Trendy Thursdays ~ My Look Via Drugstores

The other week, I shared what my go to looks are when it comes to my beauty routine! Many of my favorites are not those that can be found at a drugstore; however, in a pinch whether I need something right now and don't have it within my sample closet, can't make it to Sephora or am in a new city where I'm no where close to anything, I need to make it happen by visiting a Duane Reade/Wallgreen's equivalent. Foundation is always a tough one. For a million years I was a MAC Studio Fix N9 girl and for almost two years I have been a Dior Gelee 070 girl. So I generally get this at Saks or at Sephora and when I can't get there I mix a number of CoverGirl shades together from the Queen collection to get my look. I prefer eyeliners that feel like a soft crayon but when I can't use my preferred (Urban Decay or Avon) brands, I can pick up Wet n' Wild which is more of a pencil but at least I get the bold black look. When it comes to mascara, Maybelline is a great go to and I love mixing it even now with my Dior Show! Pop Beauty has a great blush/bronze palette that allows me to mix hues since I like a rose/honey hue on my cheeks. Although I'm a Butter London girl, I have quite a few Essie bottles! Here in NYC, they're in a number of salons and I always ensure that I have some on hand. Finally, my lips must be soft and I apply gloss and balm so many times! When I can't have my preferred items, I go old school. How many of us started our lip balm journey with Chapstick - it's an oldie but goodie!

Treasure Tuesdays ~ Sunset Summers

Roll your mouse over the images to find out more details

With the summer quickly coming to an end, you have to do something special whether it's going out with your girls, having a rooftop dinner with your honey and more. I'm loving that this dress is perfect by starting off with Roberto Cavalli and to have fun accessories inccluding Nancy Gonzalez, Gucci watch and Brown Sapphire as well Opaque Sapphire from Eva Fehren and Jamie Joseph. I love the fact that this cuff is a fab way to add a bit of bling with this Federica Rettore and of course complete the look with these stunning heels with Rene Caovilla.

Trendy Thursdays ~ Your Go To Beauty Boost

The change in temperatures whether they are rising and dropping in NYC or my travel schedule makes temperatures change drastically, I know that I have to turn to way more preventative care to ensure that I can be everywhere I need to be. First off, your throat is everything, rock OTTE with this fab grey infinity scarf which adds depth, texture and warmth so that you don't have to be concerned about being exposed. I am obsessed with the fun pack that I received from Burt's Bees which came in time since yesterday I felt a bit of a chill coming on. I love the medicated lip balm which has eucalyptus in it, the honey throat drops and most importantly, the aloe and witch hazel hand sanitizer! These are perfect when you're in the office to ensure that you have what you need to fortify yourself! Increase your tea consumption by getting some of your fave blends by popping into places such as Sur La Table for Steven Smith Teamaker Lord Bergamot (obsessed with this tea without a doubt). I find that whether you're at home or in the office, you need to have a go to mug and I'm loving this one from MoMA. Sometimes I feel when I am fortifying to stay healthy, that I may smell slightly medicinal which isn't sexy - so definitely check out L'Occitane's Green Tea perfume which is refreshing but will make you therapeutic. Finally, head home or close your office door and enjoy Pommegranate Noir which is available at Jo Malone. Together you're staying healthy while looking fab and many of these items can still be used even when you're feeling at your most ultimate state.

Trendy Thursdays: Notes From Paris ~ Wonder Women

Notes from Paris is a series of posts from Valerie Nahmias, Beauty Editor of Femina Magazine in Paris as well as running Beauty Kid (love it). Brought together by our mutual friend and fashion photographer, Franco Lacosta, her posts are featured on beauty as it relates to a discerning demographic, kiddies! Last time, Valerie talked about L'Occitane and how this scent was perfect for kids and their parents! Today she continues with her Beauty Kid focus and shares some fab cosmetics and I'm loving the Wonder Woman collection from MAC.

Two skin care products and a small red jar provides their talent in the service of our beauty. This is not only reserved for wonder women and great moms, but also for all those who want to irradiate in a quick gesture.

I speak about two exceptional formulas, one, from Avène, full of fresh thermal water, is formulated for sensitive skin. It manually exfoliates dead cells without assaulting the skin. A bit of product, drop of water, a mini hand massage and it is done, the skin is purified! The next product, Carrefour, is the Beauty Kid favorite within skin care! A very interresting innovative concept. Its high tolerance formula contains organic honey, hydrolat of organic camomile and calms the skin but especially, it is sterilized UHT, (Ultra High Temperature)... same as milk!!! This is how it includes no preservatives. As a result, all the family can use it. This is the most natural proposition of Summer 2011. Say "ciao" to paraben and natural replacement preservatives and welcome UHT!!!

What about the lip colored Balm form MAC Cosmetics? This is the ally of mat complexions! I also apply it to the top of my cheekbones, at the level of the bone, by tapping the skin with the fingertip. Contrary to what you may think, its texture is more glowy than glossy. Although it may seem thick, it illuminates the skin like a baby's face.

My final word - forget about mascara! Let's take control over our beauty and be real, simple or nothing at all!

Valerie is the Beauty Editor of Paris' Femina Magazine and it's blog Redaction Beaute and has spent her years in the fashion/beauty industry. She was an assistant at French Elle Magazine for Carine Roitfeld (who recently left French Vogue as Editor in Chief) and wrote the book, Pour Etre Belle.

