Trendy Thursdays ~ Hair Travel

I travel a lot and many times, when I land, by the time I get through customs, the airport etc I am scheduled to be somewhere with just a smidge of time to get in my room, unpack everything to perfection, hop into the shower and to get out of my travel clothes. I need my go to looks no matter what and to ensure that I look fab. Just like I have go to outfits, I love go to items that allow me to quickly get through getting ready while having many of the items that I use at home. Hair is much more then prepping it when you're about to head out the door. It's one of those items that you have to infuse (whatever your treatment routine is). I have to say that I love Ted Gibson as he has a phenom system of products that you can use whether you have been to his salon or haven't. I'm a huge fan of his shampoos which are perfect for whatever color you're rocking as there is one that is available for red heads, brunettes and blondes! In this particular Ted Gibson Travel Essential Kit, this is for the jetsetter who wants to ensure that the care you receive at home continues when you're out and about to wherever your destination will take you! It includes 2 oz travel sizes (TSA friendly) of daily cleanse ®, daily nourish®, beautiful hold® and 3 hairsheet styling® sheets. In addition to this kit, I'm loving that I recently became introduced to Shea Butter Curl Oils by Alaffia which is available in various textures and scents - this is perfect for those that rock waves and curls! Regardless of your texture, these oils hydrate and soften strands, strengthen hair and fight split ends, adds shine, improves scalp health and there are no harsh or heavy ingredients. This multipurpose solution allows you to put it directly on hair whether it is wet or dry and then you can also use it as a scalp conditioner which is always nice to do to ensure the health of your hair. Fine Hair can enjoy Shea Butter & Rosemary Shining Curl Oil, Thick Dry or Coarse Hair can use Shea Butter & Coconut Hydrating Curl Oil and Baby Curls/Chemically Treated Hair can have Shea Butter & Neem Nourishing Curl Oil.

In addition to nurturing your hair, like any look, hair loves to be accessorized. The trend over the past few seasons within 2011 has been a mix of boho chic style which allows hair to be loose and just do its own thing; however, ensuring that your hair is pulled away from your face whether it's a clip or ponytail is important too! I love the feather trend as it's an unexpected pop of something. I also love Dauphines of New York's the One Headband which can be worn with your hair down Grecian style or pulled back to allow that bun to have a new life! Whatever you do, your hair is the highlight and one of the first things that your eyes are drawn to - so definitely ensure that you have what you need.

NY Fashion Week F/W 2011: Mingling Mondays ~ Carmen Marc Valvo

Once again, Carmen Marc Valvo returned to the NASDAQ building to inspire us with more chic looks for the lady who lunches, heads out to the opera and simply wants to look amazing no matter what! Ever since last season, I have become much more of a fan as his pieces are very Jackie O! There are so many details and feminine touches that any piece within this collection would find your wardrobe as the perfect closet to join! Above are favorite images of this show with hair done by Ted Gibson who of course created this whimsical/wind blown look!

NY Fashion Week F/W 2011: Mingling Mondays ~ Lela Rose

This fall, Lela Rose, presents a line that is whimsical but full of dramatic elements! As I hit backstage, I loved that Ted Gibson's team was hard at work (Ted was at the Grammy's doing hair last night) creating old world Hollywood glam with that perfect mix of manicured hair while also having a bit of that messy quality that is so hard to achieve together. Stila ensured that the models looked fabulous with their bold dramatic colors and of course, the manis that the models rocked was a fun very dark green color with a hint of black by Deborah Lippman, known as Billionaire (you know that I am a fan of Zoya's Indigo so this caught my eye for sure).

NY Fashion Week F/W 2011: Fashionable Fridays ~ Vena Cava

The fab duo at Vena Cava embraced the 90's and brought it to the runways yesterday morning at Milk Studios. For all of the movies (Reality Bites was one of my faves) that we watched during this time, the duo went for the early nineties. They wanted a look that worked well for the working girl of today. While the designers were inspired by the 90's. MAC Make Up Artist Christian McCullough embraced the 70's and 80's and went high glam thinking of his muse, Joan Collins. This glam look definitely put a twist on the collection and of course, hair was done by none other than Celebrity Stylist, Ted Gibson, who was inspired by Christina Turlington and 90's grunge! As always here are two of my favorite looks from this show.

