Mingling Mondays: Project Runway ~ Lord & Taylor Challenge

The 9th episode of last week's Project Runway took place at the 5th Avenue Lord and Taylor department store with the inspiration coming from the retailer's signature, "American Beauty Rose", as well as the customer in mind as well and finally finishing the look with selections from L&T's Accessory Wall. The winner, Michelle Franklin, had their piece produced and is sold exclusively at the store's select locations, their website and included within the windows of the 5th Avenue location. Michelle's chartreuse satin colorblock shift dress with chiffon and microsuede trim is the perfect item to include within your spring wardrobes without a doubt.

As many of you know, I'm a huge fan of Lord and Taylor as I love purchasing my outerwear as well as shoes from the 5th Avenue location. I can always find what I'm looking for without having to worry about not finding a sales team to assist me! Above you can see how this dress began in sketch form and how it is available for purchase and how it is styled. Of course, you know when it comes to accessories, I always have a few twists and I love playing with yellow as it's a great neutral to build on top of!

ACCESSORIZE THE LOOK

Here's how I would style this look for myself or for a few of my clients who love playing with neutrals! All of these items are available at Lord and Taylor and are perfect to wear with a number of other looks that you'll wear throughout the Spring and Summer! Roll over the images above to find out more information about getting the above.

Swoonfest Saturdays ~ Out & About Chic Style

It's that time of your Spring cocktail functions, wedding related activities, awards dinners, luncheons and more. It's a great time period to put your best looks together in order to impress and look amazing in pictures. With it being Spring, try thinking of other items outside of the Little Black Dress box and since we're still in the midst of the battle between winter weather and Spring (in name only as the weather has been a bit chilly), make sure that even your outerwear is a stunner as well!

ACCESSORIES INSPIRATION

Today's look was inspired by a piece whose designer I have recently communicated with! During Awards Season this year, I became aware of Kimberly McDonald Jewelry whose design incorporates natural stones with diamonds. I love natural decadence and from the pieces I've seen I've become hooked and can't wait to meet her in person. I was flipping through some sites and fell in love with her Gold, Geode and Diamond necklace (growing up in Indiana originally, I remember being on my college campus at Indiana University and finding geodes). This inspired the blush infused outfit that I believe is perfect for these occasions.

GET THE LOOK

This look merges caramel and blush together! Roll over the images to see how you can get these pieces as many are great classics that can be worn with other items or are staples to have in your closet. Blush is one of those new neutrals that look so well on a number of skin tones!

Mingling Mondays ~ Spring Break Exists

Growing up, Spring Break took on additional importance as it went from a family vacation to those that I spent with college friends. Once you get into the "real world", it's almost like some of the things that we enjoyed growing up are supposed to remain in the past! For me, I'm always traveling and thankfully, my travels during the Spring are in the islands whether I'm producing lines, doing an appearance for a brand or meeting with potential clients for initiatives that will take place later in the year. It's a way for me to bring in Spring Break as all I need are cute bikinis and a well placed maxi!

This week, I am heading off to Charleston as I have styled a runway show that is participating on in Charleston Fashion Week! Having Shoe Week take on this component is definitely exciting and with the up and down weather that has taken place (with a possible snowstorm coming), I'm glad to make my way to the historic downtown of this city! Roll over the images to see how you can enjoy Spring Break in your own way whether you're traveling or just having a moment in the city. Yellow is definitely having a moment in my closet and I love (as many know I am not someone who typically wears gold) how the gold and neutral hues play together in such a playful way. I'll be sharing information from the tents while I'm there for a quick trip and if you have time, plan your Spring Break getaway so that you can have a moment in the sun as well.

Snazzy Sundays: Awards Season 2013 ~ Helen Hunt

I love Helen Hunt as an actress and to be honest, rarely have I ever considered to include her in my actresses of note for appearing on a red carpet! But all of that ended today as she looked AMAZING in this strapless navy dress. The real clincher was that this gorgeous dress is done by none other than H&M Couture! This dress not only had a train but is green (yes sustainable and is silk satin) as well as she rocked it with $700,000 worth of jewels by Martin Katz - talk about high low fashion! Unfortunately, this dress will not be found in stores as it is custom and made specifically for Helen Hunt; however, the fashion brand has launched an eco-friendly initiative with Global Green.

