Snazzy Sundays: West Elm Gets Back to Nature

Just the other day (actually the day I went to visit Beam Laser Spa on the UWS), I realized that West Elm was coming into that neighborhood. Typically when I go there I have always gone to the one in Chelsea. Once I saw the announcement regarding the opening, I realized that it had been awhile since I had seen their post. So today, I have a nice gallery of West Elm who has always had a natural vibe. Enjoy these images and think of how you will add a little natural love into your home whether it's in the bedroom, living room or much more.

One of the things that I loved most about Sex and the City is that it had fabulous outfits that dazzled you. From the simplistic looks to those that were for a massive night out, there was always something that you wanted to keep in your closet. Yes, Sex and the City was an end of and era of amazing fashions (I suppose people thought the same thing with Dynasty and other shows such as that). Fortunately, I have picked up such shows as Lipstick Jungle to enjoy the super cute looks but I do believe that I have acquired another find - USA Network's the Starter Wife whose 2 hour premier wil launch tonight!

Debra Messing stars in The Starter Wife; however, much like Patricia Field was a dynamic element to the show, Agata Maskiewics is the same for this show! I can't wait to see all the looks (some which are including within the gallery of this post) and make sure to tune into USA at 9pm EST for the 2 hour premier and to see whether you loved seeing Carrie's east coast looks or those that Molly (Debra's character) will wear as a lady of Hollywood. Below is a snippet of the interview with Agata Maskiewics, costume designer for this series. Being a costume designer must be a fun job! How did you get your start?

I started working in the film & TV industry after graduating from the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising where I studied fashion design. I started as an intern on a feature film and worked my way up holding various positions in the costume department.

How is styling a celebrity different from styling a character in film or television?

While I don’t particularly style celebrities, I feel that the main difference is that when designing a character the job is to transform an actor into the character they are portraying. Often times the costumes can really help an actor make the transition into the character they are set to play. Also, sometimes the costumes are not meant to be flattering; depending on the character, the goal isn’t always to make them look beautiful. But when styling a celebrity, it’s all about having them look amazing.

What role does fashion play in The Starter Wife?

Fashion is almost like another character in The Starter Wife. So much of the personality of the actors comes through in the clothing they wear. Our goal is to have the audience as excited about the fashions as they are the characters. We want the people at home to feel as though they can hear the ruffle of Molly’s Zac Posen silk dress and smell the exquisite leather of her Manolos. We want them to daydream about getting into Molly’s closet and have the opportunity to dress from it everyday as she does. And yes, the closet is huge, since as a Hollywood woman, she never repeats an outfit!

Snazzy Sunday: Begin to Fall Into Fall

This morning as I walked out of my boyfriend's balcony on his condo, I realized that although there wasn't a chill in the air, the seasons were changing and with all the rain, there was a alot of fog. Instantly, I began thinking of all the warm elements that I like to infuse within my living spaces! So of course, the best way to begin adding items into the house, is to look online. After a review of some fun pieces from West Elm, this is a great way to generate some ideas for all of your areas in your home.

Sippin Saturdays: PaperDoll On My Playlist

You know next weekend looks good when you are currently sitting in a weekend thinking about the next one coming up. Yes I am pleased to attend a special shopping event next Fri but I can't lie that it's going to be fun to go to PaperDoll's concert in the West Village next Saturday night. I think this calls for those special skinny jeans, a cute shirt, clucth and all the python accessories that I can find! Seriously, I began chatting it up with the lead singer of PaperDoll and after visiting their main home and MySpace page, I knew that this was something that I would always want playing on my iPod.

PaperDoll has not only been making the circuit but they have played to sold out shows at Knitting Factory, Crash Mansion and Mercury Lounge. With the release of the their debut album, Ballad Nerd Pop, this pop rock band embraces its listeners with great melodies, catchy tunes and just the feeling of excitement about their own music. I am a huge fan of the 80's sound and my favorite song is definitely, "Everything is Fine" which has a great sound and gets you ready to prepare for a night out or you may already be out enjoying a night with the girls or your growing group of friends.

