I think that every well rounded closet needs a day dress! There's something about a fitted bodice that then has a fun full skirt (if there are pockets, it's even better). This is something that can be worn in the day whether it's to work, meetings, a wedding, brunch etc and then goes into night as well. This Preen Line color blocked dress in cobalt and black is a great addition to your collection. Because this is such a classic look, the accessories that you pair with it can go in a number of directions. Roll over the above images so that you can see how I have styled the look in an edgy way including - Nancy Gonzalez, Marni, Givenchy, Rachel Zoe, Jack Vartanian.
Sometimes there is nothing better then a day of beauty that takes place at home! Don't get me wrong, a spa day is fun when you can go to your favorite salon and have a number of treatments done. Even though you enjoy their relaxation rooms, there is always something about having to emerge back to the streets and then to head out to whatever you have for the day! Sometimes it's best to have a spa day at home when you know you're schedule is clear and you can do a number of things just for you and then relax in the comfort of your four walls! In honor of National Bubble Bath Day (yes this very day), there's a fab spread and to show how much this day means - I wanted to share how historic the act of bathing can be! In Ancient Rome, citizens bathed daily at the Roman baths, which often included a soak in the caldarium (hot tub), some detoxing in the laconicum (sauna), finished with a refreshing swim in the frigidarium (cold pool) - obviously spaing is an essential without question.
Anything worth doing should be done fabulously! So when you opt to have a fun day spaing, you should definitely dress for the occasion. After emerging from your shower or your bathtub (we suggest Neutrogena's Rainbath Renewing Shower and Bath Gel which is in pear and green tea), we suggest this simple La Perla cami with this fabulous Carine Gilson decadent robe which allows you to be able to tackle a number of other spa treatments or simply to relax. These Havaianas with crystal mesh allow you to continue to relax in the luxury by having a bit of bling. Finally, keep your hair out of your face within this Missoni lurex headband! Enjoy this national day whether you get to have an entire day or just an hour or so!
Last night ABC's American Music Awards took place last night celebrating 40 years of music as well as honoring this year's nominees! How can you not love Kelly Rowland's look on the red carpet? She hit the carpet rocking this Geometria inspired Naeem Khan piece from their 2012 collection! I love the simplicity with mirrored embellishments as well as the peek-a-boo effect that it brings. We'll update the rest of her look but we would accessorize with these fabulous finds!
As many of you know, I am a huge fan of Jimmy Choo and I love how these shoes have fabulous crystals on them as well as picking up elements from the dress. The crisscross pattern is the perfect way to pick up the details of the dress. Big bling should definitely incorporate the elements of this dress and Ippolita is a fabulous find. As I believe in mixing metals and want to continue with the Geometria look of this ensemble, how about including this diamond ring in rose gold from Bloomingdale's? Together, it's another way to make this look fabulous from top to bottom! I love that this outfit is the perfect bridge piece! Although I don't think it's as dressed up as a traditional red carpet dress, I do love that for this awards show where attendees have a wider range of expression, this look is perfect for the after parties that she will head out to when the ceremony is over! I love that there is a tribal element to this look and that this is a great look for her and as always she has a great natural glow to complete the look!

I have so many outfits and every now and then, I know that it's nice to have a fab outfit where I don't have to rock heels! I'm obsessed with this Black Romper which begs to have a number of fun accessories that are perfect for a night out with your friends or your significant other! I adore this Nancy Gonzalez hot pink crocodile clutch. Pair this with Ivanka Trump's pearl seed tassel necklace which adds a bit of a Victorian element to this high slit romper. Finish this look with fab Gucci crystal black sandals and this ring and bracelet Giuseppe Zanotti set and earrings from Ippolita!
In less than a week, New York Fashion Week for Fall 2012/2013 will hit NYC and I will be covering shows from Thurs all the way through Feb 16th! Then I have a few days and I am LA bound! I'm beyond thrilled as it has a been a while since I have been out West and I always love the food, scenery and style of dress out there. My inspiration today is all about west coast living and the zen I feel when I am out there! As a Botanical Goddess, you can go with the less is more motif. I am loving my tried and true designer, Roberto Cavalli one shoulder dress that has a gorge botanical print on the dress. I love that you can rock this Katie Decker ring with the citrine and diamond ring. Since there are a number of fab hues within this dress from purple to green, I'm loving this BCBG Maxazria clutch that is oversized and has a fab texturized look that plays well with this outfit. Finally, Giuseppe Zanotti's Crystal Zodiac Sandals (in Virgo of course as I am born under the sign) is the perfect way to complete this amazing look for a night out, opening and much more!