Snazzy Sundays ~ Falling Fur Fall

I have to say that I am obsessed over this look without question. My obsessions begins with the fact that I am in a huge Jean transition. For the past 2 years, I have drooled over and rocked Hudson Jeans exclusively and then I slipped on a pair of Joe's Jeans at the last minute and the love affair began! I had always heard about their Honey Cut and now I never want to take them off kittens! The Honey is meant for those of us that have those fab curvy butts and I have to say that it looks pretty amaze and I will be combing the racks to continue to add to my Honey/Joe's love affair.

As I mentioned in my Betty Confidential interview, fur is definitely something that has always been in fashion but is definitely a focus within my wardrobe this season. This is such an easy look as it can be outerwear as well as the actual main focus of the look (you can rock henley's, tees and so much more). I love this mixed grey, black, cream fur vest by Ines & Marechal and as many people know, I love belts and this one by Givenchy is so fab that it simply has to be paired together. Pair it up with some fab over the knee wedge boots (stellar); however, all boots are not the same. My current drool worthy brand is Camilla Skovgaard as it's like art when you step and I love the boho chic vibe that it provides. Expect to see a lot more shoes from this brand included within future posts and once you have secured them, you can rock the rest of the look with accessories. I got some time to hang out at the Robert Verdi Fashion Week Lounge and reconnected with one of my fave accessories brands - Linea Pelle! This bracelet is a great way to wrap up the look and then pop on a ring. I'm obsessed with Sandra Dini as It's all about nuvo glam which is my favorite look to rock as it's natural, glam and fab!

Snazzy Sundays ~ Warm From the Inside

It's chilly out there and when it isn't chilly, the rain tries to keep you indoors. When this happens and I know I plan on getting work done, I love sipping tea throughout the day. I like to have the biggest cup possible and to sample various blends. No sugar is needed as I'm a fan of honey! When it comes to getting the perfect tea setup, make sure that you have some of your favorite cups, continue to buy various tea blends of interest, get a great tea pot and of course find some honey. These are items that will get you through chilly days and nights and this also makes a great gift for the holidays, housewarmings and more. Take some time to click around to have your cupboards stocked!

Sippin Saturdays: THINK CITRUS ~ Citrus Lavender Martini

Top_level_lavender First off, Happy March - we are that much deeper into the winter (which hasn't been too bad if you're in the NYC area), we're about to "spring forward" in time and of course the summer is that much closer (ah flip flops and shorts - have we really been parted this long)? So with that in mind, the Kitten Lounge is launching it's month long theme - THINK CITRUS. For the entire month of March, we're carrying you through this season with thoughts of citrus. We will be infusing your homes, wardrobe and palate with all things that are citrus! So if you think you have something that fits within this taste or within the color scheme - you'll find it right here.

Now, on to raising a glass. This recipe, which was found on Cocktail Times, combines my three loves: citrus, lavender and of course martinis. This definitely something that is aromatic to the senses and is also a great way to learn a new drink that is perfect for gatherings at your home or an event that you will be attending.

Citrus Lavender Martini

Ingredients:
- 1 wedge fresh orange
- 2 fresh lavender leaves (or 5 - 6 pieces dried lavender)
- 1 1/2 oz Level vodka
- 1/2 oz Cointreau
- 1/2 oz Sweet & Sour mix
- 1 tbsp honey
- 1 packet of sugar in the raw

Muddle orange wedge and lavender at the base of the shaker (or a mixer). Add vodka, Cointreau and sweet and sour mix over ice in the shaker. Shake well and strain the mixture into a chilled martini glass. (Optional: Rim martini glass with honey and dip rim in sugar)

Mingling Mondays ~ Illy

CoffeecansI am familiar with Illy in that I have seen their products and that they have retail locations in the city but I had never thought about trying out the coffee. In fact I have become a tea enthusiast within the last year. Prior to this change, I was all about Starbucks when it came to their Vanilla Soy Latte, Green Tea Soy Latte and any Green Tea beverage that I could get my hands on. This all changed when I was introduced to the most amazing Vanilla Honey Latte on vacation - I realized that coffee does have a distinct taste and clearly, I have been missing out. Thankfully my friend who is a fan of Illy not only agreed that this coffee was good but encouraged me to try out Illy. I have yet to try it but they have one at the Sony building - so this week I will have to give it a try - I completely see coffee in a new way. I also love that this location has a lot of seating and is perfect to meet with people prior to, during or after work!

Mingling Mondays ~ Isabella's

Logo_2 The night before Thanksgiving, I ended up going to an amazing restauraunt that had a great vibe. Isabella's which is located on the UWS, sat right by the park where at around 10ish we saw balloons getting inflated for the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. Isbaella's is apart of the B.R. Guest Restaurants which also owns Blue Water Grill, Ocean Grill, Dos Caminos, Atlantic Grill, Ruby Foos, etc. I must say that that night we enjoyed the best Honey Pear drink which has presseco and pear vodka - amazingly refreshing birthday. In addition, I enjoyed the seared salmon, new england clam chowder (love the pumpernickel croutons) and blood orange sorbet - so good. Although I had never been here before (my friend and I had popped in the weekend before for brunch - but it was super busy), this has quickly become one of my fave spots. I think this is a great place to go for brunch or for a nice dinner as well.
