Music's biggest night also had an interesting series of events take place prior to hitting the red carpet! The Grammys issued a dress code policy to ensure that there wouldn't be wardrobe malfunctions (of course there were a few people who opted out of working within the dress code and shared a bit of exposure - of course we'll recap on our faves here). One of my favorite looks meshed fashion and technology together. Carrie Underwood rocked this custom made THEIA dress which was made in 6 days! “When I received the call from Carrie’s stylist, Trish Townsend asking me to make the dress, I felt a rush of excitement and immediately said I’d be thrilled and honored to design a gown for her,” states Don O’Neill, Creative Director, THEIA. “Quickly after hanging up the phone, I realized “Oh My God” how on earth can we do this in the midst of crazy last minute Fall collection preparations? Thankfully it all managed to come together not a second too soon.” Fabrics came via France and were approved by Carrie's team as well as a video production company as this dress would have images projected on it! This custom made platinum ball gown was created in 80 hours by 4 people and used 10 yards if satin as well as 100 yards of tulle and crinoline which gives this gown its structure. A corset constructed of thousands of Swarovski Crystals (another fab element that is so very THEIA) was also apart of this dress.
Throughout her performance of 'Blown Away' Carrie's dress showed images of butterflies, roses, gold, water, etc. Although she stood in place, it was a great way to show movement in a new way and to show the continued possibilities of utilizing LED and fashion!
A classic black dress with lace overlay from Theia, never goes out of style! Earlier this year, Paul and I saw Angella Bassett in The Mountain Top which showcases the last days of Martin Luther King Jr. Yesterday, Angela Bassett hit the red carpet at BET Awards last night! I'm loving her classic chic look in black with a bit of lace! I'd have accessorized her the following way: black onyx. I have been a fan of this gemstone ever since I can remember. David Yurman has this fabulously detailed wheaton ring as well as cable wrap necklace - perfect items to wear whether you're dressing up or dressing it down. I'd stacj a few bracelets together such as Irene Neuwirth as well as Ivanka Trump's piece as well. Finally pop in a bit of rose gold with Deborah Pagani cognac diamond Maiko earrings.
Last week we gushed over Kris Jenner's white dress and here we go back in white! Maybe it's the fact that later on today we have the Met Ball (dubbed the Oscars of the East Coast by many will be live streamed and available on Amazon, Vogue and Metropolitan Museum of Art) where we know the fashions will be stunning (and this year you can see it streamed live) that we're even a little more excited today! Last week, Giulliana Rancic rocked this fabulous dress by Theia at E! Upfronts which looked phenomenal. As a huge fan of this media everyday girl gone glam, it's hard to suggest tweeks - but of course I am!
I'd definitely play up the blush love by adding in these amazing Casadei studded pumps. I would layer on pops of shimmer with Charriol (loving that one of these a Nordstrom exclusive) - together it's just enough bling which every girl loves! To add a little neutral, how about Nam Cho's eye popping ring with champagne diamonds? This amped up look is so G and one we're super excited aboout!
Oprah has a perfect sense of self and when you make the decisions that she makes on a daily basis, you know that she is assured with what it is that she does. To that point, dedicated Oprah fans saw that on her magazine's cover, Sept 2011 - she rocked this deliciously glam look by Theia! You know that I love the beaded dresses that Don O'Neill creates. They come in a number of hues and create instant glam! She loved it so much that she wore the same dress to Jimmy Kimmel Live's Post Oscar Show! She looked radiant and like a true TV mogul!
One of my favorite designers is Theia whether I'm wearing it for my appearances or just seeing it embraced by celebs and people in the know! I love that this line's premise is on goddesses and each season they bring a new goddess as the muse for the entire collection. Last week, I shared with you their inspiration - Athena! We know this goddess as someone who is powerful, bold and a protector in many ways! I was backstage at this show which had Dashing Diva doing nude nails! In addition, I fell in love with the hair of this show fun loose braids with many of the girls wearing beaded "helmuts" that enhanced the overall look!
Watch the final model walk to see a number of items from this look!
I have 3 go to designers when I need a dress with pop whether it's for Day or Night - Natori (who dresses me for a number of Fashion Weeks including the current one that starts officially tomorrow), David Meister (you can check me out rocking one of his pieces in October's issue of Cosmo and on their Facebook page) and Theia. The reason is simple all the designers are multigenerational (meaning from your 20's + they ensure the person wearing them rocks great style while also being able to be comfortable, have gorgeous fabrics and it hides the items that we know is there or we believe is there that we don't want others to see. Without them, dressing becomes tough! When I travel or have an appearance, these are my go to's.
Although NYFW starts tomorrow, there are those that get in a little early on the action so on a not so rainy but definitely not sunny day, I found myself in the Fashion District prepping to see Theia. This line is always Grecian inspired and the goddess muse for this collection (as told and commentated by Don O'Neill, Creative Director and dashing guy all around) was Chloris the Goddess of Flowers, Nature and Spring. Below are some of the dresses that I am obsessed over from Day Dresses, Gowns and Red Carpet stunners. There's ruching, glitter, glam and diva all over it which Kittens know is my fave! For those following my Tumblr account, you can also see some other peeks that I took in real time to get your fashion fix started!