Swoonfest Saturdays ~ Multiface(t)s Swarovski

I believe that no home is complete without having the perfect coffee table book. My collection is always fashion oriented but today I received a book that will be one of my favorite ones to share with those who come over! As you know, I'm in love with all things Swarovski. Multiface(t)s: Swarovski (Style Yourself with Jewelry) which was written by Nathalie Colin (great interview from Haute Couture News) who has been the Creative Director of Swarovski since 2006. Available next month, I love that the front of this book has a reflective cover which has a gorge necklace on the cover! This book talks about how accessories as a whole category changes your style and adds as well as enhances your personality! Swarovski aims to show you how to do it in a number of situations with this fab guide with hundreds of pictures. With fashion icons, fabulous quotes and a detailed how to, I know that this is not only the perfect how to guide (as they have a number of their creations included as well) but something that will look perfect on your table as well.

Fashionable Fridays: Win It ~ Chic & Layered

This winter season can be a challenge from surprisingly warm days to down right chilling to the bone temperatures! How do you dress for something like this? It's all about layers and great pops of color. I love a neutral palette and believe in mixing white, black and grey together. The versatility of this look allows you to go all over and throughout your day without wondering if you're appropriately dressed no matter the impromptu situation.

I love a great pair of skinny jeans and this pair from Paige Denim and add a fab white tank that can be dressed up and down by Rag and Bone is a fab look. Complete the look with a great rolled cardigan in grey from Ralph Lauren Blue Label. A fab pair of ankle boots add a nice touch to the look by Saint Laurent.

Of course, I'm all about accessorizing and love adding in fab embellishments to jazz up this look. All of these pieces have notes of silver, Mother of Pearl and quartz. Although I'm not a watch person, I do like this Michael Kors timepiece. Layer on a Chan Luu bracelet that adds in another subtle hue. I love this Mother of Pearl necklace which has a great depth of texture as a way to bring in an old world charm as well as being very modern. Finally, I love this quartz and diamond ring by Sandra Dini.

Finally, it's all about the bag - with this winter season that will soon transition into Spring, you have to have a pop of color and you know that I'm a huge fan of Linea Pelle as I love their rich leather, fab embellishments and amazing colors. This Dylan Medium Tote is a lovely yellow and I have been carrying this body style in the fall. I love that you can fit so much in here (many times I have my laptop in my bag and all of my tech goodies)! So kicking off today, you have the chance to win this fabulous bag and a winner will be announced on Feb 7th (the first day of NYFW) so that you can begin building your closet on the way to great style!

Win this great bag by visiting Linea Pelle and making sure that you sign up for their newsletter. Next follow and tweet @KittenLounge and @LineaPelle telling us what fabulous color you are looking forward to adding into your wardrobe this season and include the hashtag #LPKLSpring2013. A winner will randomly be selected!

Our win it has ended, congrats to @Objets for winning a fab tote from @LineaPelle!

Snazzy Sundays: Awards Season 2013 ~ SAG Awards Elisabeth Moss

With the red carpet wrapping and the SAG Awards on their way to honoring actors by actors, I had to share a fab look from one of the attendees hitting the red carpet! You too can get this fabulous look as well since we're sharing how AMC's Mad Men (which is airing its 6th season, 2 hour premier on April 7th) Elisabeth Moss obtained the look. She wore a stunning Dolce & Gabbana and accessorized it with $1M earrings from Forever Mark and Jimmy Choo heels and clutch.

mark Makeup Artist Jamie Greenberg worked with Mad Men star Elisabeth Moss for the SAG Awards. Jamie and Elisabeth wanted to keep the look down to earth with a chic French street touch.

Face:

Started with mark’s Min-A-Real Cream to Powder Foundation and layered on mark’s Touch and Glow in Warm Glow on the cheeks with a swipe of mark’s Just Pinched Instant Blush Tint in Cheeky. Set the look with mark’s Set Things Right Loose Powder.

Eyes:

Started with mark’s Please Hold Eye Primer as a base. Used i-mark in Luv Struck in the crease then blended in the black shade in mark’s Drama Case Eye Shadow and Liner Palette on the lash line.

