Trendy Thursdays ~ Silver Disco Beauty

As you're reading this, I'm already on my flight jetting to Charleston to style Expatriate Clothing for their runway show during Charleston Fashion Week. It's going to be a quick trip but definitely fun to be in a different environment for awhile. What I do love about traveling no matter how long it is, is that you can have a number of fun beauty items that you can try on when you're in a new climate. The same can be said when you're heading out for a fun night out, sometimes you start looking for or purchasing items that work within the theme that you're looking for when it comes to having a great night! Today's post focuses on silver and how fab it is to include in your look.

SHOE INSPIRATION

Today's look was inspired by these fabulous Christian Louboutin heels which are peep toe, wedges and espadrilles. Not only will you be in trend because they are snake embossed - but they're perfect to be worn with a number of looks. Since these are classic and timeless, you'll want to check out other items that are highly suggested.

GET THE BEAUTY LOOK

Roll over the images to find out why you need the above items to complete your beauty look! Whether it's beauty items, skincare or just ensuring that you're always put together, I think that you will find something that works for you! Silver is a great alternative to rocking gold looks (another alternative that you can consider is bronze).

Trendy Thursdays ~ Iridescent Beauty

I'm not into overt sparkle but a fab and subtle iridescence, I'm all about that without a question! I love that it translates well whether you're talking about day or night. These are some of my fave beauty items that look well on a number of skin tones and add a bit of pop to the overall look! Today's spread focuses on two of my favorite things - eyeshadow, which I typically do not wear but when I feel there is a need to be made up, this is my go to. The other, my essential beauty accessory - nail polish and as always preferred in a rich dark color with a bit of shimmer in it!

ACCESSORIES INSPIRATION

All of my faves are inspired by this fabulous Dara Ettinger Sharon Geode Sliced Cocktail Ring which has a great neutral with a fabulous mix of colors that bring out little elements of your personality and what you want others to know about you. As always my ring is one of my main accessories to rock as I think it's a great conversation piece and it sets the tone of my look and gives a lot of indication into my personality.

GET THE BEAUTY LOOK

Eyeshadow is something that I love but in my 5 mins get up and go routine, rarely do you see me rocking it day or night which is interesting as my eyes are definitely something that I focus on. But when it's a moment that I need to step it up whether day or night, you'll see me rocking mega notice me eyeshadow OR when I am doing my appearances or segments. I am a huge fan of what is called the Marble look. This is because it's fun to mix it with other hues when I'm feeling my inner makeup artist and yet I can just wear it on its own as it's already infused with a number of hues. Nobody does it better then Laura Geller with her Baked line. I have been wearing it for years and I feel it's an essential. Other faves include Giorgio Armani's Maestro quad eyeshadow - which has a great pop of blue and I love that charcoal hue which is one of my faves to wear. For their take on marbelized, Armani Beauty's Eyes to Kill has a great golden tone with a pop of bronze. Bobbi Brown has a fab metallic hue as well which is more of a gold - think fun disco chic. Finally everyone needs that bronze look as worn alone it smouldering and when layered with other eyeshadows it's super decadent! Nars' eyeshadow in cream is an essential within my cosmetic case.

When it comes to nail polish, you'd laugh if you saw how many colors I have and how many hues I have that are only slightly different from one another. I have a series of colors that I love to wear and they all tend to be in the dark spectrum but the amount of variety that I have within this area is pretty eye opening. In terms of variety, there are hues that I have that I tend not to wear unless it is being requested by someone for something that I'm working on. For those that like a great neutral, Deborah Lippmann which is Naked. A great toned down gold shimmer is Essie's Good as Gold. Now of course, when I'm not asked to wear a specific hue, then I love going to my faves. Butter London is one of my favorite brands to wear (but you'll also see me rocking the other two as I think they have great coverage, last for a great amount of time and they look AMAZING). They have such a range of color and this fabulous green shimmer has the bling effect with a great rich hue. If I'm not in a high shimmer/rich hue then I will go the other way with a color that is so dark that it has tones of black in it with a shimmer so it doesn't have a matte effect.

