Mingling Mondays ~ HSN: It's Here!

I am super excited! It seems like I have been talking about it forever but I woke up to 20 degree weather here in NYC and by later this afternoon, I will be rocking in 75 degree temperature and relaxing in my hotel room waiting for my HSN air date on Wed 23rd for my 2am, 7am and 3pm slots! It's another project with Sebago and I will take you through their cute collection that has been curated for their premier appearance! As always I will be providing behind the scenes images, videos and more. To kick it off, I wanted to give you a sneak peek of my carry on bag. For those who know about my obsession with Hello Kitty and my love of Matchta Cream Puffs by Beard Papa - you'll notice that they have a fun collab and I will be rocking this bag in the Terminal 5 Jet Blue section!

I no longer carry my Travel Cow Mookie with me when I fly, starting this year, I have Chompy the alligator who is apart of the beanies collection. Something whimsical to calm me down. My iPad is protected by my Rebecca Minkoff cover (and I love my matching coin purse). My laptop is also with me for items that can't necessarily be done on the iPad. I still keep it retro with a stack of magazines (and my need to scour through West Elm with a new apartment to furnish). I even have a little black book for quick topics to jot down, my lip balm that never fails me and of course a small assortment of product in my cosmetic bag - all FAA approved in terms of their size! Of course, I still have my iPod with me (charging) as well as my HTC phone so I am all set and teched out! You'll hear from me later on today and stay tuned by reading the posts this week about HSN and of course you can follow and tweet me @CocoaBebe!

As you know I will be on HSN for Sebago's Spring 11 collection but I launched my line of shoes in my Kitten Lounge x Sebago collaboration for Fall 11/Cruise Collection. They have had amaze reviews in Berlin, Vegas and this weekend right here in NYC - check it out!

Fashionable Fridays ~ Movember Workdays

What a week! There has been a lot going on and with it being holiday season, there is more on the way to be sure. I relish the days when I can stay home and get through tons of work and squeeze in a few conference calls. On days like this, it's all about being comfy and nothing is more work ready for me then rocking my love of grey with boyfriend pants which are perfect for laying around the house and answering the door as packages make their way to me via messenger. The Mo Fedora Tee is apart of Palmer Cash's cool collection of tees that are apart of their Movember movement. This initiative is all about purchasing tees within this collection where $10 goes towards the fight against prostate cancer. Did you know that 32,000 men a year are affected by this? So join in by purchasing a tee or joining a team which Kitten Lounge has a Movember team that you can join! Join the fight and rock amazing style and on the off chance that I head out of the house since it's super chilly out there - I want to keep my iPod protected with the super cute hoodie.

Trendy Thursdays ~ His Style is Sporty Fresh

There is nothing better then a guy that's fit whether you're built like Daniel Craig (Mr 007) or simply stay in a decent build, I definitely love seeing a guy with a gym bag who actually uses it. It always makes me wonder what they carry in there as they go from taking off their hipster, wall street or preppy gear and slip on sneakers and their iPod to get into their routines. As a side, I have to say that recently, David Beckham was seen in the Adidas Originals shoes above having dinner with his family. Not only did he look fit but we all know he's pretty fab. While you could be hitting it at the gym or in Any Park, USA - this doesn't mean that you can't bring some items to not only freshen up in but those that really make you smell amazing! Above are items that I envision as the perfect compliment to a well done workout!

During Fashion Week, many of you may remember the video that was captured by Kitten Lounge about Decleor which has a men's line. What I loved was that many of the notes smelled like cloves, thyme etc. There is nothing better then smelling great while having that natural aroma which isn't overwhelming. The product line is extensive but after a workout which leaves you looking aglow, you can continue to revitalize the skin with this! Acqua di Parma's new scent has a bottle that is a shape of a tuxedo but has that great spicy sophistcated "manly smell". Of course hair is always an issue so Axe keeps it simple by having shampoo and a styling aid. Finally, lip care is essential - if you're guy be he friend, lover or family has always been shy about this - no shine is his friend. Having coverage keeps his lips soft for all the places they go and there is no excuse for not using it. His bag is full of goodies that keep him in shape and also desirable after he's done!

Snazzy Sundays ~ Crystal Glams Your iPod & iPhone

Last week I was sent the best gift ever! If you want a little decadence for the everyday, how about charging your iPod, iTouch or iPhone in one of four docks from Crystal Dock? Starting as low as $199 and up (there is a version where they make limited quantities), you can have your favorite technology charge in this uber chic dock! Above, you'll see my iPod as I don't have an iPhone (unfortunately, my My Touch can't charge on this dock). I love that this looks great, that whether you have the Aurora, Beau, Celestia (what I have) or the Dune, each version has different etchings. Also note that every one of these docks are handcrafted and when you visit the site, you can learn a lot more about this process. Simply put your phone into the dock, then take your USB cord and attach it to the back of the dock and connect it into your USB port. You're all set! When you receive this in the mail, it comes in a cute box and your piece is suspended in foam as each of these pieces are packed with white gloves on! I love this bit of luxury and can't thank Crystal Dock enough for sending one! Check out the site as these make great gifts!

