Trendy Thursdays: Be Good To Your Skin & The Environment

Even though the economy is brining on interesting challenges, beauty seems to be an area that we continue to put money into. I still find it necessary to still enjoy my treatments as it's not only a way to relax but a necessity. I enjoy the services I receive in salons as much as I love buying products to use at home. I recently received this Deep Cleansing Mask from Nude Skincare. First this mauve colored product has a rubber like feel in terms of its packaging which is not only soothing but environmentally friendly. I have had the pleasure of using this and I love how it makes my skin feel amazing after using it.

For those that have oily skin, this is an amazing mousse like substance that takes away the oils that are excessive for your skin while also making sure that you still have skin that glows and looks amazing. This mask is definitely something that you can use once a week and through time you will see the results. With additional items within their line including items for the body (whether topical or ingested), you're bound to have amazing skin!

Wearable Wednesdys: Make Sure Your Undies Are Hip

Valentine's Day is literally around the corner and although you may be expecting surprises why not something that works for you? When we were little we used to have undies that had the days of the week. I remember that there was one that I had for Wednesday with a rainbow and icecream cone and I couldn't wait to wear them. But like everything, when we're older, we need to find ways to update what makes us happy. So I visited a great one stop undie shop known as Hip Undies! Not only do they carry Cosabella, Eberjey, Betsey Johnson Lingerie, etc but they carry Marry Green. I have to say that I didn't know about the brand but they have been featured in Life & Style and they have a great presentation for your undies. You'll be able to keep everything in cute satchels and if you get all the sets, you'll be able to tell them apart, Whether it's thongs, boyshorts, etc you'll still get excited about wearing your favorite day!

Wearable Wednesdays: Tracy Reese Does it Again

You guys know that my favorite show, hands down at Fashion Week was Tracy Reese's collection which was full of whimsical garden dresses - she makes you feel girly and ready to take on the world at the same time. I still get chills thinking of her choice of music and including Terrence Howard within that line up! Anyway, when her pieces pop up outside of the runway, I love sharing! At the Twilight premier, Jennie Garth was seen wearing this Embellished Toga Dress. She looks elegant and oh so Tracy Reese touched as well! Take some time to check out her site so that you can see what would look best for you!

Fashionable Fridays: Our First Lady

I love looking at presidential pictures of first ladies and of course, one of my faves was Jackie. She had a great sense of style that was timeless. So of course my eye is on Michelle and so I have decided that as apart of Fashionable Fridays, I will make sure to keep you in the know of the various looks Michelle wears. It will be interesting to see how her style will be. In a recent WWD, they suggested that the first family will be a classic presence where they will mix their high fashion with those that many of us wear. Either way with this historic family, I am interested to see how Michelle and the girls represent their style from functions to just being out and about! I would love to hear your thoughts! Of course we have to kick this off with some images of the soon to be First Lady on Election Night. I know there were some mixed reviews of the look but I thought it was powerful while being fashionable. I saw this dress hit the runway during Fashion Week - loved it then and thought it was appropriate that night as well!

Trendy Thursdays: Give Your Face the Boots

During Fashion Week, it's more than the fabulous clothes and parties, I love being in the tents and getting introduced to new products. As I walked around the various booths, I came in front of Boots. I knew them to be a store that sold various skincare, beauty products, etc. But I was surprised that the line called No7 was their own line. I was given a moisturizer for day and night and I have been using it since Fashion Week! I love how fresh my face feels and as I received a full sample, I know that when it's time to get another one, I can either go to Boots or I can get it at Target. This is affordable and attainable skincare that will make your face glow everytime you apply the creams! This has made my skin look very refreshed and I honestly feel that I am getting a mini spa everytime I was my face! So although this post is late in coming, I wanted to spend a few months with this product before sharing it with all of you!

