It's chilly out there and when it isn't chilly, the rain tries to keep you indoors. When this happens and I know I plan on getting work done, I love sipping tea throughout the day. I like to have the biggest cup possible and to sample various blends. No sugar is needed as I'm a fan of honey! When it comes to getting the perfect tea setup, make sure that you have some of your favorite cups, continue to buy various tea blends of interest, get a great tea pot and of course find some honey. These are items that will get you through chilly days and nights and this also makes a great gift for the holidays, housewarmings and more. Take some time to click around to have your cupboards stocked!
Who wouldn't love an afternoon of tea and mingling with other people in their industry? I knew that it would be a fun event and yet one that would require me to continue thinking about everything that took place. As you guys may remember from my last event at Purple Lab NYC, even with a few days in between the event and when I wrote about it on the site - I was still in awe. As I headed to the Norwood Club, a members only Country Club whose requirement is that you must be affiliated with the arts, I was struck with how much you can go the same place and not realize that there is more to what you see and what you know. I was a little shocked that this area of 14th street housed this awesome oasis! The memory of the gorgeous townhouse, the art, dining rooms etc is still in my mind and of course I want to be a member. Although the backdrop of the event was fabulous, I was there for something more.
Of course the tea kicked off with the Creatrix of Purple Lab NYC, Karen Robinovitz welcomed us and introduced an amazing line up of women! We learned about Triple Negative Breast Cancer and how it affected Nancy and her friends, moms who came together for playdates, put their resources and concern together to beseech the medical community to share notes on this disease in order to save women who were affected. Although Nancy passed away, I was encouraged that these women continue to fight and make their voices heard so that other woman can benefit. Nancy's favorite color was pink and to see her gorgeous daughter who was 7 wearing the cutest little prep school outfit with her pink nails, was inspiring.
From learning about the foundation and its impact, we saw a clip of "Why I Wore Lipstick to My Mastectomy". I remember seeing this movie on Lifetime a few years ago but had never read the book. As the clip came to an end I literally (and those who know I'm obsessed with Audrey Hepburn and Elizabeth Taylor will understand) looked over and saw a modern version of Elizabeth Taylor. With a simple classic dress, stunning earrings she was flawless and yes Geralyn Lucas was the author who wrote about her choice to wear red lipstick. I was so struck by her courage, frank nature and good sense of humor. I love the fact that she read from the book and also talked to us as well. Being able to be toured around Norwood was also amazing and gave me an opportunity to chat with her and to get a sense of who she was as a person.
It's difficult to convey all the moments that took place from being able to reconnect with my fellow bloggers, finally meet others that I have enjoyed reading for years and of course, to see everyone getting excited about the cookies that were included within the gift bag by none other than Crystal Horton of Tasty Morsels Bakery. As we all looked through our goodie bag, we all received Purple Lab NYC's SWAC (Sealed With a Cure) gloss in Nancy. Not only is it a gorgeous shade of pink with little specks of shimmer in it but it has all the elements that are perfect to keep your lips moisturized, there's a refreshing vanilla flavour - you feel like you can't put it on enough! In addition a percentage of the sales of this product go towards the Triple Negative Breast Cancer Foundation. In addition, we received a little card that gave us a challenge. As you'll learn in my video, Geralyn (check out her site to learn more about the book, movie, The Lipstick Train, The Booby Mafia and so much more) had a theory about red lipstick and my challenge was "Be and look fabulous while vacuuming". As is very typical I tweaked my challenge and shared some additional thoughts (yes I'm obsessed with my lounge wear as much as I am with my daywear! To answer your questions, I'm wearing Daddy's Favorite an amazing line that I found out about while in Vegas at the Curve Show!). Enjoy the video!
Earlier this week, I had the chance to attend an event that showcased Barenjager Honey Liqueur! I love that they had 6 bartenders making their signature drink that included this honey liqueur. With the temperatures beginning to fall, this is the perfect compliment for an amazing beverage or to include within your tea or coffee! Just this morning I had it in my Green Tea and definitely felt warmed up! This drink comes within a woven basket and is eye catching. Visit the site and make sure that you check out the recipes that are available to make this drink tasty!
Happy Easter! Whichever way you happen to spend it, I hope it's a lot of fun! Sunday is perfect for brunch and I love thinking about the idea of going back home with your friends with a great cup of tea. Whether it's warmed or chill, it's a nice way to spend a great day! I think that the teapot is super cute and I love the glasses as well which fit well within the hand. In addition, I love that there are so many tea options. How about a cute pyramid baggie that infuses the tea or you can enjoy a loose leaf version as well.
