Earlier this week, I headed over to the offices of HSN to check out a number of items that will be on today and tomorrow in conjunction with Disney's March 8th release of Oz the Great and Powerful! As you know, I'm a huge fan of HSN as I have appeared on the network a number of items on behalf of a brand and they have quite the history of creating special collaborations whether it's Snow White and the Huntsman or True Blood! The current event brings a number of designers (over 50 brands of fashion icons and HSN partners with over 400 products) together from fashion designer Naeem Khan, luxury accessories designer, Carol Brodie and makeup line, Urban Decay! It's amazing to see how designers and brands brought together various inspirations from the movies to the product assortments. You'll find motifs from the movie such as hot air balloons, all the way to items that reflect each of the witches of Oz - Theodora, Evanora and Glinda in the movie. If you're looking to bring this within your home decor, there are a number of items in this category as well. Visit HSN in order to see the times that these items are going on air over the next couple of days and then also go online to shop if you can't wait!
Last week a number of holiday windows went live in the city and I have to say that ot was with much anticipation that Barneys New York opened their windows with a number of celebs and fashion industry attendees. How can you not love Sarah Jessica Parker rocking Minnie's ears. We talked about Disney's Electric Holiday windows which brings Minnie Mouse and the gang through a fashionable exploration as well as having merchandise that is perfect for your inner child while also being amazing with its design aesthetic. Click the link to find out more about the windows and of course if you're here, check them out!
One of my favorite times of year is the holiday season with the launch of the windows. Barney's tops last year's Gaga's Workshop windows with having a full Holiday 2012 rollout where Disney and Barneys worked to create products, window installations, a short film and a 3D light show with a concept known as Electic Holiday (off of their Electric Parade). The project will be unveiled on Nov 14th! The nexus of the project will be a short film that will be screened in the windows at Barney's flagship on Madison Ave here in NYC. We find out the Minnie Mouse has a dream to model in Paris and hits the runway wearing none other than Lanvin, Goofy struts in Balmain, Daisy Duck saunters in Dolce & Gabanna and Mickey Mouse rocks it in Balenciaga!
Product offerings are fashion focused too with L'Wren Scott and Rag & Bone designed Mickey Mouse ears that will be sold in select Barneys stores around the holidays, and Diane von Furstenberg and Paul Smith created Mickey Mouse-shaped vinyl figurines.
As you know, I have spent the past few days in Florida! I began my press trip in South Beach at the Delano, hung out in Orlando with my bestie at the Happiest Place on Earth and then hanging out in Ft Lauderdale! I definitely needed some time away and anytime I'm in Florida, I'm always in awe of the fab colors and rich tones. I decided to bring in these coral, agate and turquoise pieces as they are so Florida! They remind me of my trip as I head back home and get closer to a number of trips that will be taking place over the next few days. These can be paired with jeans, maxis and so much more. They're also seasonless so don't feel like you can't wear them beyond the spring and the summer!
We interrupt our normal decor Sunday segments as I'm still traveling around in Florida. Disney was tons of fun and we're making our way to Ft Lauderdale! I love that this trip is all about being outside and having outfits that work to be out and about, on the beach as well as someplace to eat! With that in mind, I had to create a fun beach look. I love this Twist Front Bandeau Dress as it's easy to wear but more importantly, it can slip right over your bikini. With fab placed accessories, you're ready to hang out wherever the night takes you! It doesn't take much to bring out that effortless style and as I have always said, simpler is always better! Wherever you are, keep these tips in mind!
