Fashionable Fridays: Events ~ CEW Beauty Awards Luncheon

It's been a long week but I was so pumped to be whisked off to the Waldorf Astoria to attend the cocktail reception and the luncheon for the Cosmetic Executive Women Insiders' Beauty Awards. This year, over 650 products were entered through over 300 beauty brands! From all of this, there were 186 finalists in 30 categories. The result is that a winner in each category is selected and on this day, over 1,000 people were able to watch the awards ceremony that was hosted by Michael Cantone (from Sex in the City). I'm so happy that one of this year's CEW sponsors, Crest, invited me to attend! As a Crest 3D White ambassador it meant a lot and it was so much fun to meet a number of people within the brand as well as other brands! Roll over the images to see brands that I highlighted who won within their categories and who I enjoy using as well (special congrats to Avon for winning as I'm a Brand Ambassador for them as well and loved seeing another fave was included - I also rocked their Extra Lasting Lip Gloss in Constant Coral today)!

Shoe Sundays ~ Rose Inspires Your Decor

Interesting factoid about me, I don't like roses as a flower. So, Paul doesn't give me an arrangement of roses - but that doesn't mean that I don't like roses! In fact, I love it in my lip gloss, my toners, skincare and so much more. Last week, while I was in Philly, Paul went to Lush and got a number of bath products that smelled like roses. It was such an amazing aroma and of course when I began to think about this week's Shoe Sundays - I thought of rose/mauve hued shoes. The inspiration comes from Jill Stuart.

Roll over the above images to see why this would be great to include within your decor. Items have been curated from Horchow, Crate & Barrel, Voluspa and Kartell.

Mingling Mondays: Awards Season 2013 ~ SAG Awards Kerry Washington

Kerry Washington of ABC's Scandal never disappoints! I also feel that if there's a person who can rock the heck out of a color, she does it and is always a vision in white! Kerry stunned on the SAG Award's red carpet as she made her way inside to be one of the presenters of the night in a show where actors vote for other actors. Decked out in an embellished ensemble by Rodarte, she completed the look with a classy Chanel makeup look.

Celebrity Makeup Artist Matthew Vanleeuwen wanted to bring a modern elegance to her look. you too can get this great finish by:

Skincare

Kerry's skin was prepped with Chanel Sublimage Essential Regenerating Fluid for her face and neck, while Chanel Regenerating Le Creme Yeux was used for her eyes.

Foundation

He applied Chanel Perfection Lumiere Long Wear Flawless Fluid Sunscreen Makeup Broad Spectrum SPF 15 in Beige Amber to her skin. She was a perfect match (her foundation definitely looked flawless)

Blush

Kerry's cheeks had Chanel Powder Blush in Malice and on her cheekbones, Route des Indies de Chanel Illuminating Powder with Shimmer was applied

Eyes

For fabulous eyes, Chanel Quadra Eyeshadow in Vanites was used with the richest plum applied to the crease and the palest silvery/lilac shade used into the lash line. A little smudge of plum was used under the lash line for extra pop. The top lid was lined with Chanel Style Yeux Waterproof Long-Lasting Eyeliner in Noir Intense. Chanel Le Crayon Kohl Intense Eye Pencil in Noir was used on the lower lid.

Mascara

Le Volume de Chanel Mascara in Noir

Lips

Lips were lined and filled with Chanel Precision Lip Definer in Mordore. They were finished with Chanel Glossmier in Sweet Beige.

Treasure Tuesdays: Events ~ Style Tweetup Fall Holiday Style

Monday night, a fab group of came together as I hosted yet another Style Tweetup with the theme of Fall Holiday Style. Huge thanks to our generous host, Cocktail Bodega whose team was super sweet to have us there to enjoy our event and to sample their food as well! Cocktail Bodega is on the LES and is from the fab team who created the uber popular Sons of Essex! If you're in NYC, you know your Bodega is essential to your day to day! It's where you pick up your necessities, grab a bite a drink and more. Cocktail Bodega takes the fruit smoothies and juices that we love and adds alcohol to them with a fabulous menu from Bravo's Chef Roble - my Cuban Quesadilla sandwich was phenomenal. Perfect bites to enjoy while hanging out with friends on a fall day! With a number of large screen TV's (we loved having the football game on), I can imagine that during the Super Bowl or any game day must be a lot of fun. In addition, they have a club downstairs as well!

As the host of Style Tweetup, I invited a group of friends including Casey Kettleson from Styled On, Samantha Lim and McArthur Joseph of Fashion Indie, Shoshi from Lifestyle Provocateur, Kitty Bradshaw of THE Kitty Bradshaw and my sister Dorian of Big Apple Style. With our theme, I wanted to share goodies that were essential to enjoying the festive holidays starting with Thanksgiving. We will continue to update this post to add in the posts of attendees. I want to thank the following brands that participated and definitely excited those that attended!

