Wearable Wednesdays ~ Vogue Italia Does It Again

As many of you know, last year Vogue Italia had an amazing issue with a variety of gorgeous black models within the page. This was such a ground breaking issue and one that sent many of us running all over the city or begging someone to pick it up from a magazine stand! That issue was the only magazine that I decided to keep and it still sits on my shelf! So I was pleased to find out that Vogue Italia had another issue in July of this year that is extremely coveted. Along with Barbie turning 50 (if you haven't seen the Malibu House oh yes the real one or the runway shows, then you need to check it out) the insert magazine of July's issue within Vogue Italia has a Barbie spread using black Barbies! I have always loved Barbie and I had over 92 in various shades, hairstyles and more. To see Barbie in couture editorials is definitely an issue that will have me running all over the city to find it again as I can only hope that someone has it! Sippin Saturdays: Shambala Preserve

Usually we cover music on Saturdays; however, I found out about an amazing organization during a soon to be posted conversation with A.W. Gryphon. In the course of her conversation I learned that one of her close friends Tippi Hedren (yes from Alfred Hitchcocks Birds, one of my favorite movies - P.S. I love the Barbie that is coming out as her character Melanie Daniels) was the founder of the Shambala Preserve. Serving as President of the Roar Foundation, she ensures that the preserve is running. This preserve is in Southern California and is a safe haven for big cats that have been abused due to people trying to own them as pets, being used as "protectors" for drug dealers and more. Many of the initial animals that came to the preserve were obtained from the movie, Roar, that Tippi Hedron played in. This was also her inspiration as she fell in love with these beautiful creatures.

These big cats now have a safe place to live where there is a full staff to to care of them and they can live their lives in a protected environment. You can support their efforts by donating to various cats. Depending on the type of big cat (lion, tiger, liger, etc), you can support on a monthly basis for $50, $75 or $100 a month. If you happen to be in the area, Shambala Preserve is open to the public one weekend a month but you have to make a reservation in advance in order to see 70 big cats and a selection of ducks as well. I think that this is a great organization and one that you should learn more about and definitely should assist! Enjoy these images of the big cats that were taken by Bill Dow (c).

Fashionable Fridays: Christian Dior Cruise 2009 Brings Out Our Inner Barbie

I love many of the images from Christian Dior's Cruise 2009 Collection. There are so many vibrant colors that pop, I love the infusion of the essence of the Southern Belle mixed with the island babe. My favorite outfit from the entire show is this dress. I love that it's fashionable confection! Obviously the colors are very complimentary to one another and I love the length. This is the perfect item to wear when you go to a friends cocktail party on their rooftop or in the Hamptons! At the same time, this reminds me of a dress that would have been a favorite for me to put on my Barbie! The sleek look with the ruffle is perfect and I love the necklace that was paired with this piece. This is definitely the effortless and comfortable look that you would want to wear when being out and about. It's not a bad idea to think about wearing a cute hat with this as well.