Trendy Thursdays ~ Project Detox: The Meal of the Moment

In an ongoing series, Keren Weinstein, our Guest Life-Balance Editor, took a much needed trip. More than the need to go on vacation to a new locale, she wanted to find her own sense of balance and thus Project Detox began. Last week, we realized that a scent can calm us and create its own memory of peace and tranquility! Today, Keren brings us to the perfect moment with a meal.

I’m a young girl at a family function when I notice my L.A. based uncle sitting by the patio with the sun shining on his face. He is eating something from the fruit tray. By the looks of it one might think he was eating a slice of heaven. I immediately dart over.

‘Taste this Fig’ he says. Still standing I take a small bite and begin chewing. As if the faster I chew the quicker, I too, will taste.

‘Whoa. Slow it down. He tells me.

Sit down. Close your eyes.

Now take another bite.

Roll it in your mouth and let it touch the different taste buds.

Smell the experience.

Feel the texture & sensation.

Taste.’

(Wow. Was that the SAME Fig?) I recall opening my eyes & needing a moment just to snap back.

This was my first experience with Mindful Eating. I confess. Originally, I wrote it off as his ‘California’ way of eating.

And I was New York.

Fast forward to Project Detox where I am on the hunt to infuse balance into my every day life. When I see an activity called Mindful Eating I immediately sign up. The curiosity. The nostalgia. The craving for another Miraval-esque experience.

And after being gently slumber I woke up reborn. Hungry like a baby.

We sit with an appetite and an open mind in the dining room. Table set for about 20 guests. (Eating & mingling. Perfect!). Amongst us sits Junelle, the nutritionist. As she guides us through the meal with tips and teachings along the way, we quickly realize that the Only mingling was going to be with our inner selves and with the food!

We are not to talk to each other. We are to focus on the act of eating. Take a moment to notice our surroundings. The setting. The plate. The color and consistency of the food. To take a bite and feel the texture and temperature of the food in our mouths. Acknowledge the process of chewing and swallowing. The pause in between. Notice the after taste. Breathe.

It was challenging (& a bit awkward) to eat quietly in lieu of being amongst new friends but the greater the challenge the greater the reward. In no time did I learn about my personal relationship with food. About eating intuitively.

We were all shocked at how much food was left on our plates when we felt full and how delicious the experience was. The French know this. Quality over Quantity. They are thin.

It makes sense. Your brain receives a signal from the body through the central nervous system that you are hungry, eating and full. If your mind is ‘multi-tasking’ or rushing through a meal then there is no mind-body connection. You then miss the essential flavors and pleasures of the food & your digestion efficiency is decreased (and how ironic that IBS and stomach disease is on the rise). Plus, your brain may miss the messages that you are even eating - let alone full.

It may still think you are hungry. You continue eating.

No skinny jeans for you.

Our lives are in high-speed. If on-the-go we can talk, text, trade stocks, email, shop and for just about Anything…’there’s an App for that’, then you KNOW eating on-the-go must have been mastered way before that. Long ago in the U.S. eating has been defaulted as ‘another task to do on our list’. We eat meals while working at our desks, driving, watching TV, even walking.

OK, clearly we cannot eat every meal in silent focusing on the act of eating. Dinner with friends & family is Critical and there are times we simply must eat on-the-go. But between eating 3 meals and about 2 snacks per day, we have over 35 opportunities a week to attempt it. In between it all, we Can balance a sense of well-being with our high speed culture.

The picture above is my son ‘E’ at my favorite lunchtime-waterfall-escape-spot in NYC two blocks from my office. It’s important to me he learns the importance of mindful eating early on. No write offs this time.

Most cities are packed with many public parks, gardens, waterfalls, etc. and with an iPOD you can be staging moments for your meals just about anywhere. Another trick is to at least eat the first bite of every meal mindfully to set the tone. Putting your fork down in between bites really does help (thanks Junelle).

Book time on your calendar to eat mindful meals. Treat it with the importance of a business meeting or a trip to the doctor. This is time for you. A much needed break. A reconnection.

Slow down. Become aware. Chew. Pause. Savor. Enjoy.

Haven’t you heard?

Mindful eating is the meal of the moment!