Most importantly, I see Teresa as that early Gwen Stefani during the No Doubt days. I think she has a great style and definitely makes her look her own while taking ownership of her lyrics. OIf you have yet to hear this band, you can hear them next Sat! I hope to continue following this band on Kitten Lounge. as you know that I enjoy sharing indie music and I will be out next weekend catching my first (and hopefully not the last) show. I will also share my thoughts on the show as well.

Snazzy Sundays: Work From Home

I think that when it comes time to work whether you do it from home or just from time to time, you need the perfect space. I am a huge fan of this style of table! Available at West Elm, the Sawhorse Work Table has a glass top and sits on steel plated legs. This table is perfect to place within a studio, guest room or more. In addition, having a nice lamp on it which is also apart of the minimalist aesthetic as well. To add a bit of texture to the room, having a cubed bookcase which is accented with wicker baskets is a perfect touch and allows you to keep unnecessary clutter off of your desk as well.

They are definitely creative and at least you can enjoy this nutritious food by ordering online if you're not in the city. With so many options, you're bound to find something tasty.

Snazzy Sundays: Happy Mother's Day!

Happy Mother's Day! There are so many ways to spend it whether it's at one of your favorite restaurants, going to a broadway show or in the comfort of your own home - you're bound to find a way to make it special. If you do have it at home and you have amazing weather, you'll want to make sure that you have it on your patio, roofdeck or whatever open space is nearby! When I look at these Water Hyacinth Pillows from West Elm, I think of all the ways that you can make your outdoor space cozy! Not only that, but Mother's Day makes me think of summer being around the corner with all of the amazing holidays that emerge. I love the idea of making your outdoor space taking on more of a natural look by making an oasis of sorts right outside. Somehow you can always make the island just at your fingertips, why not start off with making Mother's Day the kickoff to this event! Mingling Mondays: Cinco de Mayo

What are you going to do - Cinco de Mayo falls on a Monday and unless you call out tomorrow, you will definitely be nursing the night's before activities. That being said, there are going to be many places that will have Cinco de Mayo specials. One of my favorite places is La Palapa that has a West Village (shown) and East Village location. I tend to go to the East Village version but tomorrow I will be celebrating my best friend's birthday and am so excited to see if I like this one as much as the other. I love the margaritas here and am such a fan of their pommegranite beverage Take some time to visit the site and plan your own impromptu outing!

Snazzy Sundays: Pop Up Bar

No matter how much of a backyard, deck, etc that you have - you can have a pop up bar at your disposal thanks to this super cute piece, known as the Sydney Bar, that's available at West Elm. I love that there is space for you to prep, people can have their drinks on another stand and there are various areas to organize your beverages and tools. I love that you're glasses have a home, there are holes for wine and much more. I think that this is such a great thing to have and feel that it could even be something that you could use within your home for those that may be in large cities where we don't even have space to have a backyard. Trendy Thursdays: Mansion Opens Tonight

A few years ago when I was in South Beach, I went to Mansion and fell in love with it! Now a couple of years later, it's exciting that it will be here and they are having a private opening tonight in West Chelsea and just in time for Fashion Week's last night, they will be open to the public on Friday! Mansion is definitely going to be interesting as it will take its place on West 27th street (they will be in the same location that formerly housed Crobar)! This is definitely going to be a nice place to be as we get into the spring and the summer. This weekend, make your way down to this new club.

Mingling Mondays

Saturday my friend and I did our weekly brunch. Nothing is better than sitting back and enjoying a great meal that lasts a few hours. On the way back from our UWS brunch spot, we took a walk and popped into a few shops and noticed a cute little wine place - Wine and Roses. I loved that even though it was a chilly day and a little overcast, the outdoor tables has roses in a glass. Interestingly enough, later on that night, I had the opportunity to come back with a friend to try out this place for myself. I love the intimate vibe and the fact that the music went back and forth between current dance tracks and I believe some jazz in there. I have always been a fan of Shiraz and had a glass last night. Everything is centered around the wine and the menu has interesting items beyond cheese and breads. Although it was packed, I loved seeing so many people enjoying wine and sampling the food as well. I feel that this is a great spot for friends and small parties. After visiting the website and seeing the monthly pics that are updated, it made me want to become a regular as I noticed many of the same people within various months.