Treasure Tuesdays: Get Out There & Vote

You guys know that this is not a place where I talk politics! I feel that I am not qualified and I don't follow all the issues; however, I do have a message! I have stood in a lot of lines for Fashion Week, ramdom events and I have waited to get interviews about new items that are hitting the market and if I can do all of that and fit everything into my schedule, I know that I can vote. This year we have learned a lot of information and have seen the candidates in various ways. I feel that this has been and will be the most exciting election and to be apart of it, if you took the effort to register to vote - follow through and get out there! If you didn't fill your info out, I believe that you can also do a provisional vote as well (this allows you to place a vote when your information may have been incorrect to due not filling out your intent to vote or simply not getting yours in on time) check such sites as Can I Vote which will let you know where you vote and also get  you in touch with someone in your state who can help you out. I will be voting later on this evening as polls here won't close until 9pm. Then I will head out to some bar to watch the numbers start coming in. This election has really made people have a lot of issues and a lot of us who may have sat back before are standing up now. Even T.I. voted in Atlanta via an early voting period last week. He had believed he was not eligible to do so due to serving some time but found that he could. It is an important part of what we do in this country and it is important that if we can be vocal on what we think is wrong, we should put action into what we know is right by making a stand. I will be on Twitter all day so let me know your thoughts and how the numbers are coming in!

Wearable Wednesdays: Inhabit

I found out about Inhabit days before Fashion Week and fell in love with their pieces that definitely leave people lingering to get a second look of your outfit! I love that they are for men and women and are all about ultimate comfort to boot! During Fashion Week, I had the opportunity to wear one of her long tunics that had long sleeves and little holes for your thumbs. I could wear it everyday. Regardless of whether you're wearing the cotton or cashmere look, this is definitely something that should be increasing in your closet without a doubt! If you are into organics, they also have a section of the line that includes this as well. I love casual luxe which Inhabit is without a doubt

Kitten Lounge Loves Lucky Shops

There are certain times during the year that I absolutely love to be in the midst of shopping mania! One of them is when Lucky Magazine holds its Lucky Shops event! I love going and checking out a variety of items that are greatly reduced while enjoying some cocktails. Each fall that I have attended, the deals have been better and I have walked away with some great finds and awesome goodies to go with it (I am still giddy about my Tory Burch bag and the most amazing CK seamless panties - TMI I know but I love them so it's ok). This year, Lucky Shops will be at the Metropolitan Pavilion on November 7th and 8th. This year the denim bar is back thanks to Lycra and of course Singer will be there for complimentary hemming. Lucky's "The Lucky Guide to Mastering Any Look" will be available for purchase and I love that Benefit will have a Brow Bar. With so many giveaways available and more, you'll want to get your tickets to be apart of this. In addition, the lovelies at Lucky Shops want to give you a little love so we have a giveaway for the coveted goodie bag! One of you will win this bag stuffed to the brim with goodies by visiting the site and providing comments here on the following question: Tell me why you like Lucky Shops and what you hope to get while there from the vendors that will be attending this shopping event. Those with the correct answer will be randomly drawn. Winners will be announced on Oct 24th! If you're going let me know and I'm sure I will see you there!

Trendy Thursdays: Beam Brings You Into the Daylight

I have to say that one of the things that I love most about Fashion Week above and beyond the shows is that it's a time when people come together to see people you run past daily or who you only talk to via emails. It's also a time when you have the opportunity to meet others through people that you already know. This can take place at shows, in the tents, parties and so much more. Simply put, it's a great way to relationship build!

Well, the night before Fashion Week, Total Beauty kicked off this week of events by throwing a party and via Sam from Dark PR, I had the pleasure of meeting Andrea and Liza Young, the Brazilian sister duo that is behind New York's prominent, Beam Laser Spa (1841 Broadway Suite 806). The night that I met them, I knew that not only did they look adorable but I was definitely intrigued to learn more about the services that were available at this spa. Fortunately, we were able to meet again and I settled on a date and time to not only have an appointment but to learn about the spa!

Trust me when I say that I was a little nervous to have my appointment. Although the idea of never having to shave under my arms again seemed like a dream, the idea of having a laser on me was a little too Goldfinger for my taste. But my apprehension was calmed by being greeted by Liza who has such a great calm personality, I love that she chatted and explained my forms and one look in the office makes you feel a bit of Zen. Andrea has such an amazing personality and beyond having a bubbly personality, knowing that she is a molecular biologist with an MBA and has worked within the hair removal industry for many years, made me feel that she was knowledgeable about various techniques and had seen the evolution of them.

