I travel a lot and generally it's divided between designing my collaboration lines, flying out for my segments on TV as well as attending my industry events such as Fashion Week in other cities and tradeshows so I can get a peek on what's coming up in future seasons. In addition, there are just general appearances when you have been requested to attend as a guest of "fill in the blank" to hit the red carpet. It has been far too long since I have had a vacation but anytime I "hit the friendly skies" I try to still enjoy why I'm there although I go through my moments of feeling that I live in a suitcase!
Next Sun, I will be in Dominican Republic designing my third collaboration with Sebago (Kimmie Smith x Sebago Fall 12) which means a few days in Santo Domingo and revisiting some of my fave eateries, people and of course the views of the beach! When you travel a lot, you get set in your ways and you bring as much of your home life with you as possible as I always get in that rut of missing what's so accessible at my door back in NYC! So as you saw earlier this week, I shared my travel musts when I'm on the plane with Glamazon Diaries but these are my musts when I'm out and about in my temporary home - the hotel. Of course, my new fave book listed above made me think of this as part of what I do is design and so being an American Designer on the Go, I can definitely give you what works for me. I love my Move Collective Water Bottle which is ergonomically designed and also filters out ickiness in any kind of water. Many times, I pour water from a water bottle into it as I'm so used to carrying this around! I love my dried cranberries from Ocean Spray and my Veggie Sticks. I bring a bag of both wherever I'm going as I hate to get to places to find it's not there (with the exception of HSN as they are well stocked in the greenroom - so many healthy snacks there)! I hate rustling in bags - it's a pet peeve of mine as hearing the sound of crunchy paper and cellophane drives me up the wall (even when I'm doing it). So putting it in these super cute soft pouches is not only stylish but quiet. Finally, spending hours in a factory designing and being around tons of people is an energy rush but can be way too overstimulating. So I bring my Crisp Champagne Mini Diffuser by Voluspa with me. Nothing is better then after a nice dinner, getting a massage and retiring to my room to answer emails, watch Cosmopolitan TV (love that it's in the DR) or E! in my own zen!
