In less than a month, NY Fashion Week will be well underway. The number of outfits that I wear to take care of my show coverage, appearances and evenings is never ending it seems! I love being able to rock a number of looks that show my favorite designers. One of my favorites is Carmen Marc Valvo who always has a phenomenal ladies who lunch - going out on a night vibe! He is always a show that I love catching. In addition, his pieces can always be worn by a number of amazing designers and looks. I'm obsessed with the tan pair of Vince Camuto's that are studded so I can't wait to get a pair in black which is an essential. They look super sexy and feel super comfy. We showcased Malene Birger last week on our beauty post but I am such a fan of hers and am obsessed with her pony hair clutch. Roberto Coin's wide bangle cuff is a great pop to add to any look to add a bit of edge. Finish it off with Vera Wang's phenomenal crystal chain necklace. What a great way to look uber chic watching the runways to being out and about.
Once again, Carmen Marc Valvo returned to the NASDAQ building to inspire us with more chic looks for the lady who lunches, heads out to the opera and simply wants to look amazing no matter what! Ever since last season, I have become much more of a fan as his pieces are very Jackie O! There are so many details and feminine touches that any piece within this collection would find your wardrobe as the perfect closet to join! Above are favorite images of this show with hair done by Ted Gibson who of course created this whimsical/wind blown look!
We're at the halfway point of NY Fashion Week and we are definitely pumping ourselves up for a few more days of fashionable shows, parties and so much more! With that being said, it's a lighter day for Team Kitten Lounge. Good thing as we're one of the sponsors of Lookbook's Blogger Break Room so we can't wait to see all of our friends in media and the industry there! If you've yet to RSVP - this would be the last hour to do so!
Over the past few days I have spent a lot of times in design meetings as I begin working on my collab lines (this style also works well when you're traveling as well so that you can hit the ground running). It's like going into the boardroom but really showcasing a bit of my personality through my look. Fortunately, last week I was still able to embrace a lot of my summer looks with a layer of fall. This means that I'm able to rock my slubby tees and tanks with fab skinny jeans or leggings and a draped cardigan. It's pretty much my signature look as we are going into a transitional period from a leather standpoint. In addition, I am a sucker for a fabulous pair of over the knee boots! This season I am looking for a flat version of this style as I finally found the perfect heeled version last season! I love that over the knee boots elongate the leg, allow you to have a sexy vibe and it's practically like wearing pants as only a small portion of the jean pops out! Now because I enjoy wearing black and grey as we head into the fall and the winter, my bag is super key. During the Carmen Marc Valvo show this past Fashion Week, I drooled over every accessory that the models rocked as they were all from MCM Worldwide. I love that the line is always classic and yet has these fashionable elements that are thrown in. Since we'll soon be running around in cardigans, coats and additional outerwear, our bags take an even larger prominence in how we style ourselves. This bag is so decadent since it has those rich cognac/caramel hues as well as fab hardware and fur! Think about how you can pop in color and stand out as you go about your day!
Koh Gen Do is a brand that I'm super excited to wake up to each morning. Yes it's a makeup line but it is a phenomenal skincare line that keeps my face dewy! I've been talking about them for a couple of years but with so much activity (Fashion Week, Coterie, etc) it seems that I have to say that this line keeps my face looking amazing! Yes I can chalk it up to good genes but I'm out a lot! In fact I do a lot of events, don't sleep as much as I should etc so it's nice to have a line that has so many natural elements in it that make me look like I just left the most amazing spa! In fact, I only go to spas for massages and body treatments. Anything that I do for my face involves treatments at home! Thanks to Barneys, I love that you too can enjoy the amazing treatments.
I'm obsessed with their soap as I can place it in the mesh and after rubbing it you get a nice foam which is perfect to use on your face (of course I highly suggest the Spa Water with the Organic Cotton Pads they're amazing and super easy to use). After drying off, I love using their Essence lotion and or their Emollient Cream. It leaves your face looking clean, fresh and of course looking as if you're ready for your photoshoot. If you're here in NYC, you should definitely check the line out in Barneys or on their website of course! I also love that when I was at the Carmen Marc Valvo show during NY Fashion Week hanging out backstage watching Ted Gibson's team do what they do best - I love that I happened to bump into Diane, the founder of this fab beauty line! It was great to chat with her and to hang out which is why I love Fashion Week as you never know who you're going to run into!