My initial concern was the obvious - pain, I love how she explained that in areas that had less hair, you wouldn't feel as strong of a sensation as denser areas. In fact, the sensation would be temporary. Seeing her demo the laser and watching the puffs of air that came out that cooled the areas that had received the laser was very calming. But another issue that still remained was that I had always heard that African Americans were not able to have this treatment or that many people felt it simply wasn't for them. Even my mom was shocked that I had received this treatment as she explained that back in the 70's she had had laser treatment in her face and that later her dermatologist had explained that it wasn't for women of color. In fact when Googling on various message boards, I found this response along with warnings of scars and spots appearing on the skin as a huge warning against doing this.

Andrea's knowledge and answer to this question was shocking to hear. In spas that have these laser treatments, those who are olive to darker skinned should find out what kind of wavelength is used in terms of the procedure. Those that are darker need to make sure that their facilities have a dual laser machine which has an Alexandrite and a Yag wave. The YAG wave is for those with darker skin and although it penetrates deeper into the skin layer bypassing the skin color, it has a slightly reduced effect that still removes the hair without lightening our color. I found this amazing and was pleased to know that laser treatments could be an option for all skin tones.

Andrea explained everything, answered questions and continued to make me comfortable. Now for those who are thinking of getting this treatment, they offer a free consultation where they do a patch test. This is where you choose a small area and they do the procedure so that you can have a sample. In many cases, over 90% of those who do the consultation, come back to actually get it done. With all this knowledge and hearing this percentage, I was ready.

Prior to this, I was not able to shave about a day or two before coming in and (to my grossed out dismay) I didn't have deodarent on. Since I was doing my underarms, Andrea, shaved the arms to make sure it was clean, drew the area that would be treated with a white pencil and then used the laser. This procedure probably only took 10 mins total. At first the sensation of feeling the beam and then the cold air on my arms just felt different as you don't usually have this on you; however, when it got to the denser areas, there was slight discomfort. I love that she guaged my reactions and when I needed a slight breather she stopped. She continued to chat with me and you were able to continue. When it was over, aloe was placed under my arms.

I was shocked that it was over so quickly and after she examined my arms, she said that it didn't look aggravated. I felt a slight discomfort but absolutely nothing major. Now when you sign up you know that you will have to do somewhere between 6 - 8 treatments and they are spaced out by 6 weeks. Each time the hairs are growing in less and you can see the difference. In fact, within 3 weeks, both sisters said that I would notice hairs under my arms but that they would literally fall out. Although I am not a fan of stray hairs, the idea that I am one step closer to not having to shave is AMAZING.

When I got home, I checked under my arms and each day (as this took place on Sun) I am amazed that I haven't really seen anything! They offer so many services and I would start with doing your underarms. Because this is such a new thing for me and I have my next treatment in Nov, I will keep you guys up to date on how everything is going. Three weeks from now (actually from this past Sun), I will let you know if I see any hairs. The sisters reminded me that if I have hairs that are growing in by then and have not fallen out, they would take away the stray hairs at no cost.

The care they take from the time they walk in the door to when you leave is amazing and being comfortable is half the battle! Beam Laser Spa is definitely a place that I will refer to my friends and if you guys go there, you have to let me know your thoughts!

Fashion Week: End of Day One

I made it through the first day. It was a lot of fun and nothing is better than jumping in with both feet and just going with the plan - you know that there isn't really one. I have to say that I was a little tired towards the end and all the running around was making us all a bit sweaty but it wasn't too bad - I had Lauren Conrad, Linea Pelle, Mistral Soaps and Nars Cosmetics to push me to the last bit of energy! Check out my parting words for the end of day one at New York Fashion Week!

I am so pleased to have every single sponsor that has helped me to be ready for Fashion Week but I must give a shout out to you guys! I am so pleased that for all intensive purposes, Lauren Conrad has dressed me for the entire week! This is not to say that I am not excited about Inhabit NY! I am all about organic and can't wait to share this look with you. Dark Pr, the entire staff has been absoultely amazing and has put me in touch with amazing brands that are making this event that much better. Erika at Nars Cosmetics has made sure that I look very glam and yet true to the way that you would find me when I am out and about. Mistral Soaps is making sure that I start the day smelling amazing so that I can continue from one show to the next. I am so obsessed with this brand and I have to say that they have been amazing in allowing me to sample various items that I can't wait to share with you each day! Finally, via the power of Twitter and just going to events, I am glad to increase my knowledge of those that are in the blogging and related spheres that have become my friends and have helped me to hone my skills and to see beyond my own vision of what I would like to do - I look forward to continue to work and share with you.