In our last week at looking at 5 accessories that are apart of my favorite ways to complete a look, we have to go super chic! This is perfect whether you're looking to get decked out for NYE, a gala or anything else where you need to look beyond phenomenal. Start off with a dress that definitely is a conversational piece from the moment that you walk into the room! When it comes to these pieces, there is no other designer to think about other than Donna Karan! I love this twisted jersey stretch dress which is very architectual in appearance; however, being the perfect way to look amazing in comfort. A dress like this doesn't need a lot of assistance but when it comes to true wow power, this look will look just amazing with my picks.
I don't talk about earrings a lot but I love Melinda Maria's Pod Collection Black Onyx Chandelier Pod Pave Earrings which add a textured look and a decadence as well. I'm obsessed with Lanvin's Pave Crystal & Rope Necklace which adds a regal element to the look. Slip on one of my fave designers, Stephen Dweck'sMother of Pearl cocktail ring which adds some levity to the pave and onyx portion of the look. Since you're dressing for an occasion, the shoes cap off the look of dazzle with Pierre Hardy's Circle Sandal which is a crystal encrusted suede shoe. Finally, I'm loving VBH's large envelope clutch which has a fab glimmer to it.Together or separate this is the epitome of neutral adoration.
I'm all about trailblazing! As my second fashion mom says (yes my mom is Queen Fashion from her style, knowledge and industry show how but I have another amazing fashion mom that I adore to pieces) "grass never grows under my feet"! So with that said, I'm never one to ask whether I should go about doing something and I always see opportunity but I am also very old school in some ways in that I love a man who takes the lead. I'm the girl who loves when Paul opens doors for me, reaches his hand out to help me out of the cab, pops my coat on and doesn't think twice about holding my bag when we leave events and I'm juggling things in my hands. So if we can enjoy his lead on this, when it comes to dressing for a bridal event, I love the idea of adding in elements of menswear to the look - if this tuxedo from Hugo Boss is any indication, we are definitely going to look amazing when it comes to going to our friend's formal weddings at night. But seeing that we are fab women, we need to add in elements of our personality!
First off, we take a lead with his look by rocking this amazing Rachel Zoe Jerry Tuxe Jumpsuit has that glam bond girl look mixed with 70's and uber glam. Fab on its own, rock it out completely with a fab pair of Christian Louboutin bronze glitter heels. I'm loving Tim Van Steenbergen's sash belt which adds a bit of the heritage of the orient into this look. Top it off with more bling with this amaze Dannijo Coco Silver Plated Swarovski Crystal Ring. You know I never wear earrings that much but this is absolutely amazing when you walk in a room and rock Miguel Ases earrings. I'm also loving Luisaviaroma's python clutch which has the fab finger detail which is perfect when you're carrying it throughout the venue. Finally, I'm loving Yves Saint Laurent's Multimedia necklace - love this piece as it's all about Mixed Media which I am a HUGE fan of and how can you not have your eyes drawn to this look time and time again?
It's all about keeping it simple. You know that sometimes your makeup routine is a little lighter as the days get hotter, the same can also apply to your apparel as well! When it gets toastier, my shorts get a little higher and and of course, I'm all about the perfect tank pairing! Today's look has a great ethical component to it! I'm loving Nicole Miller's collaboration with Indego Africa which has vibrant shorts. This cause allows the cute shorts to to have 15% go back to this group of people from Rwanda that represent over 250 artisans that are all about fair trade and social enterprise. In addition, I'm loving with this easy breezy sense of style that this Dream Weaver Wildfox Couture tank is so cute and perfect! I'd totally wear this to run errands, have brunch or just to get out and about. Of course, I'm loving that the accessories to cap it all off include this amazing large cuff that has crystals all over! Roberto Di Castro's piece is fabulous and of course these easy sandals which have braiding detail that caps off the entire look by Jessica Simpson. Ultimately, this is a great alternative to a romper (one of my fave summer looks) and is something you'll see me rocking when I am running around either personal shopping or securing looks for my upcoming shoots.
