Actress Sandra Oh ~ "Grey's Anatomy" @ Emmy's red carpet
Last night I watched the Emmy pre show on E! with some friends (@nikisnotes, @tasty_morsels, @mizcity and @anneobrien at the @rshotel) since we were watching Jeannine Morris (Editor in Chief at the Beauty Sweet Spot @beautysweetspot) make her debut on the red carpet talking about the beauty products that the celebs were wearing. After her segment, we settled in to watch the stars hit the carpet. Now we know that there are a lot of people who have something to do with what the stars wear; however, there must have been a memo on accessories! Not only was it decided to go minimal but poor necklaces got the short end of the stick. Yes, we're all aware that we should be more conscious about how we spend money or how we go about presenting ourselves as it seems uncouth to throw your money around; however, wearing gorgeous gowns that are strapless without a necklace is empty and made everyone look like they had forgotten something. The red carpets are times when people love to see what is being worn and they want to enjoy the fantasy - leaving out necklaces doesn't add to this and only confuses the entire situation. One of my favorite looks was Sandra Oh's (Grey's Anatomy) dress (although I wasn't a fan of the hot pink shoes but maybe she got the other memo that hot pink was the look last night) she looked amazing and I loved her clutch and her ring. But of course, she wasn't wearing a necklace. Here are two fabulous options that she could have gone with to make her dress pop (in many cases the pieces that the stars wear are on loan so this is more of a reason that necklaces shouldn't have been abandoned).
The other day I was invited to a show at Joe's Pub (super excited) by indie artist, Theresa Andersson. Although I wasn't familiar with her and her work, I have to say that I am impressed by what others have said about her, enjoy her music and can't wait to see her in one of my favorite places to listen to music! Theresa Andersson recently released her CD "Hummingbird,Go!". On Feb 6th, she will appear at Joe's Pub and will even be on Conan O'Brien's show as well. These performances will come after spending the beginning of the year on the west coast. This Swedish artist has been living in New Orleans and has a sound that includes a 60's pop, soul, gospel and Motown. She is also a one woman show in that she can play various instruments. The video included within this post is for Na Na Na which she performs in her kitchen. With all the positive feedback (she is being included within a Starbucks CD), I'm excited to go to her show and to see it in person. Take some time to also check out her site as well!
I love a good selection of bling and I am not afraid to say it! if you have seen me out and about, you know that I love those large cocktail rings and am prone to wear it with any and every outfit no matter how casual or dressy! I throw all caution to the wind and I love it! Well I love pieces that pop and glimmer and am such a fan of LOLA (Lots of Little Accesories) Jewelry. These are bold statement pieces that are not for the shy or faint of heart, I really love the Smoky Quartz ring and would love it to be in my collection but there are also other colors that also pop out and look just as amazing with all of the outfits that you are prone to wear. These rings are apart of the collection 'Pop Rocks' which is very appropriately named in my opnion. In addition, you will love other pieves such as these pink ribbon earrings! Not only do they look elegant but they still have a lot of bling that gets you noticed.
You know next weekend looks good when you are currently sitting in a weekend thinking about the next one coming up. Yes I am pleased to attend a special shopping event next Fri but I can't lie that it's going to be fun to go to PaperDoll's concert in the West Village next Saturday night. I think this calls for those special skinny jeans, a cute shirt, clucth and all the python accessories that I can find! Seriously, I began chatting it up with the lead singer of PaperDoll and after visiting their main home and MySpace page, I knew that this was something that I would always want playing on my iPod.
PaperDoll has not only been making the circuit but they have played to sold out shows at Knitting Factory, Crash Mansion and Mercury Lounge. With the release of the their debut album, Ballad Nerd Pop, this pop rock band embraces its listeners with great melodies, catchy tunes and just the feeling of excitement about their own music. I am a huge fan of the 80's sound and my favorite song is definitely, "Everything is Fine" which has a great sound and gets you ready to prepare for a night out or you may already be out enjoying a night with the girls or your growing group of friends.
Most importantly, I see Teresa as that early Gwen Stefani during the No Doubt days. I think she has a great style and definitely makes her look her own while taking ownership of her lyrics. OIf you have yet to hear this band, you can hear them next Sat! I hope to continue following this band on Kitten Lounge. as you know that I enjoy sharing indie music and I will be out next weekend catching my first (and hopefully not the last) show. I will also share my thoughts on the show as well.
