Fashionable Fridays: Event ~ Red Farm Friends & Family

It's super crazy that we had an earthquake midweek and a hurricane coming soon. Although my segments on HSN are not until next Mon and Tues, I was going to fly out on Sunday. I spent today reworking my schedule as I am now flying out on Sat. Rescheduling isn't usually a problem but when you're days from a show, then prepping for New York Fashion Week each day definitely is super important. But thankfully, in the midst of the madness of schedules, Rita Jammet from La Caravelle (if you have not read about one of my favorite pairings, check out their bubbly in the New York Times article on A Play Date with Champagne and Burgers) reached out and said that we must get together over dinner and wondered about the depth of my palette! I love everything and am always looking for the next best place for a bite!

When Rita suggested Red Farm, I was super pumped as it doesn't even open until Aug 30th and they have spent the past 2 weeks or so with an opening that has allowed friends and family to come and enjoy this new twist on Asian foods! Restauranteur, Ed Schoenfeld, knows a thing or two about restaurants as his passion for creating experiences is definitely apparent but his know how of Chinese food is astonishing! Upon walking into a restaurant that balances communal tables with intimate settings and yet creates an overall warm vibe - you know that this clean Anthropologiesque eatery is going to be amazing. I love that upon entering immediately there were gourmands and luminaries that spanned our favorite culinary magazines, executive chefs, foodie TV personalities on Bravo and Food Network and of course foodie bloggers! It was like a very cool home coming and seeing everyone know one another was definitely exciting. Ed asked us what we were interested in and to be safe, we left it in his hands. I don't have a favorite from the night as each bite was better then the next and I definitely wanted to create a spread of the bites that we enjoyed.

I loved the dumpling dish that had a shrimp Pacman and the little ghosties (not only were they in the correct color but one of the dumplings had shrimp and lychee together - Rita will have to tell you about that but of course it looked amazing) were dumplings - cute and whimsical. The crab dumplings that looked like little sting rays with eyes were dipped into the most amazing sauce that was like a curry of sorts! Smoked cucumber, curried tofu and spring roll pinwheels - were just a few of the tasties that we enjoyed with fab wine. Finally, we had dessert a lychee mousse that made me want to continue eating but I was just way too stuffed!

I love that vegans, vegetarians, and carnivores can come together and have a phenomenal meal and if you love dumplings as much as I do - this is absolute perfection! If tonight is any indication, this spot will be buzzing in the West Village and it seems like you're definitely going to have to have a wait but it is well worth it from a cozy environment, phenom staff and a culinary menu that looks like a food stylist put the finishing touch on each plate!

Trendy Thursdays ~ Shobha Brows

Last year (right before Sept NY Fashion Week to be precise), I was introduced to threading and headed to a salon in Soho. Now, I had heard about threading and have seen various locations throughout the city. As much as I wanted to try it, some of the cramped spaces made me a little nervous so I was happy to go to the salon I was introduced to. Just the other day, a few beauty bloggers were tweeting back and forth asking about their favorite threading salon. I had heard of Shobha but to see so many people excited about it, to see the depth of services and then to see that they had multiple locations including one in Columbus Circle and one on Madison in the East 50's - I was hooked! I knew I had to head there this week and when Jessica in marketing reached out to invite me to stop in, I couldn't say no!

I headed to the Madison Ave location where they have been in the same building but changed floors and was shocked to see a wide, airy and colorful space! There were chairs for those that were doing services that you could definitely do in an open forum; however, they had private rooms for those that were more discreet. I thoroughly enjoyed having Manju not only tame my brows but to also ask how I'd like to have them and to also make suggestions! In addition, I love that the treatment began and ended with rose water which smelled great but also felt so natural. In fact, they have such a depth of Shobha products that were made by natural formulas created by Shobha Tummala (love that she's a fellow midwest girl, went to college in the midwest and is a Harvard Business Grad - hello) that are available during your sessions, for purchase and many products are also available in bulk so you'll find them in spas!