Life just happens and continues to move on. The best that you can do is to continue "keep walking" as my friend says. When you have no idea what you're doing or how it connects, just keep moving - if you stand still you won't be making any progress. For me, I have been walking, talking and just being out there and the past year has been amazing with traveling, connecting and just opening up to people new and old. If it works - I keep it and when it doesn't, I guess I keep walking. In the pictures above are people that I am around quite a bit whether it's in person or digitally but they are just a sprinkling of the cornerstones of who I happen to interact with and who keep me sane!
It's not to say that this is the only people as there are so many people and yet only a few areas that I can place images. The people in these pictures as well as those who aren't here but know who they are have seen me through the good, the bad and the ugly. It's times like this when I just came off a week with so much stress and yet received the keys to amazing opportunities where I tend to reflect (it doesn't happen much as I like to keep moving). Take some inventory of what you're doing. When I see these pictures I see more than events and places but I see times when people helped me and when I was there for them. I also see the areas where more of this will be taking place and it makes me excited. Some people in this picture I have known forever ( my sister is holding her puppy Jimmy Choo (aka Tumbleweed) and this was at Christmas at my home) and some I've known longer (my girl Shannon and I hanging out in Vegas this summer with our shennanigans), others I knew of but it was when fate brought us together that we both got to see the other in a new way (Crystal in the left hand column and to the left of me at my birthday - you know I obsess over her cookies) and many of the people in the remaining pics I have known recently and yet we have bonded (Damien, Emily, Niki, Christina and Shoshi)! But all of them are people that I love and take in as members of my family and I never have to search to far to find someone to bounce an idea off of or to just rehash a story! I love you all and 2010 will be that much more amazing because you're there! Big plans ahead and it wouldn't be the same without you guys and those that didn't make it into the post!
I guess life does have cycles. We do everything in stages only to race to a finish line. We spend 18 years to get good grades and to figure out where we end up in terms of who finished where within their class and we focus on getting into that school to do our race all over again but for shorter periods of time. This race ends and some continue on their education track while others dive into a career and yet there are many detours, stops and starts along the way but we're all on our grind hustling and trying to figure out where we're going. There's no rule book to success but the more you're out there, you're bound to get it. But where do we need to be and what is the holy grail of "it"? It can be a little daunting and at the age of 30 I find myself saying what is it that I want and how to reorganize some of my priorities as I need to make sure that I am taking care of myself. Taking care of myself does mean staying fit, eating right etc but it's to also remember that I am a multi-faceted person with various needs. Your body knows what it wants if you listen.
I had heard about S Factor from the beginning of me coming to NY but it took until earlier this year for me to go to an open house that Crystal at Tasty Morsels Bakery participated in at S Factor for me to see a demo that kept me in awe. To have the body control to do the amazing tricks that were done on the pole was definitely a mind bender and it was a few days later that I took the intro class. I love challenging exercises that stimulate the body and the mind and I had nothing but positive things to report on this site but life is interesting. A person can do the same activity within months of each other and gain a completely different experience. Fast forward to about 6 months or so later and I find myself with various colleagues within the blogging community at an Editors S Factor session (complete w 6" stilettos). The person sitting in this session is someone that has had a lot of personal growth over the past few months and not only realizes that she is closer to what she wants but wants more personal fulfillment as well. I want to know more about me and to hear me and today's session does just that.
Our S Factor session combined yoga, pole dancing and a dance routine while encouraging that hearing yourself is an essential tool to your growth within the various courses (they run 8 weeks but there are 6 levels and unlike most classes where the conclusion of all steps have a finality, you're able to continue to grow). Jill was one of our teachers (I was fortunate to have her as my teacher in a previous introductory course) and she is a power ball of energy, understanding and sisterhood. To be able to slow down is something that I have been thinking a lot more of and it has been something that fellow Editor, Keren has been telling me and all of us via her Project Detox series. Did I wake up feeling sore (absolutely - you have a lot of ab and lower back work to do all of the sensual things that you do in class) but did I feel empowered with the idea of working within a women's only studio and to hear nothing but positive affirmations? Absolutely. For those of us that work to do the impossible whether it's within our family, career goals, etc - we need to get out our emotions and to realize that beyond being fearless trailblazers, we are still women who have sensuality, femininity and qualities that set us apart not only from men but other women as we are individuals. I can't wait to start taking courses as a student and to create a sense of balance and to get in touch with areas that I may not focus on in my day to day but can within a 2 hour session. Whether you're doing a full on course, an express, focusing on lap dances and more - you're bound to find something that speaks to you. If you're interested in finding out about S Factor and your S, from now through Dec 1st of 2009, you can contact your local S Factor (they're in CA, IL, NY and TX) and use the code kitten09 to get 50% off of your introductory class.
