Just a few weeks ago I commented to someone about how the weather has been pretty decent for winter! In fact, we have even had some unseasonably warm days which was nice and then we hit the weather that took place yesterday - rain snow mix! I suppose we can't really complain as it's not so bad but the teasing of what we can wear as we get closer and closer to Spring is unbearable. So to that end, I'm always glad when I get a chance to travel during this time of year - but how do you travel best when you're going to a warmer climate?
I'm heading out to Charleston on Thursday morning and will be back home Friday afternoon. On a trip like this, I tend to have my garment bag and a weekender so that I don't have a lot to take with me and it ensures that everything can come on the plane with me. I love a look that lets me get right off of the plane and straight to what I need to do! I love a good kaftan and once you roll over the images, you'll see what pieces I love using and rocking so that I have great effortless style even when I'm up in the air.
So a few weeks ago one of my readers asked what was on my holliday wish list this year! With it being the last day of November and us heading into the last month of the year (can you believe it) - I had to give you a peek on a few items that I will be looking for under our tree this year. As you know, I'm always about accessories and having something fun to put on! So since this year has been quite a year to make for a great 2013, I am definitely looking for Santa to bring a few things my way that will come in handy! As many of you know I'm OBSESSED with Balenciaga from their city bags in various sizes to their cosmetic cases. I love them in a number of hues but this rose golden bag is perfect no matter what coast I'm on or what season! When it comes to rocking something fabulous and decadent, I think back to one of my favorite jewelry brands, Konstantino - I adore this blue topaz. When it comes to natural stones, I love this agate cuff from YSL which is perfect for casual days or my power meetings when I'm going over design concepts or an upcoming event that I am hosting.
Of course, I wear many hats so in addition to being an Accessories Expert, the founder of this site and other items - I am also the Co-Founder and Creative Director of Shoe Week and having too many shoes is never a bad thing! I adore peep toe heels, over the knee boots and sandals (AND I have a thing for flip flops - Havaianas of course)! I'm fortunate that my work allows me to travel all over so I'm always buying summer clothing even when temperatures here in NYC are much colder! These K Jacques sandals are so fun as I love that there is the shocking pop of patent leather color and then calf hair - perfect for my kaftans and maxi dresses which are a tropical must! When it's time to go glam or to dress up my jeggings, I'm always a fan of anything by Giuseppe Zanotti - especially with these amber suede heels! Finally it's all about over the knee boots - Casadei is a must to have in my closet from peep toes and beyond!
I love a weekend prior to a holiday! In my case, the weekend prior to a holiday means that I can get odds and ends done prior to the 4th and my upcoming travel! It's all about the perfect pot of tea (whether I sip it in the morning, chill it or add a little champagne to it) which starts off with my Breville. I'm loving Kusmi Tea especially in Detox which is a great way to kick off the day. Since this weekend is bound to be gorgeous, I want to be ready for anything whether it's a lunch or a night out so slip on this Missoni jumpsuit which reminds me of candy and all the sweetness that a weekend is meant to have. Pair this with Gerard Yosca with this fab necklace and pendant. Slip on Zariin Jewelry's Green Agate Gold. Round out the look with Givenchy and this large leather bag as it's perfect to store items that you shop for when you're out and about. Finally clad your feet in Prada to make your weekend perfection!
I love rocking chambray and in this romper, it's all about being femme chic for sure! I love the ribbon and the button detailing that is on this wideleg look! With the fabulous weather that we have been experiencing all over, I had to show how Spring can be embraced within this look. I'm loving fuchsia an dthere are a number of ways of including this within the site. I love Nicholas Kirkwood's Snakeskin Platform Sandals that have a mixture of hues that make this the new neutral. This Panacea Agate Pendant Necklace is a simple way to bring color close to your face. Mix it up a bit by putting Zariin Pink Agate Gold Adjustable Ring which adds a fab mineral quality to the overall look.
Finally, if you find yourself doing a day where you're hanging in the neighborhood, then this Reagan Annapolis Shopper by Hobo The Original is perfect for you! If you have been looking through your Kitten Lounge's Spring Escapes Magalog you know that we introduced this very brand new shopper within our Magalog! We also gave you a chance to enter a giveaway! You have until noon on March 21st in order to be apart of this giveaway! Tell @KittenLounge and @HoboTheOriginal how you would fill your tote! Follow both accounts and let us know and you have a chance of winning this fun tote. Not only is this a cute way to complete your look but you can also wear this with so many looks!
We continue with my Kimmie's 5s which looks at the top 5 Accessories that create a designated look. Today, our accessories will build a cozy look that's perfect for running errands but also allows you to grab drinks and a nice dinner! Nothing is better than a fab cowl neck sweater by DKNY in a fabulous tomato red hue! I love this hue as it's not holiday red, or a cherry version and it looks amazing on some many skin types. Pair it with a pair of jeggings by Paige Denim. This is a great look but of course, we want to do a nuvo glam on this and take it to rugged chic!