Trendy Thursdays ~ Beauty Hits the Red Carpet

A great color in your favorite accessory is also a nod towards a hue that could work with you in your makeup routine! With the Oscars taking place this weekend, there are bound to be a number of beauty looks that will be great takeaways. We'll be tweeting the looks of the runway on Sunday starting at 1:30pm EST and would love for you to share what you're looking forward to seeing, what you think will be trending or what you thought should have been added!

ACCESSORIES INSPIRATION

Personally, I'm loving Coral! This hue has quite a range as it can be a bold vibrant color as you would find in this Giuseppe Zanotti heels which is a vibrant pink with a slight red element in it all the way down to a hue that has more of a dust rose/dust blush in a toned down version of coral like these Steve Madden heels which are perfect to accent your fab pedi and ankles!

GET THE BEAUTY LOOK

With such a wide range and so many options (I don't even want to tell you how many lipglosses, shadows and blushes I have within this range of hues), there are a number of ways to bring this look into your face to warm up your skin and to create the sunkissed look that I love wearing when I am on TV segments or that you see your fave celebs rocking. With the nail polishes, if you're going to go coral it has to be bold and although Essie has a number of polishes within this hue that are just slightly different from one another but still having major impact, this one in Geranium is a fave without a doubt! This is perfect for the days of being out and about, hitting the beach and just a fun color in general.

The lips are an essential when I'm on air as I love to do a lip cocktail (mixing a number of shades together to get the perfect pout). Within lipglosses, I'm loving Glazed Lips in Sheer Deep Coral and I love the subtle nature of DuWop's Venom Gloss Coral Tree. For the ultimate in lip color, Yves Saint Laurent has the perfect stain in Extreme Coral. For a shade that's in the middle of vibrant and subtle hues, Tom Ford's True Coral is a great option as well. Line your lips or fill it in as a layer with Colorescience's lip pencil in Coral Life's a Peach.

It's all about the cheeks and having those amazing cheek bones with great blush. For subtle style mavens I suggest Bobbi Brown's Coral blush which has a bit of shimmer. For those who wish to go bolder, I suggest Revlon's Photo Ready Cream Blush in Coral Reef. As a side note, I use a number of corals on my cheeks so those with mid to darker skin tones shouldn't be afraid to have blush that fits in the dark pink to berry tones. In many cases, I actually mix is in with a bronze hued bronzer to tone it down so you have the hint of pink or coral hue coming out which makes your skin look illuminated!

Trendy Thursdays: Via Our Experts ~ Celebrity Manicurist Jade Morales

Today is officially NYFW FW2013, so you know a number of posts will be on here covering backstage, runway shows, presentations, parties and more. With it being NYFW and next week (on this very day) being Valentine's Day, we had to reach out to Celebrity Manicurist Jade Morales (at Oprah's HARPO Studios, you would find her doing celebs nails) to ask how we can have our hands ready for this week as well as the day of love! Here she provides some tips. Although she is Chicago based and can be found at George The Salon (which has signature manicure services) and the Four Seasons!

Valentine's Day Manicure Tips

Making the Cut: Cutting your own cuticles before your manicure is a big no no. It's so easy to cut so much more than you have to. Note to self, leave it to the nail technician.

Polish Away: Pre and post manicure, the guest should not have to do anything. A good nail technician should be able to do everything for the guest starting with removing any old polish to perks like customized scubs and massages. Just bring yourself and enjoy the manicure.

French Kiss: A french manicure is an elegant and classic way to wear your nails. For polish perfection, start with Essie's base coat followed by 1 coat of Adore-A-Ball by Essie then Blanc by Essie for the tip with another coat of Adore-A-Ball by Essie over that finished with a top coat of Seche Vite.

Smooth as Silk: Opt for a special scrub during your manicure to ensure oh so soft and touchable hands. Right now, I am loving the Organic Sugar Olive Oil Scrub I am doing for clients. The olive oil is super hydrating for the skin since its oleic acid helps to soften and the vitamin E improves elasticity. The sugar exfoliates to get rid of any dead skin cells which results in smooth glowing hands.

Make it Last: It's always good to apply a top coat 2 or 3 days after your manicure so it can last longer. A quick dry top coat always helps.