At the end of my session, I left with rocking brows that opened my eyes (even more than my previous spot), Shobha Rosewater Freshening Cloths (both Manju and I used them to clean our hands prior to my threading and they were used to clean my eyebrow area prior to starting), Shobha Rosewater Calming Gel (which feels and smells phenomenal) and a Shobha Eyebrow Pencil for brunettes to fill in certain areas. I love trying new places and sharing with my readers of course, but I love when I have found a new home! With so many services (check out sugaring, the fact that men and women can go and its accessibility - this is definitely a must visit!

Fashionable Fridays: Event ~ Socialista NY UGG Terrace

My travel schedule is all over (not that it's because I write about travel directly but my work takes me all over between design projects, appearances and TV - it's a luxury to definitely be home in NYC) and even when I'm in the city I'm in brand meetings on top of the shoots with all the launches coming up this fall and holiday. So it's not often that I get to be out and about to have fun with people I don't see as often as I would like to! Amy, of Midtown Girl is also the founder of Socialista NY a group that allows fashion influencers and bloggers to come together and engage with one another. Amy's first event took place at the UGG Showroom in the Crown Building and did I mention that they have a fabulous wrap around terrace! This event allowed us to mingle, nibble on fab appetizers and enjoy sangria, margaritas and more. In addition, we all enjoyed getting manis and pedis via Spa Chicks on the Go. It definitely came at a fab time since I had a photoshoot the next day and even as the rain began to fall at the end of the night, we took the party inside! Throughout the night, I took a sneak peek at UGG's Fall 11 offerings. This brand is about much more then the pull on shearling boots that we're familiar with. I am obsessing over many of the handbags, jackets and stacked heels that are available. In a few days I will include info on their new launch since I am attending this in early August but know that it's super cute. It was definitely a fab event and one that definitely sets the tone for future Socialista NY events!

Mingling Mondays: Cancun Edition ~ Viva Mexico

This time last week, I was prepping for my first trip to Mexico and the infamous collegiate spot - Cancun! I was super excited and I have to say that my expectations were met! I stayed at the Royal Holiday courtesy of their company. It's an amazing time share company with a network of a fluxuating 180+ properties throughout the world. With options that include regular hotels in NYC, cruise lines and more - the options are endless. This trip is best explained in images so I took video of the hotel, my day at Xcaret which is an eco-themed resort that I would imagine would be phenom for families and those into ecological systems (it's no joke there they hold your SPF and you can buy an eco version so you don't harm the animals). I like the raft experience although it was a bit strange to not have rails but I just sat closer to the inside! We experienced various foods and of course I have a wrap up video!

It was great meeting with other bloggers and I loved that Aly Walansky of She Knows.com was with me! Avid readers know that Aly is one of my girls who I see at events, we hang out, etc so when it came to us being on the trip it was a no brainer that we were going to have fun! From the time we left JFK to the time we got back, we kept each other laughing even when we got a wee bit tired or when we were on the quest to have the most powerful WiFi that we could to get items done so check out her experiences as well. As we got lost in one of the caves together (the whole group did) and I do believe we encountered a bat or two but I can say we saw a monkey walking around in the park. But it was a fun trip and a great escape from our stiletto filled concrete jungle!

Mingling Mondays: Day 4 Spring 2011 ~ Rebecca Minkoff Presentation & Tea Time

Yesterday was my first time going to The Box. During NYFW although shows take place at Lincoln Center, there are various areas. If you go to The Stage you know it's a runway show that holds quite a bit of people. The Studio is event larger then The Stage and The Box is well a box. It's a place where the models stand on a platform and you move around the room to see the looks. It's an interesting way of presenting the line. I've loved Rebecca Minkoff's handbags since I can remember!

A few weeks ago, I got the chance to hang out with other bloggers at Rebecca Minkoff's space (gorg) to have tea, tea sandwiches, champagne, cookies etc and of course to hang out with her (she sat at my table and loved how cool she is) and to see the shoes that she was about to launch. Check out who was there by visiting Minkette, which is her blog to see it. It was so much fun and definitely made me excited to see the presentation that you will see in both videos!

