The other day I was invited to a show at Joe's Pub (super excited) by indie artist, Theresa Andersson. Although I wasn't familiar with her and her work, I have to say that I am impressed by what others have said about her, enjoy her music and can't wait to see her in one of my favorite places to listen to music! Theresa Andersson recently released her CD "Hummingbird,Go!". On Feb 6th, she will appear at Joe's Pub and will even be on Conan O'Brien's show as well. These performances will come after spending the beginning of the year on the west coast. This Swedish artist has been living in New Orleans and has a sound that includes a 60's pop, soul, gospel and Motown. She is also a one woman show in that she can play various instruments. The video included within this post is for Na Na Na which she performs in her kitchen. With all the positive feedback (she is being included within a Starbucks CD), I'm excited to go to her show and to see it in person. Take some time to also check out her site as well!
This week, I am actually sharing a restaurant with you as Paul normally does tihs. This is not the first time that I have visited Mara's Homemade (we went back in the summer when we were thinking of having crawfish); however, atfer essentialy realizing that another restaurant that we had wanted to go to had a wait time of nearly three hours, I suggested that we swing by. Thankfully, there was no wait time, we were able to watch Saturday night's game and I became super excited that we would have Louisiana Oysters and one of my favorite drinks - Lavendar Lemonade (which is pear vodka and lemonade - I have to say that I took a sip of their Bloody Mary and they have officially risen to being the number one place to have one - sorry Paris Commune but it was spicy and tangy and I have never had one that was so good). Paul had his first crawfish (you know that we were supposed to have a lobster boil at the house and ended up having a lobster one instead - however we are back on board to have the crawfish broil on Memorial weekend!) which he found to be very spicy and tasty. I had gumbo which I enjoyed. I'm already planning on making sure that we're there for Mardi Gras as I am a huge fan of their King Cake.
What I love even more than the food and the bartender is the service! I have been their twice and have found the staff to always work with a smile and to make suggestions! In fact when Paul decided that he had to have the Beignets, our waitress strongly suggested that he should and I was having such a great time that I knew I wouldn't win this argument! Take some time to head out to the East Village to get a slice of New Orleans (they serve Abita beer which I had the first time and thouroughly enjoyed it). Visit the site and you'll find that they cater, they are already ahead of you by showing the Mardi Gras menu and also their Valentine's menu as well! Hopefully we will be there for Mardi Gras and we'll see you there!
We love hearing from you! Suggestions, ideas and thoughts are always welcome.
Please send all food related questions to Paul, spa and wellness items to Keren and all other queries to Kimmie.