First off, this pair of Sperry Trinity Hiking Booties which gives a slight nautical look but has the rugged look with a fab stacked heel on it. As you run out the door, the Pendelton weekend bag will ensure that you're able to take a number of items that will allow you to tackle your lists to do as well as to bring gifts with you! When it comes to your jewelry, a simple Large Gold Necklace will lay nicely next to your cowl portion of the sweater. When you push your sleeves up (as I definitely do this) , this Mallarino Alejandra vermeil cuff is the perfect balance of bling while having that fab ornate look that I look for that adds in the glam factor to a heavy rugged look. Finally, Stephen Dweck has a gorgeous ring that has agate as well as delphinium which is perfect to add another hue into the look!
OMG it was super cold outside earlier today and by the end of the day, it was even colder! So now that we are in this season, how do we arm ourselves against it? Start off with this Raquel Allegra tank which is distressed, paired over Adriano Goldschmied Sateen jeggings! Wrap yourself in this fabulously warm Day Birger Et Mikkelsen chunky cardigan (which is an essential part of outfitting. As always, we need to rock fab accessories. I'm loving this equally chunky Sandra Dini musk quartz and diamond ring and this Chan Luu semi precious agate slice necklace! Finally, we need to ensure that our feet stay warm and I'm loving LISKA's raccoon fur boot which looks amazing and caps off this look wherever you're heading!
Today is National Sake Day which kicks off the sake season (and the 1st day of October can you believe next month is Thanksgiving!?!)! My Glammie Kittens know that I love sake and enjoy drinking it with a number of dishes but on this day, it's all about having it with Sushi. Of course you could go out and enjoy an amazing spread but sushi is so amazing when it's made at home and you can invite people over. So how does one create a snazzy sushi spread? First of all you have to have great beverages I'm a huge fan of Gekkeikan which is one of the leading brands with a number of sakes and plum wines within their company! Below, I have a fab recipe that you can make. For those who love sake, they can have it alone or make a nice martini. Plum wine is always a nice sweet beverage to have as well to shake it up a bit! Above is an image of the rice patties where they harvest the crop in order to make the decadent sake that will be enjoyed throughout the year! I'm loving the Sake cups and pitchers that are great way to jazz up your affair available at Sur La Table.
As many of you know, one of my dear friends works with Uoriki Fresh which comes from the Tsukiji Markets in Japan. They're known for a style of frozen fish that allows it to arrive here in the US fresh after you thaw it out by simply leaving it on your counter before you begin using it. With this fish, you can make a number of rolls which is fun to do whether you do it in advance or have guests come to make their own! Definitely make it easier on yourself by having a rice cooker which ensures perfection each time and is available at Williams Sonoma. In terms of presentation it's all about having phenom chopsticks (loving the stainless steel) which you can get from Cooking.com and these GORG Agate plates and coasters which add a nice natural flair thanks to Viva Terra. Finally, the guest needs to match the sentiment of the event. During NYFW, I rocked this Nanami dress during my Meet and Greets at Robert Verdi for the launch of my Kimmie Smith x Sebago Spring 12 line. This dress by Josie Natori can be worn alone or over leggings if you choose. I love that although it's not quite a kimono, it's done in the style and essence of one and has gorgeous colors and tones to it! Make your night or brunch fabulous today and below is one of my fave drinks known as the Gekkeikan Apple Blossom by Todd Richman.
Gekkeikan Apple Blossom by Todd Richman
4 parts Gekkeikan Sake
1 part Kobai Plum Wine
1 part Cranberry Juice
1 part Apple Juice
Top with Ginger Ale
Combine ingredients (except the ginger ale) in a mixing glass, add ice and shake well. Pour into a tall glass and top with ginger ale. Garnish with a green apple slice.
I'm always doing something in terms of getting a spa treatment or some level of beauty maintenance. I work out, spa from home or whatever my schedule allows for but there are those days from time to time where the whole day is built around "Beautifying" which means everything happens to take place on the same day. As many of you know, this is the first time since last June that I will have had about 6 - 8 weeks where there is no travel scheduled for me and I can actually enjoy being in the city (of course I will still be in meetings but at least I'm not jumping on a flight every few days - unless my schedule gets tweaked). It allows me to take some personal time, focus on prep that needs to happen for upcoming New York Fashion Week and just enjoy not being in transit. Getting back from a successful stint in DR last week, I began booking my threading, Turkish Hammam treatment (Trump Soho), hair appointment and mani/pedi (Polished Beauty Bar) and decided that Monday was the day. I'll kick it off with some yoga and cardio, do some light shopping, nibble a bit and just enjoy the day from the inside out!