I was so pleased to introduce LVX, a nail polish line that is vegan, 5 Free and is not tested on animals! What I love even more about this line that was included in LA Fashion Week recently, is that their nail colors are not only on trend but you can trace them back to hues that rocked runways! I wore Prussian which you can see above which is a fabulous hue (huge thanks to Kitty for snapping a pic of one of the nail polishes she received which is a great neutral tone). Because I'm always out and about or taping segments, makeup is an essential to my routine. Whether it's applying it or keeping my face clean, I loved gifting Swisspers to everyone! We enjoyed the round exfoliates, the square ones which can also work well when removing polish and of course the sponges which are perfect for applying foundation! These are such an essential and you can never have too many. In addition, I loved including Jane Iredale Smooth Affair which is a primer and a brightener which will give you the perfect glow!

When traveling or when at home, candles are an essential! Black Forest soy candles were provided which has a rich scent and is one that is perfect for crisp nights by Archipelago and finally, we were also gifted by Jopen a luxury personal massager line which is made for women with products for men as well. We will continue to infuse these products within future posts over the holiday season as well as including them within our Holiday Gift Guide (Nov 15th) as well as our Last Minute Holiday Gift Guide (Dec 1st).

Trendy Thursdays ~ Beauty Basics For July

I'm always being asked what I love in terms of beauty items. This includes a number of items that I use a lot versus those that are new to me but are definitely in my routine! I have been a fan and am obsessed with Koh Gen Do which in addition to having a fab beauty line, they have a number of skincare items that are a must. I have enjoyed using their Body and Bath Body Milk as well as their Body Wash which is like having a spa treatment to start and end your day. When it comes to the face, I love L'Occitane exfoliating gel. For a quick rinse (especially in this heat) I suggest Shobha's rosewater cleansing cloths which I love whether I'm getting my brows threaded at their salon or as a refresher. When it comes to my lips, when I am keeping it simple - Evolution of Smooth is the perfect solution and super addictive. Finally, I love a good dark nail color and when I'm not rocking hues by Butter London, you can find me in Essie this hue is Wicked.

Trendy Thursdays: Event ~ Dr Loretta Brunch

On a rainy afternoon earlier this week, I headed to Milos for a Beauty Brunch that was hosted by my friend and Social Media Director, Michelle Joni Lapidos of Spa Week - also make sure to check out their blog as well. The brunch allowed attendees to sit and chat skincare with Miami Beach based Dermatologist, Dr Loretta who has her own practice, a skincare line in her own name as well as a line that does private label for various spas. For those that follow Kitten Lounge on Facebook, you saw a number of my videos popping up talking about how gum (sugarless free is suggested) is great to keep your neck muscles firm, her skincare's innovation with stem cells that contain lavendar as well as other information regarding African Americans and the types of peels that they should use. The video above shares why we should apply new beauty products to only half of our face as they are done during clinical trials! It's a great way of seeing how well the product works for you and what results you can expect to see - a novel idea and one that we should always remember to do!

In addition to a fabulous lunch, we were able to have many of our skincare issues answered as well as to test a number of products within the Dr Loretta line including Age Change Daily Moisturizer (includes SPF 30+ which is perfect to use day and night), Age Change Body (which is great for all skin types and allows your skin to glow) and Age Change Eye (which lessens dark circles, bags and puffiness and protects the thin skin that is around the eye area). These can be purchased individually OR you can select the Age Change Kit which allows you to receive the Age Change Body for free when you purchase the Age Change Eye as well as the Age Change Face (which is the daily moisturizer).

Trendy Thursdays ~ Summer Ready Skin

It's time to prep your skin and to boost up your beauty routine as well! This can be done by a few of my favorite products including Soap & Glory (Flake Away Body Polish), Dr Loretta (Youth Full Lip), Sibu Beauty (Exfoliating Scrub and Mask), Avon (ANEW Genics Eye) and L'Occitane (Cellulite Almond Lotion). Together these items will ensure that you're properly exfoliated and having smooth skin.

Snazzy Sundays: NYFW FW2012/2013 ~ Backstage at Czar by Cesar Galindo

Sundays are all about brunch even during NYFW! So I was super excited to head over to Yotel Hotel earlier this morning/afternoon to cover the backstage of Cesar Galindo (he designs for Gwen Stefani's L.A.M.B. collection) for his personal label, Czar as well as a number of additional designers who showcased their work! Backstage, I saw Dr Loretta's product at work! Having great skincare enhances and maintains the dynamic looks that come across the stage. I am a big believer in using them day and night so seeing them incorporated into the show and seeing the ease of use was perfect! Tomorrow, I will meet Dr Loretta herself and will share more information about this product and why it's a must have in your makeup routine. Simply put as the teaser for tomorrow - it's all about a great foundation!

