Last week I had to share one of the favorite looks that was created by Johana from NBC's Fashion Star. This week she was paired with Daniel again as they had to create separate pieces that are meant to be worn together in order to create a cohesive look! Yet again, I was all about Johana's look as her pencil skirt was perfection and I love Daniel's tops! During the show, there were three distinct variations that made it on the runway; however, when it came to production (as Saks actually bought both), you can see that they have a blush/black ensemble as well as a black/white combo. The beauty of this look is that they look fabulous separately but when placed together, it's as if you have a dress!
Roll over the images to see how I would accessorize the above in terms of shoes and handbags! In addition, see how these items are a universal for your accessories and how you can include it within other looks that you plan on wearing during this season and the next! You'll find these accessories consist of Reed Krakoff, Alexander McQueen, Bottega Veneta and Stephanie Cesaire.
Many times I'm running to a lot of meetings that involve my jewelry line, upcoming book, walking through selections of my clients, working on all that is Shoe Week for the upcoming NYFW season and making pulls for upcoming appearances! But it's nice to have a night to check out an event of brands that I truly enjoy using. You know a number of brands that I love and Dove happens to be one of them as it always makes my skin look amazing! On Tuesday night, my sister and I were off to learn more about their Truth Files as it's an initiative that they have been focused on for a number of Tuesdays this year! Dove's integration of their brand throughout the night flowed through the fab ice sculpture, a number of the foods had the signature bird as well as fabulous garnish displays.
Samantha Bee @IAmSamBee of The Daily Show chatted with us to talk about all that was important in putting it all out there from her having a fab career, being a mom, her fashion misses and the industry as a whole. Thankfully, I took a moment to share a few snippets of her routine and loved that she had us all laughing at her, with her and about ourselves.
If you've been reading my tweets you know of this season's addiction to Fashion Star mainly because of Glaudi's designer, Johana Hernandez. A few seasons ago, I remember seeing portions of her collection when she showed at LA Fashion Week and seeing her designs hit the runway on this show have definitely been a reminder to me on why her pieces are so phenom!
As an Accessories Expert, I'm also a fan of the fact that she not only rocks some serious accessories personally but she ensures her looks no matter how eye popping have them as well! Last night as she stood with the rest of the members of her team, she enjoyed massive bidding by all three retailers, Macy's, Saks and Express. Ultimately, Express picked up her beige and floral jumpsuits as well as adding in black.Of course I will continue to watch as she continues through the challenges and you'll find that at the conclusion of the season, there will be a recap of all of her designs with fab insights!
It's another cold day here in NYC and we're in day 2 of NYFW! Although many wonder weather the blizzard could cancel shows, my fingers are crossed as this weekend I have quite the schedule and hope to see the shows. If you've ever wondered how the whole fashion community seems to be in sync in terms of colors that are in stores within each season, I have one word - Pantone! This is a great resource of colors in general but more importantly to let you in on the trending colors you should keep an eye out for. Although many designers have hit the runway and there are more to come, here are the key hues that will be huge in Fall 2013 and some peeks into what designers are doing within these colors.
My favorite hues of this grouping includes, Deep Lichen Green, Mykonos, Turbulence, Koi and Vivacious. Next week, I will be at Bibhu Mohapatra and can't wait to see the use of Koi (its great that the past seasons have been embracing orange hues such as Clementine and Tangerine), feminine hues such as Vivacious with Tadashi Shoji and Acai with Trina Turk. If you want to see your favorite designer or learn more about the hues that will be big in this season, check out the Pantone Color Fashion Report Fall 2013.
Tonight is the big night where we say goodbye to 2012 and fully embrace 2013! Our last post of the year looks firmly ahead to Spring/Summer 2013 where we're already thinking about fabulous vibrant hues. Yesterday we looked at Turquoise as it applies to decor and today, it's all about fabulous ensembles from the SS13 runway show from Noon by Noor which is perfect for brunches, hanging out with the girls and all of our lounging that we'll do this season. I love this print whether it's in their short jumper or this maxi skirt with a split which looks fab with this olivine shirt. How would we accessorize these looks? We love this cutout cuff which combines turquoise and bronze by Pamela Love, pick up the green hues from the second look with Armenta's green turquoise and black diamond ring and complete with Stephen Dweck with his pebble necklace. When it comes to running around and looking fabulous, it's all about a great bag and this Balenciaga Arena Giant Rose Gold Town bag is absolute perfection!
We just switched our closets as it's getting harder and harder to wear a lot of our summer items and pass them off as current season. We're mid week and thinking of the weekend and that means, it's time to relax. We love that he can rock his comfy jersey track pants by Baartmans and Siegel with this fun graphic tee by O'Neill! Paired with this Brera watch and Sorel surplus boots. To keep the chill off, how about this quilted Lacoste jacket is the perfect way to complete the look whether heading to Whole Foods, brunch or wherever the weekend takes you!