She added i-mark Metallic in Lava on the lid and finished the lash line with mark’s What A Line Felt Tip Eyeliner in Twilight. Applied false eyelashes and two coats of mark’s Scandalash Mascara in Blacklash and filled in the lower lash line with mark’s No Place to Run Longwear Eyeliner in Jet set. Finished the eyes with one coat of Scandalash Mascara in Blacklash on the lower lashes.

Lips:

mark’s Lipclick in Baby Luv

Body:

mark’s Jewel Body Cream

UPDATE Love this video with Jamie showing us how she created her look. In addition, I love that we get to see her face prepped as well as her hair team, it's always fun to check things out behind the scenes.

Mingling Mondays: Snag the Look ~ Inauguration Day 2013

We're not finished with inauguration day activities but we had to share our highlights over the weekend as well as what took place today as President Obama was being sworn in. We love the looks that everyone has been rocking. Michelle Obama (how much do you love that she has her own Twitter account to share her thoughts with us - @FLOTUS) and her girls looked amazing during the Kids Inaugural Concert this weekend with performances by Usher and Katy Perry.

Yesterday, Obama was sworn in to office for another term in the White House and had his fabulous family by his side. Michelle wore a Reed Krakoff dress and matching cardigan in blue, the color of the party. Malia wore a cute dress which was on trend with an age appropriate color blocked dress (which was created by simply layering a long sleeve top under a sleeveless dress that she wore while her father campaigned). Sasha wore purple Plenty by Tracy Reese dress named, Mariposa (you can still snag this piece and we love how Sasha updated this look as she had worn this ensemble before) and added oomph to the look by pairing it with a gold sash to create a belted look and a flare in her outfit. Both opted for - tights.

This morning, a number of stars were present at the inauguration including John Legend, Jay-Z and Beyonce (who sang the national anthem immediately after President Obama was sworn in). Jay-Z looked dapper wearing a Dior suit. Beyonce was a vision with a Pucci dress, Dior coat and stunning jewelry by Lorraine Schwartz which looked phenom and were making statements of their own as she walked in and sang (without her ear piece). Michelle and her daughters looked fabulous as usual. Michelle had a coat by Thom Browne in navy with a dress whose fabric was inspired by a man's silk tie (love when menswear goes femme). I love that during the swear in, her legs were exposed and the coat was not accessorized and she completed the look with kitten heels from J.Crew. This look was accessorized (when she was getting ready to walk) by Reed Krakoff boots, a jeweled belt and gloves from J.Crew and Cathy Waterman earrings as she headed to the parade after the swear in. This entire look is slated to go to the National Archives!

Her mini style mavens rocked cute looks as usual. Malia (the oldest) wore a Double Cloth Lady Coat in plum (love that you can still snag it) by J.Crew. Her sister, Sasha, wore a Kate Spade coat and dress.

We can't wait to see what the family will don for tonight's events and we'll keep you in the loop!

UPDATE: 01.22.13 Racked reported, that during the Today Show, Jenna Lyons, Creative Director of J.Crew will be retiring the color of the Lady Coat that Malia wore. Although this style has been a staple within the brand's line, out of respect for her to have her moment, the color will no longer be available. The belt that Michelle added to hear Thom Browne coat, was actually a bedazzled bridal sash from the line and this too will also be retired! If you were able to snap up these finds (or still can) fab - if not, the hunt continues!

Snazzy Sundays: Awards Season 2013 ~ Golden Globes Alyssa Milano

During today's E! Live From the Red Carpet show for the 70th Annual Golden Globe Awards, we caught a glimpse of Alyssa Milano and without question, she looked fabulous! She stunned in this marigold hued Ports 1961 dress which flows so nicely and was accessorized with Graziela Forever with stunning Turquoise Earrings and a fabulous Turquoise Ring by the same house! Her clutch is fabulous and none other than Thale Blanc and is known as Adrianne - a black leather with gold cheetah with smoked topaz Swarovski Crystals. Rona Pfeiffer's Large Zig Zag Bangle is the perfect way to compliment this fabulous look which was styled by Julie Matos!