Trendy Thursdays ~ My Look Via Drugstores

The other week, I shared what my go to looks are when it comes to my beauty routine! Many of my favorites are not those that can be found at a drugstore; however, in a pinch whether I need something right now and don't have it within my sample closet, can't make it to Sephora or am in a new city where I'm no where close to anything, I need to make it happen by visiting a Duane Reade/Wallgreen's equivalent. Foundation is always a tough one. For a million years I was a MAC Studio Fix N9 girl and for almost two years I have been a Dior Gelee 070 girl. So I generally get this at Saks or at Sephora and when I can't get there I mix a number of CoverGirl shades together from the Queen collection to get my look. I prefer eyeliners that feel like a soft crayon but when I can't use my preferred (Urban Decay or Avon) brands, I can pick up Wet n' Wild which is more of a pencil but at least I get the bold black look. When it comes to mascara, Maybelline is a great go to and I love mixing it even now with my Dior Show! Pop Beauty has a great blush/bronze palette that allows me to mix hues since I like a rose/honey hue on my cheeks. Although I'm a Butter London girl, I have quite a few Essie bottles! Here in NYC, they're in a number of salons and I always ensure that I have some on hand. Finally, my lips must be soft and I apply gloss and balm so many times! When I can't have my preferred items, I go old school. How many of us started our lip balm journey with Chapstick - it's an oldie but goodie!

Trendy Thursdays ~ Beauty Basics For July

I'm always being asked what I love in terms of beauty items. This includes a number of items that I use a lot versus those that are new to me but are definitely in my routine! I have been a fan and am obsessed with Koh Gen Do which in addition to having a fab beauty line, they have a number of skincare items that are a must. I have enjoyed using their Body and Bath Body Milk as well as their Body Wash which is like having a spa treatment to start and end your day. When it comes to the face, I love L'Occitane exfoliating gel. For a quick rinse (especially in this heat) I suggest Shobha's rosewater cleansing cloths which I love whether I'm getting my brows threaded at their salon or as a refresher. When it comes to my lips, when I am keeping it simple - Evolution of Smooth is the perfect solution and super addictive. Finally, I love a good dark nail color and when I'm not rocking hues by Butter London, you can find me in Essie this hue is Wicked.

Trendy Thursdays: London 2012 Olympics ~ Bold Hues Hit the Olympics

Suitsupply, for the third year in a row, will be dressing the Dutch Olympic and Paralympic team and their entourage! Their head designer, Murray Coetzee designed the above four looks which we will see next week during the opening ceremony. There is a nod within its style to iconic English sports and being trimmed by the colors of the Dutch flag. How cute is the oversized tulip just to remind you that this is the fkower of the dutch! How can you not love the tennis blazers and cricket cable knits. If you check out other portions of this collection which can be purchased, there are badges decorated with British landmarks.

In addition to loving the looks and wanting the trench coat! I would definitely suggest these fun hues if you're looking to rock a little orange and blue while watching the Olympics Opening Ceremony next week. As you know, I'm a huge fan of all shades Butter London and on my other days, Essie as these bring in both of the hues that these Olympians are wearing for their country.

Trendy Thursdays ~ From Lip to Nails

A perfect lip and a fabulous manicured hand is an essential no matter where you are off to! When it comes to lips, you want to ensure that your lips look soft and supple! This is achieved with Jane Iredale which has a Suggar and Butter dual lip care! I love the brown sugar which serves as an exfoliant to your lips. On days where you want a subtle pout, you can use the color that is on the other end of this tool. On days where I want a pop use LAQA & Co which has these Fat Lip Pencils that cover your entire lip - this hue is perfect alone or can be paired with Butter London's Lippy which are lip glosses that have a nail twin! By layering them together you have the mix of a matte versus gloss. On the days that you decide to be twinsies with yourself, Butter London has the nail polish to match with Lippy!

