When it comes to seeing an amazing runway show, a photoshoot or any other presentation it's not just the designer, the model and creative director but there are also the makeup artists as well as hair dresses. They are the essence to all of these things coming together. Growing up, if you asked me what I would do (even in college), it wouldn't be what I do now and if I had had an interest in cosmetology, it would not have been received well. Interestingly enough, the people that I get giddy about chatting with are always photographers, hair stylists and more. If I had a child of mine tell me that they wanted to work in this industry I would be thrilled but I'd say it's competitive but you can do well. With a fab client base mixed in with repeat customers, celeb clients and influencers - you can have a salon, product extensions and spots on TV. The other day, I stood in the Ted Gibson Salon waiting for the amazing announcement. I had no idea whether it was product based but I found out that The American Association of Cosmetology Schools had partnered with celebrity hairstylist Ted Gibson as a spokesperson to Launch “Beauty Changes Lives”. This campaign aims to raise awareness for careers in beauty and wellness. When I think about how many times we all talk about our hairstylists, makeup artists and more this initiative is going to lead the way for those coming up that will need all these resources and more.