While I hung out backstage, I got the opportunity to hang out with the Supermodel above, Lu Sierra (she has walked all the major fashion cities, is a walking coach for Miss USA and Miss Universe, has appeared on a number of shows assisting women such as Kendell Jenner from Keeping Up With the Kardashians and so much more) who has phenomenal skin, a sweet disposition and had a walk that made you excited about all things fashion! Dresses in Czar she had a fabulous kimono on with a number of colors that looked so decadent - fab show opener. She also closed the show with this phenomenal strapless dress with a gorgeous train. In addition, Eva of America's Next Top Model walked the show as well. On the lower right hand corner, Cesar is watching Eva adjust her look before she gets her picture taken and heads into the model line.

It's official, today is Thanksgiving and whether you're watching the parade, football, endless marathons etc you're doing what you want to do with friends and family. It's about relaxing and nibbling all day long. With that said, keep it simple and fresh! A fab face is always a fresh one so make sure you prep your face and end the night of your face on display with, Boots No7, 4 - in - 1 wipes. Then ensure that your skin is at its ultimate clarity by using Bliss Spa Triple Oxygen set which also rejuvenates the skin whether you've been prepping the night before or went partying before Turkey Day! Let your body get pampered with Caudalie's Vine Body Butter and in terms of makeup, I opt to keep it simple this year with a fab shade from Dior's Beauty Addict lipgloss collection and a fun eye in a neutral tone from Urban Decay with a number of options and directions that you can go in.

Trendy Thursdays ~ A Moment With Lia Schorr

We all enjoy going to spas but it's always nice to speak to those who creates the spaces that we frequent. Many know that Lia Schorr is known for her facials and that she has written books on the subject and has dedicated most of her life to this. Last week, I took a moment to find out more about her and to hear what inspired her to create not only the salon but the institute that also bares her name. Her interview was candid and an inspiration to anyone that has a focus and a dream that they want to put into action.

Lia Schorr opened her Day Spa in the 80's with $500. She spent 7 years in a kibbutz in Israel and it was being in this space that really allowed her to connect with makeup and skincare as she didn't feel that she was pretty but she knew she could contribute to other's beauty routines which became the overall passion. She realized that in the US that she could pioneer this portion of the industry by endorsing skincare services for men and women. At the time, these services were considered something that those who were affluent enjoyed as it was a luxury. But Lia's mission was that using proper ingredients with education and skincare would allow her to have high standards with great services for optimal treatments while making everything affordable and available.

Over the past 10 years, more spas opened with services and the industry was not only competitive but there were various gimmicks running throughout it as well. Due to the recession, it created an equalizing effect where those spas that were truly good at what they did were able to survive while those that weren't faded from the competition. Lia found that her common sense approach and focusing on the basics allowed her to survive and to create a trust building system as she "doesn't promise what she can't deliver". In addition, with the success of her business, she retains a dominant presence by being in charge of all aspects of the business and found that even she climbed her own ladder in order to understand what it takes to make her business run.

Her success is not only in providing amazing services that are affordable and attainable but in also giving back, 20 years ago, she created her own institute where she teaches others so that they can certified and she continues to teach the importance of self discipline, providing opportunities and being driven in order to advance. Students that have the need and interest, are able to train with Lia and to learn the craft that she pioneered. Walking through her spa and institute, it's easy to see her influence within every part of her world.

Of course, you can't talk to a beauty expert without finding out what they think the keys are to maintaining great skin. Lia believes that living a good lifestyle (getting enough sleep, reducing your stress, getting exercise, eating well), have great relationships with friends and family, good values and loving what you do - allow you to look fab! We always need to make sure that the negatives of baggage, anger, etc are kicked out and that we should smile and laugh at ourselves as well.

Trendy Thursdays ~ Koh Gen Do Wakes Me Up Each Morning

Koh Gen Do is a brand that I'm super excited to wake up to each morning. Yes it's a makeup line but it is a phenomenal skincare line that keeps my face dewy! I've been talking about them for a couple of years but with so much activity (Fashion Week, Coterie, etc) it seems that I have to say that this line keeps my face looking amazing! Yes I can chalk it up to good genes but I'm out a lot! In fact I do a lot of events, don't sleep as much as I should etc so it's nice to have a line that has so many natural elements in it that make me look like I just left the most amazing spa! In fact, I only go to spas for massages and body treatments. Anything that I do for my face involves treatments at home! Thanks to Barneys, I love that you too can enjoy the amazing treatments.