NY Fasion Week F/W 2011: Trendy Thursdays ~ Day 1 Schedule

It seems like it was only the other day that I was hitting the runways, presentations, after parties and backstages of NY Fashion Week this past Sept. Although the weather is much colder then the previous, I still get the little flutters of seeing the collections, friends and so much more. Today I return to Lincoln Center to enter the chaos and to fall in love all over again. As usual the following day will always showcase the previous day's shows and events. As you read this, I'm heading into my first backstage but I can let you know what you can expect for tomorrow. If you can't wait, follow my tweets @cocoabebe as well as @KittenLounge and of course enjoy searching through a number of tweets that will use the hashtags #nyfw as well as #MediaMavens where all the personalities will be typing away and these are in real time! Each day you can see my 2 key looks and how they would be accessorized. Throughout the next 9 day of shows, you'll also see sponsored tweets as well as posts so keep an eye out for those. I'm looking forward to an amazing season which will be shared via video, posts, images and so much more!

Tonight there are two amazing ways you can be apart of the fun on the first day of Kitten Lounge's coverage on the Fall Winter 2011 NY Fashion Week season in addition to reading our tweets! If you're familiar with Robert Verdi, throughout the year he has a tweet up where bloggers come together and share with you fun products that you'll want to know more about. During Fashion Week he allows bloggers to enjoy his space to refuel as well as to learn about a number of brands.Tune in tonight at 5:30pm to see what he is talking about live via streaming video and find out how you can win what we're definitely loving right now during his Robert Verdi Fashion Week Twitter Party which will also include a number of bloggers including me! Submit your styletips to @RobertVerdi and tag them with #RVFW and you can get in on on the fun Fashion Week Giveaways! You can follow all of our tweets for this event via the hashtag #RVFW as well.

If you've always wanted to see the shows and wondered how you can get access, Richie Rich will be at the Hammerstein Ballroom at the Manhattan Center tonight with his runway presentation "Villionaire by Richie Rich". You can purchase tickets to this event as proceeds will go to DoSomething.org and CookiesForKidsCancer.org. He will kick off his show at 9pm with performances by Harlem James Gang (John Legend is his producer) and DJ Chachi. A number of fun surprises (as always) will be apart of this show but we can say that Johnny Weir and Tinsley Mortimer will be apart of it. It's a great way to see a show and designer that never ceases to pull out all the stops while supporting others! We'll let you know about it tomorrow but, if you're in the area, you can check it out too! Below is a Kitten Lounge recap of the highlights of our first day of events.

Today Kitten Lounge Attends:

Trendy Thursdays ~ Koh Gen Do Wakes Me Up Each Morning

Koh Gen Do is a brand that I'm super excited to wake up to each morning. Yes it's a makeup line but it is a phenomenal skincare line that keeps my face dewy! I've been talking about them for a couple of years but with so much activity (Fashion Week, Coterie, etc) it seems that I have to say that this line keeps my face looking amazing! Yes I can chalk it up to good genes but I'm out a lot! In fact I do a lot of events, don't sleep as much as I should etc so it's nice to have a line that has so many natural elements in it that make me look like I just left the most amazing spa! In fact, I only go to spas for massages and body treatments. Anything that I do for my face involves treatments at home! Thanks to Barneys, I love that you too can enjoy the amazing treatments.

I'm obsessed with their soap as I can place it in the mesh and after rubbing it you get a nice foam which is perfect to use on your face (of course I highly suggest the Spa Water with the Organic Cotton Pads they're amazing and super easy to use). After drying off, I love using their Essence lotion and or their Emollient Cream. It leaves your face looking clean, fresh and of course looking as if you're ready for your photoshoot. If you're here in NYC, you should definitely check the line out in Barneys or on their website of course! I also love that when I was at the Carmen Marc Valvo show during NY Fashion Week hanging out backstage watching Ted Gibson's team do what they do best - I love that I happened to bump into Diane, the founder of this fab beauty line! It was great to chat with her and to hang out which is why I love Fashion Week as you never know who you're going to run into!

Mingling Mondays: Day 4 Spring 2011 ~ Carmen Marc Valvo & NASDAQ

Carmen Marc Valvo Spring 2011 -Runway

Yesterday was the day of shows that were on point! To this point, this season I have seen shows at Milk Studios (Meat Packing District), Lincoln Center (UWS) and down in Chelsea - but how about a show that takes place in the NASDAQ building in Times Square and is streamed live on the huge TVs outside!?! As I headed into the building, you definitely felt that this was a finance building and interestingly enough you had to walk through metal detectors, place your bag in the scanner to check for who knows what and the elevator was in a cylindrical glass area. That was definitely interesting but once we got to the second floor, it was like any other show I was about to attend - almost. Since this space is an office building, the 2nd floor allows you to look over the railings and see the lobby below and basically it's a catwalk and they lined chairs throughout the space so it was as if the models would float by as they walked!