Right before Fashion Week, I had an amazing tip about an artist that I HAD to know about. Let me just say that when I got a little clarity today, I enjoyed learning about Red Grape Records' artist Hafdis Huld. Originally from Iceland but living in the UK, she has an amazing folk, acoustic, pop sound and I love this video that is currently on You Tube called Tomoko. Hafdis is the girl that is not in the brown cat suit dancing around! I debated this point back and forth until I had a talk with Kerry and he set me straight! I have to say that I love her sound! You can also learn more about her and other songs via her Myspace account. Her sound is unique and it definitely puts you in a great mood, I'm not sure who the second person is in the brown catsuit but the video is fun to watch because of their interaction! Thank you so much Kerry for the tip/clarification and I hope you guys love this video as much as I do!
Growing up, many of us were all about the Pop Up Books. There's something about turning a page and then realizing that something is much closer than what it would be in a traditional book. As we grew up, we got over the Pop Up Books but the idea still lives on - after all a Pop Up's beauty is that it lets you grasp something that you normally wouldn't be able to and as quick as it seems to come, it's gone again. Case in point is Ananas' Pop Up Store for her handbags which will be on the LES! This handbag designer is making sure that everyone has the opportunity to experience her pieces but for a limited time beginning June 24th - July 15th. Not only will you get the experience but you get first dibs on handbags, scarves, jewelry, etc that won't hit stores until Aug! In addition with your purchases, you will have the opportunity to receive a special tote that bares the logo included within this post. This is a great way to go from enjoying her collection online to being able to come to the store. But like any other Pop Up Book experience, when that last page is read, it will definitely be over. Get ready now by visiting her site and as she turns the page on this event, you can see her shop for yourself!
Ananas Pop Up Store

At any given time someone is strutting on the runway wearing something fabulous and during this portion of Australian Fashion Week, Leonard Salinas' collection hit the catwalk with amazing pops of color that you can definitely see in this shot. First off, I love his silhouettes and he definitely knows how to show some of our best parts - it's nice to bring back that old elegance and to mix it up with interesting embellishment and also amazing rich hues! This is not for the faint at heart.
Now I have to say, that this beautiful grey/silver piece caught my eye since it is one of my favorite colors to wear and I loved the detailing on the neck as well. I wasn't sure if it was something that I would personally wear but I think that this shapes the body well and would be amazing to wear to an opening at a gallery, a cocktail event launching a book that just hit the New York Times or any other occassion that calls upon us to step it up when it comes to our attire. But I think the magic in this piece comes when this model gives us another view.
The back of this dress took me off guard completely and instantly this become a piece that I want in my collection ASAP. I love that this simple look completely makes this dress go from safe to daring and yet your inner Audrey never has to wonder if this is appropriate to wear to the functions mentioned above. This dress is perfect to pair with a necklace that is intended to be worn down your back and of course you hair down is perfect but having it in a messy updo of sorts wouldn't be a bad idea. If you love this piece and the peeks that you can see in the background, see more from this show and others on Coutorture!
No matter the season or the style of your apartment/home, having blue in your home is definitely therapeutic and should be used even if it is only a pop of color! These glass vases which are perfect to fill with liquid, flowers, marbles, etc are available in a variety of sizes at Pottery Barn and yes they can be monogrammed as well. This is such a great housewarming gift, graduation or something for you to get yourself whether you line them up in various heights, place it in your kitchen or within your bedroom. You can make your own seascape in whatever way best fits your mood or style. Of course, this will ensure that you'll either visit the store, catalog or site in order to find other items that would work as well! I love summer and a great idea!
Up until a year ago, I would have looked at this belt and just said "why" I was never one to wear a belt period and when it came to wearing a belt that was this skinny - I knew that it didn't necessarily assist in holding your pants up. It just goes to show you that even someone who loves accessories and uses as many as possible, can be absolutely clueless and they have much to learn. Thankfully, I look at belts in general as an opportunity to step up what I'm wearing! A belt like this is a fun item simply because it's only purpose is to showcase you and you can decide where you want to let the belt hang! This faux turquoise piece is super cute with so many items and is a great color that will go with your jeans! Available on Bluefly, Sandy Duftler creates a belt that fits perfectly within the theme of LAGOON bringing in pops of blue and green!
We love hearing from you! Suggestions, ideas and thoughts are always welcome.