I love having a nice scent that you can carry with you without having too much in your bag. These cute slim line perfumes are perfect and who doesn't need to not only begin the day smelling fresh but to have something on hand that allows you to freshen up without the bulk of having large containers. So I have been juggling between two scents - Citrus Vervain which definitely wakes me up in the morning and then there is the subtle smell of Sweet Tea which is my personal favorite. It has amazing staying power and yet, I find myself reaching for them when I am out and about or need a pick me up! Elizabeth W is a beautiful collection with great natural scents that just allow you to enjoy them without feeling overpowered. With a number of items in their product line beyond perfumes, this is a great way to build up your body care products!
When the weather isn't so amazing, I either love working at home or if I'm super distracted, I grab some magazines or a book and venture out. It's great to go to Starbucks; however, I don't drink that much coffee anymore and so I search for such places as Subtle Tea. This is a cute place on Madison Ave. They are known for being able to assist you in choosing the perfect tea based on the time of day or what may be ailing you at the time. If you forgot reading material, the communal table will hook you up and what a great way to spend the day, see a new side of town or (gasp) get a little work done thanks to the free Wifi and great nibbles that are available!
Today we are taking a bit of a breather since the week has been so busy! So instead of mentioning great places to get a drink or a way to make a new one, we want you to relax a bit and have something a little fragrant that you can enjoy in whichever way you decide to spend today! With notes of White Tea and Pink Peppercorn, there are definitely sweet smells to be had with the Hard Candy Fragrance and because of this, it was a natural choice in terms of our weeklong giveaway where 4 lucky winners will get to try this out for their very own!
Congratulations Dorian, Kam, Jennae and Michelle! I will definitely contact you individually but loved hearing about your favorite scents. It's amazing how many we go through and which ones we love no matter what. With that being said, I hope this is one that you will make a fave in your cabinets!
Can you believe that June is almost over? Fourth of July is days away and so you have to think about what you're doing, what party you will plan and more. Well here is a drink that you could make for your guests during your party - American Patriotic Tea! I love that this recipe on Cocktail Times is one that you can modify with a variety of flavors! If you love this recipe, you'll have to visit the site to find a lot more that would work with a number of dinners, events and more that you'll host! For me, I would add raspberry liquer in this as well as I think that that would be a refreshing flavor. I think even adding in a molasses taste would be nice as well. So definitely try it like this and then let your creativity kick in!
AMERICAN PATRIOTIC TEA RECIPE
Ingredients:
- 4 cups water
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 8 black tea bags
- 1 lemon, cut into 8 wedges
- 1/2 cup fresh mint leaves
- 2 cups American Honey liqueur
In a large saucepan, boil 4 cups water. Add 1/2 cup sugar; stir to dissolve. Remove from heat; add 8 teabags of black tea. Steep 10 minutes; discard teabags. Add 4 cups cold water; transfer to pitcher and chill. Mash or muddle lemon wedges and add to pitcher. Add 1/2 cup fresh mint leaves. Using a wooden spoon, crush mint until fragrant. Stir in 2 cups of American Honey liqueur. Serve over ice.
Today was hot and absolutely amazing! Today I started early in the afternoon at the Big Apple BBQ Fest which took place in Madison Park today and tomorrow! Not only was it hot but it was a lot of fun to see food, music, hear seminars and to hear happy people getting excited about BBQ. I have to say that I was a BBQ novice but after a recent visit to Dinosaur BBQ in Harlem, I had a renewed respect (yes how does a Midwestern girl not get into BBQ until a late age - I don't know but I am definitely interested and got a lot of information). After picking up my press passes (thanks Katy) I went to the seminars first. Sponsored by Snapple and Every Day With Rachael Ray, I really wanted to see what was going on and sit in on a few demos if possible. I had the luxury of making it in to my first cooking demo "On the Side". This was lead by two Food Editors of my favorite magazine - Every Day with Rachael Ray. Pamela Mitchell and Teri Tsang Barrett shared interesting sides that you can include on your barbecue which are just as important as the main attraction! I came in right when they handed out the amazing golden sweet tea and I also sampled the hush puppies that I hadn't had in quite some time. This video clip includes the segment about the hush puppies. Teri is on the right and Pamela is on the left! These ladies were a lot of fun to listen to and was a great way to introduce me to my day!
My favorite spot of tea would have to be anything with Green Tea or Chai tea in it. I have been thinking of starting a tea collection. Although I have a variety of tea bags and large mugs to drink out of, I like the idea of having the perfect tea cups and matching saucers for those times when I want to ring in the tea hour on a rainy or a sunny afternoon. There are so many places to go to get something like this that you can really make your collection your own. Shown here is a super cute set of owl cups. The Taika Cups and Saucers by Iittala are available on Vivre.com. If you love this portion of the set, you will enjoy plates and bowls as well which will be perfect for your future dinner parties. Take some time to build up your home with cute items that will make your corner of the world very special and specific to you!