With that said, I need an easy look so today it's all about the maxi (no shocker there and Anthropologie is always a good place to start when you're thinking of dresses), super easy shoes that allow me to move but are slightly elevated from rocking my Havaianas (which I am prone to do when I truly want to be comfy) and some fantastic accessories. I love mixing sweet and edgy so I am in LOVE with Pamela Love's ring which definitely makes the eye take notice and I love the bib necklace with it's vibrant Carnelianesque tones in Agate (another Anthropologie winner)! Perfect day to be out and about and to continue to de-stress!
A blue period isn't always a bad thing! In many cases, it's fun to rock blue with a crisp white as no one can bypass a bit of nautical flavor! Im loving the simple striped tank with cute white shorts! I love this agate bracelet paired with a fab pair of Christian Louboutin! With plans being made for 4th of July you should definitely ensure that you look the perfect part when you're nibbling n treats and waiting for fireworks to come!
As you know, I have spent the past few days in Florida! I began my press trip in South Beach at the Delano, hung out in Orlando with my bestie at the Happiest Place on Earth and then hanging out in Ft Lauderdale! I definitely needed some time away and anytime I'm in Florida, I'm always in awe of the fab colors and rich tones. I decided to bring in these coral, agate and turquoise pieces as they are so Florida! They remind me of my trip as I head back home and get closer to a number of trips that will be taking place over the next few days. These can be paired with jeans, maxis and so much more. They're also seasonless so don't feel like you can't wear them beyond the spring and the summer!
As you guys know, Paul, is the Food Editor of this site and although he has been busy working on a fab project that we will be releasing here on this site, he has taught me a lot about the purpose behind organic eating. Whatever it is that we enjoy eating, it should be chemical free and free range (for those that eat meat). The more that we have begun eating within this lifestyle, I've noticed such a contrast between eating at restaurants that are organic versus those that aren't. Each week, Paul and I enjoy shopping at Farmer's Markets and finding restaurants that are either vegetarian or organic (as I do love chicken and having meat every now and then). This mission has created a new understanding and it's amazing to open our horizons. It's become an issue that I definitely will bring to this site for others that want to know more about places to eat, purchase foods, etc. Not only will this be incorporated into Snazzy Sundays segments but I also want to create awareness to organizations that help those that work within that industry.
To that end, I have created a collection where a portion of the proceeds will go to NOFA NY (Northeast Organic Farming Association, NY), an organization that is "the oldest and largest organization in New York devoted to organic and sustainable farming and gardening. They are an organization of consumers, gardeners and farmers creating a sustainable regional food system which is ecologically sound and economically viable". This collection is entitled, Au Naturale. To me, being organic is keeping everything simple, clean and nourishing. Eating is a lifestyle and as a part of my lifestyle, I enjoy accessories. This collection includes my favorite stone, Agate in a myriad of colors and placed on a sterling silver chain. These chains are two feet in length and the pendants come in brown, red, blue and more. These natural stones are perfect to pair with a number of items and come in small ($40), medium ($50) and large ($60). $10 from the sale of each piece will go to this organization to continue to support NOFA NY's efforts! In addition, you'll look fab wearing these pieces which will be available on Kitten Couture as an ongoing effort to maintain fab eating and fab accessorizing!
Whether you work for yourself or someone else, you've been enjoying playing hooky from work and your normal grind. It's like being back in school and realizing that you get a winter vacation. Maybe you're shopping or you're just hanging out around the house. So as you're running around with your friends and grabbing drinks, think about super cute outfits that you can wear as you're out and about. You know that I love wearing tank tops year around so of course this is the perfect item that can be layered so that if you're just hanging out and it's hot or the heater is way up, you can keep having fun!
This satin tank can be paired with a pair of skinny jeans, over the knee boots and a simple necklace (huge fan of Agate). If you're having a casual afternoon, how about this amazing beverage Root. Enjoy it over ice or just enjoy it with a number of other mixers. Root is an old time alcoholic beverage that was the inspiration for root beer that we drink today. If you want to find out where you can get this, feel free to click the link! However you spend this week or NYE, make sure that it's super comfortable!
As some of you may know, I'm launching a new line that has elements of my first line, Kitten Couture, and yet it's completely in a different direction! It's exciting and with a soft launch next month and the official one in July 2010 - I'm in that mode of figuring out and rounding the troops. A lot of what I will do involves travels and presentations to bring the jewelry line to various markets. Miami is one of my key cities as second to NYC, it's one that is vibrant and yet very relaxing. When I'm there, I defintiely love to party like a diva and love dresses such as this one by Terani Couture which is split so that while you walk, your shoes can peek out (hello these shoes by SOS Mark are ridiculously amazing and you feel like your dripping in luxury with every step!). With so many eye popping items, I love the idea of bringing it back with natural pieces such as this gorgeous Quartz and Agate Ring (two of my favorite stones) and this lovely one of a kind pendant. I can imagine floating from place to place in this dress as I head out to whatever party is next! This is perfect whether I'm in LA, Miami or Las Vegas - just as long as I'm out and about and having a great time!