We're off to see the Mouse House today! Yesterday I said goodbye to the Delano and headed off to Orlando where my journey continues at the Waldorf Astoria on the park property! I have to admit that I have never stayed on property before so I was excited. For me, Disney is an iconic place. Growing up, I remember most of my friends had been to this theme park prior to my first time which is when I was in Middle School I believe. Once we hit the park, we would end up going every spring break right through high school! I never got tired of it and as long as my favorite ride was still there (The Haunted Mansion), I always got excited to go. There is something magical about this place and the last time I went, I was in college so I'm super excited to be heading there today. With it being so warm, I love wearing pieces that as you move, you can generate some of your own air conditioning. I have no idea how this day will end but I can say that it will be picture filled so I can't wait to share images on Flickr and throughout Facebook! Above is a fab look that's perfect to go to a theme park - an open dress, fab Havaianas (the fitted version are so cute), a hat is a must and of course a fab cuff to top off the outfit. If the cuff makes it a little too warm then think about wearing a light chain of some sort so that you're not sweaty as you're out and about!
Oh when I pack, I pack! Here is it that I will be away for about a week where I will be on a press trip in Miami for Schick, on to Mickey's House in Disney and then continuing on to Ft Lauderdale for some R&R! But before that, it takes me about a day to think about everything that I will be bringing with me. Today is a peek into my carry on bag! The bag is obviously familiar as it was used in my photoshoot for the Coach MYNY Fall campaign that is currently on their site for Fall! I'm loving that this bag will head to the airport with me! Now I had to show you some of the items that will be in my bag as they are my essentials!
In addition to my guilty pleasure of Life & Style, I will have Alphabet City by one of my new friends John Paul Buchmeyer which I am so excited to begin reading and is perfect when you're hanging out in the cabanas poolside! Because this trip is all about R&R I know that I will enjoy some bevvies so just in case I get a bit of a headache, I have some Migralex which is an organic headache medicine! When it get's too hot out there I love having my Dickinson's which keeps me cool and refreshed whether I'm getting out of a plane or turning over in my chair at the Delano! I get super thirsty on the way to the airport so I'm happy to have Drink Neuro with me which I will have Sleep with me as I have definitely been missing that over the past few weeks. I plan to be refreshed when I wake up from my slumber to hit the ground running when I head to Miami as there is much to do! With all the sun that I'll be soaking in, I need to have it in a safe way so Jane Iredale is coming strong with the SPF Translucent puff as well as the Lip Drink that has SPF in it as well! What else is in my bag? Well I'll let you know when I finish packing but I can't wait to finish. It'll have to wait as I'm on my way to Suffren, NY to Avon's R&D plant to learn about #LotusShine which is a new haircare product that will be available soon!
Wed I am heading to Florida! I'll hit 3 cities in a period of a week starting with South Beach for a fun press trip with Schick at the fabulous Delano! Now I have to say that usually I stay at Loews and it is my go to spot BUT I'm super thrilled to be staying at the Delano (it's a Morgans Hotel and I love the ones that they have here in NYC). I have to say that many times I have walked by the Delano and wondered how it would be to stay there. This trip is all about fun, hanging out with fab bloggers that I have befriended and some that I can call besties as well. Between the massages, lunches, dinners, etc we will be undertaking the serious business of working out as we all participated in Gina Lombardi's Deadline Fitness and staying smooth with Schick!
As my Florida trip continues, we'll stop in on Orlando for a visit to the "Happiest Place on Earth" and then of course on to Ft Lauderdale! The trip is about sun, fun and bikinis! In my opinion this is the best way to travel so here is one of my fave looks when it comes to hanging out in the cabana, poolside or at the beach!
We don't always have a lot of items for children on here but when we do, you know it's big (or that we have the Holiday Gift Guide!). As I sat in the theater watching previews prior to Michael Jackson's 'This is It', I was reminded that Disney's Princess and the Frog is coming out soon! I love Disney cartoons and am very fond of the princess series. A few months ago, I read in WWD that Carol's Daughter had received the license for a line of hair care products! So if you haven't seen it for yourself, take a peek and pre-order if you can as it is being offered as a limited edition! You can buy the Magical Beauty Collection as a set or items individually (shampoo, hair detangler, conditioner and bubble bath)!