Mingling Mondays: Miami Swim 2008 ~ A Cover Doesn't Need to Cover

TibiOh if only I could have been in Miami to see the shows! That was a great day to see many of my favorite swimwear designers. But when I think about my swimwear, I have to say that my cover ups are a bit lacking. I think they're cute but they tend to be an after thought and that just isn't an appropriate way to approach this portion of my closet! Tibi's line hit the runway and my favorite look happened to be this coverup! I love a great Boho Chic look and I love the whimsy that it is in this piece. This is definitely something that I would wear while in South Beach at my friend's condo or when you know you are going to a very chic poolside party! A great pair of Grecian sandals is the perfect way to touch off this look and of course a cute accessory or two! There are more great looks from this show available on Mercedes-Benz Swim Miami Fashion Week and of course you can see all the other amazing designers as well!

Snazzy Sundays: Miami Swim 2008 ~ Head to the Beach With Syla by Sylvie

SylvaLast Fri the runways were full of bathing suits and fabulous swimwear! One of my favorite designers, Syla by Sylvie Cachay, hit the catwalk with a super cute Boho Chic look! My favorite look from this show is definitely this piece! I love the simple cream color but the accessories are absolutely amazing and definitely something that I would wear! It's hard to say which accessory is my favorite but clearly my eye was drawn to the belt which looks like it could be agate but I'm not sure. This piece would look cute with a slim fitting jersey or over a tank and a pair of jeans. I love this natural style and think that sometimes it's nice to go beyond wearing prints and to go with something simple and chic which looks amazing no matter where you opt to wear this. This piece and many more can be see on the Mercedes-Benz Swim Miami Fashion Week site as there were a lot of great looks for this show.

Fashionable Fridays: Miami Swim 2008 ~ Diesel Kicked off Miami Swim Fashion Week

Mbdiesel Mercedes Benz Fashion Week was kicked off last night with Diesel at the Raleigh Hotel's Pool Deck and of course, I had to share my favorite look from that night! I love the colors and think that this is definitely a swimsuit that would turn heads wherever you are! Of course I am a huge fan of side ties as well. A lot of the shows will go on tonight so I can't wait to share some of my favorite looks! You can also see all of the swimwear (they had a cute set for the kiddies) in photos and as a video by visiting Mercedes Benz' Fashion Week site!

Fashionable Fridays: It Starts Tonight!

RedcarterIt starts tonight! Yesterday was the kick off party at The Raleigh Hotel and now the runways come alive when the sun begins to go down. What a great way to see all of your shows and then head right out to whatever parties are going on. Here is an image, courtesy of the Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Show, from Red Carter who will show tomorrow evening. I love this bathing suit that is a great mix of ethnic/tribal prints!

This is definitely my favorite suit. I love the pops of blue and the red that are throughout this suit. Also can we talk about the fact that the jewelry they used would be amazing with so many dresses that you have in your closet whether they are plunging, strapless and more! I will definitely have images of this show and can't wait to share this and much more with you from the show!

Treasure Tuesdays: Miami Swim 2008 ~ Miami Mercedes Benz Swim Fashion Week

MbgwThis week we will temporarily focus on an event that is literally my favorite in the entire fashion industry! Maybe because I did a lot of bathing suit modeling at one time but I love Fashion Week Swim and Miami and when both are combined, you can't get any better than that. Next year I am promising myself that I will be an attendee/press (and gasp how great would it be if a swimwear line actually wore my  - Kitten Couture Until then, I am dedicated this week to the Mercedes - Benz Fashion Week Swim Event!

So this week, we will be covering a variety of designers from the launch party at the Raleigh Hotel all the way to the very last show! The good thing is you don't have to have Uber VIP status to attend and you can still let your presence be known and get various forms of access to this event via American Express! You can enjoy a Poolside Cabana at the Meet and Greet at The Raleigh with a fab swimwear designer and of course you can see all the swimwear lines such as Red Carter and Ed Hardy!