Backstage, I saw Carmen Marc Valvo and just seeing the hues of the clothes - amazing! Ted Gibson and his team were there making the girls look beautiful with playful sophisticated chignons and the MAC team was there doing the makeup! I have to say that this season has been exciting to be able to come up close and personal with some of the industry leaders in their profession so after a quick hi to Ted (who rocks a jean jacket well mind you), I got to know Romero Jennings the MAC Makeup artist who is so zen it's ridiculous. The videos has him talking about the look, how all factors are considered when it comes to creating the look as well as having to be flexible. In addition, hear how the layout of the show had a lot to do with the look.

I have to note that Carmen Marc Valvo is a beautiful show but being there as we received champagne before the show started, seeing the accessories that were from MCM (love) and meeting the people - he gets it. Many of the attendees were friends, celebs etc but he also brought in people who buy his clothes. I'm sure many people do that; however, the crowd that attended this show was different from any other I have encountered and they seemed to have a huge connection with him and the line which was gorgeous! I have to say that when I'm hitting a red carpet, I would want to wear his line as there were elements of Audrey meets Jackie meets southern belle. As everyone said, he gets it!

Mingling Mondays: Day 4 Spring 2011 ~ Lela Rose

Lela Rose - Runway - Spring 2011 MBFW

You'll see that this show was definitely one of my favorites. My birthday was yesterday and although I was backstage at Lela Rose at 9am, this show set the tone for many of the amazing shows that I saw throughout the day. Being able to see Ted Gibson and his team work magic on the models was phenomenal yet again. I loved that in this show, Lela Rose was inspired by Peru and being out in the ocean and Ted conveyed this look with side swept, windblown braided hair - loved the look and it had such a romantic vibe. You felt that each girl had just gotten off a horse. The videos will show the looks being created with the hair and Ted actually speaks with me about the inspiration as well as finding out about his accessories (how can an Accessories Expert resist this).

The videos show the madness of backstage and Mary from Real Housewives DC was backstage (I've seen her quite a bit this Fashion Week as well as shows from yesterday - love her shoes), I got a moment to talk with Lela Rose herself and to hear about her shoe line that is sold at Payless (the ones that she is rocking - $39.95 and available)! In addition, there is footage of accessories laid out for the show, girls getting in their items and of course the final walk on the runway to close the show! Lots of goodies and it's a great way to see what I see when I am attending shows! I also loved meeting the Beauty.com team that was backstage! As always, my fave two looks!

Fashionable Fridays: Day 1 Spring 2011 ~ Kimmie's LOTD

I'm always asked about what I wear when I'm at the shows and each season it changes. I remember for Sept 2008, my New York Fashion Week was all about looking super glam and I actually wore Lauren Conrad's first line and it was heels everyday. Ah back when I was a Fashion Week newbie. This season I'm attending a lot of shows but I am also doing backstage coverage as well. So I still need to look fab but I never know what show I'm adding to my schedule and I will be in some tight spots so it needs to make sense. Each day I will give you my Look of the Day and let you know where I was. Above I'm with Jeannine Morris of Beauty Sweet Spot and Michelle Kelerakos of 5WPR at Milk Studios backstage at the Vena Cava show which had makeup by MAC and hair done by none other than Ted Gibson (see the post about it from earlier today). Also thank you to everyone who saw me in Betty Confidential's Bloggers We Love! I am honored that they love me and you can find out more about me as well as fab items for Fall by checking it out here! In addition find out how you can win the looks from APART that you see me talking about.

With fall setting in, I want something that is a bit warm but I can also move in. Like many covering the shows, the new layout and larger areas to travel was a new thing for me so I opted to wear this oversized Vince shirt (super soft and comfy), with skinny jeans and a super cute pair of cowboyesque boots from Spring Shoes that I got at their launch a few days ago. This look was fab, chic and simple AND my Vince shirt was from TJ Maxx! After the Boston trip that I took on where we learned about the brand, I took a trip to their store in the Columbus area and picked out pieces that I could work back into things that I have. I received so many compliments and layered it with my accessories from Pade Vavra, Ted Rossi and Coach (the necklace) and I threw on a bag from the Magnes Sisters to complete the look. I have to say that it is becoming a place that I do love to at least take a peek into to see the brands that they have! Thank you to TJ Maxx and throughout this week you'll see some finds that my team came up with when we stocked up on our looks for the shows!

