One of the things that I love most about what I do is being able to learn about new designers. It's not just finding out about them but realizing that I have had the fashionable "ah ha" moment where I know I have met a line that my closet is incomplete without! This took place when I was introduced to Henrieta Duffner (yes she is the one modeling her own line) and realized that if she does come here for Fashion Week, then this would be one that I wouldn't want to miss! In addition, her Summer collection was so clean and yet dynamic that I can't wait to see what her next season will look like. I love that this does have a mix of Old Hollywood and Audrey Hepburn while adding something very new and distinctive. What are my favorites? There's no way that I could even pick one! If you're going to an event, brunch or anywhere where you feel that you need to turn heads, then this is the collection that will do it without making you look like you have tried too hard to do it!
Today was an interesting day which also explains my delay in sending out the post. It has been a rainy but productive day! Today I was apart of a taping that will be on CBS and included sometime next week. With the holidays being around the corner, I enjoyed being fitted into great looks that would be perfect for a festive occassion and I love that most of my makeup came from NARS. When it comes to makeup, I'm pretty basic in the sense that I love playing up my eyes but I don't know all the fancy tricks so as I sat in Space NK's studio, I chatted up David asking him what he was doing and how I could do it on my own (yeah I don't know about that).
When he finished off my look, NARS Body Glow on my skin. I have seen this so many times and always thought it would be too gold but interestingly enough (and thankfully), I found it to be the perfect shimmer that could not only be worn at night but in the day as well! This is definitely on my wish list and speaking of, there are two additional items that I think would make great gifts! I love the NARS Velvet Matte Lip set as it comes with a trio of pencils and a pencil sharpner (I love when I have that included so that I don't have to run trying to find it in my local Sephora). I also love the NARS lipgloss collectionn as you never know what mood you're in (I also like if you have friends over and they don't have a gloss you have enough to share). For me, I am never without MAC and now NARS which are my makeup musts when you see me out and about. When the show airs, you'll see what NARS products David used!
Technically, this post would have been on Thursday as it is beauty but Adriana Lima is so fashionable chic that she can hold her own on a Fri too. On Tuesday in Herald Square, she launched another portion of the amazing Dream Angels Collection - Dream Angels Wish. Available at Victoria's Secret in the store and online, this is a great scent. I was able to try this out during the press preview that I attended back during Fashion Week at the Bryant Park Hotel (I am still excited about the new store opening on Lex and for the personalized gift cards I still have mine!). If you haven't been in the store for awhile, you definitely want to check it out as they are bringing more luxe this holiday season.
Last night I went to the Millenium Hotel's Hudson Theater to attend the Modern Romance Bridal Event. Now before anyone starts spreading stories, I am not engaged nor does that seem on the immediate horizon; however, I know it will happen one day and I am a fan of various Bridal shows and in lieu of hearing from people on Twitter, those I have lunch with and more announcing their engagements, I felt that this was something that I wanted to know about. Now I have attended many bridal events which are bona fide tradeshows where there are booths of the same types of services that are run by various companies, I would find this very overwhelming and difficult in terms of just focusing on the moment,. I wasn't sure what I was walking into but I was very intrigued to not only attend the event but to also see the Jenny Yoo Collection which I am familiar with many of her dresses.
Upon entering, I knew that this wouldn't be a massive and impersonal show.. For $25, brides were able to come to the event with a guest and to sample various foods, beverages and an extremely select group of vendors from entertainment, spa, makeup and more. The best part, this was extremely intimate! There weren't large groups of people the entryway of the theater (which at one time had actually housed various Broadway productions prior to their purchase of the Millenium Hotel next door) allowed everyone to check in, receive their goodie bag and to meet with the vendors. This space was illuminated with lighting and large mirrors. I know I began thinking about having an event here as the mood was definitely in place. As you walked into the theater, you were welcomed with tasty sweets on the right and on the left various meats and appetizers. Both sides had bartenders and of course there were passed beverages and drinks as well. I was very pleased to enjoy the champagne. The theater not only had tables set in various motifs that were created by James Abel Events (I love the amber inspired table), but there was seating for the fashion show and on the stage the band played. This was very soothing and kudos to the organizers to hold the event from 6:00 - 9:30. Although the fashion show didn't start until nearly 8:00, it was nice to come early and to have ample time to talk to the vendors while also recognizing that some brides would be unable to come until later.
Most of the attendees had a guest with them (kudos to the fiancees that appeared) although I felt bad for those that were alone as this was definitely an event to begin honing in on the decisions of your wedding while also enjoying the atmosphere. Mental note: these events are the best to go to and I would prefer to not go alone - friends and family beware!