Mingling Mondays ~ Cabana Bound

Wed I am heading to Florida! I'll hit 3 cities in a period of a week starting with South Beach for a fun press trip with Schick at the fabulous Delano! Now I have to say that usually I stay at Loews and it is my go to spot BUT I'm super thrilled to be staying at the Delano (it's a Morgans Hotel and I love the ones that they have here in NYC). I have to say that many times I have walked by the Delano and wondered how it would be to stay there. This trip is all about fun, hanging out with fab bloggers that I have befriended and some that I can call besties as well. Between the massages, lunches, dinners, etc we will be undertaking the serious business of working out as we all participated in Gina Lombardi's Deadline Fitness and staying smooth with Schick!

As my Florida trip continues, we'll stop in on Orlando for a visit to the "Happiest Place on Earth" and then of course on to Ft Lauderdale! The trip is about sun, fun and bikinis! In my opinion this is the best way to travel so here is one of my fave looks when it comes to hanging out in the cabana, poolside or at the beach!

Wearable Wednesdays ~ Coach's Fall Poppy Collection From Oasis Days to Crisp Nights

Last week I presented the question of whether everyday could be Poppy, if you missed it then you need to check back to find out about Coach's Poppy Fragrance collection. Now in addition to this amazing launch of Poppy's first fragrance, I'm super excited to be apart of Coach's MYNY Poppy campaign launch for fall! For those that are not familiar with Poppy, this is a fun fresh line that came out last year! How excited am I to show you guys the two images that I shot for the brand? I am always inspired by 70's elements, Audrey Hepburn and Barbie (don't ask) and I think these inspirations tie into both of these looks and yes I would definitely spritz a little Poppy to add to that whimsical but sexy sense of style. I have to say that I fell in love with the pieces that I wore because this collection has elements that you can still wear to the Hamptons, South Beach (my little oasis), etc - it's the perfect summer look! But I'm also excited about the fact that they have fab pieces for the Fall that will be perfect for brunches, crisp walks, Fashion Week and so much more. The only items that were missing in my looks were a fab pair of sunglasses as it's a great way to add an instant change to your overall look!

In the summer I love having a bit of that Boho Chic meets Miami so it's all about light and airy colors! A great way to add pop into the outfit are those nice goddess like qualities such as fab sandals. The Poppy Leather Glam Tote in Gold is beyond phenomenal and I do plan on wearing it to a blogger trip that I will take next month to SoBe, imagine having it at the Delano sitting poolside. It's roomy and fun and whatever the weather happens to be, the sun is always coming from you! I also love the Poppy Lightening Bolt Necklace which has Swarovski Crystals that are afixed to a black thunderbolt. Fun and edgy and works well in the fall as well. I love that this works well whether I'm in NYC or jetsetting!

Now I also received the fab Tyler Moto Jacket in Bordeaux is so chic, I love the Farah Fawcet feeling I had as soon as I put this jacket on! I am all about super cute heels (yes my little Jimmy Choos), a great pair of skinny heels, a tank and an awesome jacket which has fab zipper embellishments! This is something that can really work with my wardrobe and can travel well! Let me just say that when I opened the bag the jacket came in, it was definitely super luxe!

I'm so glad to be apart of this fun campaign and seeing that this is the second time that we have been apart of Coach's fab collaborations I'm excited to see the new collection and to introduce it to you! Also check out Coach's MYNY campaign which can be accessed at the "New at Coach" tab under the MYNY link so that you can see the other amazing bloggers that styled pieces from this collection! Who doesn't love tips on what they should be purchasing this fall season?

Mingling Mondays ~ Miami Dreaming!

I have been to a lot of places and yet, Miami is always a favorite for me. It's my fave place to go to whether it's eating the food, hanging out at Nikki Beach or just dancing the night away. I love thinking of all my outfits and it always has to have a party element to it. One of my fave places to buy items from is Victoria's Secret as you always end up looking like you just came off a fab lifestyle photoshoot. I never travel without my Jimmy Choos and fab accessories so this is definitely a look that I would rock. Fortunately in over a month I will head out there with a group of fab bloggers so I can't wait to share all of my looks. The meaning to good style is to find great pieces that showcase your assets and then to add a number of accessories to go along with it. You can't be in Miami without a fab platform espadrille so this is the perfect way to head out when you're staying at the Delano and going to a number of chic parties and amazing dinners.