It's so hard! When the weather starts getting chilly but I'm watching shows like the Hills, I wonder why I couldn't have decided to move to LA as opposed to being in NYC. But then I remember that NY is someplace that I could never be away from and if cold is the tradeoff, then I would need to just deal with it! The good news is, I'm able to travel so I never have to stay in the cold for too long. Thinking of LA makes me remember that I have plans to visit later on this year or as late as Feb and I love the idea of mixing an element of summer with a bit of fall. I'm obsessed with kimono outfits (yesterday I was wearing a kimono top over a pair of jeans) but if I were out an about in LA, I would love this simple Kimono jumper by Joie paired with these booties. I love that they're suede and have a bit of rocker detail. To add to that, the cuff of metal feathers is the perfect compliment and today, I'm including a Mother of Pearl, snail shell, Agate piece from my jewelry line, Kitten Couture!
I could imagine this on a day meeting with showrooms to talk about new collections, meeting with friends, heading out to dinner and more! Just looking at this look makes me want to start planning trips to leave the impending cold! Even if you're not heading anywhere, these are great pieces to begin including within your closet or at the very least, you'll want to click within the spread and check out the fab brands! For those that are fan of Kitten Couture, contact me as I have a special promo that you can use from now to the end of the month to add a little spice into your jewelry collection!
I was a huge fan of Dynasty, Falcon Crest and Hotel because it was the 80's and when the women in these shows meant business, they had the power suits with the fab shoulder pads. Thankfully, the idea of the power suit has changed as professions aren't the same - our look doesn't need to be one that is a two piece. One of my favorite looks is this long sleeve tunic dress which is a must for the fall/winter season. Paired with a super cute pair of boots all you need to do is find some fun accessories. Here lately, green has been a color that I have been including within a lot of my outfits. I've been obsessed with Siman Tu ever since I happened to walk by a shop on the Upper East Side that carried some pieces. This bib necklace has always been a classic but has been on trend over the last few season and I expect it to continue. This look can be completed with this gorgeous Amethyst and Agate ring! The large cocktail ring is a must and if you want to really bring this outfit to another level, I would pair this with a belt whether it's a wide one or a thin one that you can wear at an angle.
Purple comes in strong this season as it is one of the main colors of the fall. Although I am exciting to see this color in various ways from makeup, coats and so much more, what about when it comes to your home? There is no reason to eliminate this powerful color from your home. Thankfully, I am so glad that Vivre agrees with me and has so many great pieces in varying shades of plum. Take some time to check out the pieces that look best whether it will enhance your pictures or be the perfect item to place on your dinner table.
Last Fri the runways were full of bathing suits and fabulous swimwear! One of my favorite designers, Syla by Sylvie Cachay, hit the catwalk with a super cute Boho Chic look! My favorite look from this show is definitely this piece! I love the simple cream color but the accessories are absolutely amazing and definitely something that I would wear! It's hard to say which accessory is my favorite but clearly my eye was drawn to the belt which looks like it could be agate but I'm not sure. This piece would look cute with a slim fitting jersey or over a tank and a pair of jeans. I love this natural style and think that sometimes it's nice to go beyond wearing prints and to go with something simple and chic which looks amazing no matter where you opt to wear this. This piece and many more can be see on the Mercedes-Benz Swim Miami Fashion Week site as there were a lot of great looks for this show.
You guys this is so exciting! The beautiful piece shown here is an exclusive lariat from my collection, Kitten Couture! It is available on 66 Degrees! This Ontario based site looks for designers that are willing to create exclusive items that are only available in limited quantities. So I created the Alli which includes Botswana Agate, Carnelian, Snail Shell and more! This was such an amazing process and you should check out the site to see what other designers have created from jewelry, furniture and art! I love the idea of being introduced to designers that you may not have been aware of and this is exactly what this site aims to do! This is definitely and exciting day for me and one that I couldn't wait to share with all of you. Please pass this on and thank you so much for being apart of this amazing day!!!
I love the idea of presenting so many "citrus" oriented items to all of you. This citrus is more of an ode to grapefruit but is definitely something that I think is super cute with many of the flirty tops and dresses that we will be wearing as we head towards summer. These little leather clutches by Rebecca Norman are hand sewn and have this beautiful agate embellishment on each piece. If this pinkish/brown agate is not you, there are other embellishments that you will enjoy. I love this sense of natural bling and feel that this will look amazing with many of your denim looks and super cute heels. Check out more pieces from this designer to see what else you can expand within your closet!
