Treasure Tuesdays ~ Chanel the Jacket

You've said it all when you've said Chanel. It's an iconic house that has never gone out of style and I love that in this video (which is apart of a series known as, Inside Chanel), they have shared the essence and essential nature of The Jacket and it's importance to not only the brand but what it means in terms of the movement of women's bodies. This video shares its history from 1954 to today and includes Coco herself as well as Karl Lagerfeld and how he has maintained its classic elements while also extending how this piece is viewed.

Swoonfest Saturdays: Fall Brides & Brunch

What a few days this has been! Yesterday I invited my sister, who recently became engaged, to a number of bridal shows. It was an amazing time and I love the fact that there is nothing better then having a weekend with bridal runway shows and brunch as well! Being chic is always an essential and can be done with these fun pieces with this brocade jacket by Stella McCartney and pair it with these leggings from Theory. Accessorize it all with these fabulous Ralph Lauren burnished calf boots, Clementina ring and gorgeous Balenciaga bag with rose gold hardware.

Wearable Wednesdays: London 2012 Olympics ~ Complements Her

Being a girl from the Midwest, I love sports and so the summer Olympics is definitely something that I am a huge fan of! If you missed our on my of the looks that countries will be wearing during the Opening Ceremony, events and Closing Ceremony - check out WWD (you may need a subscription) to see the spreads that started yesterday and will continue over the next few days! Each day we will focus on the Olympics and I had to start out with Team Jamaica! I had to share Cedella Marley's (daughter of Bob Marley and designer of High Tides looks as she teamed with Puma as well as the Jamaica Olympic Association and created a number of looks. You can definitely see the influence of her father as the opening ceremony has lightweight, short-sleeve button-front shirts in army green with black accents at the shoulders, a black skinny tie and an embroidered Jamaican flag patch on the right breast. This look is known as the “Buffalo Soldier button down” and has the words “Positive Vibrations” stitched inside of the collar, both references to Bob Marley songs. When I was at the preview for Bob Marley's movie here in NYC, Cedella shared these insights with us. Within this look, men have the choice to rock a military-style jacket or a sweater. The uniform’s trousers will be either yellow (with a black tuxedo stripe down the outer leg) or black.

Team Jamaica's ladieshave a single option for the opening ceremony outfit, which consists of a knee-length black-and-yellow allover leaf print skirt, Cedella Marley designed a black, military-influenced jacket with a green contrast stripe running vertically down the button placket, a green belt at the waist and green accents at the cuffs - known as the "Satisfy My Soul" jacket. The looks debuted earlier this month in London where she was quoted as saying to Usain, "... this is the first time Daddy is actually going to the Olympics ... and you’re going to be wearing him on your shoulder.”

Swoonfest Saturdays: NYFW FW 2012/2013 ~ Halfway Point Style

Here we are at the midweek of NYFW! We're going to runway shows, presentations, parties and so much more! We change looks throughout the day when we can and it's definitely tough during the winter season as you never know when a snowstorm can come messing up your fashionable looks. But when I hit the portion of this time of year when it's time for a fun night out, convertible looks are always fun. Something easy and chic and of course cab appropriate! I'm loving this tank fromHelmut Lang which has an asymmetrical angle at the hem and paired with black leather leggings from Jay Ahr. Slip on this pair of heel-less Giuseppe Zanotti's which look amazing and hello, there isn't a heel!

Cap off this look by this Rick Owens jacket. Finish the ensemble with the Agrigento amethyst raw necklace. Rock this crystal rock cocktail ring from Low Luv x Erin Wasson and finally the perfect calf skin hair bag which is classic and has a pop of color in it as well thanks to Fendi.

Fashionable Fridays ~ Get Crisp

The weather when it hits this season is definitely a call to action in terms of in between coats, heavier cardigans and so much more. My sister is such a fan of capes and obviously, she is not alone. I'm obsessed with Vince and love that this belted cape is super chic and in a fab charcoal color. Pair this with a simple pair of skinny jeans from Jacob Cohen and slide on a pair of DVF boots that are in a fab taupe shade! Rock it with this beyond gorg taupe bag by YSL which is made of pebbled lambskin and is so luxe. When it comes to the rest of the accessories, since your jacket is such a prime item to wear, rock this black diamond and sterling silver woven band ring by Effy Collection for the perfect conversation piece. As you carry your bag, you can have this Nak Armstrong moonstone bangle which is so chic and full of fun!

Wearable Wednesdays: His Style ~ Leather Duo

Last night, Paul and I wandered the Village after a round table and made our way to a super yummie Thai restaurant! I love the fall when the weather is just beginning to turn and you get giddy wearing a number of outerwear options and layers. In honor of this, I created a fun his and her leather/shearling spread! I'm OBSESSED over his style which rocks YSL's coat which is in a fab charcoal color which always looks phenomenal. Paired with the perfect distressed jeans by D&G and fun shoes, he's ready to be out and about looking amazing! Cap it off with a fab pair of fingerless gloves by UGG and a super cute beanie cap to wrap up the rest of the look. A quick pop into Forever 21 can provide a number of colors that are perfect to finish the look.