Trendy Thursdays ~ Beauty's Largest Night

You'll find that on some things, I'm like a broken record. If you've even read my blog for half a second, you know that various posts on Thursdays talk about Purple Lab as I was a huge fan of Huge Lips, Skinny Hips and then SWAC! In addition to what I love about the line, I love that they always take it to the next level! But if you haven't seen them before, you need to make sure that you tune into HSN! My friend, mentor and one of besties, Creatrix, Karen Robinovitz of Purple Lab will be launching her line on HSN! You'll see who won her model contest to appear on air, you'll see Karen chatting about the line and you'll be in a fab space chatting with various fashionistas that have as much of a passion for beauty as you do! In addition to the fab line, you have the opportunity to be at shopping parties all over the country and if you're in NYC, I would love for you to hang out with myself and various bloggers! Bring your laughter, can do spirit and of course your card to help support this stylish woman who has a cosmetic line that is inspiring! I can't wait to see you guys and I will keep you updated on what's going on. I'll see you at The Meet at 101 Crosby St. If you have yet to RSVP, contact their head of PR Sharon to ensure that you're on the list!

Treasure Tuesdays ~ Style For The Holidays & Beyond

I am a firm believer in that there is no excuse to leave for an event or your home without feeling like you are dressed for the occassion. Whether you're just finding your style or attempting to rework your entire closet and your budget may not be where you would like it to be, you can still be someone that everyone looks at wishing that they had your sense. It's all about finding what works best for you and being able to translate that so that others follow suit.

When it comes to my style of dress, it's more of a classic one. My accessories are the areas that I definitely let my personality come out; however, my clothing involves simple, classic lines. Am I going to a Broadway show, out for drinks at the newest lounge or simply meeting up with friends? You never know and that's what I love about it. My day takes me to various places that are planned and unplanned and I hate thinking that I'm not 95% dressed for most occassions that I may be invited to at the spur of the moment (no I don't travel with a ball gown in my large bag). Today, I'm wearing the classic wrap shirt dress. Although mine isn't from Ralph Lauren (but you could be wearing BCBG's, Alexander Wang's or DVF's) and nor is it black (I'm in Navy), I thought that I would share my approach to getting dressed to provide the appearance of effortlessly putting an outfit together.

If you happen to like what I'm wearing or any other day, it's mainly because I know the shapes that make me feel comfortable. When you continue to buy the same items, you definitely have a large portion of your signature look and you never have to wonder how things fit. In fact, I build my outfits around my accessories so the actual articles of clothing are my standard basics that have classic shapes that have worked well over decades although I'm on 30 - if you love Mary Tyler Moore, Audrey Hepburn and many of these iconic dressers - you'll see that I too love them and include elements of their looks within my own closet.

I'm all about accessories and can't imagine leaving the house with a few of them on. Above are items that are not meant to be worn together (although you totally could) but can be paired with this outfit. When I'm at events like I will be tonight and people may not know who I am, how much easier is it to say "oh there's Kimmie, she's in the wrap dress with that gorgeous shell ring (I don't own one in black; however, the one in beige that I have has been the ultimate conversation maker and can be worn in all seasons). As many of you know, I am a HUGE fan of Ted Rossi's and I do feel underdressed if his python cuffs are not on my wrists (when I'm truly out for the evening, you will see me holding one of his clutches as well). I love the shirt dress as it is for all seasons; however, with the chill in the air, you will see me pairing mine with a stacked boot! These gorgeous boots are definitely a great way to elongate the leg and to give you a certain spring to your step. The wrap dress does come with a belt; however, I love emphasizing the waist and if you're wearing a dress where you can take your belt off, why not pair it with a wide one. Hopefully, it has an interesting buckle and something that draws the eye! Finally, although you will almost never see earrings on me (it's the one accessory I don't really like wearing) I encourage pop within accessories as well and love these by Bounkit Jewelry!

Now with this gorgeous black wrap dress you can stick with black accessories or you can add various elements of color! Today I'm in Navy and you will see me pair my look with brown! I love items that allow you to be a conversation piece and encourage people to come to you to chat. This is one of the most essentials of making it at an event and being a great networker. Once you wow them with your style, you can wow them with what you bring to the table. Style is just as casual as anything that you do in life. You may have to work at finding your own groove, but once you do it's second nature and this is a holiday gift that keeps on giving from now throughout the sidewalk and carpeted runways that you will hit. I'll see you guys tonight at the W at the Fashion 2.0 Fashion Trivia event where I will be one of the contestants for the Fashion Bloggers!