I'm obsessed with their soap as I can place it in the mesh and after rubbing it you get a nice foam which is perfect to use on your face (of course I highly suggest the Spa Water with the Organic Cotton Pads they're amazing and super easy to use). After drying off, I love using their Essence lotion and or their Emollient Cream. It leaves your face looking clean, fresh and of course looking as if you're ready for your photoshoot. If you're here in NYC, you should definitely check the line out in Barneys or on their website of course! I also love that when I was at the Carmen Marc Valvo show during NY Fashion Week hanging out backstage watching Ted Gibson's team do what they do best - I love that I happened to bump into Diane, the founder of this fab beauty line! It was great to chat with her and to hang out which is why I love Fashion Week as you never know who you're going to run into!

Sponsored Fashion Week Post: Mingling Mondays ~ #NYFW Terralina

Fashion Week kicks off this Thursday (yes I know we are enjoying our long weekend during Labor Day); however, it's crazy how many shows and events take place right before or after the official start of Fashion Week (Sept 9th - Sept 16th). I find that this is the time that I start seriously prepping my mind, body and soul during this time! You can never be prepared and it's all about having great skin! Thankfully Terralina is the perfect way to start such a prep as well as to continue on as we head into the fall! Whether you know them from their presence on Cosmopolitan, InStyle, Elle etc - it's important to know that they are all about natural beauty! Throughout this Fashion Week period, you will hear about amazing brands that are sponsoring this site for a number of items and not only will you be able to find out about them but we hope you try them out as many are providing incentives!

Terralina is providing an amazing deal where if you buy 1 item, you receive the 2nd identical one free! How many times have we loved something and realized we should have stocked up on it - so this is the perfect solution! In addition, the belief in natural beauty created a product that was free of toxins and one that you could wear without worrying about the dangerous prolonged effects and of course, they do no animal testing at all! Whether you're looking too exfoliate, lotion or other items within your skincare regimen - we definitely suggest Terralina.

Trendy Thursdays ~ Rachel Zoe & Koh Gen Do!

Daniel Martin will be Kitten Lounge's Guru Celebrity Makeup Artists giving us tips to look amazing and letting us know who he is working on now!
Daniel Martin used the above Koh Gen Do products on Rachel Zoe!
Rachel Zoe on The View Sept 18th

I swear that anyone that comes over my house and has the opportunity to stay over will hear about my new found love for Koh Gen Do! What is it that fascinates me? I love that it's natural and never leaves my skin feeling like chemicals have been placed on it whether I'm washing my face or doing various treatments that keep my skin feeling fresh. I love that when you start using the makeup line, you find that everything is natural and light and your skin doesn't feel like a mask! I also love that I use it in conjunction with other lines and I look flawless and camera ready (you do know that this line is amazing for HD). Daniel Martin is a celebrity makeup artist who understands the art of putting on your face so to speak and has worked on so many projects and amazing people! Recently, Rachel Zoe was on The View and although she talked about breaking into the industry, who could help but look at how flawless her skin looked! I love that it's not over the top and if you want to achieve this look, take some time to check out the products above and listen to a tip that Daniel shared, "I always prep and hydrate the skin with KohGenDo’s Oriental Plants Essence. Then I apply KohGenDo’s Moisture Foundation with a foundation brush. I find that a little goes a long way, blending seamlessly for all over coverage"! Absolutely flawless and knowing that I have a photoshoot coming up on Oct 10th, I know I would love to have him on site! Now if you love that tip, stay tuned as Daniel will provide Kitten Lounge with more tidbits that will help to achieve that red carpet look for the everyday (and of course we'll get the inside scoop on who he has worked on)!

Trendy Thursdays: Keep it Clean

A few weeks ago, I was asked to attend an amazing presentation at the Empire Hotel for Koh Gen Do. What I love about this line is that it's not only a makeup line but a skincare one as well. Based in Japan, this line emerged as a way to ensure that people were able to wear makeup without having scents and to be removed in an effortless way! This is especially important since many celebrities wear the line and their fans are men and woman as they need to be in front of the camera. In addition, with everyone moving to HD, it's essential to have makeup that works within this medium without looking like it's caked on!

I could talk about the makeup (which will be in a future post I swear) but I am focusing on the skincare collection. I love that this line is all natural. In a previous post I talked about the amazing organic cotton pads and also the special water that you could use to clean your face but it was watching the demonstration of today's items that made me really excited! I have always been a fan of facial cloths. I love that the soap is already in the washcloths; however, I find that you can't really get a good lather without really scrubbing your face. I have often wondered how healthy that is for your skin.

The Whipping Net is a fantastic tool that you can use with the Oriental Plant Soap. As opposed to scrubbing your face, you can rub your liquid or bar of soap against the net. By holding the net in both hands, you can rub the net against each other to create a lather. As you scrub and get a palms worth of foam you can place it to the side and after three lather amounts, you have what you need to scrub your face! I have to say that my face has felt so much cleaner after using this and I love that my face doesn't have to be abused in order to keep it clean! Take some time to check out more items from the skincare and also the makeup line as well!