It's here! For the past few Saturdays, I have shared with you various vendors that will be participating in this week's Coffee & Tea Festival at the Metropolitan Pavilion. This is a nice weekend to get out of the rain (if we do in fact get this) and to sample some of the beverages that will be available. It's so nice when you have an event when the tea and coffee people can be together and have a great time. I will be there today so if you see me, stop by and say hello! I am so excited to actually attend the event and I will give a recap on what I saw, who was there and what we should be out on the lookout for as well. I even have a few friends that will be stopping by as I am on a quest to spread my love for tea!
Next weekend is going to be a great weekend - we're closer to May and of course there is the Coffee and Tea Festival that is finally going to open its doors to the public. Over the past few Saturdays we have showcased various exhibitors who will be participating and of course this Saturday is no exception! I love these small tea canisters with little elephants on top. Each one of these contains specifically chosen teas! The teas and associated gifts that are available at Ceylon Treasures are definitely mind boggling! For those of you that enjoy spirits and want to do so in a healthy way will enjoy their version of a Black Russian, Pina Colada, etc - all without alcohol of course! For great treats and more you can purchase them online and of course if you're in the city and would like to go to this event, you can attend this weekend and we even have a few free tickets if you feel like asking for some!
I love cats and when it comes to big cats, I love them too. This post ties in a lot of different items together! First off, the Coffee and Tea Festival is only days away and will be held at the Metropolitan Pavilion! I love that this is going to be a great event that will have the best in coffee, tea and cocoa. Not only can you enjoy warm or chilled beverages, you can also get great products for your drinks. Today's Sippin' Saturday includes this beautiful teapot from Cardew Design, Inc. I love the vibrant orange colors (obviously I am tying this into our THINK CITRUS theme for this month as well) and think that this is really cute and I love the lid with the tiger cub on the top. Definitely visit the site to see a lot more of the interesting canisters, mugs, coasters and tea pots! Of course if you're in NYC, you definitely need to attend the show!
As many of you know, the Coffee & Tea Festival is coming up! Of course we are showcasing a variety of exhibitors that will be at this show. Today, I'm featuring Tay Tea. I love that this Berber tea is known as a blend that invokes friendship and hositality. The blend has an amazing aroma due to its Moroccan spearmint and blended with a Chinese Gunpowder Green Tea as well. This tea is full of properties that maintain your energy and of course is very refreshing as well. Tay Tea is not only attending the show, but you can enjoy their blends by purchasing online as well. I love that you can buy various blends online and learn about new flavors that are perfect to have with meals or just as a means to relax.
If you're interested in attending, we are not only giving away two tickets for free but if you don't get these tickets - you can also enjoy a special offer by getting $5 off of admission to visit the Coffee and Tea Festival which will take place next month for two days - providing the best in coffee, tea, treats and much more. To find out more visit the Coffee and Tea Festival.
From now until April 12th, The Kitten Lounge will be presenting a sampling of exhibitors that will be attending The 3rd Annual Coffee & Tea Festival NYC at the Metropolitan Pavilion from April 12th - 13th. Many of you know that I am a huge fan of Tea and for those that are Coffee lovers or enjoy the treats that come along with this, this is definitely going to be a fun event. What a great way to see the various tea shops that are throughout this area. One of the exhibitors will be Tavalon Tea Bar (which is a personal favorite).
Tavalon Tea Bar has these amazing Bloom Teas that you place the pods into a container and not only can you enjoy the aromatic smell but you can also see them expand and "bloom" in front of your very eyes. This blend is the Vesuvius Sunrise which includes green tea, hibiscus and lavendar. Available at Tavalon within their super cute shop on 14th street or on their website, this is a great way to enjoy tea in a different way. Take some time to visit them virtually, at their shop and of course - make sure that you go to the festival as well. If you would like to go, you can check out the website to reserve your tickets OR you can also win one of 2 tickets right here on Kitten Lounge which will allow you and a friend to attend to see exhibitors, sample beverages, attend classes, shop and to enjoy the Java/Tea Lounge which will have music and entertainment! To win one of these passes this week, add a comment onto this post letting us know your favorite tea spot or blend. One person will be randomly chosen next Saturday.