Fashionable Fridays: Day 1 Spring 2011 ~ Backstage at Vena Cava With Ted Gibson

Yesterday was a first for me as I headed over to Milk Studios (as a note all coverage will have a day delay so on Day 2, you will see Day 1, etc). Although it's not at Lincoln Center and is in the Meat Packing District, I have to say that I loved being backstage, being able to work online with no issues and there is a calm at this venue in a time where everything is chaotic. I headed to Vena Cava's backstage where I was able to see Ted Gibson at work doing what he does best - hair! Here you will see him working on the bun that I think everyone will be rocking from day to night! I was also able to hang out with Jeannine Morrris of Beauty Sweet Spot so you will see her in the video as well. I have met Ted a few times but this is the first time that I have seen him work. Going from one head to the next and seeing how he communicates with hair was amazing! Enjoy the clip and seeing what it's like to be backstage!

Trendy Thursdays ~ Ted Gibson Beauty Changes Lives

When it comes to seeing an amazing runway show, a photoshoot or any other presentation it's not just the designer, the model and creative director but there are also the makeup artists as well as hair dresses. They are the essence to all of these things coming together. Growing up, if you asked me what I would do (even in college), it wouldn't be what I do now and if I had had an interest in cosmetology, it would not have been received well. Interestingly enough, the people that I get giddy about chatting with are always photographers, hair stylists and more. If I had a child of mine tell me that they wanted to work in this industry I would be thrilled but I'd say it's competitive but you can do well. With a fab client base mixed in with repeat customers, celeb clients and influencers - you can have a salon, product extensions and spots on TV. The other day, I stood in the Ted Gibson Salon waiting for the amazing announcement. I had no idea whether it was product based but I found out that The American Association of Cosmetology Schools had partnered with celebrity hairstylist Ted Gibson as a spokesperson to Launch “Beauty Changes Lives”. This campaign aims to raise awareness for careers in beauty and wellness. When I think about how many times we all talk about our hairstylists, makeup artists and more this initiative is going to lead the way for those coming up that will need all these resources and more.

Trendy Thursdays ~ Ted Gibson's Individual Beauty

We're not carbon copies and most people don't have someone trailing behind them everyday putting their look together although the option is out there. We're people who live our lives and want to look like we spent a million years on ourselves when it was only a fraction of that time! Enter Ted Gibson, Celebrity Stylist - I remember receiving his products as samples and really getting to know the brand at a Total Beauty Blogger Suite for New York Fashion Week of Sept 2008. I loved the packaging and even today, he's everywhere - What Not To Wear, in Sephora, just came off of HSN this week (so bummed that I was unable to attend his event at his Salon but it's been a busy week - although he launched an extension collection) and of course he has his salon. He is the hair stylist to the stars and yet he has amazing affordable products that allow his sense of style to find its way into our bathrooms! Ted just came out with Individual Color Shampoos and Conditioners that work for brunettes, red heads and blondes. I loved that natural glitter in them and love the brown hue (obviously). Washing your hair and being able to get a little of the color infused in it for a fab rich brown with shimmer is amazing!

In addition, we all have those days when we're not heading to the salon but our has lost its muchiness (Alice in Wonderland) so having Ted Gibson's Styling Hair Sheets brings your hair back from the beyond! It's quick, clean and no fuss! Once again it's all about having the resources that make your hair get into fighting shape when for some reason you don't find Ted hanging out in your studio waiting to prep you!

In honor of the release of Sex and the City 2, in theatres May 27th, stylist to the stars and hair guru on TLC’s “What Not to Wear” Ted Gibson is offering for a limited time a SATC Salon Blow out Party! What an amazing way for those in NYC and DC to get a chance to feel the luxury that the fabulous 4 have represented to us over the years! This special is great for a group of 4 or more to get discounted blowout service from the hair salon known for having the most expensive haircut for $950. When booking the party, make sure you say “Sex and the City” to get these perks:

  • FREE glass of champagne
  • 15% off Blowouts for each guest of the party
  • Discount on the ted gibson hair sheet styling from $14.99 to $10.00
  • Dates: May 14th – 29th