When it's time to talk nails, I love nail pads and suggest Essie as it will assist you in removing your polish. Apply a fun hue such as Black Night by Butter London and then ensure that your hands are super soft by using shea lotion from L'Occitane

Swoonfest Saturdays: Events ~ Duane Reade Look

Last night, I made my way down to Duane Reade's Look Boutique 40 Wall St location as Christine Tsang of Tineey.com was one of the bloggers hosting this event as she is apart of their VIP Blogger Program. This location is housed in what was a bank which is why it's such an expansive space with fabulous archways. In addition to being able to shop for many of your favorite brands, there are products that are exclusive to Duane Reade Look Boutique such as Gosh Cosmetics (Denmark based and very popular in Europe; however it is exclusive to Duane Reade in terms of being in the US). In addition, they have an eyebrow station, lash station, hair salon (blow outs, wash - this isn't for a color or other types of intensive treatments, nail salon (polish change and with OPI and Essie products). I love that the nail salon area is actually housed in what was Davd Rockefeller's office which still has the mantle that is original to the space. In addition, there are Swarovski Chandeliers throughout the Look Boutique and even in the fireplace of David Rockefeller's former office!

It was a great event to see what Duane Reade is doing within their stores regardless of whether it's a Look Boutique or a regular store. Definitely check out these special stores as they are sprinkled throughout the city and even your local Duane Reade may have unique options that will make your day to day a lot easier.

Trendy Thursdays ~ Jetset Beauty

Everyone loves when we have long days and warm nights! Nothing is better then having the opportunity to have a staycation (hello having the opportunity to stay at a friend's penthouse) or to head out to the Hamptons or wherever your destination takes you! Now whether you're thinking that you should say thank you to your friend's generosity of giving you a change of scenery OR you want to thank your guests for coming all the way to you - I rounded up some must have items that are not only easy to throw in your tote but will make you look amazing and are fun to share!

In the upper hand corner, I'm loving the refreshing Clean and Clear Morning Burst which has a fab citrus smell to it! This is also great for unisex sharing as well. If you're gifting, you can throw in this vibrant Essie and a complementary hued eyeshadow, by Maybelline, as eyes look phenom in shades of green regardless of the skin tone! On the right hand corner, we love making sure that your hair looks phenomenal and I love olive oil so this shampoo and conditioner is perfect by Palmer's. I'm a huge fan of Palmer's as a cocoa butter for the body so why not continue using this fab brand for as much as possible! Of course, to make sure your girls look phenomenal this is a fab very pale robin's egg color by Essie - once again perfect for sharing!

Finally, we always need to have more items in our beauty arsenal so why not ensure that everyone's lips and eyes look phenom by having Rimmel London on hand! I'm loving the eyeshadow which is perfect for the weekend as you can make a number of sexy cat eyes with this look as well as their Moisture Renew which comes in a number of hues with SPF that is included! It's all about keeping it simple and beautiful!

Fashionable Fridays: Day 8 Spring 2011 ~ I Strut at Lincoln Center For Essence.com

Fashion Week is a lot of fun and one of the best times is when you're in the open areas just hanging out. Now I have met Tia Williams, Beauty Editor at Essence.com a few times. As I had just moved away from the Essie booth, Tia asked to see my strut. Now on this day, I had just left the Tory Burch show I believe and had on one of my fave maxi dresses with my Swarovski Crystal Havaianas! But towards the middle of the video, you'll see me strutting as that's what one does when they're at one of the biggest Fashion Week events of the year!

Trendy Thursdays ~ Countdown to Summer

I have a new obsession and it's called Townhouse Spa. I kicked off last week with one of my first pre summer mani/pedi sessions. I have always had conversations with Jeannine friend and Editor in Chief of Beauty Sweet Spot about her amazing experiences at her favorite spa. So with a little downtime between appointments, I finally headed over and fell in love with my favorite spot! Now you guys know that for years I have also went to Dashing Diva as there were various locations around town and I loved the super cute pink vibe; however, I was so relaxed with the luxe wood an enjoyed my chair massage as I got my pedicure that I decided that this would be my new location to come.

After a morning of heading over to Jimmy Choo for an Editor appointment and more to follow, I sipped my cucumber infused water and felt as calm as I could have possibly felt during the hectic week! In fact, I was super pleased to be reconnected with Essie as it was also available at various salons I would go to prior to Dashing Diva and of course if you're in between sessions, you can get at your local Duane Reade. So as a rule, I picked a fab pink shade and great deep tone for a pedicure!

Whether you're looking for an amazing spa (and they have a variety of services that are available) or you have your favorite place that you love visiting when it comes to getting your nails done - there is something so peaceful when you're able to take time for yourself either alone of friends in one of summer's biggest rituals!