Treasure Tuesdays: NYE 2012 ~ Black and White Chic

Each day it's getting closer and closer to NYE and of course we'll be showcasing some of our favorite looks. Today, it's a nod to menswear as well as black and white which is always chic. We're loving this Elizabeth and James black and white tuxedo which can be paired over these LAgence suede leggings as well! Complete the look with a simple cami and then layer on accessories to finish this look! I'm loving this resin Tory Burch necklace with chain detail as well as (of course) this Balenciaga city bag which includes everything you need for a night out. Finally, these simple Lorenzi heels make this utter perfection!

Infusing Great Gatsby Style Into Your Look

GG-06432r: CAREY MULLIGAN as Daisy Buchanan and LEONARDO DICAPRIO as Jay Gatsby in Warner Bros. Pictures' and Village Roadshow Pictures' drama "THE GREAT GATSBY," a Warner Bros. Pictures release.

Photo courtesy of Warner Bros. Pictures

The Great Gatsby, Scott F. Fitzgerald`s famous novel about the roaring 1920s, has inspired a look all its own. Meant to be a blend of modern style with the fashion earmarks of the novel`s decade, getting the Great Gatsby look is all about accessories and pairings.

Hairpieces

A sparkling hairpiece that stands out is a must-have part of the Great Gatsby look. For example, try a jeweled headband with ornate etchings or an accent stick with a jeweled end placed through a hair knot.

When you`re looking for hair accessories, make sure you`re sticking to pieces that reflect the time period. Dull golds, silver and diamonds are the best way to go. Clear gemstones were more common than colored ones in the hair accessories of the era.

For headbands, try to find bold, swirly patterns as opposed to the traditional U-shaped style. Hairpieces were immediately noticeable in the 1920s and should not be easily hidden by your hair.

Jewelry

Pearls are a surefire way to introduce the Great Gatsby look into your style, especially long and knotted strands. Choose traditional pearl colors, such as white and pink. Darker colored pearls were not common in the 1920s.

Earrings and rings should be "baubles," or large and noticeable. Pearl and diamond accents are preferable with silver or neutral tone dresses, but look for colored gemstones if you`re going with a color theme. For example, if you have a green dress and shoes, you can use accenting emerald-hued stones in your jewelry pieces to set your entire outfit off.

Dresses

A traditional flapper dress is beaded and should make some noise when you move around in it. While the dresses vary in length, often showing the knees, cleavage was often minimal. Look for dresses with higher fronts and a rounded or uneven bottom to get the correct look. Fringe is a must in a dress in the Great Gatsby style.

You have a wide range of colors available, depending on what level of Great Gatsby style you`re aiming for. If you want to go bold, try reds, golds and greens. For a more traditional look, stick to silvers, grays and variations of light brown, such as gold and shiny tan.

Accessories

Gloves, feathered boas and cigarette holders and cases were all popular in the 1920s. If you decide to go with gloves, stick to basic colors in a satin material. Gloves should be full length, past the wrist.
Purses were smaller and often matched the dress in the 1920s. Look for beaded or fringe purses, particularly clutches or other small evening purses, to complete your look. Try to find a purse that matches or complements the colors present in your dress.

Shoes

Heels were a part of most flapper outfits, particularly high heels in a traditional style. While not as comfortable as the sneakers on Etnies Shoes, higher heels in a neutral shade are preferable for the Great Gatsby look. Try on heels beforehand so you go the highest you can without being uncomfortable.

Mingling Mondays: FW2012 Trends ~ Kita Williams

A few seasons ago I remember watching VH1's T.O. Show. At the time that the show aired, I was doing a lot of traveling and it was fab escapism. I love when you see celebs and their teams that make them even more of a rockstar then what they are. Kita Williams is a fab publicist and was my fave on the show! I've always loved her sense of style and she definitely comes across as the bestie and girl next door that you would want to know!

Recently, Kita hit the red carpet for UNCF's 33rd Annual An Evening of Stars! I love her classic flawless look but of course, if I were styling her I'd have to get her in this fabulous rich plum/eggplant dress by Herve Leger! She would rock out this look with these fabulous heels by Yves Saint Laurent! Finish this golden look with this decadent Nancy Gonzalez clutch which adds a pop of color in this look. Although I love Kita's necklace, I would switch it out with Herve Van Der Straeten!