We go to the opera throughout the season and I love when we get dressed up to head out! When it comes to old world glam, you can't go wrong with this fab cape from Yves Saint Laurent which is super classic . Rock it with the updated looks of these Christian Louboutin booties and this fabulous Pucci with these dramatic Dior oversized sunglasses!
One of the things that I love most about this season's DSquared2's Milan Fashion Week show was the mix of prep and rocker chic! This is definitely something that speaks to a lot of my design aesthetic - check out what looks I'm obsessing over from this line!
I am such a fan of olive as it's perfect year around but as we get closer to fall, I embrace this hue even more! Today's look is inspired by a very large love of mine pony hair and python! I'm loving these Givenchy Camel Suede Pony Hair platform pumps. Because I love a bit of that monotone look, how about these Utzon Natural leather leggings which are super slimming on your legs. I had to pair this with the Nancy Gonzalez Tassel Dome Bag which is such a great color and perfect for the change in seasons. Include this Givenchy draped top which is perfect for going out and brunching. I love that you can pair this with a fabulous necklace from Becky Kelso with an olive pendant. To continue bringing in these neutrals, I love this Coralia Leets bracelet and I like how it is balanced with Jamie Joseph quartz ring which is hand faceted and with diamonds. Finally, accessorize with your polish by including this olive/gold hue from Butter London and is known as Wallis!
I'm going to be at the Essence Music Festival next week! As a Brand Ambassador for Crest 3D White, I will be at the My Black is Beautiful booth styling next Friday and sharing what your go to accessories should be for this season and transitioning into fall! I'm pumped that I'll be wearing a number of accessories from Linea Pelle! In addition, we have the White Room Challenge coming up as well - find out more!
Tadashi Shoji is one of my favorite lines to see each season at Fashion Week! This season the line plays with velvet, sheers and this awesome blend of 1920's meets modern which is always nice to have! During this show, I actually sat with someone that works within the Bridal section of Nordstrom's store in Paramus, NJ. Many of the pieces that hit the runway would be perfect portions to include within bridal events and she was taking notes. I'm always interested in those that attend the show and of course someone in the Bridal Industry is always amazing. Above, the picture on the left has the calm before the fashionable storm. I love the motif that is set within the show before it even starts (Billie Holiday was being played) and when the first looks hit the runway, everyone was swooning over "You Only Live Once". On the right, see the runway in motion and enjoy the video which has all the looks take a final walk.
As mentioned yesterday, from now until the end of the year I will share with you my Top 5's (known as Kimmie's 5s - as an Accessories Expert you'll find the best way to complete your looks) within various themes as this is the time of year of lists after all! Today's look is inspired by the upcoming Winter Solstice and the dip in temperature being 27 degrees yesterday! We're still running around gifting, going to dinners and so much more! With that said I am all about caramel and rich brown tones! How can one dress up their outerwear and leggings which is a staple in my look when it comes to colder weather. I'm obsessed with the Prairie Hideaway Coat available at Modcloth. I love that it mixes in caramel, grey, black and cream and has a fun texture! In addition, this can be paired with any legging and of course, I have chosen the black pair by Alberta Feretti!. With that said, here are the top 5 caramel focused accessories that are fab for your closet and to complete this look!
Necklaces are essential and of course if it's from Virgins, Saints and Angels - I know that it's going to take your look to another level. Although this Magdalena piece is available exclusively at Nordstrom, it's tiered and drop pendant look is perfection for this look! Keep your fingers warm with fingerless gloves by Portolano. Keep your legs warm by slipping on Naughty Monkey's over the knee boot which is perfect for the season. Keep your eyes protected from the wind with Fendi'sZucca sunglasses which is all about being oversized and amazing. Finish the look with Prada's White Pebble Leather Convertible Satchel! Together - this is a super cute and clean look which will keep you warm no matter where you are off to.
I love this time of year! Tons of events and so many more reasons than normal to get snazzy for fun evenings out. I'm loving this Bailey 44 ruched dress that is perfect for the season. This dress on its own is phenomenal for holiday parties, New Year's Eve events and so much fun. But it definitely looks amazing when you pair it with a number of goodies that will allow you to stand out! I adore Le Vian for its strawberry gold with various diamonds. In your hand, this envelope clutch by Emily Cho who has amazing exotic leather prints. I'm a huge fan of Dara Ettinger and her Hayden Stone Cuff has a phenomenal hammering on the arm with a fab natural crystallized stone. Complete the look with Jimmy Choo's Kevan's Feather Trim Gladiator Sandal which is a niced caged sandal with the pops of color in the feathers.
