Last Thursday I attended the American Cancer Society's Pink & Black Tie Gala which was hosted by Stacy London and held at Steinner Studios in Brooklyn. All I can say is what an amazing and inspiring event! I love the fact that there were so many items auctioned (I included a piece, Victory which was included from my jewelry line, Kitten Couture) and Crystal Horton of Tasty Morsels Bakery, included her amazing cookies within the goodie bag. Drinks continued to flow and I have to say that the appetizers during the cocktail hour were presented in amazing displays!
I loved seeing that many people who supported this event were not only survivors but current workers of ACS! Stacy London (whose video is posted above) had a moving speech that definitely held everyone's attention. I also loved hearing about the Hope Lodge in NYC (there are other locations within the country as well) which is a place that those who are going through cancer treatments and their families can stay without worrying about paying for temporary housing. Located near Penn Station, this is a great sense of community for them! At this event, I heard about 96 Magnolia which is also a place for those seeking wellness. It is meant to live green, live well and it's also a place for style for those that are fashion and interior designers by including their pieces. I definitely wanted to find out more about this and to assist in fundraising! By the end of the night, over $175,000 was raised! What an amazing night to bring awareness to the fight against cancer, research and funding and finally giving Brooklyn much deserved love!
With it being Fashion Week, all attention is focused on the runways at the tents, presentations that are outside of Bryant Park and so much more. I love this time of year as it makes me think of the spring/summer being closer together, but I'm also thinking of another runway that is even more impacting in terms of helping so many that fight every day! On April 30th, St Jude Children's Research Hospital will present the Design Cares fashion show which is a collaboration of so many designers (including my fave Diane Von Furstenburg) whose pieces will hit the runways and will later be auctioned off in order to benefit pediatric cancer research. The sketch above is a custom couture gown for Design Cares by Maggie Norris Couture which is being donated for this worthy cause. I think this is such an important cause and Kitten Lounge (along with other sites that I write for) will keep you in the loop on this event up to the day (and of course the day after). There are so many amazing stories and interests that are associated with this amazing event, that it would be unfair to share it within one post. Definitely stay in touch as Kitten Lounge presents more posts about this and of course, you can see this event first hand by purchasing tickets to attend!
With Fashion Week getting closer to the end, it was important to us to also launch our Pink Lounge this week! The Pink Lounge is a shop where you will find various products where a portion of the proceeds will go to the fight against and the awareness of Breast Cancer. We know that there are various products that are available; however, the aim of this shop is to attempt to centralize these items so that you can see them in one place. Although this will not be a comprehensive list, I am excited to partner with those that would like to have their work added to this growing list. The Pink Lounge will be up from now through November 15th! I look forward to adding to this shop and if you would like to participate, you can click here!
Any trip needs a little research in my opinion. Even if you never really go on the trip, having a little knowledge never hurt anyone. When it comes to Astor Wines and Spirits, this is a great place to go to see a variety of wines and spirits - those that you know and those which may not be familiar to you. I also love that when visiting the site, you can register so you can learn more about classes and tastings that are offered. Now you can branch out beyond your favorites and find housewarming gifts, something to bring for dinner and much more as we get closer into the summer. This is also a great way to pass the day when you had yet to plan to do anything and it is a tad too hot outside to do anything else. Take some time to visit the site and then head down to Astor Wines and Spirits!