Yesterday was the day of shows that were on point! To this point, this season I have seen shows at Milk Studios (Meat Packing District), Lincoln Center (UWS) and down in Chelsea - but how about a show that takes place in the NASDAQ building in Times Square and is streamed live on the huge TVs outside!?! As I headed into the building, you definitely felt that this was a finance building and interestingly enough you had to walk through metal detectors, place your bag in the scanner to check for who knows what and the elevator was in a cylindrical glass area. That was definitely interesting but once we got to the second floor, it was like any other show I was about to attend - almost. Since this space is an office building, the 2nd floor allows you to look over the railings and see the lobby below and basically it's a catwalk and they lined chairs throughout the space so it was as if the models would float by as they walked!
Backstage, I saw Carmen Marc Valvo and just seeing the hues of the clothes - amazing! Ted Gibson and his team were there making the girls look beautiful with playful sophisticated chignons and the MAC team was there doing the makeup! I have to say that this season has been exciting to be able to come up close and personal with some of the industry leaders in their profession so after a quick hi to Ted (who rocks a jean jacket well mind you), I got to know Romero Jennings the MAC Makeup artist who is so zen it's ridiculous. The videos has him talking about the look, how all factors are considered when it comes to creating the look as well as having to be flexible. In addition, hear how the layout of the show had a lot to do with the look.
I have to note that Carmen Marc Valvo is a beautiful show but being there as we received champagne before the show started, seeing the accessories that were from MCM (love) and meeting the people - he gets it. Many of the attendees were friends, celebs etc but he also brought in people who buy his clothes. I'm sure many people do that; however, the crowd that attended this show was different from any other I have encountered and they seemed to have a huge connection with him and the line which was gorgeous! I have to say that when I'm hitting a red carpet, I would want to wear his line as there were elements of Audrey meets Jackie meets southern belle. As everyone said, he gets it!
When it comes to making your outfit truly standout, the only way that this can be done (in my opinion of course), is via accessories! I love that someone could wear a cute black tank and black leggings with flip flops and they look comfortable. But then as it goes from day to night, including a studded cuff, a pair of heels and sunglasses (the days are longer so I think about my sunglasses) - now you're look simply fab heading out t wherver you've been invited. Above are two series of tones that you should think of including within your look. I love red as a great element of color. I used to never wear red as I felt a little uncomfortable; however, using it as an accessories, I like the idea of wearing red heels as in this gorgeous pair from SOS Mark. I love the black braiding! These Chanel sunglasses are a great mod look that add a bit of that color. For my Ladies of Pop, this is perfect! For those who want a neutral color but want a shoe that speaks for them, then I suggest this pair of shoes from the Tribal Collection of Casadei! I love the heel and that this is not only a peep toe shoe but has great cutouts that follow the angle of your foot. To top it off, the sunglasses by Carmen Marc Valvo (love his outfits and have been proud to attend one of his Fashion Week Shows last Sept) which has a bit of that innovative look while also being supremely casual! Take some time to think about what pops of color must be infused within your wardrobe to take your outfit from a look to one that realy shows who you are! There are so many things going on around Kitten Lounge that it's nice to have a round up. This is something that I will introduce starting today to keep you up to date! This week there will be tidbits from the first half of the month. Of course we had Fashion Week which brought such shows as Tracy Reese, Carmen Marc Valvo and more. We even went behind the scenes at the Erin Fetherston show to talk with Robert Cleary of Dashing Diva. Fashion Week also brought us up close and personal with Victoria's Secret's holiday presentation which was amazing. We even launched our music focus with Rachael Sage and of course right now, we are doing a giveaway that includes her special pack and you can still enter as well. In the midst of this, I celebrated my 29th birthday which was a lot of fun and who wouldn't love to end Fashion Week on that note! Once Fashion Week ended, we took a step down memory lane where we looked at some of our favorite toys that we played with; however, they have been reimagined by such celebrities as Courtney Cox and David Arquette - super cute. We are getting closer to the holidays so we started peeking into Halloween and I can't wait to share the goodies.
Of course, we can't talk about Kitten Lounge without talking about Paul! Our Food Editor is not only creating yummy posts such as his Avocado Squash but we will bring amazing posts starting this fall for weekend getaways. We are getting our calendars ready for long weekends which involve resorts, great foods and just getting out there with nature. I'm so excited to share more things with all of you but I just wanted to get everyone up to speed!
So Fashion Week is over and yesterday I had an AMAZING birthday and of course there will be recaps and I have another show that I attended last night as well. The Carmen Marc Valvo show was a beautiful show and reminded me of everything that I enjoy about fashion! I love seeing a show where you love every single piece that hits the runway and it's a shame that I can't include every piece but these were my ABSOLUTE faves from this show! I love a great evening gown and the attention to detail that is applied!