Althouogh her earrings are definitely stunning, I feel that she is a bit bare and would love to pop in some elements such as this Olivia Collings Antiques drop necklace which has the fab trend of fringe. Treasure Tuesdays: Events ~ Well Accessorized for the Holidays

I love that within this industry there are a number of people who I call my peers and friends who do phenomenal things and/or events that I can support them and learn something new! So when I received an invite to attend fellow Accessories Expert, Pamela Pekerman's annual Well Accessorized for the Holidays event at Petaluma, I knew that I would attend. Pamela always shares fun products within a theme. As she wove the story of how one gets ready for the holidays, it was amazing to be in a room of fabulous personalities such as Samantha Lim (Editor in Chief of FashionIndie.com), Cesar Gaviria (celebrity stylist) and more! Via all the goodies that we received, I fell in love with Lagos (I had enjoyed their jewelry earlier this season at their showroom - their Caviar Macrame bracelets are phenomenal), Archipelago Botanicals (this candle and their new version of potpourri will make your home smell warm, cozy and overall amazing), Ahnu (these rain boots are so chic and I am days away from getting mine in wine) and ClaireBella Designs (fab bags that could be customized to your photo) and so much more! As always what a fab event and I can't wait to continue including brands from this event within future posts.

Snazzy Sundays ~ Owl it Up

A few weeks ago, I received a fabulous owl necklace which has only made me want to think of ways to incorporate this into decor options! I'm obsessed with Heather Moore's owl charm and it's today's inspiration. For your bedroom or wherever you place your jewelry after wearin git for the day, how about this Owl Trinket Dish from Urban Outfitters. When it comes to the kitchen, we're loving that Pottery Barn has owl plates as well as a punch bowl that incorporates the owl's tree branch! This is perfect for holiday parties. Clean up spills with this dishtowel from Anthropologie and as you sip a bit of espresso, these mugs are perfect and available at West Elm.

Treasure Tuesdays ~ Blush, Black & Rose Gold

We know it's still toasty out but we have to think about how we can bring summer into a great fall look as we make the transition. I am obsessed with cami's as I love the lingerie aesthetic being brought into daywear in a classy way. Gold Hawk has a fab lace tank (this would be perfection with my upcoming HSN appearance) and pair it over a pair of simple Joe's Jeans (also fab for on air appearances) for a fun look. Glam it up and make it transition into the evening with a velvet blazer by Alexander McQueen which is a bit of tuxedo menswear that is super femme with a nipped in waist. Complete the look with Ivanka Trump jewelry in rose gold with a fabulous pendant. Moritz Glik has a Kaleidoscope ring in pink gold with white sapphire crystals that float within the ring. Finally, pair these Giuseppe Zanotti lace peep toe boots to complete the look.

Today's the day! If you're reading this by now, I have already finished the first of 2 segments today on HSN! As many of you know, I'm a spokesperson for Sebago's women's collection as well as I designed a collaborative line with the brand known as Kimmie Smith x Sebago Spring 12 collection! Some of you have already checked me out at 5am this morning and you can see me on air again at 3pm today!

What I Wore Today for this first segment is a fun outfit. I am a HUGE fan of Butter London and I am breaking out of just wearing on shade - today, you saw me rock then Branwen hue. I rocked a fab pair of leggings that were made by TS (you can get the same effect with Mcq by Alexander McQueen. I have two tanks layered as I am a huge fan of racerbacks I suggest for the bottom layer, something like a white tank from Delia's and then layer it with Kimberly Ovitz's mesh ribbed tank which adds a little edge. My look is nothing without the right accessories. Of course you know I have my large and fave onyx ring from Ana Reign Designs (you'll see this by the time I have pics from behind the scenes) but I am excited about the bling that I brought in thanks to the generous people of Ross-Simons. They sent me Charriol pieces which are perfect as there are femme and whimsical elements with a mix of edginess to it. I'm loving my Charriol bandles which have a great amount of bling and then I also have the ring that has pave diamonds on it as well!

To complete this look, I'm rocking my gingham (yes they are navy and white) Kimmie Smith x Sebago Spring 12 collection which is such a great way to have a comfy casual shoe! Of course this pair is also available in tan as well which is also available! I'll see you guys at 3pm and thanks for all the love and to those who purchased - woot!