I could go on and on about each vendor but I focused on certain areas but if you have a question, you can contact me and I can pass on what I know/heard. Jo Malone attended this event and as I have always been a fan and tend to walk by their Flatiron location, I was pleased to learn that they have an interesting way of offering their services. Obviously, they are available to have the bride and their party come to their location to enjoy their services and they are also able to travel as well. This is a great way to get pampered and to enjoy one another's time. But the most interesting element that I enjoyed was learning about their Fragrance Combining. This service is where the bride chooses a particular scent that will be worn for the wedding and then her bridesmaids will have various notes of this scent with other items layered in. In this way, the bride has a signature scent and her bridal party has elements of it while being different from hers. She doesn't have to worry about competing or offending scents as it is complimentary. I loved this concept and was so pleased that the two ladies attending this booth were so knowledgeable about this. Pampering and a signature scent - fabulous.
This event also had a great blend between traditional versus having your own element within your wedding. The band played traditional songs such as "Just the Way You Look Tonight", "Night & Day", "What's Going On", while also putting in a Stevie Wonder song that had elements of Will Smith in the song. They were not only playful and welcoming but they showed their range as we listened to the different songs and heard from the male and female singers respectively. This was enjoyable as we had Tuna Tartar, Spicy Shrimp and more.
Prior to the fashion show, I was able to see Tarte Cosmetics offerings, Cake Alchemy, Jerry Kravat Entertainment and more. Our hostess for the night who I thought was very warm and shared many of her experiences as she had recently been married, introduced the Fred Astaire Dance Studio. This couple did two dances (shown in the video) with a traditional dance and then one that was a salsa for the first dance. Once this was completed, we were treated to the Jenny Yoo Collection which had wedding gowns and then vibrant hues for bridesmaids dresses. These are definitely not the dresses that I have seen in Bridezilla epidsodes where the adventurous bride strives to find the most questionable dresses. These are beautiful gowns that you could use for other dressy occassions and that are very flattering whether you're looking for long, short, strapless, halter and more. Of course no fashion show of dresses would be complete without showing the super cute flower girl!
I left this event thinking that there are no shortage of events that "assist" brides and their friends and families with the options available to them. But when it is my turn, I want to attend events such as this that have a select group of vendors, a small number of attendees and then having a staff that caters to everyone so that you can feel special leading up to your day.
This Wed for those that are making plans for their amazing wedding, you can attend the ModernRomance Bridal Soiree at the Broadway Millenium Hotel at 145 W 44th Street this Wed the 24th at 6:00pm - 9:30pm. This is a great evening to see the Jenny Yoo Collection and also to meet various Wedding Planner Professionals. This event also includes appetizers and cocktails (provided by Hudson theater) as well. For $25, you and a guest will be able to enjoy seeing great garments and to start putting your plans into action! If you know someone or will be getting married and are in the area, this is the perfect event for you! In addition to seeing the Jenny Yoo Collection, you can enjoy the following attendees: Tarte, Abby Jean Invitations, Neuhaus Chocolates, Brides.com and Brides NY and many more. Visit the website to see how you can be added to this event. Of course, Kitten Lounge will be covering this event and sharing it with you as well.
Happy Fourth of July everyone! Hopefully you will be spending today going to some great parties, having drinks and much more. A few weeks ago, Diane Von Furstenburg presented their Resort 2009 collection. First off, you know that I love DVF and this is my favorite dress of the entire collection. There is something to be said for classic lines, interesting prints and the use of classic colors too! All of that put together makes for a classic look that is also dynamic which will let you stand out. These pictures and more are available on Coutorture so that you can get a sneek peek on her resort collection and additional designers as well.
When something is cute, it has to be shared and Nobis has a cute line that is perfect for men and women - which is generally a rare find. Fortunately, Nobis has a great look for those that are looking to enhance their metro chic and when you want to add more to your look, you need to look at their apparel as well! This hat, known as the Maxie, is a grey newsie that has cute little details! I love that under the brim there is a bit of plaid and around the hat there are little loops that pick up this plaid as well. Nothing is better than wearing something that is seen as being a little masculine and then being femmed up with little details. I love the logo of the Nobis which is placed as a button on the side. This is so the look you can rock when you're having a great hair day or when you simply need to have something to cover a do that you would rather not have to deal with today. How cute is this when you're heading out for a game, taking a walk with your sig other or you're just out and about with your sunglasses. Either way Nobis has a great collection and one that we should all embrace no matter what our look!
I love many of the images from Christian Dior's Cruise 2009 Collection. There are so many vibrant colors that pop, I love the infusion of the essence of the Southern Belle mixed with the island babe. My favorite outfit from the entire show is this dress. I love that it's fashionable confection! Obviously the colors are very complimentary to one another and I love the length. This is the perfect item to wear when you go to a friends cocktail party on their rooftop or in the Hamptons! At the same time, this reminds me of a dress that would have been a favorite for me to put on my Barbie! The sleek look with the ruffle is perfect and I love the necklace that was paired with this piece. This is definitely the effortless and comfortable look that you would want to wear when being out and about. It's not a bad idea to think about wearing a cute hat with this as well. Take some time to visit Coutorture to see all of the images available from this show and many other Cruise oriented runway shows as well! If you're cruised out, you're bound to find other great items as well!