Mingling Mondays ~ Find Your S Factor

I guess life does have cycles. We do everything in stages only to race to a finish line. We spend 18 years to get good grades and to figure out where we end up in terms of who finished where within their class and we focus on getting into that school to do our race all over again but for shorter periods of time. This race ends and some continue on their education track while others dive into a career and yet there are many detours, stops and starts along the way but we're all on our grind hustling and trying to figure out where we're going. There's no rule book to success but the more you're out there, you're bound to get it. But where do we need to be and what is the holy grail of "it"? It can be a little daunting and at the age of 30 I find myself saying what is it that I want and how to reorganize some of my priorities as I need to make sure that I am taking care of myself. Taking care of myself does mean staying fit, eating right etc but it's to also remember that I am a multi-faceted person with various needs. Your body knows what it wants if you listen.

I had heard about S Factor from the beginning of me coming to NY but it took until earlier this year for me to go to an open house that Crystal at Tasty Morsels Bakery participated in at S Factor for me to see a demo that kept me in awe. To have the body control to do the amazing tricks that were done on the pole was definitely a mind bender and it was a few days later that I took the intro class. I love challenging exercises that stimulate the body and the mind and I had nothing but positive things to report on this site but life is interesting. A person can do the same activity within months of each other and gain a completely different experience. Fast forward to about 6 months or so later and I find myself with various colleagues within the blogging community at an Editors S Factor session (complete w 6" stilettos). The person sitting in this session is someone that has had a lot of personal growth over the past few months and not only realizes that she is closer to what she wants but wants more personal fulfillment as well. I want to know more about me and to hear me and today's session does just that.

Our S Factor session combined yoga, pole dancing and a dance routine while encouraging that hearing yourself is an essential tool to your growth within the various courses (they run 8 weeks but there are 6 levels and unlike most classes where the conclusion of all steps have a finality, you're able to continue to grow). Jill was one of our teachers (I was fortunate to have her as my teacher in a previous introductory course) and she is a power ball of energy, understanding and sisterhood. To be able to slow down is something that I have been thinking a lot more of and it has been something that fellow Editor, Keren has been telling me and all of us via her Project Detox series. Did I wake up feeling sore (absolutely - you have a lot of ab and lower back work to do all of the sensual things that you do in class) but did I feel empowered with the idea of working within a women's only studio and to hear nothing but positive affirmations? Absolutely. For those of us that work to do the impossible whether it's within our family, career goals, etc - we need to get out our emotions and to realize that beyond being fearless trailblazers, we are still women who have sensuality, femininity and qualities that set us apart not only from men but other women as we are individuals. I can't wait to start taking courses as a student and to create a sense of balance and to get in touch with areas that I may not focus on in my day to day but can within a 2 hour session. Whether you're doing a full on course, an express, focusing on lap dances and more - you're bound to find something that speaks to you. If you're interested in finding out about S Factor and your S, from now through Dec 1st of 2009, you can contact your local S Factor (they're in CA, IL, NY and TX) and use the code kitten09 to get 50% off of your introductory class.

Fashionable Fridays ~ Coutorture Presents DVF X Bloggers

ShoebloggerThe amazing DVF/Coutorture member blog photoshoot took place a few days ago but the positive feedback has been amazing. I have loved all the comments and there were so many people that were apart of the shoot that it was absolutely an amazing experience! First off, who doesn't look amazing wearing DVF with her amazing lines and pops of color and style. Each image shows us a bit of the various bloggers. One of my favorite scenes that I enjoyed watching was when the Shoe Blog (shown left) was having shoes added to the scene. Obviously, this was critical seeing that her blog features nothing but shoes and only the best could be apart of this scene. Watching the staff grabbing shoes and adding them to create a greater impact was absolutely amazing to watch! Now if you're interested in seeing more bloggers that participated, you need to check out the gallery on Coutorture for Bloggers X DVF! Get to know more about the thoughts and ideas of what happened and some of the best images that took place during this fabulous night!