I am so bummed that I will not be able to meet Tibi's swimwear designer, attend the Diesel show, go to a card member only private trunk show! This is a such a great time and if you will be there and are a card member, check this out and if you're aiming to be at the event next season, I will see you there without question! Stay tuned this week to find out about all the great designers at my favorite season's Fashion Week - sigh!

Wearable Wednesdays ~ Australia Fashion Week Presents Leonard Salinas

Australia1 At any given time someone is strutting on the runway wearing something fabulous and during this portion of Australian Fashion Week, Leonard Salinas' collection hit the catwalk with amazing pops of color that you can definitely see in this shot. First off, I love his silhouettes and he definitely knows how to show some of our best parts - it's nice to bring back that old elegance and to mix it up with interesting embellishment and also amazing rich hues! This is not for the faint at heart.

Now I have to say, that this beautiful grey/silver piece caught my eye since it is one of my favorite colors to wear and I loved the detailing on the neck as well. I wasn't sure if it was something that I would personally wear but I think that this shapes the body well and would be amazing to wear to an opening at a gallery, a cocktail event launching a book that just hit the New York Times or any other occassion that calls upon us to step it up when it comes to our attire. But I think the magic in this piece comes when this model gives us another view.

Australia2 The back of this dress took me off guard completely and instantly this become a piece that I want in my collection ASAP. I love that this simple look completely makes this dress go from safe to daring and yet your inner Audrey never has to wonder if this is appropriate to wear to the functions mentioned above. This dress is perfect to pair with a necklace that is intended to be worn down your back and of course you hair down is perfect but having it in a messy updo of sorts wouldn't be a bad idea. If you love this piece and the peeks that you can see in the background, see more from this show and others on Coutorture!

Sippin' Saturdays ~ Australian Fashion Week Presents Jayson Brunsdon

Jb1I love the backdrop of Australian Fashion Week! I think that it would be fun to see a show with the city in the background! How great would it be to be able to catch a show walking across a promenade even if you weren't really invited. I love that Jayson Brunsdon has created an elegant and fun line that is very simple but with pop elements of color and or interesting cuts. I love the tunic like look of this outfit which presents a  30's glam/mod look. I also love the orange hues and the abstract design as well. But this piece isn't completely overwhelming since the design is only shown in concentrated areas. This is a great piece to wear to a gala or an opening of great art at a friend's gallery. This definitely makes you look like a goddess wherever you decide to wear it! Take some time to see more looks from this talented designer on Coutorture  as they continue to present Fashion Week events around the globe.

ThurleyDuring Australia Fashion Week, a variety of designers hit the runways with amazing looks and models to complete the image of course. I have to say that I love this collection although I have never seen Thurley before! I love this dress since it is a very simple cut and then has great pop factor with the beautiful design that is on the front of the dress. If you love this look and more, you'll enjoy seeing more from this collection at Coutorture  which is a great place to go for original editorial shoots and also amazing runway shows from around the world.

Trendy Thursdays: TFW FW2008 ~ Joeffer Caoc

Jc3When I think about Fashion Week - I love that it continues no matter where you are! Today, we highlight in this Trendy Thursday segment, Joeffer Caoc's Toronto Fashion Week Show. Initially, I came across this fab designer while checking out today's Coutorture recap of this portion of the runway Fashion Week. For the purpose of this post, I wanted to introduce a designer that was new to me and that I definitely wanted to let you guys know about. I love this outfit I think that in terms of the top - I love that it is a one shoulder and has a bit of that Grecian vibe which is very femme and exotic. I also love that it is paired with a pair of cuffed shorts which is so South Beach! I think this is a nice addition to the concept of THINK CITRUS! Check out more of Joeffer Caoc on his site and see the amazing pieces from his collection.

Trendy Thursdays: THINK CITRUS ~ Take A Journey to the Runways of India

I love the fact that at any given time there are Fashion Week shows taking place around the globe. This is a great way to see the creativity of so many designers. In terms of staying with the theme of this month, I wanted to choose some amazing designs that have elements of THINK CITRUS. Thanks to the hard working people of Coutorture, I have included some of the posts and of course you can see a lot more from India Fashion Week and of course other designers that are currently showing in other Fashion Week Shows.
India1
I love this outfit because of the super cute cami and skirt with this beautiful wrap across the top. This definitely makes me think of wearing this at a cocktail event on a beach or someones loft that has a beautiful deck. The embellishment is absolutely gorgeous and I enjoy the trims as well. I think that she definitely looks like a princess.