This is the season where you start to add on more layers as it's not quite enough to get a full on coat but you can't just keep it light. One of my favorite colors is grey and when it comes to my outerwear, I love rocking this hue and popping in some tans. I'm loving UGG Australia's Fingerless Shortie with Shearling Gloves. I love wearing fingerless since I'm always doing a million things where it's easier for me to get items done. On days when I feel the need to layer in a different way, why not rock a pair of Maison Martin Margiela Wool Blend Arm Warmers. This is cute to wear with short and long sleeve tees. When your toes get a little chilly, rock Sorel's Crazy Cable Wedge Boots which has a nice leg warmer touch and I love the whimsical and yet cabinesque feel with the little bears that are across the top of the shoe.
I love rocking scarves and why not go with Missoni and a fab open weave mix of grey and tan together which is super cute. As mixed hues continue within this post, I'm loving this fabulous hat by Simonetta Ravizza Zebra Print Fur Cap which is so cute and chic! Wrap it all up by rocking this lustworthy bag by Christian Louboutin Sybil Springbock Fur Tote which looks amazing with a fab pair of jeans or my new fave - leggings. What I love most about this look is that you can wear the most simplest of items and rock these items to up it! Take some time to think about your favorite winter hues and what we will begin to see more of since it will be under outerwear.
Earlier in the week, my sister and I were walking around the home department of a store and of course we were bombarded by holiday sets everywhere balanced pretty evenly between Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas. When you're in the last few months of the year, you literally move from one event to the next only to be planning the next dinner, party or social soiree. With that said Oct and Nov are dominated by orange! It's the harvest season and although we identify this with the time of year since it happens on our trees, it can sometimes seem daunting to accent our home in this hue as well as to keep it there throughout the year. Orange is a fab color that works throughout the calendar season and shouldn't be relegated to pumpkins only (although how cute is this Sur La Table pumpkin candle).
Jessica Simpson's Princess pump pointed me in the appropriate orange direction by thinking outside of the hue box by taking the shade as we know it while also playing with the mixing of hues to create a look that is uniquely our own. I'm loving the bright orange that is found in the Orange Moroccan Pouf by Posh Tots (they also have this in other colors) and obviously, each week I pull something from Horchow that is a must - this week it's all about the poppy bowl - I do love a nice glass piece. Horchow comes to your bedroom, where it can be a harvest to citrus oasis depending on the season. The kitchen becomes fun thanks to the conical bowls from Cooking.com. Continue spreading the love with pops of pillows by Design Public and infuse this fab scent by Archipelago Botanicals.
What I love most about this season is the pop of rich orange tones that you see when you look at trees. If you love the change in seasons, why not include this within your look overall! I'm loving the kaftan by Roberto Cavalli which has a bright pop of color and then slightly mutes out by having the balance of black. I love that it can be paired over a pair of black jeggings from Adriano Goldschmied which has a nice sateen finish. Pair this with a fan pair of python print ankle boots from Giuseppe Zanotti which is such a fab shoe to have throughout the whole season! Finally, who doesn't love Carnelian, I love this red mosaic ring by Ron Hami which is a fab conversational cocktail piece that is perfect for your overall look. I also love that this look is phenom when it comes to travel and looking amazing wherever your travels take you.
I'm all about neutral tones and love rocking black and grey together as it's the cutest and chicest way to rock a style! I am a huge fan of boyfriend cardigans and lived in them last fall which means that they will be perfect for this season as well - Lola has the cutest one that has nice details. Pair this with a simple James Perse tee who has amazing soft and simple tees that are perfect to build your wardrobe. True Religion has a fab pair of grey super skinny leggings which are perfect for the season. Top it all off with Brian Atwood's suede and ostrich feather ankle boots are the perfect way to complete your outfit while also adding a sassy look to the most casual of looks. Finally, I'm obsessed with Monique Pean's pendant which is a nice casual touch to your look whether you're off having lunch, picking up goodies or going out for the night.
This time next week I will be in the early stages of tackling New York Fashion Week for yet another amazing season. This year, it is taking new significance since in addition to seeing shows, going to after parties and lounges - I will be previewing my Kimmie Smith x Sebago Spring 12 collection at the Robert Verdi Luxe Lab. This is a time where a number of industry will see one of the various projects that I have been working on as well as to get gifted in my line! It's such an exciting time and one that I have been looking forward to! For those that will not have the opportunity to come by, I had to sneak out one of my fave pieces that I designed! The leathers for all my shoes are phenomenal but I love this fresh take off of a typical penny style and this gorgeous green/blue antiqued hue. Known as the Cabana, it's the ultimate slip on and go shoe with a thin sole. I'll keep you in the loop on all the shoes that are being showcased and when I can share with you Fall 12, I definitely will!