When she steps out, Karl Donoghue's jacket takes the aviator look to another level by combining this fab sleek look and popping shearling in to complete the look. Rock these with UGG's newest foray into fab footwear with this mix of menswear. Keep it simple with Paige Premium Denim pants. She can complete her look by pairing it with Simonetta Ravizza's marble fur hat which looks so cute and is warm and this fab crossbody bag by Woolrich.

Fashionable Fridays: Event ~ Socialista NY UGG Terrace

My travel schedule is all over (not that it's because I write about travel directly but my work takes me all over between design projects, appearances and TV - it's a luxury to definitely be home in NYC) and even when I'm in the city I'm in brand meetings on top of the shoots with all the launches coming up this fall and holiday. So it's not often that I get to be out and about to have fun with people I don't see as often as I would like to! Amy, of Midtown Girl is also the founder of Socialista NY a group that allows fashion influencers and bloggers to come together and engage with one another. Amy's first event took place at the UGG Showroom in the Crown Building and did I mention that they have a fabulous wrap around terrace! This event allowed us to mingle, nibble on fab appetizers and enjoy sangria, margaritas and more. In addition, we all enjoyed getting manis and pedis via Spa Chicks on the Go. It definitely came at a fab time since I had a photoshoot the next day and even as the rain began to fall at the end of the night, we took the party inside! Throughout the night, I took a sneak peek at UGG's Fall 11 offerings. This brand is about much more then the pull on shearling boots that we're familiar with. I am obsessing over many of the handbags, jackets and stacked heels that are available. In a few days I will include info on their new launch since I am attending this in early August but know that it's super cute. It was definitely a fab event and one that definitely sets the tone for future Socialista NY events!

Wearable Wednesdays: His Style ~ Rocks Red

06/20/11: A model displays a creation as part of Gucci Spring-Summer 2012 Menswear...

We know that last month it was all about Menswear as a number of male models hit the runways rocking out a number of looks that we can't wait to see up close and personal for Spring/Summer 2012! Sometimes it's best to take a moment and reflect on how amazing a trend in a show was by giving it a little breathing room. Today's His Style shows us that he needs to rock a little red. It's not about wearing it head to toe but it looks best when it's paired with a fresh palette that contains or is a mixture of black, white and/or grey. Whether you opt for leather goods that have red in it, a jacket that has a pop of it in its colorway or you go all out wearing the hue - you're guy is all set for a day to do what he does best! We're loving that Gucci reminded us of this fab trend and we can't wait to hit the streets to see this.

NY Fashion Week F/W 2011: Fashionable Fridays ~ Christopher Raeburn for Victorinox

Yesterday we left 90's glam of Vena Cava and was transported to a world where art, fashion, reclamation and multimedia came together for one of the best presentations that I have seen since I have been in NYC! If you're familiar with Swiss Army and their knives, then you are familiar with a portion of what makes up their line, Victorinox. They're a Swiss based brand that is classic while maintaining their rugged nature. For their Fall 2011 collection, they partnered with Christopher Raeburn who is all about being Remade. His collection repurposes items so that you can wear them in a new way. This sensibility was brought to Victorinox.

Upon entering Eyebeam studios, you were introduced to the collection that was handing suspended in air with light focusing on various pieces in the room. I was directed by the fab marketing team which I have a special place for, to an area circled by large screens. This portion of the presentation showed you the process of how the garment came into being. If you loved the parka, you learned that it was once made from sleeping bags or parachutes and with stop action video you saw it's genesis and it was placed on a model. The video also had sounds that played along. The music of the sound of a scissor, hearing fabric hitting the table, machines threaded, etc reminded me of when I went to Sebago's factories in DR and watched and heard the process of craftsmanship in the making! Each video told the stories and I watched each one from various vantage points.

Upon leaving the area, there was a gallery of faces which had all the models in the video. You realized (in case you missed it in the video) that these people worked at the company and their positions and length of time was stated. Of course, they wore the items that were in the video. Continuing on the wall, you learned about how Christopher Raeburn came to Victorinox to create Switzerland Remade and how he was able to bring in a sense of himself as well to the project beyond just designing. With all of this information, you were brought back to the checkerboard/installation of the collection. Now these scarves, parkas, jackets, backpacks etc had a new meaning. With each one being made by reclaimed items and being available in limited quantities (100), you felt that this was more than a collection as there is something very special about this curated project.

Mingling Mondays ~ Step Into Spring

When the weather begins to transition, you see a lot of fun blazers, jackets, swing coats etc make an appearance. Since it becomes to warm to a winter coat and not quite warm enough to go without something - you have to think creatively on how to stay in sync with the temperature. I love the swing coat from Spiegel's with a cropped look a long sleeve (not a fan of cropped jackets with a 3/4 sleeve although I have two). This is a great way to go from day to night with many of these looks and to add some pop to your denim and leggings as well!

Fashionable Fridays: Express Pops Up

Growing up, I enjoyed wearing Express in highschool and in college. My closet was full of it; however, as I came out to the east I started picking up various emerging designers and although my amount of Express may have decreased, it still has a presence whether it's a basic top, leggings or something of that nature. I love an outfit that is pulled together from various places so that it looks unique to you! Apparently, Becki Newton feels the same way as she was recently seen in InStyle magazine with the Motorcycle Jacket paired with a dress and ankle booties! Take some time to check out interesting pieces to pop into your wardrobe to round out your look.