Today's installment of Mingling Mondays brings me to one of my favorite places. Originally, I found out about Amai on a trip to Tavalon Tea Bar on 14th street which has a variety of teas and carries baked goods that are from various bakeries. I had the best Green Tea cookie (since people know that I am such a fan of anything that has this in it). Thankfully, Tavalon Tea Bar provides information about who made such a delicious treat that I Googled it and came across the blog LovesCool. There I found that Kelli, was the owner of Amai and at the time, they were sold at area retailers. I let her know how much I loved her cookies and posted about it on a blog that I ran at that time. I loved that her blog was focused on desserts and I always checked in. Then I found out that Kelli was actually opening her own shop and was so excited that I could get these cookies and more. Amai Tea and Bake House opened late October and they have definitely been on the lips of area residents, celebs and she was also nominated in Time Out NY as well which is amazing.
Not only can you visit the shop (which is perfect for mingling) but you can also order the Green Tea Tea Sweet Cookies and additional sweet treats from the site. In terms of THINK CITRUS, the perfect treat would be the Lemon Grass and Ginger. If you buy the tins of cookies, you can reuse the container to store your tea which is perfect (and they are super cute)! Support this talented dessert shop and check out her blog as well.

The other day I had Arizona Green Tea with Pomegranate Acai tea bags. I am such a fan of the cold beverage but I never thought that I would love it in this version. I love the rich taste and the fact that it has green tea in it as well. I would say that you should definitely give this a try and I enjoy drinking it this morning. Nothing is better than sipping on this while building websites, blogging and more.
I have a new favorite brand of teas. It started while I was at Wholefoods a week ago spending about 20 mins browsing the tea section. I love Republic of Teas and a few other brands but nothing had jumped out at me until I saw this logo of Zhena's Gypsy Tea and I must say that I looked at the label and the antique like tins and thought that it would be interesting to try. Although there were a variety of teas, I settled on a sampler which contained Lemon Jasmine, Pomegranate Rose (my initial reason for purchasing it), Ambrosia White Plum (which became my favorite) and Sense of Peace. I have been sampling these teas and I love that it's Organic, Free Trade and for those that are concerned, it's Kosher as well. After visiting the site and learning about the tea, the care put into it, etc - I signed up on the mailing list. I believe that my next purchase will be Brazilian Berry or possibly Italian Chamomile. I also like the sound of the White Ginger Iced Tea as well.
With so many interesting blends, you'll find yourself drawn to something within the categories of Herbal, White, Green and Dark blends. Take some time to check out the site and look at the Aromatherapy Wheel where you can see what tea works best on what you are attempting to heal. In addition, you can find out where this is available in your area and for those that may not have it or are too excited to go - you can order online. This makes a great gift and is something that we should all drink to maintain our health!
I love it! One of my favorite blogs about baked goods is Loves Cool. This is such a great blog about a baking diva who has the BEST Green Teas cookies that I ever had. These cookies were at Tavalon Tea Bar and I happened to find out that she made them. Finally her much anticipated Amai Tea & Bake House has been opened for a little over a month. With office parties, holiday hangouts and more on the horizon, make sure that you drop by here to pick up a few things to add a little something extra to this event! This is perfect for the weekend or as a way to meet up with a friend before you go out to dinner.

I love a nice beverage that warms you up (hello it's 30 dePomegranate Togrees out this morning) and has a great flavor. Today on was Cocktail Times and found a great drink that is absolutely perfect for this season. How cute does this drink look in this glass? I also love that you can enjoy a variety of teas witihn this beverage; therefore, there is a bit of choice that this drinks allows. Nothing is better than making sure you have a warm drink with a little spice in to enjoy after ice skating, walking around the city, etc. I love finding different alcoholic beverages that can be enjoyed at various times beyond the bars/lounges, Take some time to visit Cocktail Times to find more drinks that are just perfect for you.

I love tea! I am a huge fan! From visiting some of my tea spots (Alice's Tea Cup or Teany) to going to great places to purchasing my own blends, Tavalon - tea is a great way to enjoy the day or to begin it. When I'm not in the office and am at home, I love brewing tea. This teapot from Macy's is my favorite and is one on my list for future gifting. I love that it reminds me of a teahouse of some sort. I love the bamboo handle and it can be used on the stove as well. I love that this pot has such a stylish look and looks well no matter what decor you're attempting within your home. With a variety of teapots to consider, this is a great site to start from! Macy's has tea pots or kettles from a variety of designers (also check out Martha Stewarts Collection as well since she has her line carried here as well). If you love the bamboo look, I'm sure you will find a variety of colors withinh this category! Also, don't skimp on the cups! Keep them fun and stylish.
We love hearing from you! Suggestions, ideas and thoughts are always welcome.