Bon Appétit

Snazzy Sundays: Your iPod Gets It

We love our iPods and although I love using our Apple TV to link our music to play through our TV, I love our speakers as well! Here are some innovative ways that your speakers can take on another look with some futuristic and old school ways! My favorite is the Vers Audio Vers home system which has a cool retro look. But maybe if you're in college or in highschool, you can enjoy the chalkboard speaker or the chair. If you're truly old school, how about the Phonofone - this is definitely something that will be the talk of conversation at your next party! Make your speakers functional and also interesting!

Mingling Mondays: Ready, Set, Speak!

I have always wanted to learn another language. One of my favorite things about Middle School is that we were able to take exploratory language courses. Basically, over a year, you would get to learn about various languages over a period of weeks so that when you went to highschool, you could choose the one that you wanted to take! I loved it because I was exposed to Greek, French (which I ended up taking through college), Spanish, Chinese, Hebrew and Japanese. I loved being able to read, speak and write these components. But of course, once I had selected a language, there were the books, workbooks and tapes. At that time they didn't really do the CDs and it was definitely a subject that required a lot of repeating and learning the intricacy of the language!

So fast forward to the present. I'm super busy and yet I want to learn Italian - not just because I have always wanted to but due to an upcoming project or complete transition that I'm about to take, I find this necessary. I thought about taking courses on it or trying to find books, etc but none of this seemed to be right for me. It wasn't until I went online and thought - Rosetta Stone. To be honest, at the time I knew it was something I wanted because I could put it on my laptop so at least I wouldn't be lugging things around all day! But after I received it, I knew it was more than a matter of convenience!

After receiving the package, you get everything you need - a headset microphone, CDs that are used for the laptop and also CD's that you can take with you to keep learning or that can be downloaded on your iPod! I loved the fact that you can choose how you want to learn. In this way, if you're familiar with the language but want to focus on reading it, you could do that; however, being a newbie I chose a more well rounded series of courses. There are three levels of learning and within my first CD, there are four courses. On Sat I completed the first course within 30 minutes which allowed me to read, speak and write. From the get go I was immersed in Italian and I love that when you're speaking it, the system knows when you're saying it right! I also love that if you're not you can hit a button that shows the pattern of the native speakers voice and my own to show you how it sounds!

I will continue to provide updates on the Rosetta Stone and my thoughts on it. I will be working on a video today where this will be included and yes I do believe it's worth the cost to have all three levels and to learn at your own pace!

Techie Tuesdays: The Orbit

I am in love with the Orbit, which is a portable speaker by Altec Lansing! I love that this connects to my iPod, laptop, etc and that it's so handy! Once connected, you can turn on the system and then adjust the volume through the item that you are using to play your audio! This is perfect to take with you on the beach (it uses 4 AAA batteries), use it in study groups at Starbucks, if you're at home and are cleaning your closets - this is perfect! I have been using this since Nov/Dec as it was included within the holiday guide and it is one of my "musts" to take with me. It allows you to enjoy your music while being able to include others or to at least not shut yourself off from those that may be in and out of the room! I strongly suggest getting this and if you do, this will be one of the items that you will find yourself taking wherever you go! If you have the Orbit or are looking for something else, take a peek on the site and I am confident that you will find other items of interest as well!

Sippin Saturdays: Get On Valslist

A few weeks ago, I received an email about Valslist and for those that know me, sometimes I get a little behind on my responses. Fueled by my new iPod, I wanted to put new music on there but sometimes, I have no idea and then I thought about Valslist! The beauty of this list is that Val, the creator of this list, created a site that optimizes your iTunes player. Whether you have no idea what you're looking for or you're thinking of themes, Val has you covered with multiple playlists to fit your need. In addition, you're able to find out about upcoming shows and to learn about new groups and what their sound is similar to in regards to groups that you may know! I suggest using this when you're loading your iPod or when you're giving an iPod as a gift. I am giving my mom an iPod this year and I have decided to load it up with a few items per the suggestions of Valslist. For me, I enjoy having a filter of items that can direct me to the best music while allowing me to still use the platform that I prefer, iTunes. As you click various links, you find that listening to music and paying for it comes back into iTunes! Take some time to check it out and if you're in Chicago, there seem to be a lot of shows in your area that you could check out!

Snazzy Sundays ~ Make Your iPod Feel at Home

Ihome I don't have one of these right now but it is SO on my list. My iPod and I are never far away from one another - I'm sure you guys are the same. I love coming up with my playlists and enjoy listening to it at home. A gift for myself this holiday season will by the iHome which is available at Brookstone. I love that it has a remote control so that I can sit anywhere in the room and flip just as easily through my tunes as I would if I had my iPod in my hands. I love that it can sit within the tiny speakers and not take up too much room. In addition, I'll never be without the time and it has an alarm - perfect. Oh yes, as I am beginning to pack up and think of ways to make my apartment look snazzy, this is one of the items that is definitely on my list! Get this for yourself or as a great gift for someone else!