This shoe's hue was the inspiration behind the assortment included within today's spread. I have always been a fan of this hue whether it's a votive from Anthropologie, a seat from Neiman Marcus or my personal fave - pieces from Horchow! If you're hitting the tents and everything in between, make sure to rest up as there are plenty of surprises coming from all directions when it comes to one of the biggest Fashion Week events!
Robin's Egg is so much more than the color associated with Easter or even apart of your Easter Egg candy! It's a fab hue that's subtle and works so well for all seasons. Today, I'm inspired by Forever 21's nail polish hue. Although I wouldn't rock this color on my nails, I would definitely think about infusing it into my home in a number of ways! From Mikasa's artistic cups, Jonathan Adler lamps and Paula Dean there are so many options! This is a perfect way to bring some fall tune ups to your home.
I love looking back at shows that took place earlier in the month for future inspiration. It reminds me of when I was younger and I used to watch CNN's Style Watch to get fashion from around the world, then I was off to dance class and back home to look at Vogue yet again! Many know that I love black and white, when we move into the fall its colors that I embrace fully. This season, I am popping in some other colors to soften my palette if you happened to check my tumblr page a few days ago! I am loving Giorgio Armani's Prive Fall/Winter 2011/2012 recent show where there was nothing but black, white, fuschia and mandarin orange! I am a huge fan of Japanese inspired fashion and this definitely took center stage at the show! Of course I LOVE LOVE LOVE the clutches, headwear and cuffs that rocked out on the runway!
The plaid shirt is analogous to my love for rocking skinny jeans and leggings at any given chance! With that said, when you have a staple that is without question, your "go to piece" then you have to think about all the ways that you can wear it to keep it fresh. This week and next week we tackle the plaid issue for men. This week, we look at the casual way of wearing it and pairing it with appropriate graphics that definitely highlight you chic vibe of being comfortable. In addition, there are number of shoes that you can wear to complete the look. I have become a fan of Adidas for men so it's nice to see this included within the spread! For those who embrace this look, we'll see you wearing it this holiday season, at brunch, traveling and so much more!
There is something to be said about embracing black - it's not to say that it is drab or that it is even morbid. But in many ways, it is super romantic especially during the holiday season. Many people feel that when you are wearing something that is predominantly black, that the only way to make it look phenomenal is to pop in another color. I say that although that is totally an option, there is something slightly whimsical about taking black and adding more into it to bring out that inner ballerina look and feel. As soon as I saw this tulle dress by BCBG, I knew that I wanted to maintain the black theme and to continue the dream like sense from this gorgeous pair of Christian Louboutin chiffon pumps (which the little polka dots are super cute) and then to add in more whimsy with these amazing Hello Kitty earrings in onyx which pair amazingly well with the ring from Tiffany's. Together, everything has such an allure to it that you can just imaging being the belle of the ball. This same look can be re-interpreted within a number of looks whether it is a ball gown or it is a much shorter number. These are great items to take into account when you are getting dressed for the holiday season or even the biggest night of the year or the first one of the next!
I love that this is the time of year that you go to a million events and you get to dress up as much as you want to! Whether you're thinking about NYE or have just a number of events that are going on, we wanted to spend this Sat showing some fab items that would look amazing as we continue through the holiday season. I love that this look is so easy and super sexy at the same time and is totally on trend with the focus on grecian inspired looks.
Now that we are definitely in the fall season, it's a must that we update our look and even take some new notes in terms of our makeup! Once again we check in with FLIRT!. Holly hosts another fab video which allows us to make a new look in an easy way and of course you can check out the entire FLIRT! It Girl You Tube channel in order to see previous videos as well!
I remember Halloween like it was yesterday! When the costumes are put back you're welcomed into November and voila it's the holiday season. This summer, I went to a number of holiday previews - there's nothing like sweltering heat and running into showrooms that are decked out for the holidays. But on Mon as I sported my fur vest, we were welcomed into the Cooper Square Hotel's penthouse for Crest's Holiday launch dinner with Gossip Girl, Katie Cassidy (yes David is her father for those who were wondering).
Many of you know that I am also a Crest spokesperson for their 3D White system which I am obsessed with and love that it has definitely enhanced my smile! Above, I'm pictured with Katie as well as fellow ambassadors Aly (Katie's left) and Jeannine (to my right)! It was a fun night of being able to mingle with fellow editors, chat with Katie and to enjoy a skyline that was phenomenal. It's not a bad way to kick off the numerous events that are bound to take place during the holiday season!
Now, if you're Gossip Girl obsessed and love Katie I can't wait to share fab news with you! What girl hasn’t dreamed of walking the red carpet and flashing her pearly whites? You can combine all of these by heading over to Crest 3D White’s Light Up the Holiday’s Facebook Contest which runs today through Nov 29th! You could win the change to have a moment to stand out and shine on the red carpet with “Gossip Girl” actress Katie Cassidy and Crest 3D White.