I love a lot of the runway shows that have emerged with that fab summer theme and of course, my eye is always on the accessoires portion. Currently, Coutorture has posted Oscar De La Renta's amazing cruise collection and as much as I loved so much that I saw, I couldn't take my eye off of this fabulous bag. Not only is it roomy and has a great handle but I love love the texture on this bag. It's so easy and luxurious at the same time! You can definitely slip your laptop on this bag and a slim line notepad as well along with who knows what else you're prone to carry at a moments notice! Take a moment to visit both galleries on Coutorture - the accessories collection and then the line in total! Once again, when you can't get to the runways or had no idea there was a show, it's nice to know that from the convenience of your home you can see everything!
Sometimes the best ideas are the simplest ones. You'll find you get more compliments and it took you much less time than the outfits that you labor over for hours. So when it comes to going out and picking up a few great pieces with no idea in mind, I always head out to Forever 21 and if the lines are too much, I go online! I love this Ruched Cami because it would look fab with skinny jeans and a great pair of heels. Love the fact that it's not pricey but that I can pair it with pieces from my collection, Kitten Couture and a cuff from my designer friend Ted Rossi. The possibilities are truly endless! Take a peek at some great finds whether it's popping in new colors or new looks for a truly great price.
Before you start wondering where the Citrus is in this post, let me explain. I really do enjoy the Sunday segments of the Kitten Lounge since they are always home oriented and for a girl that is prepping to move in May - this allows me to help you guys out with great ideas, while establishing my own list of what it is that I need. Now, I haven't decided my color schemes for my apartment especially since the apartment itself is not fully established either (details details); however, I know many of the main pieces that I definitely want.
Recently, I received CB2's (the sister store to Crate and Barrel) catalog. By the way, if you thought that the whole THINK CITRUS concept was great here, you have to visit the store, go online or look in the catalog. They definitely have focused on citrus which is a lot of fun. ANYWAY - this bed is apart of their Indie Collection and I love the open platform style of this bed while having the poster option - very Victorian. This definitely makes me think of having a cute bungalow in Bermuda or something like that with long whispy drapes. Now you can add citrus here too and this is definitely for those that are a little shy when it comes to bold colors. Think about your bedroom having a nice mocha or cream motif and popping in some citrus hued beaded pillows or those cute candy rolls. You can even have the matching side tables and have a little vase that is in this eye popping color as well. Whether you embrace the color trend completely or simply let it peek in every now and then, you'd be surprised how much it changes the look and feel of everything. If you're looking for new pieces - this is quickly becoming one of my favorite shops!
You guys March is almost over and our homage to THINK CITRUS is rapidly coming to a close and bringing us closer to next month's focus which I am VERY excited about. But sometimes in an effort to think too far ahead, I forget about enjoy where I am right now. So today, as I looked through Coutorture which is definitely a first stop on what's going on in fashion, I saw the epitome of what is citrus and amazing! Antoinette Lee Spring has a photoshoot that is currently showing on Coutorture and she has a lot of cute bags but this yellow Dolcita clutch is so cute - dare I say that it is all about the luxe lemon? I love the buckle hardware and the little studs - of course who wouldn't love how small it is! So this is something that you can pop into your wardrobe at anytime when the weather is a little dreary or you need a quick pick me up. In addition, there are so many fun pieces in this collection with names to match that you will want to know much more about. Visit the site and start making your picks on what you will be clutching this season.
Sorry for the tiny image but I am so excited about this new eyeshadow that I purchased at Sephora from NARS Cosmetics. I love that their new Spring 2008 Collection has amazing shades that add a bitter of shimmer. This shade is known as Night Clubbing - it is black mixed with gold pearls! Those who know me know that I am not a gold girl; however, I loved the shimmer that I received when I tried this on. Depending on what you fall in love with, you'll be ready for the clubs in no time whatsoever. The secret to the amazing and seductive portion of this collection is the fact that pearls of various colors are mixed in to give you that amazing look! Nothing is better than playing with your makeup and giving yourself a variety of looks. I am so falling in love with this line and can't wait to test it out in Las Vegas next month during Project, Lingerie Show and Magic!
Now that we're heading into the whole winter, it makes me think about half day Fridays, Hampton summer shares and quick weekends somewhere in the sun! With that in mind, I turn to my favorite thoughts - bathing suits. I am a huge fan of Tyler Rose Swimwear. I have a few suits and I love how sexy you look when you wear these suits. There is no way that you can go unnoticed when you wear this - your inner dive definitely comes out in these suits! You can't go wrong when it comes to black and white and I LOVE the bandeau. This is perfect for moments in the Hamptons or South Beach. The Casablanca Suit makes me think of the large straw brim hat with a nice black bow (yes I do wear this when I'm out on the beach), espadrilles and of course large sunglasses. I love the idea of bringing back a bit of that old Hollywood glamour which is perfect no matter where you go. With all the ties and mini keyhole this is absolutely a must to have in your collection!
We love hearing from you! Suggestions, ideas and thoughts are always welcome.
