I love when an outfit has a subtle pop factor! This means that it is up to you to really let your accessories do the talking for you! Today my mind kept going back to the Bebe romper I saw online as I am in a Florida state of mind right now with my upcoming appearance this month on HSN! Earlier this weekend, I fell head over heels for Ashley Pittman as I love her "get back to natural" sensibility with tons of pop! This necklace is the perfect compliment! Paired with this fab cork clutch you'll see why this material shouldn't just be adored for its coupling with wine. It's perfectly natural in its look and feel while being a great way to add an unexpected pop of contrast in color. Finally, I have been a fan of Stephen Dweck for years now so any chance to incorporate his pieces on your hand should be taken without a doubt!
I graduated from Indiana University 8 years ago - it seems like forever ago but it's times when people ask what I do or try to guess my age (31 in 2 weeks) that they ask if I went to school to do what I do now. Although one of my majors was Telecommunications with a focus in New Media (social media), I didn't do anything in fashion but I grew up in this environment and always had my own sense of style. In fact, my way of dressing in college set up the way that I enjoy dressing now - casual, comfortable and well versed pieces that can go from a variety of situations with dynamic accessories. I came into my own sense of style when I was finally able to buy my own clothes, figure out the jeans that worked best for me (I never really wore jeans until then), my hemlines came up etc. I learned to incorporate many of the classic components of my style via my mom, into my look. So what you see today is a mix of what I grew up with (love of plaid, certain preppy elements, blazers, etc), with my love of casual and easy and once I got to NYC - adding the glam factor to create my nuvo glam look. Of course I enjoyed some items of collegiate fashion that sometimes are best left for campus (never wore my jammies to class but I had oversized sweatshirts that I wore during finals).
I am introducing a segment that is incorporated into our Monday posts on Kitten Lounge called, Kitten U. These are styles that are perfect to wear on campus when you're heading to class and yet - you can go out with friends, have items when your parents visit or wherever you happen to go. The beauty of this feature is that we're also going to highlight great style that's around campuses around the country. The fashions that are presented here are also fab for those that are not on college so you can get in on the fun too! For our college girls we're looking forward to seeing what style you and your friends are rocking so feel free to send pics as we will have a fun giveaway just in time for Fashion Week where we will giveaway fun key looks for the fall. The giveaways that are associated with Kitten U are for our campus readers.
Today's look incorporates the sweatshirt updated in a new way! I'm obsessed with this sweatshirt as it has a great fit (happened to see this in Bebe and couldn't believe how cute it was) but on the back it has the slashed effect that is sexy and casual. This can be paired with jeans, leggings, cute shorts etc. It's fun to grab food across the quad and also to go out in as well. Simply get a great charm necklace, cuff and a pair of booties (great year around) and you're ready to go. This is such a great versatile top that you'll gravitate to. if you feel that you're back is too exposed, you can put a tank under it.
To kick off these posts, we have a few fab beauty Care Packages to giveaway (thanks to Dove, Lush and a super cute chemise from Josie by Natori and more). All you need to do is to Like us on Kitten Lounge on Facebook and let us know what year and school you're going to on our Facebook Page!! This kicks off today and will run through labor day weekend! Keep checking our Fan Page as we will let you know about our clothing giveaway that is coming up in a few days! Follow the #KL31BdayStar picks for our essentials for fall and what's on my birthday list!
Yes Christmas is this Fri - I can't even believe it but I'm also thinking about next week when one of my favorite days, New Year's Eve is coming up! Wherever you are in the world and whatever it is that you're doing there's a look you're going for! A group of friends and I are hosting a NYE party which is going to be fun and of course, it's themed. Other friends will be on a cruise and someone is doing a casino night. When it comes to NYE, you could be doing anything (which is why we don't have a spread but a collection of dresses).
Chictopia is running a contest in collaboration with Bebe and they want to know what you're going to be wearing as we close the door on 2009 and get ready to ring in 2010! All you need to do is upload pictures to Chictopia's site and 3 winners will be announced on January 9th and of course, you will receive a gift from Bebe. Although you could win on their site, for those that upload their image on Chictopia and would like to receive a $25 Bebe Gift Card and a cute piece from Nicole Ritchie's line, House of Harlow, you simply need to post the link of your image on the Chictopia site back here on Kitten Lounge! We will announce the winner of this on Jan 10th!
A classic dress is an essential to any wardrobe regardless of your style. When it comes to the It dress that everyone should have, I urge everyone to think about getting the classic wrap dress from Diane Von Furstenberg. It never goes out of style and it doesn't take a lot to add to it whether you're going out for drinks, heading to work etc! Of course being someone who loves accessories, you know that I can't leave you without adding a few gems! First of all make sure to have a cute heel (check my Jimmy Choo's would be perfect for this) and then think about your cute hand bag whether you opt for a clutch, hobo, etc. Finally, jewelry is always an essential. Now Nicole Ritchie has been a part of a lot of fashionable collaborations but her jewelry line, House of Harlow, is such a great boho chic line. Now what I love about this is that she is actually about to make pieces exclusively for Bebe and will be available on their site and in stores by the end of the week!
I love that although this jewelry is super cute, they're best when separated to add a little more oomph to your outfit which is perfect to mix and match everything! I love the pattern and love the tribal elements of the pieces which adds a great flavor to the classic wrap dress! Take some time to think about classic elements that you should be adding to your closet while making sure your accessories allow us to know more about your personality!
Earlier this year, I let you guys know about Bebe's search for their It Girl - in case you missed out, you should check out the previous post about this. Well with a search that stretched across the country, it all culminated in LA. Regional winners represented their part of the world by being apart of a an amazing 3 days where they were photographed, met one another in order to see who would be the first "It Girl" for Bebe! As you may remember, these girls were give the opportunity to interact with people within the fashion industry including Bebe, Elite Model Management, Look Model Management and Elle Magazine! Another amazing experience was that their photoshoot took place at the Malibu home of Jack Guy. In September, you'll be able to see a lot of images but until then, we were given a sneak peek at the finalists, winner and notables within the industry! Congratulations to Rachel who became the first 'It Girl"!
I love sharing interesting tidbits with you guys! Whether it's an event that I attended, a new find or simply something that you may be interested in doing - it's always fun to keep you in the know. Today's goodie comes from our new friends from Bebe. It Girl is a contest that is sponsored by Bebe, ELLE Magazine, Elite Model Management and Look Model Management. Together they're looking for your submissions to find the It Girl. From now through April 3rd, you can submit your photos and other info to Bebe's It Girl site. 600 semi-finalists will be chosen and will have the opportunity to do an in store photoshoot in NYC, Chicago, Miami, LA, Atlanta and San Francisco. Those who participate here will receive a 20% discount which will definitely help you with getting a wardrobe just in time for the best part of the Spring.
One finalist from each of the photoshoots will be chosen to go to LA (yes flight and hotel are covered). They will receive an outfit courtesy of Bebe, a $250 Amex Gift Certificate and a photoshoot from a photographer that's with Elite. This is a great way to build your book and of course to meet the other finalists that represent their cities as well.
