Horton of Tasty Morsels Bakery, included her amazing cookies within the goodie bag. Drinks continued to flow and I have to say that the appetizers during the cocktail hour were presented in amazing displays!
I loved seeing that many people who supported this event were not only survivors but current workers of ACS! Stacy London (whose video is posted above) had a moving speech that definitely held everyone's attention. I also loved hearing about the Hope Lodge in NYC (there are other locations within the country as well) which is a place that those who are going through cancer treatments and their families can stay without worrying about paying for temporary housing. Located near Penn Station, this is a great sense of community for them! At this event, I heard about 96 Magnolia which is also a place for those seeking wellness. It is meant to live green, live well and it's also a place for style for those that are fashion and interior designers by including their pieces. I definitely wanted to find out more about this and to assist in fundraising! By the end of the night, over $175,000 was raised! What an amazing night to bring awareness to the fight against cancer, research and funding and finally giving Brooklyn much deserved love!
It's GORGEOUS out in NY and I already have my cocktail plans for tonight and yet I'm not quite sure about lunch! But what I do know is that I am super excited that with May on the way, one of my biggest events this summer is the American Cancer Society's Pink & Black Tie Gala which will be held at Steinner Studios in Brooklyn. I love that it supports an amazing cause and many people in the fashion, music and entertainment communities are coming together to raise funds for the continual support and research of a plethora of diseases that have affected people. Now, I am excited that I will be donating a new lariat necklace from my line, Kitten Couture (pictures to follow in another post) and that my friend and Brooklyn resident, Crystal Horton, will be supplying cookies from Tasty Morsels Bakery for the goodie bag - which is definitely a treat!
In addition, there are additional auctions such as a swim clinic with Michael Phelps, a Vespa and a Private Customized Tour for Six at the Bronx Zoo. These are just some of the items that have been updated recently and people continue to support whether they are including something to be auctioned or something that will be in one of the many goodie bags. Stacy London of What Not to Wear will be hosting and the entire event will feature local entertainment as well. I love that this Pink and Black theme will be amazing to see in person! I can't wait to see how people incorporate these colors into their color schemes and tickets are still available for this event at $250 - you'll enjoy an amazing dinner, meeting others who are committed to the cause and of course it's a night of dancing as well. I will cover the event and continue to share information with you in addition to Twittering live from the event as well!
On May 7th, Brooklyn will have a huge event that I am very excited about! The American Cancer Society will put on a gala to increase the awareness of cancer. This star studded event will be hosted by TLC's "What Not To Wear", Stacy London! In addition, the attire is pink and black! I think that this will be a fashionable event and one with a very strong message - all efforts will go towards raising funds for cancer research, education/adcovacy programs and services for cancer patients and their families. This event will have silent auctions (Kitten Couture, my jewelry line will have a piece created exclusively for this event), along with many others. If you're a designer and are interested in including your items, please contact me so that I can get you in touch with the amazing organizers of the ACS! In addition, there will be goodie bags and Crystal Horton, Brooklyn based cookie baker will include Tasty Morsels Bakery items which is very exciting.
On May 7th at Stage 6 at Steiner Studios the "Brooklyn Rocks" theme will include music, fashion and so much more. If you're interested in tickets, make sure that you visit the site so that you can be apart of the Pink and Black Tie Gala. Kitten Lounge is committed to keeping you up to date on what's going on as we will continue to provide additional information and to cover the event as well so definitely check back with us as well!
Last night I enjoyed a fun evening at S Factor which was an open house/3 year birthday party. This is the infamous studio where you do pole dancing classes! I have to say that watching the demonstration made me want to join this class! This is a great way to stay fit, enjoy your body and of course to just enjoy having fun. I love the fact that it's an all women's group and really feel that it is an amazing opportunity if you have the chance to join. I have yet to join but think that I will try an introductory class without a doubt (thank you to those who showed me a few things - it was a lot of fun).
In addition to last night's event, there was a debut of Tasty Morsels Bakery which had the cutest cookies for this event. Since this was for S Factor, the cookies had corsets, frilly panties, lips and more. When I get these images, I will definitely let you guys know and update this post. Until then, if you are looking for tasty cookies with a great flavor and that can be customized, this is the bakery for you! It's perfect for events, corporate and anything else that you can imagine! The owner of this Brooklyn based bakery, Crystal Horton, is an artist which lends to the amazing creativity that she can do with her cookies! So, think about S Factor if you're in NYC and regardless of where you are, Tasty Morsels Bakery is the best place for you to find your sweet needs!
I am so excited that tomorrow I will be attending an open house for the S Factor! This is the infamous pole dancing classes which not allow you to feel great about yourself but that you also can look great as well. I have been thinking about taking this class for awhile in Chelsea; however, I was completely motivated when I realized that a friend of mine was participating with her cookies! For those of you that will be at tomorrow's S Factor, you will also enjoy Tasty Morsels Bakery which has cookies that look like little pieces of art! I am so excited for her and hope that others will love them as well! Hopefully I will see you tomorrow at the S Factor at 235 West 23rd St NY, NY!
We love hearing from you! Suggestions, ideas and thoughts are always welcome.
Please send all food related questions to Paul, spa and wellness items to Keren and all other queries to Kimmie.