I love it! Today, I'm resting from an amazing night out last night and since this is the first Sun of the football season, it has been quite a relaxing day! I'm so excited that people came out last night for my birthday from @db, @mizcity, @bigapplestyle, @tasty_morsels, @emilyspearl and @devintrix, @jakrose, @nikisnotes, @santagati and of course my non Twitter friends (meaning those who aren't on Twitter) Keren, Tessa (hubby John) and Oscar! It was such an amazing night at Sutra and a great way to ring in my birthday! For those who couldn't make it, you were there in spirit; however, one of my fave presents came from Crystal, founder of Tasty Morsels Bakery - check out the cookies and the one that looks like me!!! This is the best cookie ever!
We're having our second annual Lobster Broil at the condo and I'm super excited as it's nice to have it in October but it's much more fun when it's in June! I just got our invitations which are a mix of lobster and Madras shorts - images to follow soon! But more importantly, there are so many things to get when you're hosting a party that goes throughout the day and will have around 30 people there. The main event is lobster so here I have some of the essentials, the pot, lobster crackers (Crate & Barrel is such a must when you're having a gathering) and the lobster forks. Of course, Crystal of Tasty Morsels Bakery is not only coming but is supplying these cookies which are the cutest things ever! So glad that she's bringing them so that everyone can see how much of a hit they are!!! Whatever you're doing, make sure you have a theme and you stay true it. In addition, plan as much as you can in advance to guarantee that you get the most people possible for your event!
The past two weeks have been a blur; however, unlike my normal running around, it's awesome to know that you have someone else who is running a strong race even if you're not doing the same thing! So as you know, I obviously run this site and I am also a jewelry designer of my own line, Kitten Couture (and yes I assist companies in establishing their place within Social Media) and my friend Crystal (who is on the right of the pictures obviously) is the founder and cookie designer of Tasty Morsels Bakery. I feel like we have done so many events and have had so much going on that we stay in contact via email/gchat; however, as we hung out at the Pink & Black Tie Gala hosted by Stacy London for the American Cancer Society in Brooklyn (I covered it and provided a piece for auction while Crystal made over 250 cookies for the goodie bag), we were able to just hang out to eat, drink and dance!
No matter how crazy your days are and no matter how many events you go to for whatever reason, whenever you have the chance, make sure that you go out there and enjoy it with someone when you can! It's amazing how it adds a different perspective and allows you to drink in the moment! I have spent the past few years seriously pushing and moving forward and I'm at the point now where it's fun to be invited somewhere to see familiar faces and of course to bring my friend as well! Always remember to take a moment and of course to do it fashionably - we work hard so that we can truly enjoy our accomplishments!
Last night I enjoyed a fun evening at S Factor which was an open house/3 year birthday party. This is the infamous studio where you do pole dancing classes! I have to say that watching the demonstration made me want to join this class! This is a great way to stay fit, enjoy your body and of course to just enjoy having fun. I love the fact that it's an all women's group and really feel that it is an amazing opportunity if you have the chance to join. I have yet to join but think that I will try an introductory class without a doubt (thank you to those who showed me a few things - it was a lot of fun).
In addition to last night's event, there was a debut of Tasty Morsels Bakery which had the cutest cookies for this event. Since this was for S Factor, the cookies had corsets, frilly panties, lips and more. When I get these images, I will definitely let you guys know and update this post. Until then, if you are looking for tasty cookies with a great flavor and that can be customized, this is the bakery for you! It's perfect for events, corporate and anything else that you can imagine! The owner of this Brooklyn based bakery, Crystal Horton, is an artist which lends to the amazing creativity that she can do with her cookies! So, think about S Factor if you're in NYC and regardless of where you are, Tasty Morsels Bakery is the best place for you to find your sweet needs!
This show was definitely one that I was so excited to attend! I am such a fan of Tadashi's designs so as I sat there, I was so pleased to see Miss USA and Heather Schmid as well. As each design hit the runway, I was so glad that this was one of the shows that I was able to see on my birthday!