India2I have to say that this outfit is my absolute favorite! I love the pops of yellow and that it ties on the side. Once again I think there is something very regal about this and I love the black, white, silver and orange hues. You can never go wrong with a super cute clutch as well. This is definitely something that would be cute to wear at South Beach during some amazing event.

India3I like the blend of the sheer tones of orange and black. If I were wearing this, I would so wear this with Carnelian or an Agate stone that picks up these gorgeous tones. I love the beaded portions on the top of this dress and definitely feel that this is the perfect dress to wear to a gala and to set you apart from the typical "black gown" that people gravitate towards. Once again visit Coutorture to find more images from these shows.

Fashionable Fridays: Fashion Shows ~ Christian Dior Runway Show

I love Fridays! It's the end of the week and yet you have the possibilities of a full weekend in front of you as well. You can enjoy this Fashion Week Show by Christian Dior. It's definitely an ode to the '60's with the larger then life hair, cat eyes, and fabulous accessories. Happy Friday and enjoy John Galliano's Fall/Winter 2008 show, provided to us courtesy of Coutorture.

Fashionable Fridays: MFW FW2008: Salvatore Ferragamo

I love this season! There is a show every where you turn and we can all allow our inner (fill in the blank) Audrey Hepburn or Elizabeth Taylor come out. Although many of these pieces may not be something that you would wear out, you can definitely take some nods from these fashion greats! Fortunately, I am a fan and would wear anything that came off this runway! Salvatore Ferragamo is one of my favorite designers and recently in Milan he unveiled a line that I would not mind having in my closet!
Rc1 My favorite outfit (that I would wear in a jiffy) is this super cute cocktail dress that not only wraps and has a beautiful key hole effect, but it also has a cute scarf. This is such a sassy look which makes us all feel that we are red carpet ready. I love the classic blue color and I love the snazzy elements that allow for shimmer. In addition, I love the idea that you can pair this with a cute clutch (I am so about this and feel that it is a fashion essential).

Rc2The peek a boo effect of this outfit is so cute! This is perfect to wear along or over denim and leggings. This is perfect for a night out when you are going to a premiere of some sort and you want to show how cool you look. Once again the shimmer is much appreciated!

Rc3
This outfit makes me think of a disco dancer. I love the shape of this outfit and how it fits the upper body and instead of becoming a dress, it's a pant suit that is not only sexy but extremely classy as well. I love the black, white and grey colors of this piece.

Rc6
My favorite "night time" look from this collection is this top. I love how it loops around the neck and the pop of color which shows a green portion of this outfit. I have always been a fan of this look and with a little Hollywood Tape, this is an outfit that will have every eye looking at you no matter where you go. Although I have shown a few images here, make sure you visit Coutorture to see more from this show and many others!

I am such a fan of dramatic coats and super cute dresses (if you saw me in Vegas at night, I was all about bringing in that Casino glam). I love the wow factor and I present to you the Zang Toi Fall Winter 2008 Fashion Show. After you see this show, check out Coutorture to see all the other great shows that are available - much better then fighting your way to the runways of the world.

Sippin' Saturdays: Fashion Week Edition ~ Blood Orange Margaritas

Cocktail So earlier this week, I had the opportunity to hang out with members of the Coutorture community. This group of individuals work on our own fashion blogs. All of this content comes together and is seen on Coutorture. After being a member for so long, it was nice to meet others who also work hard whether it is in accessories, makeup or various slices of the fashion world. Thankfully, we all met at 24 Prince (side note this restaurant's co-owner and chef will be apart of Top Chef Chicago which will air on March 12th) and enjoyed appetizers . Obviously I enjoyed the conversation; however, the highlight of the night were the beverages! I am such a huge fan of Blood Orange and thankfully, we had the pleasure of enjoying these drinks. I would say that this is something that you should definitely try and although it works well in the winter, definitely consider it for the summer - so refreshing!

Blood Orange Margaritas

1 1/2 ounces tequila
  1 ounce blood orange juice
  1/2 ounce fresh lime juice
  3/4 ounce Cointreau liqueur
